- Achieving A Happy Ending With The Tragic Female Lead [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 4 - Eldest Senior Sister x Junior Sister
The room fell into an instantaneous silence.
Even Coalie, who had been clinging to Su Mi’s shoulder, suddenly stopped its bouncing. Its body tilted, and it fell silently onto the soft couch.
Light streamed in from the window, mottled shadows falling upon Wanqi Yue’s ears, which were now a deep, bleeding crimson.
Finally the slow reacting Wanqi Yue sprang up with a “thump,” waving her hands frantically in her panic: “No, it’s not…”
“I… I meant to say, Eldest Senior Sister, who are you sleeping with tonight… no, no, I mean, Eldest Senior Sister, are you sleeping with me… that’s not right either!”
The more Wanqi Yue spoke, the more anxious she became, and the more chaotic her thoughts grew. Her entire face flushed a deeper shade of red. Eventually, she simply shut her mouth, seething with frustration at herself.
She had clearly intended to ask where the other woman would be resting tonight and if she wanted to stay with her. But her tongue had slipped, merging two sentences into one, and the meaning had completely changed.
Seeing her like this, Su Mi understood what had happened. She slowly lowered her eyelashes, the corners of her lips curving slightly: “I will rest here.”
Since the female lead was here, she naturally intended to stay in the same room.
Wanqi Yue froze for a moment, then gave a soft, obedient response: “Oh…”
Quiet returned to the room, though something still felt slightly off.
Coalie approached Su Mi again, offering a kind reminder: [Master, I think the female lead might need some comfort right now.]
Comfort?
Su Mi looked at the person who was now facing away from her, her head bowed so low it was almost touching the window frame. She figured that most people would feel embarrassed in such a situation.
The female lead was only a nineteen-year-old girl she likely felt the same.
Meanwhile, Wanqi Yue was desperately suppressing her panic and reflecting on her actions.
How could I say something like that! This is the Eldest Senior Sister I’ve admired and respected since I was a child. What will she think of me now! I already messed up once before because I “underestimated the enemy,” and she saw me in that pathetic state. Now, I’ve gone and done something this stupid.
I can’t face her!
As she thought this, Wanqi Yue stole a glance toward Su Mi. Unexpectedly, their eyes met, and the heat in her face threatened to rise again.
However, seeing that the Eldest Senior Sister’s expression was as calm as ever, she wondered if perhaps the other woman hadn’t taken the blunder to heart.
Just as Wanqi Yue was comforting herself with this thought, she saw Su Mi, who had been sitting, stand up.
“I am going out for a moment.”
Wanqi Yue instinctively started to stand up to follow, but seeing Su Mi’s departing back, she forced herself to stop. She thought the Eldest Senior Sister must be leaving to avoid her it was all because of her slip of the tongue.
Regret reappeared on her face, deepening by the second.
Before stepping out the door, Su Mi glanced back. To her surprise, she saw the Pleasure Value above Wanqi Yue’s head suddenly drop by five points.
She knit her brows in confusion. What happened?
Had she not left the room specifically to give the girl space to move past her embarrassment? Had she done something wrong?
[Master, I don’t think this method of comfort is working,] Coalie noted.
Su Mi gave the Coalie on her shoulder a cold look, her tone icy: “Then you try.”
The tiny Coalie immediately shrank its non-existent neck, huddling down quietly and daring not to speak further.
Though they had only been together a short time, it could sense that its Master seemed to have a bit of a temper.
As Su Mi walked down the corridor, she brooded over those five lost points of Pleasure Value. Her elegant, thin lips were pressed together, radiating a slight sense of cold displeasure.
She encountered two disciples on the way. They only dared to press themselves against the wall, bowing their heads to greet her quickly before scurrying back to their rooms.
After walking a few paces, Su Mi stopped. Then, she turned on her heel and headed back.
She hadn’t closed the door when she left. Standing at the doorway now, she saw Wanqi Yue with her back to her, her forehead pressed against the wall as if standing in a self-imposed “time-out.”
“Let’s go together.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Wanqi Yue straightened up and turned around instantly. Upon seeing Su Mi, her eyes lit up, and the Pleasure Value above her head immediately rose by two points.
“Eldest Senior Sister, are you calling for me?” She was terrified she had misheard.
Su Mi’s gaze remained unchanged as she softly replied, “Mhm.”
Wanqi Yue immediately ran over. Because she had been leaning against the wall, there was a red mark on her forehead, which was particularly prominent against her fair skin.
Su Mi looked away from the mark. Seeing the Pleasure Value rising back up, her own mood improved slightly.
Only after they left the room did Wanqi Yue ask, “Eldest Senior Sister, where are we going?”
“To see that Medical Immortal Temple you all mentioned.” Su Mi figured since they had nothing to do, they might as well investigate the temple.
Wanqi Yue nodded understandingly.
Before leaving the inn, they informed Fang Yun so she wouldn’t worry. Fang Yun had wanted to follow, but considering the other junior brothers and sisters, she chose to stay behind.
Before heading downstairs, Su Mi gave Wanqi Yue an Invisibility Talisman to hide their physical forms and auras.
