- Chapter 34 - Eldest Senior Sister x Junior Sister
The flames behind the crowd rose higher and higher, forming a wall of fire. Dark smoke blotted out the sun, making it impossible for those waiting outside to see what was happening within.
“I’ve always said you righteous cultivators are hypocrites, clearly consumed by jealousy, yet refusing to admit it, clinging to your fake benevolence to deceive yourselves,” Yue Qianzhou sneered with a distorted grin. “If you were truly so upright, why didn’t you refute me when I said those things back then?”
Fang Yun supported herself as she slowly stood up. “Humans have seven emotions and six desires; the Dao has seven precepts and six desires. What matters is what a person chooses to do.” She let out a faint smile. “To show excessive hospitality without reason is to hide a wicked intent. I reported your words and actions to my Eldest Senior Sister long ago. How else do you think today came to be?”
Yue Qianzhou’s face darkened further as he glared at Su Mi. “You two teamed up to play me?”
Su Mi remained expressionless. She temporarily sealed the wound on her hand with ice to stop the bleeding.
To the side, Wanqi Yue couldn’t help but speak up: “Do you demon cultivators see so much hypocrisy and intrigue that you think everyone must be the same?”
“This is simply human nature.” Strands of black qi emanated from the wounds on Yue Qianzhou’s body, healing him at a visible rate. Even his limp right hand let out the sound of bones restructuring, and the demonic energy around him grew heavier.
He looked toward Wanqi Yue, the previous facade of kindness in his eyes replaced by mockery. “I originally intended to use a method you liked, since I ‘required’ something from you. It’s a pity you didn’t appreciate it. Now, it makes no difference if I simply tie you up and take you back.”
Hearing this, Su Mi’s expression shifted slightly. She took two steps forward and suddenly reached out, her blood-stained palm spreading open. Several talismans unfolded before her, and blue-gold flames flickered into existence.
In an instant, an ice-blue dragon claw reached out from the talismans, breaking through with bone-chilling frost. Shimmering blue phosphorescence glowed brilliantly, and a layer of golden forbidden seals flowed faintly across the dragon’s body as it leapt into the air.
Roar…
The ice dragon let out a deafening roar. This sound, saturated with immense pressure, sent a shock through the hearts of everyone present, forcing them back a step. Only Su Mi stood her ground, unmoving.
“I will create an opening for you to get close,” Su Mi said, looking ahead.
Wanqi Yue withdrew her gaze from the ice dragon and gripped her sword tightly, nodding firmly. Fang Yun was also ready.
“Flashy tricks,” Yue Qianzhou scoffed. The blood crows circling in the air suddenly dove down, stacking upon each other until they formed the shape of a dark red blood sparrow. In his hand, a crimson whip several meters long appeared.
The blood sparrow opened its sharp beak, emitting a screech like a demonic melody that pierced the ears. It spread its wings to block the advancing Wanqi Yue and Fang Yun.
On the other side, the long whip tore through the air. Su Mi tilted her head to dodge the tip, stepping back several meters. She made a grasping motion with her five fingers, bursting with ice-blue spiritual power. The ice dragon in the air, shrouded in wind and snow, hissed and charged at Yue Qianzhou.
Fang Yun blocked the blood sparrow’s claws with her sword, bearing almost the entire weight of the creature’s body.
Seizing the opening, Wanqi Yue’s sword tip skimmed the ground, carving a deep furrow. In the next heartbeat, she spun around with lightning speed, leveled her blade, and drove it deep into the joint where the sparrow’s wing met its back, slashing downward with the momentum of her fall.
Fiery red flames erupted along the wound. The blood sparrow shrieked in agony, flapping wildly to extinguish the fire on its back.
Fang Yun immediately felt the pressure on her hands lighten significantly and took the chance to spin away.
Just as Wanqi Yue was about to press the attack, she instinctively felt something behind her. She turned to see sharp objects piercing toward her from the rear, the blood sparrow’s tail feathers had transformed into lethal spikes.
She scrambled to dodge, knowing the distance was too tight. Her Second Senior Sister was too far to help. Just as she considered taking the hit on her shoulder, an icy blue light flashed past her. Claws collided with tail feathers, producing a sharp metallic clang.
This gave Wanqi Yue enough time to retreat to her Second Senior Sister’s side.
