“Brother Lin?”

Shen Ying didn’t know this representative’s full name, he only knew that his surname was Lin.
Even though Brother Lin had only been running back and forth to the hospital these past few days managing things for him and his grandfather under Jiangshi’s name, it didn’t lessen the immense gratitude Shen Ying felt toward him in his heart.
Seeing Brother Lin now felt like seeing a familiar face, which helped ease most of Shen Ying’s initial nervous tension.
Brother Lin offered Shen Ying a gentle smile: “Come in and have a seat. My young master told me to wait for you here. Did you bring all the documents he asked for?”
Shen Ying stepped into the room and pulled out all the requested materials from his backpack. As he handed them over, he scanned his surroundings and noticed no trace of anyone else having been there.
“Brother Lin… is your young master not here?” Shen Ying couldn’t help asking.
“The young master has other matters to attend to today,” Brother Lin replied, flipping through the documents to inspect them.
Without offering any further details, Shen Ying sensibly nodded, knowing not to pry.
“All the documents are here.” After checking that nothing was missing, Brother Lin looked up and said to Shen Ying, “I’ll be taking my leave then. My young master specifically instructed that you stay here and get some good rest.”
“I’m staying here?” Shen Ying blinked in confusion.
When he walked in and didn’t see Jiangshi, hearing that Jiangshi was busy today made him assume this was just a temporary place Brother Lin used while running back and forth from the hospital.
“Yes, these were my young master’s explicit instructions,” Brother Lin repeated.
“Why?” Shen Ying asked. “Is he coming over later?”
“My apologies, but I’m not entirely sure about that. He only instructed me to wait for you here to collect the documents and tell you to get a good rest.”
Shen Ying slightly opened his mouth, wanting to ask more, but the phone in his pocket suddenly rang. He pressed down his confusion and pulled out his phone. When he saw the caller ID, his expression froze momentarily.
It was actually a call from Jiangshi.
The nervous tension that had just settled flared right back up. Shen Ying instinctively glanced at Brother Lin, who simply gestured for him to answer it.
With no other choice, Shen Ying swiped to accept the call, turned his back, and pressed the phone against his ear.
“It’s Jiangshi.”
An unhurried, crisp, and cold teenage voice sounded by his ear. The faint trailing accent and simple self-introduction left Shen Ying rooted to the spot in complete shock, completely forgetting that he was supposed to be nervously waiting for orders.
“H-Hello… I’m Shen Ying,” Shen Ying stammered out, his voice fluttering slightly after snapping back to reality.
Why did this voice sound so strangely familiar?
Before he had time to dig through his memories, Jiangshi on the other end asked, “Did Brother Lin get your documents?”
“Yes, I’ve already handed them to him,” Shen Ying answered rapidly, before asking softly, “Can I ask what you need these documents for now?”
“Transferring schools.”
“Huh?” Shen Ying was startled.
“Unwilling?” Jiangshi’s tone noticeably dropped a few notches, sounding as though an unsatisfactory answer would spark his anger.
“No, no! I’m willing! It’s just… a bit sudden,” Shen Ying quickly clarified his stance.
“Mm. I still have things to take care of. Stay in the hotel. Don’t leave on your own before I contact you.”
“Okay, I got it.”
Though he didn’t understand the reason behind it, Shen Ying knew that obeying unconditionally was the right choice—after all, a ” obedience agreement” still stood between them.
It was just a pity he still had so many unanswered questions.
Yet miraculously, despite not meeting Jiangshi in person, and despite Jiangshi’s tone over the phone being strictly non-negotiable—giving off a feeling that he must never be crossed—the panic and anxiety about facing the unknown began to dissolve the moment Shen Ying heard that voice.
Judging by the voice, he sounded like a teenager his own age.
The Jiang Family Villa.
Having just finished the call with Shen Ying, Jiangshi was sitting on a chair before a long table in the second-floor study. Seated across from him was a young woman dressed in formal attire.
With a pen and paper at hand, she waited quietly for Jiangshi to finish his phone call before speaking in a soft, gentle voice: “Xiaoshi, do you know that Mr. Jiang called me over today half a year earlier than our originally agreed time?”
“Mm.”
“Then do you know what Mr. Jiang’s intention is?”
Jiangshi rubbed the edge of his phone with his fingertips, his gaze not resting on the woman. “Mm.”
“Before I came, Mr. Jiang mentioned that you made a friend?” Ignoring his terse and rebellious attitude, the young woman continued to look at him and asked gently, “Was that the boy on the phone just now?”
At the mention of the word “friend,” a subtle shift appeared in Jiangshi’s expression. It wasn’t until her sentence fully landed that he raised his eyes to look at her.
“What kind of person is he? Can you tell Sister Cheng about him?”
“…”
Jiangshi shifted his gaze away, returning to his posture of heavy resistance toward communication.
“Xiaoshi, why are you so resistant to talking with me this time?” Though Sister Cheng’s words were inquiring, her tone was immensely patient and steady. “If you don’t speak, should I interpret this as…”
“Sister Cheng, I saved his grandfather’s life, and he signed an agreement with me voluntarily,” Jiangshi interrupted her in a tone that allowed no argument. “I don’t believe I crossed any of the red lines you listed.”
“…”
After processing the information in his reply, Sister Cheng remained remarkably calm, looking as though she was long accustomed to him speaking this way. “Alright, I understand. Rest assured, Sister Cheng isn’t here to lecture you today. In fact, I should praise you—after all, you saved a human life.”
Jiangshi said nothing.
“Judging by his voice, that boy is about your age, right? Is he from Yinan No. 1 High School?” Sister Cheng asked.
“He will be soon.”
Will be soon implied he originally wasn’t.
