A Straight Wife Fallen from the Sky - Chapter 12
“You have money, right? I saw my parents give you a check yesterday.” Even as she said this, Sang Zhancheng obediently posted a question in her class group chat.
Hey sisters and family! Does anyone still have high school textbooks and study guides?
Since it was the last homework-free summer of their lives, everyone was letting loose and having fun, so the replies were instantaneous.
Yeah, Chengzi, you aren’t planning on repeating a grade, are you?
I have some, I’ll give them to you later. How is the search for a partner going?
Song Jiayu and Mu Li replied quickly, followed by a string of messages asking about Sang Zhancheng’s partner situation.
Watching Mu Jiahui heating up dishes for her, Sang Zhancheng felt deeply moved.
Found one! My partner is super nice! Omitted here: a thousand words of rainbow-fart flattery
Mu Jiahui returned with a rice bowl. She had also brought a spoon. “I’ll feed you. Open your mouth.”
“?” Before Sang Zhancheng could react, the spoon laden with food was thrust toward her lips. She had no choice but to open her mouth mechanically.
Even a feeding-play… this partner-sister really is great! It wasn’t in vain that I just praised her in the group!
However, before she could even taste the first bite or chew the rice, Mu Jiahui’s next spoonful arrived.
“Wait, I haven’t finished chew— mgh…” Before Sang Zhancheng could finish speaking, Mu Jiahui forcefully pried open her lips and stuffed the next mouthful of rice inside.
“Eat quickly. If you keep dawdling, I’ll continue feeding you like this.”
Mu Jiahui paused, scooped another spoonful, and stared at Sang Zhancheng. She looked very much like she would keep stuffing if the girl dared not to swallow, just to see how much rice her mouth could hold.
Sang Zhancheng almost choked.
Under Mu Jiahui’s demonic gaze, she chewed the food in her mouth frantically, managing to swallow the previous two bites just before that life-threatening spoon reached her lips again.
One spoon after another, Mu Jiahui was like an emotionless feeding robot, completely immune to Sang Zhancheng’s attempts at acting cute.
In less than eight minutes, the remaining half-bowl of rice was stuffed into Sang Zhancheng’s stomach.
“Waaah—!” Finally swallowing the last bite, Sang Zhancheng was finally able to cry out loud.
“You’re so annoying! I hate you! What’s the point of eating like this! And you forced me to eat—are you even human!”
Clutching her slightly bulging belly and feeling the food backed up all the way to her esophagus, Sang Zhancheng flopped onto the floor and began rolling around, muttering curses under her breath toward Mu Jiahui.
Mu Jiahui felt somewhat guilty, after all.
She simply couldn’t stand Sang Zhancheng’s agonizingly slow pace of eating. In a moment of impulse, the lunch box and spoon had moved into her hands, leading her to force Sang Zhancheng to finish quickly.
As for how uncomfortable this would make Sang Zhancheng, Mu Jiahui only realized it just now.
She didn’t apologize immediately, nor did she comfort Sang Zhancheng. This caused the girl, who was rolling gloomily on the floor, to cry even harder and start making threats.
“If you ever do this again, I’ll… I’ll divorce you! Wuuu… it hurts so much. I’ve never eaten so much in my life. You even fed me all the rice! How many pounds am I going to gain after this one meal!”
Being pointed at and told “I want a divorce” by a teary-eyed young girl was something Mu Jiahui was experiencing for the second time, so she remained calm.
She could sense that Sang Zhancheng didn’t actually mean it.
But aside from money, Mu Jiahui really didn’t want anything from her. If they divorced, so be it. At least she wouldn’t be called a gold-digger anymore.
“I’m sorry. I won’t force-feed you next time. However, if you’re the one proposing the divorce, I can keep that check, right?” Mu Jiahui was hell-bent on guarding her hard-won little treasury.
So this person really is after my family’s money.
Sang Zhancheng froze for a second, then began to cry as if the world were ending.