“How dare you get distracted while fighting me,” Yue Qianzhou swung his whip again amidst the raging currents of air. “Isn’t that a bit too arrogant?”
Su Mi said coldly, “Talkative.”
The whip fell with the force of a hurricane, kicking up surrounding dust and gravel. The wall of black fire flickered violently.
Su Mi shattered several whip shadows. The returning ice dragon bit down on the whips, snapping several, but some still slipped through.
The moment the whip touched her arm, barbs instantly grew, tearing through skin and flesh. Droplets of blood splashed into the air, hanging suspended for a moment before being swept forward by the airflow of Su Mi’s charge.
Su Mi’s thick, long eyelashes cast shadows under her eyes. Her pale face was speckled with blood, creating an intersection of cold elegance and eerie beauty.
She gathered those few drops of blood in her palm and flung them toward the ice dragon. The blood merged into the dragon upon contact, triggering a burst of light. The surrounding incantations accelerated their rotation, and as her spiritual power surged, the dragon’s body grew larger, eventually shattering the golden seals bound to it.
Frost carrying an absolute chill fell toward the surrounding black fire. The previously arrogant flames were silenced and extinguished instantly.
The fully-formed ice dragon roared and charged at Yue Qianzhou. While he narrowly avoided it, his shoulder was caught by the dragon’s claw. The sound of flesh and bone being crushed was sickening.
Wanqi Yue, who had been suppressed by anger, seized the moment. Her long sword left an afterimage in the air, pointing directly at Yue Qianzhou’s back. Upon contact, she flicked the sword upward, leaving a several-inch-long wound. Before she could go further, the blood sparrow arrived just in time to force her back.
Yue Qianzhou spat out a mouthful of blood. He roared with wide, furious eyes as winding demonic qi poured relentlessly from his body. Demonic patterns even began to crawl up his neck. A group of blood crows detached from the blood sparrow, let out sharp cries, and turned into red light that merged into his body.
In the wild gale, Su Mi could not get close to him either, forced to watch him complete the transformation.
His flesh regrew into a full, powerful form. Yue Qianzhou looked up and laughed, his eyes filled with madness and cruelty as he stared at Su Mi: “Come on!”
Before his voice even faded, Su Mi sent the ice dragon crashing down. While Yue Qianzhou defended himself, Fang Yun arrived with a mid-air strike, but a red shield expanded behind Yue Qianzhou, blocking her completely.
Su Mi said in a deep voice: “Second Junior Sister, go kill the blood sparrow.”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Fang Yun turned back.
Su Mi fixed her gaze on Yue Qianzhou. The pitch-black whip wrapped frantically around the ice dragon to restrain it. She commanded the dragon’s long tail to swing at Yue Qianzhou.
Seeing the opening her Eldest Senior Sister created, Wanqi Yue stepped forward, repeatedly leaving wounds on Yue Qianzhou.
Under their combined coordination, Yue Qianzhou began to lose ground, his movements showing signs of irritation.
Su Mi saw her chance and stepped forward, conjuring a blue light in her hand. Elegant calligraphy floated in mid-air, and she struck the flowing forbidden curse into Yue Qianzhou’s body. Blue-gold light erupted from his back, and his entire body looked as if it were ensnared in a great blue-gold net.
The moment he was bound, Yue Qianzhou released a massive burst of spiritual power. The golden net dug into his exposed flesh, leaving deep marks, and blood seeped from the gaps between his teeth.
In the next second, he broke free. The blood sparrow, which was dying at Fang Yun’s hands, turned into red light and dove into his body. Yue Qianzhou glanced upward and suddenly took to the sky. The moment he touched the top, the blood-colored markings on the barrier above, acting like maggots on a bone, instantly vanished.
Realizing what was happening, Su Mi shouted: “Stop him!”
Following the command, the ice dragon instantly shot into the sky toward Yue Qianzhou. But it was a step too late. Su Mi’s barrier shattered under the brute force of the impact.
Just as Su Mi was about to give chase, the formation beneath her feet flickered. She gritted her teeth and forcibly suppressed the restless formation. “Second Junior Sister, you chase him first!”
Once she managed to suppress the formation, Su Mi rose immediately. She grabbed onto the translucent ice horns of the dragon and leaped onto its head. She then turned and reached out her hand to Wanqi Yue, a silent invitation.
Wanqi Yue didn’t hesitate, taking her hand and being pulled up.