The inn was bustling with people and business was thriving. The waiter from the morning was nowhere to be seen among the busy staff. The shopkeeper was at the counter, but his expression was dazed, as if his mind were elsewhere.
As Wanqi Yue followed Su Mi past the counter, she leaned in on a whim and bared her teeth in a mischievous grin at the shopkeeper. Although he couldn’t see her, he shivered violently for no apparent reason.
Seeing this, Wanqi Yue couldn’t help but let out a soft giggle. Remembering she was still invisible and that her Eldest Senior Sister was right beside her she quickly pressed her hand against her lips as Su Mi looked over.
However, the faint sound of a woman’s laughter reached the shopkeeper’s ears. His face turned pale instantly, and his eyes darted around frantically. He gripped his abacus tightly, looking as though he were on guard against something unseen.
Wanqi Yue stole a glance at Su Mi. Seeing that the elder woman had no intention of scolding her for the prank, she finally relaxed.
Su Mi viewed these small antics as nothing more than the natural temperament of a nineteen-year-old girl and didn’t mind in the slightest.
Once they stepped out onto the street and found the crowds thick with people, they sought out a quiet, deserted alley to undo the Invisibility Talisman before merging back into the throng.
Perhaps because of the plague a century ago, pharmacies seemed exceptionally numerous in Baizhi City. As they opened for business, the air became permeated with the scent of drying herbs, mingled with the distinct aroma of mugwort.
Furthermore, most passersby in the city wore similar-looking sachets.
Wanqi Yue explained at the opportune moment: “We investigated earlier because of the previous epidemic, every household here likes to hang herbal sachets in their homes and wear them on their persons.”
As she spoke, a five or six-year-old girl appeared ahead of them. Clutching a handful of bulging, apricot-colored sachets, she tried to sell them to passersby, though few people paid her any mind.
Undeterred, the girl moved on to the next customer until she reached Su Mi. Looking up, she asked, “Sister, would you like to buy one? Only two coins for one, or three coins for two.”
Su Mi looked at the large bundle of sachets that the girl’s tiny hand could barely hold, yet she gripped them firmly.
She took out some money and bought two, handing one to Wanqi Yue.
Wanqi Yue’s eyes sparked with joy as she took it. “Thank you, Eldest Senior Sister.”
Su Mi lifted her sachet to her nose and sniffed it smelled exactly like the scent lingering in the streets.
Wanqi Yue followed suit, smelling the sachet Su Mi had given her. “It actually smells quite nice,” she noted with novelty.
“Did you not buy any before?” Su Mi asked.
Wanqi Yue shook her head. While many commoners wore sachets, the contents varied by region. As cultivators, their bodies were robust, so they hadn’t thought to buy herbal sachets to wear.
Su Mi loosened the drawstring of the sachet to glance at the contents but didn’t see anything unusual.
Putting the item away, she said, “Let’s go.”
Wanqi Yue had scouted the area outside the Medical Immortal Temple with the other sisters during the day yesterday, so she stepped forward to lead the way for Su Mi.
However, the city’s streets and alleys were a crisscrossing maze. After leading Su Mi in circles for a while, she realized she had no idea where they were.
“That’s not right… I remember the Medical Immortal Temple was this way.”
Just as Su Mi was considering conjuring a “Pathfinding Butterfly” to help find the way, a farmwoman carrying a vegetable basket walked by. Having overheard Wanqi Yue, she offered a kind reminder: “Young lady, are you looking for the Medical Immortal Temple? Its main entrance is on North Street. This is South Street the back gate of the temple. This door doesn’t open. you’ll have to circle back… This place… it’s better if you leave here quickly.”
The farmwoman’s final sentence was a bit muffled, but she warmly pointed them in the right direction before departing.
Once she was gone, only the two of them remained standing before the gate.
Although the woman had given directions, it sounded like a long walk to get back to the correct street.
Su Mi was feeling a bit lazy, while Wanqi Yue felt embarrassed, feeling as though she constantly appeared incompetent in front of her Eldest Senior Sister.
She wasn’t usually like this!
Looking at the red painted wooden door with its peeling lacquer and firm seal, Wanqi Yue puffed out her cheeks and said stubbornly, “…A door is a door, anyway.”
What difference did a front or back door make?
“We could fly there on our swords,” Su Mi suggested, offering a solution fitting for their status.
Wanqi Yue’s eyes widened. “Eldest Senior Sister, did you forget? The Cultivation World Manual we were forced to memorize Page 1, Section 3, Point 6: Cultivators are prohibited from flying at will over cities to avoid causing public panic.”
Su Mi: “………”
Who was the bored soul who wrote that?
At that same moment, far away on Qingyang Mountain, the Sect Leader was comfortably raising a cup of Spring Dew wine for a sip when he suddenly let out a massive sneeze. Most of the precious wine splashed out.
“Who? Who misses me this much?”
Sitting opposite him, the Vice Sect Leader couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “How do you know they aren’t cursing you?”
“Impossible. Don’t they say ‘One sneeze means someone misses you, two means they’re cursing you’? It’s definitely…Achoo!”
The Vice Sect Leader: “…Pfft.”
