- Chapter 59 - A Sea of Roses
After a restorative night’s sleep, the group gathered at the stables at 8:00 AM sharp.
The equestrian competition held no real suspense; Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin won easily. Whether it was riding skill, technique, or partner intimacy, they were practiced to perfection. They only lost one round in a collaborative performance where their synchronization fell slightly behind the “Bing Tang CP.”
This was understandable, as the Bing Tang CP spent most of their time at the stables slowly gathering footage for their edit, naturally boosting their rapport over time. Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin, both being skilled riders, had spent most of their time either sitting idly or wandering about, leading to a slight drop in competitive sharpness.
Since it was the final day, the production team didn’t hold back. The designed movements and interactions, while completed in pairs, focused less on CP intimacy and more on body lines—perfect for inserting advertisements. If this season hadn’t featured female stars, Director Cheng might have tried to sew a logo into their armpits.
Sheng Lan, feeling playful, recited ad copy for several familiar brands they had collaborated with and winked at the camera. “Remember to send our wedding gift money, thanks.”
The equestrian event concluded with a group photo of everyone riding together. Director Cheng timed everything perfectly, adjusting rest periods to end the competition segment exactly at 9:50 AM.
At 9:55 AM, everyone moved to the rest area. Sheng Lan entered her livestream room and shared the link in the group chat, inviting the other guests to watch the “Sea of Roses.”
“Admission is free, but no real money please. Just send the free flowers you’ve saved up.”
Meng Qing was the first to respond, and the Bing Tang CP was happy to play along for the sake of the finale. Even Ji Xinlan took the opportunity to make a demand: “I’ll give you the flowers, but I’m not cooking the farewell dinner tonight.” Sheng Lan agreed readily.
As 10:00 AM approached, Lu Xueyin grew increasingly tense, holding her breath. Sheng Lan remained steady, even teasing her for looking like a “nervous bride meeting the in-laws for the first time.”
In the final ten seconds, Sheng Lan began a verbal countdown. The bullet comments were already lagging into a blur. At exactly 10:00 AM, after a slight delay, the special effect finally bloomed. A speck of starlight appeared in the center of the screen, transforming into a bud before exploding into a gorgeous, dense sea of flying roses. The flowers swayed with the wind, a stunning sight.
At that moment, a familiar cold fragrance seemed to drift through the air.
Sheng Lan immediately snapped back to reality and bumped Lu Xueyin with her elbow. Lu Xueyin reached up to press her suppressant patch, her expression neutral as she let her hand drop. On a live broadcast, they at least had this much presence of mind.
Sheng Lan kept the conversation flowing while Lu Xueyin acted as the perfect “straight man” to her jokes, bringing the brief thank-you session to a perfect close.
While changing clothes, Lu Xueyin mentioned she would be fine until the end of the broadcast, but they could perform a marking at noon if absolutely necessary. Seeing that she didn’t look too haggard, Sheng Lan felt relieved.
Next was the poolside activity. To stay steady, Lu Xueyin stayed on the periphery with a shawl wrapped around her, shamelessly lying through her teeth that she didn’t know how to swim.
Lunch was the “Reunion Meal,” where the guests engaged in some typical adult social theater talking shop, discussing future projects, and subtly testing the waters for future collaborations. After the meal, the production team deviously announced that all their accumulated points had been cleared to pay for the feast, meaning they had to forage for their own ingredients for the farewell dinner.
During the afternoon break, Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin did their final coordination. This would be the last interview, and they needed to be on the same page. Sheng Lan was concerned about Lu Xueyin’s heat. Lu Xueyin felt it would hit today but wanted to hold out until 8:00 PM when filming ended so she could go home.
“Quite the sense of ceremony you have,” Sheng Lan muttered, emptying half a bottle of suppressant spray on Lu Xueyin.
Lu Xueyin looked at her and asked softly, “Without your medicine, can you even perform a marking?”
A storm raged in Sheng Lan’s mind. She realized Lu Xueyin thought she was “unprepared,” and therefore incapable of marking her. Sheng Lan pursed her lips, meeting Lu Xueyin’s teasing green eyes, and told her to wait.
She silently recalled the vitamins she had swapped into her medicine bottle before the trip, the perfect prop to pass off as a “cure” for her supposed marking inability.
Since Lu Xueyin rarely entered Sheng Lan’s room during filming, and they hardly brought up such private topics when together, the matter of “marking inability” had been pushed to the back of their minds for a while.