“What’s so good about money! Is money more important than me as a person! You actually… you’re actually after those mere worldly possessions! I’m not going to talk to you today at all!”
Mu Jiahui crouched down.
Through the gaps in her fingers, Sang Zhancheng saw her “nemesis” partner approaching. She slightly restrained her thrashing, waiting for Mu Jiahui to comfort her.
“Money is very important! You can’t survive without money. How can you say money is just a ‘worldly possession’?”
Mu Jiahui pinned Sang Zhancheng down and spoke a string of words with such righteous conviction that Sang Zhancheng couldn’t understand them.
Sang Zhancheng suddenly became furious.
She could ignore Mu Jiahui forcing her to eat, and she could ignore the fact that Mu Jiahui loved money to an incomprehensible degree, but she could not ignore the fact that Mu Jiahui seemed to feel nothing for her.
She was a Succubus! A race that everyone wished to marry!
To a human with no magic resistance, was her attraction really not higher than a few measly bucks?
“Can money buy happiness? Can money buy health? Can money buy a partner!”
Exasperated, Sang Zhancheng opened her mouth and bit the hand Mu Jiahui had placed on her shoulder.
Mu Jiahui let out a cry of pain and withdrew her hand. She looked at the tooth marks on the back of her hand and fell into a brief silence.
This kid might not be eighteen; she might be eight.
“It can’t, right! How can money be more important than me!”
Sang Zhancheng huffed, sitting on the spot with her arms crossed. Her tail had turned a frustrated purple-red, pointing at Mu Jiahui repeatedly as if condemning her words.
“…Money can buy travel, good doctors, and… it can buy a partner like me.” Mu Jiahui closed her eyes and resigned herself to her fate.
She had no way of explaining the importance of money to someone who had been pampered and well-fed since childhood.
When she was so poor that she only had a single cent to her name and couldn’t even afford the bus, this young miss was probably at home eating an exquisite lunch that took her an hour to finish.
“Uh, how are you even a good partner? Does a good partner force-feed people!”
Sang Zhancheng was rendered speechless by Mu Jiahui’s logic and decided to give up arguing about the money.
Mu Jiahui pinched the bridge of her nose, as if trying to push up a pair of non-existent glasses.
“I… I really won’t do it again. I’m sorry. I was just anxious because I saw you eating so slowly.”
This was her fault; she had to admit it. No matter how anxious she was, she shouldn’t have forced someone else.
Having received an apology, Sang Zhancheng’s arrogance instantly deflated.
She pouted and gave a “hmph,” still looking angry.
However, her tail had returned to a pinkish hue, betraying her actual mood.
“I will fulfill the responsibilities of a partner,” Mu Jiahui raised her hand and swore.
“Really?” Sang Zhancheng turned her head to meet Mu Jiahui’s gaze. Her glass-like eyes were coated in a layer of golden light, and her tail immediately began to wag happily. She was clearly thinking of something else.
Mu Jiahui pushed away Sang Zhancheng, who had leaned in wanting a kiss.
“You still have magic left, don’t you? What I mean is that I will supervise your studies so we can achieve mutual success and grow together properly.”
Sang Zhancheng froze in place, biting her lip.
How is that a partner’s responsibility? A partner’s most important responsibility is making love!
“I can only last for another two hours! If you don’t want to kiss, then don’t! It’s not like… it’s not like I care that much anyway, wuuu…”
Using retreat as a form of advance, she didn’t believe Mu Jiahui could really be that cold and remain indifferent to this.
But Mu Jiahui truly made no further move. “Call me in two hours. Your classmate has the textbooks, right?”
“Mhm, Mumu will be here in two minutes. I’m so bored. Can you go shopping with me today? I want to get my nails done, eat chestnut cake, drink milk tea…”
Sang Zhancheng was pulled up by Mu Jiahui, having already forgotten the “no kissing” grudge.
“You’re starting your review today. Where are you going to find the time to play?” The Mu-Demon uttered the most vicious sentence of all.
