- Chapter 28 - But Her Lips Were Very Soft
The night was deep, and the air was as cool as water.
At some point, slight snoring began to drift from the inner room from Xu Xiufen to Li Can, the three generations of the family were all sleeping soundly. In this era without televisions or mobile phones, even the New Year’s Eve vigil was merely symbolic, people still went to bed on time when the hour struck.
But Li Yan was the exception today.
Having napped in the afternoon and again in the evening, she wasn’t sleepy at all in fact, she was exceptionally energetic. After sitting idly and watching the person across from her read for a long while, Li Yan felt bored to death. She whispered a plea to her companion: “Lin Yishu, stop reading. Play with me for a bit.”
Ever since their conversation ended, Lin Yishu had been buried in that book, even forbidding Li Yan from disturbing her. She had been reading for nearly an hour now.
“Just play with me for a while,” Li Yan added quickly, her voice unconsciously carrying a hint of a coquettish pout, fearing an immediate rejection.
Lin Yishu found this tone curious. She shifted her gaze from the book to the speaker. Li Yan was propping her chin on her arms on the table, her head tilted as she stared with bright, dark eyes. Under the lamplight, her eyes sparkled, her mouth was slightly puckered from her plea and a stray tuft of hair stuck up at the crown of her head. She looked… incredibly cute.
She looked like a well-behaved, expectant little puppy waiting for its owner’s affection.
Lin Yishu suddenly thought of the fluffy white puppy her sisters kept back home. Although she didn’t like those sisters, she couldn’t deny that the puppy was adorable. After all, a puppy is innocent.
“Lin Yishu? What are you thinking about? Did you hear me?”
Seeing no response, the voice across the table grew dissatisfied. Lin Yishu snapped back to reality and nodded. “I heard you.” As she answered, she couldn’t suppress a smile, the corners of her lips curling upward.
She wondered what Li Yan’s reaction would be if she told her she looked like a dog.
Looking at the person who had started smiling for no apparent reason, Li Yan’s heart skipped a beat. Once she regained her composure, she instinctively made an excuse for herself. It’s the lamp’s fault for being so bright. And why does she have to look so good when she smiles in the middle of the night?
“What are you laughing at?” Li Yan asked, trying to keep her thoughts natural and composed.
Lin Yishu didn’t answer. Instead, she followed up on the previous request. “What do you want to play?”
Though she was asking, she had already closed the book in her hands, clearly ready to accompany her. Li Yan’s attention was instantly diverted, throwing her previous question to the wind. she pulled out a deck of cards from nowhere and placed them on the table with excitement. “Let’s play cards! Do you know how to play ‘Pull the Train’?”
Cards? Pull the Train?
Lin Yishu had no idea how those words fit together. Naturally, she didn’t understand, so she shook her head honestly.
“Ah? You don’t even know ‘Pull the Train’?” Li Yan was shocked, her words losing their filter. “Have you never played cards? What about glass marbles? You must have jumped rope, right?”
Seeing the expression on the other woman’s face turn more and more silent, Li Yan found it unbelievable. “You must have played hide and seek at least? Lin Yishu, did you not have a childhood?”
Li Yan was truly shocked. She assumed everyone in this era grew up playing these vintage games.
Lin Yishu’s expression soured. After a long silence, she puffed out her cheeks and snapped at the shocked girl, “So what if I haven’t played them? Who says you have to play those things! I just haven’t, so what? Now, don’t ask me to play with you!”
Seeing that she was genuinely angry, Li Yan immediately slapped her own mouth and “slide knelt” to apologize. “No, no, no, I didn’t mean anything by it. How about I teach you?” She gave a flattering smile.
Lin Yishu turned her head away, refusing to look at her.
Li Yan wasn’t discouraged. She pulled out a few cards to demonstrate. “Look, it’s like this, if you play a card that matches one on the pile, you take the whole stack. Whoever runs out of cards first loses. The winner gets to set a punishment.”
The person she was watching out of the corner of her eye finally turned back. Lin Yishu tilted her head proudly, looking like victory was already hers. “Hmph, so simple. Even if I didn’t play as a kid, I can still beat you. Let’s start.”
Li Yan wanted to say, “Keep dreaming,” but seeing that the other had finally cooled off, she didn’t dare say more and got straight to the game. She dealt the cards, and the game began.
Perhaps there truly is such a thing as “beginner’s luck.” When the first round ended, Li Yan had actually lost miserably.
She sighed toward the ceiling, looking at the person who was now suppressing a smile. “I lost the first round. Name the punishment.”
Lin Yishu hummed for a few moments, in no rush to speak. Suddenly, her eyes flickered with a mischievous thought.
Li Yan immediately felt a sense of dread.
Sure enough, the other woman leaned in closer and lowered her voice to a whisper: “The punishment is… you have to act like a puppy for me.”
As the girl moved closer, a rich fragrance of roses bloomed at the tip of Li Yan’s nose, faintly mixed with the scent of strong wine. Li Yan’s head instantly felt dizzy. The back of her neck began to heat up again, and the pheromones in her body rampaged, wanting to break free and entwine with the rose scent.
Li Yan’s mind roared, and a current of electricity surged through her body, bringing waves of numbness.
These pheromones… the scent on Lin Yishu… mixed with the smell of wine.
It was her pheromone. The lingering scent she had left in the other’s body that hadn’t fully dissipated yet.
Once two people have undergone a temporary marking, their pheromones become like water and milk, blended and inseparable. Her mind uncontrollably replayed the scene from earlier that moment of desperate, clinging intimacy.
