Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 15
Lu Yanwei couldn’t help but wish that time could freeze in this moment. Yet, she understood all too well that such a wish was destined to remain unfulfilled.
Seeing Shen Shirou struggle to move in the voluminous wedding dress, Lu Yanwei suggested, “Let me lead you by the hand.”
“Mhm.” Shen Shirou placed her hand in Lu Yanwei’s palm.
Recalling the tone of Shen Shirou’s voice over the phone, how she had practically pleaded for company to the bridal boutique, a wave of suppressed frustration surged in Lu Yanwei’s heart. What kind of terrible fiancée would choose to abandon her on such an important day, leaving her to come here all alone?
As much as she felt anger toward the unknown woman, she felt even more pity for Shen Shirou. If I hadn’t come today, would she really have been here by herself? How lonely would she have felt? Lu Yanwei didn’t even want to follow that train of thought.
“If you say it looks good, then it must be true. I trust your taste.” Shen Shirou turned back to the mirror, examining the gown. She murmured softly, “I just wonder if she’ll like it.”
It was glaringly obvious who she meant.
Lu Yanwei instinctively furrowed her brow. At a time like this, Shen Shirou was still thinking about the fiancée who had neglected her. She felt a deep sense of injustice on Shen Shirou’s behalf. Despite her mounting resentment, she held her tongue; she feared that bringing up the subject would only upset her friend. She refused to do anything that might hurt Shen Shirou.
“Lost in thought again?” Meeting Shen Shirou’s eyes, Lu Yanwei said warmly, “I promise, you are the most beautiful bride in the world.”
“Even I want to marry you and take you home,” Lu Yanwei added in a teasing tone. “How could anyone not like you?”
She couldn’t openly declare her love, so she could only hide her secret in words that only she truly understood. Even if Shen Shirou remained unaware, she felt a strange sense of satisfaction.
Lu Yanwei moved behind her to smooth out the ruffled train. “There, now it’s perfect.”
“Yanwei, thank you. I really shouldn’t have troubled you today.” Shen Shirou lowered her gaze. “I don’t even know how to repay you.”
“Don’t say such silly things,” Lu Yanwei chuckled. “I received my payment a long time ago.”
“Hm?” Shen Shirou looked puzzled. “But I haven’t done anything.”
“You smiled.” Lu Yanwei paused her hands and looked directly at her. “For me, there is no better reward than that.”
With Lu Yanwei’s help, Shen Shirou quickly finalized the style of the wedding dress. After leaving the boutique, she dragged Lu Yanwei into a milk tea shop as a gesture of thanks.
She ordered two cups. When the clerk handed them over, Shen Shirou popped a straw in and took a sip before realizing something was wrong.
“Yanwei, I think this one is yours.” Shen Shirou pointed to the cup in her hand. “We mixed them up.”
“I haven’t touched mine yet,” Lu Yanwei said. “Let’s just swap.”
Shen Shirou froze. “But I already drank from this one.”
“It doesn’t matter.” Lu Yanwei reached out and exchanged the cups. “You’re my most important friend; I wouldn’t mind something so small.”
But that was only half the reason. The other half remained buried in her heart. Lu Yanwei looked down and took a sip of the tea that had just been in Shen Shirou’s hand. The sweetness of the drink was intoxicating. To her, this was perhaps the closest physical contact they could ever share.
After the wedding dress matter was settled, the plot moved into its next stage: Jiang Peixing’s birthday.
According to System 888, during this period, the relationship between Shen Shirou and Jiang Peixing would take a nosedive, growing increasingly hostile. This served as the necessary build-up for the eventual annulment of their engagement.
As luck would have it, the birthday fell on a workday, and Jiang Peixing was at the office. In the original plot, Shen Shirou would go to the company to deliver a cake. Jiang Peixing would show zero gratitude, throw the cake away, and later tell Shen Shirou at the villa never to distract her from work with such trivialities again. This would lead to a massive argument.
Committing the script to memory, Shen Shirou handmade a birthday cake. She packaged it beautifully and headed toward the Jiang Corporation in a surprisingly good mood. Finally, the breakdown of the relationship begins. This meant it wouldn’t be much longer before she could break the engagement and return to her own world.
She originally planned to leave the cake at the front desk and ask them to contact Jiang Peixing. However, the moment she stepped into the lobby, she ran into Rong Yuan.
Rong Yuan spotted her too. At first, she thought she had misidentified the woman, but as she drew closer, she realized it really was Shen Shirou. “Shirou? What are you doing here?” she asked, surprised. “Are you looking for the President?”
“It’s Sister Jiang’s birthday today,” Shen Shirou said, keeping a straight face. “I made a cake for her. I was worried she’d be too busy to come home tonight, so I brought it here.”
Rong Yuan believed her without hesitation.
Shen Shirou looked up expectantly. “Where is she?”
“She’s in a meeting.” Rong Yuan checked her watch. “It shouldn’t be over for another half hour.”
Shen Shirou immediately changed her plan. Since she had met Rong Yuan, she didn’t need to wait around for Jiang Peixing herself.
“I see.” Shen Shirou looked disappointed. “Then, could you please give the cake to her for me?”
“You’re not going to give it to her personally?” Rong Yuan paused. “I can notify her.”
“She’s in a meeting; I don’t want to disturb her.” Shen Shirou sighed, affecting a sorrowful air. “Besides, she might not even want to see me.”
Even Rong Yuan felt a pang of sympathy. As the personal assistant, she knew better than anyone how coldly Jiang Peixing treated Shen Shirou. Unable to refuse, she agreed to take the cake.
Shen Shirou had only been away from the company for a few steps when dark clouds gathered, turning the sky a heavy, oppressive grey. It looked like it could rain at any moment.
And so it did. Within ten minutes, raindrops began to fall. Initially, it was just a light drizzle, which Shen Shirou didn’t mind. But as time passed, the rain turned into a torrential downpour.
Soaked to the bone, Shen Shirou took shelter under a roadside eave.
【Shen Shirou summoned System 888: “Babe, you didn’t mention the rain in the script.”】
【System 888 replied: “Isn’t this how all dramas go? A heavy downpour right before a big fight. Besides, this is a third-rate melodramatic novel.”】
【System 888 added: “Furthermore, you didn’t ask.”】
There were very few cars passing by. If she wanted a taxi, she’d have to run several hundred meters to the main street. Of course, there was another option: she hadn’t gone far, and she could immediately retreat to the company to find Jiang Peixing.
Just as she was hesitating, a silver Cayenne pulled up in front of her. Water cascaded down the car’s sleek frame as the window rolled down slowly.
“Get in.”
A captivating, melodic voice cut through the noise of the storm.
Shen Shirou looked at Qi Yan behind the wheel and fell into deep thought. She was soaking wet, and sitting in that car was the most dangerous antagonist in the book—the woman who had previously declared she wanted to pursue her.
Should I get in this car or not?
