Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 7
Lu Yanwei assumed Shen Shirou was simply talking nonsense in her drunken state.
“I loved the cake you made, and I’m more than happy to be your friend,” Lu Yanwei replied softly. “I don’t think you’re annoying at all.”
“You don’t have to lie to me,” Shen Shirou said, her expression dejected. “I know I’m always bringing you trouble.”
“Trouble?” Lu Yanwei rested her cheek on her hand. “On the contrary, the time I spend with you is always very relaxed and pleasant.”
Shen Shirou looked up at Lu Yanwei, seeking confirmation with an air of disbelief. “Really?”
“Of course,” Lu Yanwei said.
Shen Shirou murmured, “Then it’s a promise. Yanwei can’t hate me like she does.”
She?
Lu Yanwei didn’t know who the “she” in Shen Shirou’s mouth was. However, as long as Shen Shirou stopped pouring more drinks, it was enough for Lu Yanwei to breathe a sigh of relief.
Lu Yanwei shook her head, her tone quite helpless. “I admire you very much, so don’t talk about yourself like that anymore, okay?”
“You’re drunk,” Lu Yanwei sighed. “No more alcohol, or you’ll have a terrible headache when you wake up tomorrow morning.” She quietly moved the wine glass away from Shen Shirou to prevent her from stubbornly continuing to drink.
Fortunately, Shen Shirou seemed to concede. She didn’t try to pour another glass; instead, she sat quietly, listening to the guitar and singing in the bar.
Time seemed to slow down. Neither knew how long they lingered there. By the time Lu Yanwei looked back at her companion, Shen Shirou had closed her eyes at some point and fallen into a deep sleep.
Shen Shirou lay motionless against the counter. The dim light traced the rosy flush on her cheeks, making her look exceptionally delicate. Likely due to the alcohol, she slept heavily. Her breathing was shallow and long, as if she were completely isolated from the noisy bar around her.
Faced with this quiet and beautiful scene, Lu Yanwei hesitated for a moment. Her hand, which had been reaching out to wake Shen Shirou, stopped mid-air.
Ultimately, Lu Yanwei hailed a taxi and took Shen Shirou back to her home for the night.
She carried the sleeping Shen Shirou in her arms, placed her gently on the large bed in the bedroom, and tucked her in. She whispered a soft “Goodnight” into Shen Shirou’s ear before spending the entire night on the living room sofa.
When Shen Shirou woke up, the haze of alcohol had mostly dissipated. The sky was still a dull grey, not yet fully bright. She checked her phone; it was just past seven in the morning.
The lonely expression yesterday had been an act, but the amount of alcohol she had consumed was very real. In the end, she hadn’t even known when she had fallen asleep. Recognizing she was at Lu Yanwei’s house, Shen Shirou put on slippers and stepped out of the bedroom.
As soon as she pushed the door open, a delicious aroma wafted toward her.
“You’re awake?” Hearing her footsteps, Lu Yanwei peeked out from the kitchen. “You drank so much last night; you should sleep a bit longer.”
“No need.” Shen Shirou wasn’t particularly sleepy, though her consciousness was still a bit fuzzy from waking up.
“You fell asleep in the bar last night. I saw you were sleeping quite soundly, so I brought you back.” While explaining, Lu Yanwei brought several breakfast dishes from the kitchen. “I made some breakfast. Let’s eat together.”
With a quick glance, Shen Shirou could tell that Lu Yanwei’s culinary skills were far superior to her own.
“I boiled some hangover soup for you.” Lu Yanwei pointed toward the kitchen. “It’s still very hot; drink it once it cools down.”
Lu Yanwei got up this early just to do all this?
Shen Shirou couldn’t help but feel moved. This was far too considerate—no wonder she could eventually melt the thousand-year glacier that was Jiang Peixing.
“Yanwei, you’re so skilled,” Shen Shirou marveled. “I can’t believe you can make so many delicious things.”
“And you’re so gentle and understanding.” She flashed a bright smile at Lu Yanwei, offering her praise without reservation. “I’m so happy. It’s so good to know you.”
Hearing Shen Shirou’s praise, Lu Yanwei felt a bit shy. She averted her gaze, trying to hide her nervousness. “It’s nothing, really. It wasn’t that difficult.”
After breakfast, Lu Yanwei had to head out for a personal matter. She lowered her gaze. “Are you leaving now?”
“Go ahead, it’s fine,” Shen Shirou said. “I’ll wait for you to come back before I head out.”
Lu Yanwei agreed. “Okay.”
After Lu Yanwei left, Shen Shirou played a virtual game with System 888. Near nine o’clock, there was a knock at the door. Thinking it was Lu Yanwei, Shen Shirou went to greet her, only to find a stranger at the door.
Shen Shirou asked, “May I ask who you are?”
“Hello, I’m looking for Lu Yanwei. Does she live here?”
“That’s right.” Shen Shirou held the doorknob and explained, “But Yanwei went out; she’s not home right now.”
“I see.” the visitor explained. “I’m her friend.”
