- Chapter 24.1 - May Rose
Lu Xueyin wasn’t frightened instead, she was deeply worried.
She thought Sheng Lan was just venting, the kind of stubborn talk meant to prove she was “capable.”
Just to be safe, she still sent a message to Jiang Ling, asking her to find a reliable doctor to come over.
When the time came, she’d avoid the cameras for a while and settle the matter.
In the hallway, Sheng Lan was here on a mission.
Her phone displayed the live feed of her empty room, the screen flooded with scrolling comments, layer upon layer, nearly illegible colorful replies from viewers picking out gifts.
“Yeah, the production team told me to come and start the livestream.”
“I’m not gonna turn it on the second I walk in, Why? Because I need to coax my wife. What are you all watching for? Do I not get to keep my dignity?”
“What explanation? There isn’t one. If you ask, I just climbed into the wrong window.”
She had a knack for controlling the rhythm. As soon as she finished speaking, she conveniently reached Lu Xueyin’s door, pocketed her phone without a care for the overwhelming barrage of comments in the livestream, and knocked.
“Jiejie, I brought you breakfast.”
[She doesn’t even think she did anything wrong, she won’t even admit she’s here to apologize.]
[Climbed a window? What window? Was there a livestream of her climbing a window?]
[If any sisters saw it, please share, wuwuwu!]
[Don’t listen to her nonsense. If she can climb into the wrong window, she can sleep with the wrong person.]
[Can’t she just go with the flow?]
Lu Xueyin didn’t deliberately keep her waiting. As soon as she heard the knock, she opened the door but stayed hidden behind it, not even revealing a corner of her clothes.
The door wasn’t opened wide, just a narrow gap to signal that entry was permitted.
The scent of rose pheromones drifted out. Sheng Lan didn’t hesitate, testing the door’s resistance, it wasn’t much. She slipped in sideways and quickly shut the door behind her.
The hallway camera facing this direction only caught a glimpse of the water stains on the carpet for a second.
Lu Xueyin had been frequently cooling herself with cold water, splashing only her wrists, but it wasn’t very effective.
Her makeup was still on, and she had already changed clothes, so taking a cold shower wasn’t a feasible option.
Sheng Lan set the breakfast on the small table, then pulled out a deodorizing spray from her backpack and spritzed it all over the doorframe, especially the cracks.
She asked Lu Xueyin how she was feeling. “You don’t seem very clear-headed.”
When body temperature runs too high, thoughts become sluggish and slow.
Under the influence of pheromones, people might also do things they’d never normally consider.
Lu Xueyin looked as if she’d been dyed by roses, her skin flushed pink from the inside out, her face a deep crimson.
Her eyes were hazy, but her words were still clear. “I’m fine.”
Not wanting to misunderstand again, she asked Sheng Lan directly while Sheng Lan was spraying the inhibitor, if she could mark her.
She didn’t mention the medication, leaving the answer entirely up to Sheng Lan.
Sheng Lan glanced at her phone. Meng Chan would arrive in twenty minutes.
And since Lu Xueyin was coherent enough to hold a conversation, she could clearly wait.
She sat down at the small table, keeping some distance from Lu Xueyin, her tone deliberately provoking.
“That little ‘payment’ of yours isn’t worth my time.”
Lu Xueyin frowned. “Name your price.”
Sheng Lan studied this little rose, already soaked through with the scent of roses yet not putting up much resistance, and offered her a friendly suggestion.
“Let’s make a trade.”
Her voice carried a teasing temptation. “I’ll give you a temporary marking, and you kiss me once.”
This exchange was perfectly fair.
Both would use their mouths. Both would involve intimate contact.
No one would take advantage.
After saying this, Sheng Lan sprayed more inhibitor and deodorizer.
The inhibitor bracelet on her wrist had lost its effectiveness she could feel her pulse quickening.
Because she thought Lu Xueyin wouldn’t agree, Sheng Lan even turned on her phone, planning to play a match-three game to distract herself.
She pointed to the bathroom and said to Lu Xueyin, “Before you make up your mind, I suggest you keep your distance from me.”
Lu Xueyin didn’t move but stepped further from the door, leaning lightly against the wall near the bathroom.
She could sense Sheng Lan wasn’t as composed as she appeared.
Despite extreme restraint, the faint scent of Tequila pheromones was barely detectable.
But an Omega in heat had heightened sensitivity to pheromones this wisp of alcohol was even more tantalizing.
Her gaze lingered briefly on Sheng Lan’s dark blue backpack before she looked away.
