Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 30
Only two words resonated in Shen Shirou’s mind.
Help me.
No matter how she looked at it, Lu Yanwei didn’t seem like she would ever fall for Jiang Peixing. Even worse, she hadn’t given up on pursuing Shen Shirou at all.
Am I really going to be stuck in this world for the rest of my life?
Thinking Lu Yanwei was about to confess again, Shen Shirou decided to strike first. ” Yanwei, I understand how you feel, but I truly,” She paused for effect. “I don’t want to think about romance at all right now.”
Deep down, Shen Shirou hoped Lu Yanwei would take the hint and back off.
But Lu Yanwei didn’t.
She held Shen Shirou close, burying her face against her shoulder. “I know. Your feelings for Jiang Peixing aren’t something you can just forget overnight. It’s likely too early for you to accept me.”
“I’ll wait until there’s no more room for her in your heart before I continue my pursuit,” Lu Yanwei whispered. “Until then, I’ll just be your best friend. I won’t do anything out of line. I’ll keep my feelings tucked away for now.”
Lu Yanwei took Shen Shirou’s hand, her eyes swimming with tenderness. “You don’t need to feel troubled.”
In all fairness, Lu Yanwei was the pinnacle of consideration. But Shen Shirou couldn’t bring herself to feel grateful. The task of reuniting the “official couple” felt more insurmountable than ever.
Lu Yanwei was still worried. “Now that you’ve moved out of the Jiang villa, do you have a place to stay? Why not move in with me? I’m not comfortable with you being alone.”
Shen Shirou had briefly considered it, but given their delicate situation, she knew she had to maintain some distance. Living at Qi Yan’s house was actually the safer bet. At least Qi Yan had nothing to do with her mission—no risk of plot interference there.
“I’ve already found a place,” Shen Shirou said, shaking her head. “Moving in would be a bother to you anyway, so it’s better this way.”
Lu Yanwei didn’t push her.
As Shen Shirou prepared to leave, Lu Yanwei walked her to the door. “Shirou, if you run into any trouble, you must tell me.” She was ready to do anything for her.
Before Shen Shirou could reply, Qi Yan’s voice rang out from behind.
“Since you’re finished with your friend, shouldn’t we be going?”
Qi Yan had stepped out of the car and was waiting nearby. Fortunately, Lu Yanwei and Qi Yan didn’t know each other. This was their first real meeting, as Qi Yan had only ever seen Lu Yanwei from a distance. Qi Yan had no idea about the confession, so Shen Shirou didn’t have to worry about a scene—at least for now.
Once they knew each other’s true identities, Shen Shirou knew she’d be the first one caught in the crossfire.
Shen Shirou didn’t waste any more time. She said her goodbyes and climbed into Qi Yan’s car.
“You never remember to wear the bracelet I gave you, and you haven’t messaged me once in months,” Qi Yan said with a smile as she drove. “Yet, you seem quite preoccupied with this ‘friend’ of yours.”
Despite the smile, Shen Shirou sensed that Qi Yan was in a foul mood.
“I lost the bracelet,” Shen Shirou lied. She had actually left it back at the villa, but lying seemed like a cleaner way to get Qi Yan to stop bringing it up.
Qi Yan’s knit brows finally relaxed.
Noticing they were heading in a different direction than Qi Yan’s mansion, Shen Shirou asked, “Aren’t we going back?”
The light turned red. Qi Yan braked and glanced back at her. “Darling, didn’t you say you were cooped up and wanted freedom? Have you changed your mind? Do you want to go back to being a bird in a cage?”
In her three months in this world, Shen Shirou had only ever gone out for the mission—either to Lu Yanwei’s or Jiang Peixing’s office. Her private time was spent at the villa, playing games and bickering with System 888. It was a comfortable life.
“Where are you taking me?”
Qi Yan arched an eyebrow. “It’s a secret.”
“President Jiang, Miss Shen has not been to the office.”
Hearing the expected answer, Jiang Peixing couldn’t tell if she felt disappointment or something else entirely. With Shen Shirou gone, everything felt hollow—which was ironic, considering Shen Shirou was the person she supposedly found most annoying.
Jiang Peixing nodded to Rong Yuan. “You may go.”
Once the door was closed, Jiang Peixing sat back in her chair. She buried herself in documents, trying to force her attention back to work. A task that usually took five minutes now took thirty. She couldn’t focus.
Halfway through the afternoon, she grabbed her car keys to leave, but there was a knock at the door.
“Come in.” She thought it was Rong Yuan.
It was Lu Yanwei. She held an envelope and placed it on the desk.
“This is my resignation letter.”
Jiang Peixing glanced at it. “You’re quitting?”
“Yes,” Lu Yanwei replied firmly. The position of director meant nothing to her. She had only stayed because it allowed her to see Shen Shirou every day, even if Shen Shirou was only there to see Jiang Peixing. Now that they were apart, there was no reason to stay.
Despite her personal dislike for the woman, Jiang Peixing had to admit Lu Yanwei was exceptionally talented. Normally, she would have asked for a reason or tried to negotiate.
But she didn’t. She felt an instinctive, inexplicable urge to push Lu Yanwei away.
“As you wish,” Jiang Peixing said coldly.
As Lu Yanwei turned to leave, Jiang Peixing remembered their relationship. Her brow furrowed. “Wait.” If Lu Yanwei was Shen Shirou’s friend, she might know where she was.
Lu Yanwei stopped and looked her up and down. “What do you want?” She didn’t think for a second that Jiang Peixing wanted her to stay.
Jiang Peixing composed herself. “Have you seen Shen Shirou lately?”
Lu Yanwei saw right through her. “Shirou doesn’t want to talk to you, and now you can’t find her, can you?” She gave a small, sharp laugh. “You’ve neglected her for so long, President Jiang. Now that she’s gone, shouldn’t you be happy?”