Amidst the whistling wind, Su Mi half-embraced Wanqi Yue. Her body temperature felt slightly cool compared to Wanqi Yue’s. Clouds brushed past their faces.
Wanqi Yue wanted to turn around to check the wounds on her Eldest Senior Sister, but Su Mi held her firmly, preventing her from moving.
Su Mi lightly touched Wanqi Yue’s earlobe and whispered in her ear: “Only you can kill him.”
The sensation on her ear gave Wanqi Yue no time for embarrassment, as the subsequent words left her confused: “What does that mean?”
Su Mi paused for a moment, touching that soft earlobe again. “It means exactly what I said.”
On the busy streets, a sudden, jarring clap of thunder echoed from the distance. As the crowd looked up, they saw a black and red figure crash down from the sky, slamming into the ground and creating a crater several meters wide. The surrounding shops shook, and several cracks appeared on the walls.
Following closely behind was Fang Yun, standing with her sword drawn. She looked at the surrounding people: “This place is dangerous. Please leave quickly.”
The civilians were terrified by the sudden turn of events, screaming and fleeing in all directions, while children stood frozen in place, wailing.
Some people cowering on the ground recognized the person who climbed out of the crater.
“This… isn’t this Young Master Yue and Immortal Fang?”
Yue Qianzhou spat out blood. Stained half-red, he looked terrifying. He suddenly gave Fang Yun a smile, clutching his wounds as he staggered forward a few steps, his expression showing a hint of suppressed grief.
“The people of Mount Qingyang want to kill me without rhyme or reason. Is this the face of your immortal sects?”
Yue Qianzhou’s pale face and indignant voice made for a truly pitiable act.
The civilians who hadn’t left yet began to feel doubtful.
“Is there some misunderstanding?”
“Yeah, they’ve beaten him into this state.”
Fang Yun pointed her sword at Yue Qianzhou: “Look clearly, this man is a demon cultivator.”
Upon hearing the words “demon cultivator,” fear flickered in the eyes of the populace.
Seeing this, Yue Qianzhou added: “It was you who forced me into the demonic path! Now you’re turning around and blaming me? If I hadn’t turned to the dark side, I would have died under your swords long ago, becoming a wandering ghost!”
The fickle crowd wavered again. Some who had read too many stories even felt that even if Yue Qianzhou was a demon cultivator, so what? Everyone had seen his good deeds over the past few days.
“I see this demon cultivator doesn’t seem any different from us. Do you righteous types just kill demons regardless of right or wrong?”
“I’ve read it in books, the righteous path loves to persecute the demonic path.”
“Good and evil have always been at odds. I don’t see anything wrong with this.”
Despite the critical moment, the people began to argue among themselves about the positions of the righteous and demonic paths.
Fang Yun had no time for these pointless arguments. She stood her ground, staring at Yue Qianzhou, but hesitated to strike for fear of harming the bystanders.
A red glow faintly appeared in Yue Qianzhou’s hand behind his back. The next moment, the blood crows in his hand flew toward a person nearby. By the time Fang Yun saw it, it was too late to intercept.
At this critical juncture, someone descended from the sky with a sword strike, forcibly repelling the demonic claws Yue Qianzhou had prepared to take a life. The blood crow was sliced in two, but did not die, instead thrashing on the ground.
It was Wanqi Yue.
“Do you even know what a demon cultivator is?”
The question from the sky was accompanied by a dragon’s roar. An ice-blue dragon circled above. Everyone looked up to see a tall, elegant woman looking down at them.
“There are thousands of paths in the world. Why is only the demonic path called ‘demon’?” Su Mi said calmly. “It is not a matter of different camps or stances. It is because demonic techniques rely on the lives of countless living beings to drastically increase their strength. Simply put, their hands are stained with the blood of the innocent. Otherwise, if everyone could simply ‘become a demon cultivator,’ where would the distinction between good and evil come from?”
The ice dragon circling in the air descended slightly, and Su Mi landed gracefully.
Su Mi took a step forward and reached out, capturing the thrashing blood crow from a distance. Once her spiritual power seeped into it, the crow’s sharp cries gradually turned into the agonizing screams of a man.
She gave a cold glance to the people around her: “Those of you who understand now, leave immediately. Those who wish to continue defending this ‘demon cultivator’ are more than welcome to stay.”