She wondered if there was medicine inside.
She disliked owing anyone.
Last time, it had been her cold, insistent invitation. This time, it was reciprocity, she would offer trust first, paying the “fee.”
A mark would be ideal. If not, it would be Sheng Lan’s fault.
Having made her decision, she walked toward Sheng Lan.
Her steps were slightly unsteady.
Like Sheng Lan, she had dressed for the outdoor livestream no skirts, just casual pants and a cropped top. Simple, but her figure and poise elevated the look, clean and refreshing.
Only a sliver of pale skin at her waist hinted at her usual sensuality.
Hearing the sound, Sheng Lan looked up, momentarily stunned before chuckling. “You’re agreeing to the exchange?”
The closer she got, the stronger the rose scent became.
Not a cold fragrance.
Lu Xueyin’s resistance wasn’t as strong as expected.
Sheng Lan rubbed her throat.
A dryness no amount of water could quench.
It itched.
Lu Xueyin teetered on the edge of reason, wavering.
Looking down, she studied the unruly black hair at Sheng Lan’s crown and the dark eyes unmasked by colored contacts that betrayed her true nature.
Her voice was faint. “Where do you want to kiss?”
Now this was interesting.
Sheng Lan knew how to tease.
If Lu Xueyin was in good spirits, she could play around.
If not, she had to get straight to the point, no roundabout sarcasm.
Otherwise, things would backfire.
So she asked, “Have you ever kissed anyone, Ms. Lu?”
Lu Xueyin shook her head honestly.
On-screen kisses were faked. Given her status, she’d never had to “sacrifice” for art.
She also chose her scripts carefully, avoiding roles with too much intimacy.
And her tolerance for Sheng Lan was higher.
When she’d agreed to marry, she’d tacitly accepted that physical contact was part of the deal.
Just obligations.
Lu Xueyin confirmed, “You want to kiss?”
Sheng Lan’s eyes darkened as she studied the dryness on Lu Xueyin’s lips.
Part of her knew this wouldn’t quench her thirst, yet she still longed to taste them.
With a hint of suggestion, she said, “You’ve called a doctor, right?”
Lu Xueyin didn’t seem the type to stake everything on her.
Lu Xueyin nodded.
She remembered Meng Chan’s advice, a mark was best.
Back at the hospital, there’d been no solution. If the mark failed, they’d try again. Even if the doctor came, Sheng Lan’s cooperation might still be needed.
Her legs gave way, and she acted on her decision.
With a hint of spite, she deliberately sat on Sheng Lan’s lap.
She was light, but Sheng Lan still swayed slightly.
Not from her weight just surprise at the boldness, her mind reeling.
The room was set up for the dating show, full of ambiance.
Yesterday’s acting hadn’t used it. Today, with the livestream screen blacked out and mics off, pheromones in the air and the thrill that the show might abruptly resume, everything in the room was intoxicating.
The deep blue curtains bore an electrocardiogram pattern, with tiny little hearts connected in a line, pulsing up and down as if visualizing a heartbeat.
The white roses on the table had been arranged to match Lu Xueyin’s outfit from the day before, now exuding an impossible-to-ignore delicate fragrance.
The wicker chair was cunningly designed slightly too wide for one person, slightly too cramped for two, pulling the distance between them infinitely closer.
Lu Xueyin wanted to get this over with quickly, without further delay with Sheng Lan.
She moved in swiftly, but Sheng Lan dodged even faster.
For once assertive, Lu Xueyin leaned forward, half-collapsing into Sheng Lan’s embrace, their softness pressing together, making her body stiffen momentarily.
Undeterred, she used both hands to cup Sheng Lan’s face and forcefully kissed her.
She had deeply experienced Sheng Lan’s mischief and didn’t want to be accused of lacking sincerity, so the kiss was deep.
Clumsily prolonging it, she even attempted to explore further.
Perhaps it was the proximity, or perhaps Sheng Lan’s breathing had grown erratic.
The scent of Tequila Pheromones thickened, softening Lu Xueyin’s reluctant, task-oriented demeanor, now clearly infused with earnestness and curiosity.
Eyes tightly shut to escape reality, she refused to look at Sheng Lan.
So at this close range, it was Sheng Lan who watched her.
Her trembling lashes were dotted with tiny droplets.
Tears squeezed out for who-knows-what reason.
Sheng Lan chose to interpret them as pleasure.
She wrapped an arm around Lu Xueyin’s waist, pressing the back of her head, effortlessly seizing control.