Now, Sheng Lan brought out the medicine. After checking that the cameras were covered and the recording equipment was off, she placed the bottle in front of Lu Xueyin, signaling her to “inspect the goods.” Lu Xueyin didn’t recognize the medication and didn’t care to scrutinize it, choosing instead to bypass the technicalities.
She threw a direct ball that rendered all of Sheng Lan’s preparations useless. She asked, “Do you want to pay me back that marking right now?”
Sheng Lan’s mind was quick, and she replied instantly, “Sure.”
Since Lu Xueyin didn’t care about the sense of ceremony and her pheromones were indeed leaking, it was better to be safe. Unlike a typical Omega, Lu Xueyin couldn’t simply rely on suppressants to get through her heat.
The two headed to the bathroom—the same “old place” where they had performed their first marking at the start of the show.
Lu Xueyin stood before the sink, watching Sheng Lan through the mirror. She pulled her thick, long curls forward, exposing her porcelain-white neck. Unlike the first time, which was fueled by aggressive provocation and a suppressed desire for conquest, this time was filled with tenderness and care.
Their eyes met in the mirror. Sheng Lan gave a shallow smile and told her to close her eyes.
Lu Xueyin felt a soft touch travel from her back to her neck, followed by a slight sting and a rush of pleasure that hit her brain. Her knees went weak. Even though her physical health had improved, her resistance to Sheng Lan’s pheromones seemed to have dropped to zero.
The scent of tequila invaded her senses, as if she had been dunked into a pool of spirits. The shy little rose wilted instantly under the influence of the alcohol.
After the break, the two sprayed two entire bottles of deodorizer to mask the scent.
Sheng Lan felt a bit guilty as she watched Lu Xueyin and sent her a “cat kneeling for mercy” emoji. Lu Xueyin didn’t understand why at first, until she checked the mirror in the bathroom and saw the deep bite mark on her gland. She muttered under her breath, “Do you think you’re eating a duck neck?”
The “duck neck enthusiast” Sheng Lan was also deep in self-reflection: No experience the first time, no sense of depth the second… was this just naturally terrible technique?
However, when they met up in the afternoon, Lu Xueyin actually comforted her. The gist was: because Sheng Lan was “incompetent,” she obviously hadn’t marked other Omegas before, so her lack of experience was normal. With proper treatment, she would eventually reach the average Alpha level.
Sheng Lan, looking grave, led Lu Xueyin outside the manor and said seriously, “I didn’t take any medicine today. I am a perfectly normal, functioning Alpha.”
Lu Xueyin gave her a look that said “I believe whatever you say,” but her teasing green eyes gave her away. She clearly thought Sheng Lan was just being stubborn.
Sheng Lan couldn’t explain it further, thinking only: We have a long time ahead of us.
The afternoon tasks went smoothly. While the others hunted for points and gathered poultry, Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin stayed in the vegetable garden.
As filming was nearing its end, everyone was relaxed. Only Lu Xueyin, whenever she bent down to pick vegetables, would feel the sting of the bite mark on her neck, prompting her to shoot Sheng Lan a sharp glare every now and then.
By 5:00 PM, they set up the farewell dinner by the pool. With the open air and fairy lights, the atmosphere was perfect.
The dinner turned into a session of “commercial flattery.” Sheng Lan and Meng Qing, the two social butterflies, kept the conversation flowing so that everyone felt included.
During the “Night Talk” segment, the popular guest voting officially began. Meng Qing led early on but was eventually overtaken by Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin, finishing third. Yan Bing was gracious about the results, expressing hope for a future collaboration with Tang Yingyue. Tang Yingyue, in turn, revealed some private details about their time together, giving the CP fans plenty to chew on.
As for the “Plastic CP,” Meng Qing and Ji Xinlan acted like a bickering couple that finally made it. They spun their constant sabotage of each other during the month into a “deep friendship,” managing to maintain their heat quite skillfully.
When it was Sheng Lan and Lu Xueyin’s turn, they remained as bold as ever. They turned the sweet-and-sour ambiguity of the last few days into a sharp, competitive energy. The audience flooded the chat: “We know you’re just making ‘sugar,’ but you’re doing a great job. Give us one more!”
Finally, as the popularity winners, they received a gift from a mysterious sponsor. When the red cloth was pulled back, their smiles froze.
It was a pair of rose quartz medals. In the center of the circular plaques were their photos, surrounded by the cheesy text: “LOVE YOU LOVE YOU NEVER PART.”
With the show’s countdown timer ticking, they used their professional acting skills to maintain their composure and performed one last “sand sculpture” romantic gesture—placing the medals around each other’s necks.
“Keep it safe,” Sheng Lan joked. “This is our ‘token of love’.”