Sister Cheng: “How did you two meet?”
“By chance.” For whatever reason, one of Sister Cheng’s words seemed to reach him, and Jiangshi gradually became willing to communicate.
Holding her pen, Sister Cheng asked, “What aspect of him attracted you? Xiaoshi, if you trust me enough, answer me honestly.”
“He is very clean.”
Hearing this answer, Sister Cheng—who had served as Jiangshi’s psychological counselor and moral tutor for years—instantly understood what the word “clean” signified here.
“You don’t mind him having physical contact with you at all?” Sister Cheng hit the nail on the head upon hearing it. “Or rather, should I ask… do you crave his touch?”
The finger Jiangshi used to rub the phone case instantly froze. He remained silent for a long moment.
“I bet you were extremely excited when you met him, right?” Sister Cheng noted his body language and pressed on softly. “Did you even think to yourself when you saw him: ‘If only this boy could stay by my side forever and belong to me’?”
“Yes. He is mine now,” Jiangshi spoke up instantly upon hearing her words.
Boldly and madly, he faced his own desires head-on without holding back an ounce of concealment.
Faced with his possessive reaction toward another person, Sister Cheng showed no sign of alarm, her tone remaining composed: “He’s yours now? Does he know that? You said you two signed an agreement—what are the terms?”
“He has to listen to me.”
“Obey you?” Sister Cheng finally showed a different reaction, looking puzzled for a few seconds before breaking into a swift smile. “Alright, you really are a quick learner. It seems that boy truly reached the end of his rope, and you seized that opportunity quite firmly.”
Without waiting for Jiangshi’s response, Sister Cheng seized the momentum to guide him: “Since you still have the patience to sit here and listen to me talk, I’ll take it as you wanting my help.”
“You knew to transfer him to another school so he could keep studying—that proves you are fully aware that he is a person, not one of those objects you used to hide at home. Xiaoshi, you did very well this time. Not only did you save his grandfather, but you also know what can and cannot be done. As for the specifics of why you made him sign an obedience agreement, I won’t pry into the details—I can pretty much guess anyway.”
“…”
“But please believe me: you really don’t need to use an agreement to restrict him in any way. Even if you did, he’d probably comply—after all, you’re his grandfather’s savior now. But since you clearly have a far better approach, don’t use a method that might make him end up hating you in the future. Don’t you think so?”
These words finally seemed to hit a chord Jiangshi was interested in. His defensive posture gradually relaxed, and he raised his head to look at Sister Cheng, the blatant hostility in his eyes finally fading away completely.
“Xiaoshi, you are a smart person. Taking your own situation and everything around you into account, think about how to turn those factors into your advantages when interacting with this boy.”
“…”
Sister Cheng offered her final piece of guidance: “Jiangshi, you need to learn how to display weakness appropriately.”
Back at the hotel, Shen Ying had originally intended to sit and rest for a bit, but ended up accidentally falling asleep on the sofa. What woke him was the ringing of his phone.
When the ringtone startled him awake, his body jerked violently—whether it was because the phone volume was set to maximum or because he was mid-nightmare.
Shen Ying panted as he sat up straight, his heart pounding violently. Once he remembered where he was, he reached out toward the sound to grab his phone while using his other hand to rub his face vigorously to wake himself up.
However, the moment he saw the caller ID on the screen, Shen Ying snapped awake completely. He cleared his throat and answered as quickly as possible, terrified of being disrespectful.
“It’s me,” that crisp, pleasant voice soon sounded.
“…I know,” Shen Ying thought to himself. He hadn’t expected that even with his quick reaction, he still couldn’t beat Jiangshi’s pacing.
“Did you just wake up?” Jiangshi asked upon hearing his voice.
Shen Ying stayed silent for two seconds before saying, “Yeah. Are you coming over? Or is there anything you need me to do?”
“Someone will deliver dinner to you shortly. Leave after you finish eating.”
“Oh, okay, thank you.” Shen Ying’s brain was still groggy. “But you don’t have to send it up specifically—I can just go downstairs and grab a quick bite.”
“It’s already ordered. Eat before you go.”
Shen Ying didn’t dare refuse: “Alright, thank you.”
After those words, silence fell over the line. It was quiet for so long that Shen Ying thought Jiangshi had already hung up. He pulled the phone away slightly to glance at the screen and saw the call was still connected.
Truthfully, he had so many questions he wanted to ask, but combining his previous text exchanges with their phone chats, he realized Jiangshi seemed to really dislike being questioned.
“Did you sleep well?”
Unexpectedly, while Shen Ying refrained from asking, Jiangshi took the initiative to speak.
“Yeah, I slept really well,” Shen Ying replied with a gentle smile in his tone.
Apart from having a nightmare, he really did sleep well. He had only noticed the time when he checked his screen earlier—he hadn’t expected to sleep for over ten hours. This was the longest he had slept without waking up startled midway through ever since his grandfather collapsed and was hospitalized.
“Shen Ying,” Jiangshi suddenly called his name.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry.”
?
Shen Ying began to doubt if he was actually awake.
Without giving Shen Ying much time to be confused, Jiangshi took the initiative to explain in a soft voice: “Without asking for your consent beforehand, I went ahead and arranged for your transfer to my school, Yinan No. 1 High School. I’m sorry… I just wanted you to go to school with me.”
The moment these words came out, Shen Ying completely forgot about why Jiangshi’s manner of speaking had changed so drastically in a single day, nor did he have time to ponder why his savior was suddenly apologizing to him.
The sheer amount of information packed in Jiangshi’s words directly answered many of his burning doubts. His tone was left with nothing but astonishment.
“You’re… from Yinan No. 1 High School?”