Before her was the Omega’s enlarged face, at the same close distance as before. She could even feel the other’s hot breath on her skin. Li Yan’s heart raced like a trapped deer, and she reflexively leaned backward.
The smile on Lin Yishu’s face froze. She reached out toward the person who was falling back.
“Li Yan, you…”
Before she could finish, a soft sensation brushed quickly past her cheek. A fleeting touch.
Her back hit the wall behind her, and she was pinned in a twisted posture between Li Yan’s arm and the wall. As her swollen and sensitive gland collided with the rough surface of the wall, a flash of pain appeared on Lin Yishu’s face. She furrowed her brows and let out a sharp hiss.
It hurt. The gland felt as if it were being scraped by a wire.
Lin Yishu couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed. It’s all Li Yan’s fault!
“What are you doing?” She pounded on the other’s chest in irritation, using both hands to push the person pressing against her.
Li Yan was completely stunned. Although the contact with her lips had been brief, the sensation was so vivid that the image remained burned in her mind. Lin Yishu’s cheek was soft, like a fluffy pastry and it carried a faint fragrance.
She suddenly had the urge to take another bite. To taste exactly what it was like.
The moment that thought surfaced, Li Yan snapped out of it, terrified. Ahhh, what was I just thinking? I must be crazy!
Li Yan scrambled to separate herself from the person she was holding. No, not holding, the person she was pinning down.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” She bowed ninety degrees in apology. “I didn’t mean to pin you down, I just didn’t pull back in time when you grabbed me. And I didn’t mean to kiss you, it was an accident!”
Lin Yishu’s movement to stand up froze. She glared at the person staring at the floor. She had originally intended to let the matter pass naturally, but Li Yan just had to say it out loud!
Despite her thoughts, her eyes couldn’t help but seek out the other’s lips. Li Yan’s head was hard, the collision just now made her shoulder ache but her lips were very soft. Softly brushing against her face, carrying a hint of moisture.
Realizing what she was thinking, Lin Yishu’s face flushed with shame. She coughed, suppressing her fleeting thoughts, and acted as if nothing had happened. “You said it was an accident, so how can I blame you?”
Fearing she would dwell on the topic, she immediately changed the subject. “My back hurts.”
Li Yan looked up and saw the girl’s teary eyes. She panicked instantly. “Where does it hurt? Lin Yishu, where do you hurt?”
Lin Yishu clutched her neck, straightening her waist with some difficulty. She was embarrassed, but because the pain was so severe, she whispered the truth: “My gland. My gland hurts a lot.”
Li Yan no longer had time to blush. Lin Yishu’s face had turned pale from the pain. She hurriedly helped her sit down and reached out, wanting to pull back the girl’s collar to check.
Lin Yishu tugged at her collar, still feeling shy. In truth, her gland had been uncomfortable ever since the marking earlier that day, but out of embarrassment, she hadn’t said a word. If she hadn’t grazed the wall just now, she probably would have endured it in silence all night.
Li Yan understood her concerns. She softened her voice and asked patiently for permission, “Lin Yishu, will you let me take a look?”
Lin Yishu finally let go of her collar. She brushed her hair aside and lowered her head, for the first time voluntarily exposing her gland to another person.
Lin Yishu felt her hands trembling. She couldn’t tell if it was from the pain or excitement. Even if they had already performed a marking, an Omega voluntarily exposing their gland to someone else was a sign of extreme trust.
Lin Yishu couldn’t quite figure it out. Did she already trust Li Yan to this extent? Regardless, she didn’t seem to mind the action in her heart.
The Omega’s slender neck was bare before her, but Li Yan didn’t have a single lecherous thought. This was because she saw the Omega’s originally small, delicate gland was now swollen and bright red, stinging her eyes.
I’m terrible.
Li Yan couldn’t help but condemn herself in her heart. How could she… how could she have worn the girl out like this?
She looked down at the person whose eyes were filled with shimmering tears. With Lin Yishu’s personality, someone so afraid of pain, she had endured this all day because of shyness. How much suffering must she have gone through?
Li Yan suddenly dropped to one knee on the floor, looking up at her with stinging eyes. “Lin Yishu, you’re such a fool. If it hurts, you have to say so! Aren’t you the one who’s most afraid of pain? Why were you so tough today?”
Lin Yishu was startled by the sudden kneeling, not understanding why she had done it. When she heard the words, her eyes flickered away, too shy to look back. She stubbornly replied, “Who said I’m most afraid of pain? Is that how I look to you?”
But before she could finish, she heard a sudden sob.
She followed the sound and saw Li Yan’s eyes filled with tears. She looked incredibly aggrieved, staring straight at her while sniffing occasionally.
“It must hurt so much, Lin Yishu. It’s all my fault. I was too rough, I’m such a jerk…”
As she spoke, she began to sob so hard she couldn’t speak, so she simply buried her face in Lin Yishu’s lap and wept quietly.
Lin Yishu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Who was the one in pain here? Why was she the one crying so piteously?
But she couldn’t bring herself to say anything else. She simply raised her hand and gently stroked the other’s head, comforting her. “I’m fine, Li Yan. Although it’s a bit uncomfortable, it’s not as bad as you think. I just accidentally hit the wall and scraped it. It should be fine tomorrow morning. You don’t have to blame yourself…”
Her own eyes began to redden. Not because of the pain. But because she finally understood what it felt like to have someone care for her.
It turned out that when someone cares for you, even if your body hurts, the pain doesn’t feel so bad anymore. It was truly miraculous.