During the conversation, Lu Yanwei happened to return.
“I’ll let you two talk.” Seeing this, Shen Shirou consciously retreated into the bedroom, leaving the living room to them.
“Didn’t you say before that you didn’t have anyone you liked? I thought you were serious.” The friend teased Lu Yanwei. “It turns out you’ve secretly gotten a girlfriend and even brought her home. If I hadn’t bumped into her today, I’d still be in the dark.”
Realizing her friend had misunderstood her relationship with Shen Shirou, Lu Yanwei froze. She tried to explain, “You’ve got it wrong, we’re just—”
Before she could say the words “ordinary friends,” she was cut off.
“Fine, fine, I’ll keep your secret. It’s just a relationship; what’s there to be embarrassed about? You brought her home and you’re still denying it.” The friend patted Lu Yanwei’s shoulder and joked, “But with a girlfriend that beautiful, you really should keep her hidden, or someone might try to steal her away.”
Lu Yanwei opened her mouth but said nothing. Clearly, her friend was convinced of the relationship. A misunderstanding was one thing, but Lu Yanwei’s gaze drifted toward the bedroom. She wondered how good the soundproofing was.
Did Shen Shirou hear that?
Lu Yanwei couldn’t quite explain why she was so particularly worried about Shen Shirou’s potential misunderstanding.
Shen Shirou eventually left Lu Yanwei’s residence. Before leaving, she once again declined Lu Yanwei’s kind offer to see her home.
The reason was simple: it was the weekend. If Lu Yanwei bumped into Jiang Peixing on the way, it would be a disaster. After all, Lu Yanwei still didn’t know about her connection to Jiang Peixing. According to the original plot, it wasn’t time for that exposure yet.
Jiang Peixing happened to be away from the villa as well. She probably didn’t even know Shen Shirou hadn’t come home last night—no, it was more likely that even if she did know, she wouldn’t care at all.
Shen Shirou used to pity Qi Yan, but thinking about it now, she felt a bit more pity for Lu Yanwei.
Recalling the matter of the shares she had asked System 888 about, Shen Shirou contacted a lawyer and had a contract drawn up. She didn’t know when Jiang Peixing would return.
Shen Shirou waited until eleven at night. While waiting on the sofa, she unintentionally began to doze off. In a half-dreaming state, she was awakened by a sudden noise.
Opening her eyes, she saw Jiang Peixing. “Sister Jiang.”
Shen Shirou called out to her. “This is for you.” She placed the contract on the coffee table and pushed it toward her.
Since the night of the banquet, the relationship between Jiang Peixing and Shen Shirou had grown even worse. Previously, Shen Shirou would always rush to say something whenever she saw her. But since storming out that night, she hadn’t spoken to Jiang Peixing for days. And Jiang Peixing was even less likely to seek her out.
“I don’t have time to waste with you,” Jiang Peixing said, her voice cold.
Shen Shirou took a moment to brew an expression of both anger and grievance. “If you don’t look, Sister, how do you know it’s a waste of time?”
Jiang Peixing showed no emotional fluctuations. “I’m not interested.”
“This is a contract to return the Jiang family shares to you,” Shen Shirou said in a low voice. “Are you still not interested?”
Jiang Peixing’s gaze shifted to Shen Shirou. “What do you mean by this?”
“I don’t want any of the Jiang family’s shares,” Shen Shirou said. “I want to give them back to you.”
Jiang Peixing stared at her, her expression unreadable. After a moment of contemplation, she picked up the contract and began to flip through it slowly.
“If you find no issues with it, Sister, please sign it.” Shen Shirou took out the pen she had prepared and handed it over.
“Why?” Jiang Peixing frowned, the emotion in her eyes ambiguous.
The contract was virtually flawless. Because of that, Jiang Peixing found it even harder to believe that Shen Shirou would give up the shares so easily. She tried to guess the motive, but she couldn’t find a single reason in a situation that seemed to have only downsides for Shen Shirou.
Shen Shirou shook her head. “Because these aren’t what I want.”
Jiang Peixing found the reason laughable. Hadn’t the engagement been for this exact purpose? For Shen Shirou to claim now that this wasn’t what she desired was beyond absurd.
A flash of coldness flickered in Jiang Peixing’s eyes. With a thin, mocking smile, she asked, “Then what is it you want?”
“What I want,” Shen Shirou replied, “only you can give me, Sister.”
Jiang Peixing lowered her gaze, a trace of derision crossing her face. Just as she expected, Shen Shirou clearly harbored ulterior motives regarding the Jiang family assets.
What could it be? Jiang Peixing sneered inwardly. A villa? A subsidiary? Or perhaps the entire Jiang empire?
Shen Shirou stood up and drew closer to Jiang Peixing. Looking into those eyes—as deep and vast as a star-studded night, Shen Shirou saw her own reflection mirrored back at her.
She tilted her head up and, before Jiang Peixing could react, pressed a swift, light kiss against her cheek.
A sweet voice drifted into Jiang Peixing’s ear. “What I want, of course, is you, Sister.”
