A Scummy Alpha and An Award-Winning Omega Actress Fell in Love After an Arranged Marriage - Chapter 22
Sheng Lan set her alarm for five o’clock, got up, changed clothes, and freshened up.
Before stepping out, she checked the live stream.
Meng Qing had already gone to sleep, leaving the stream dark, and Lu Xueyin’s doorway was empty.
But there was a “living thing” at her own door.
Ji Xinlan.
Her face was so oily it gleamed, no surprise she hadn’t slept all night.
Sheng Lan sprayed moisturizing water right in her face.
Such a rough Omega was truly rare.
As usual, she ignored her.
To create the illusion that she and Lu Xueyin had “slept together,” she couldn’t just knock on the door.
The cameras were watching that would be boring.
She decided to climb through the window.
While doing her makeup, she took a moment to open Lu Xueyin’s chat window.
Seeing the two replies, Sheng Lan chuckled and sent back a heart.
[Shan Feng]: Screenshot saved.
[Shan Feng]: You admitted it yourself, you’re my wife.
By the time she finished her makeup, Lu Xueyin still hadn’t replied.
Sheng Lan didn’t see the “typing” status either, guessing Lu Xueyin had fallen asleep.
So she politely sent a heads-up message.
A voice note.
“Jiejie, I’m coming through the window.”
During yesterday’s afternoon stroll around the estate, Sheng Lan had noted the building’s structure.
The European-style architecture featured triangular peaks above the windows, making them easier to climb.
Others weren’t as bold as her even if they had ideas, they wouldn’t dare act on them. Without Lu Xueyin’s cooperation, this move would be highly controversial.
But she was different.
Climb first, think later.
From a distance, it was the fans’ encouragement.
Up close, it was for the sake of their collaboration.
Besides, she wasn’t going to do anything to Lu Xueyin.
Most importantly, Lu Xueyin was still on medication and needed to flush out the Inducer.
Plus, pheromones were stronger during sleep, so she’d leave the window open to air out the room lest the next morning, someone caught a whiff of the overwhelming rose scent.
Sheng Lan stepped from her room onto the window ledge, dropped to the ground floor, and smoothly redirected herself into Lu Xueyin’s room.
The deep blue curtains swayed behind her as she tapped the floor with her shoe.
Lu Xueyin was a light sleeper, the sound stirred her awake.
Sheng Lan wasn’t cruel enough to take advantage. She didn’t approach the bed, instead sitting by the small table near the window and texting her assistant, Xiao Tao.
Her phone keyboard was set to sound effects each tap emitted a faint ding, like Mario hitting a block.
Lu Xueyin struggled awake.
By then, Sheng Lan had finished her message.
She told Xiao Tao to find a way to disable the cameras along her path to Lu Xueyin’s room for one minute.
If it worked, it meant Lu Xueyin had left the door open for her.
If not, well Sheng Lan was just an idiot climbing through windows.
Either way was fine.
Sheng Lan turned off her phone and called out, “Lu Xueyin, your pheromones are strong.”
The “fake Alpha” gave off a high sense of security.
Even with an Alpha barging into her room before dawn, Lu Xueyin only showed brief surprise before drowsily sinking back into her pillow, instinctively nuzzling it revealing a softness and docility she rarely displayed.
She stretched an arm out, groping around.
Her pajamas were even more conservative than Sheng Lan’s long-sleeved loungewear covering her milky skin, leaving only her hand stark against the dark bedsheets. Even in the dim light, Sheng Lan could clearly see her fingers flexing.
Lying prone.
Palm opening and closing.
Gripping the sheets.
Sheng Lan’s teeth itched.
She realized Lu Xueyin was far more alluring when she wasn’t conscious of it.
When she tried to flirt on purpose, it was just awkward.
Soon, the mood was shattered.
Lu Xueyin grabbed the Inhibitor and threw it at Sheng Lan.
“Who let you in?”
Sheng Lan tilted her head to dodge, then effortlessly caught it mid-air.
Without hesitation, she popped the cap open and sprayed it on herself.
Lu Xueyin narrowed her eyes.
Sheng Lan: “I’m wearing makeup. Spraying it directly on my face would ruin it.”
Then she shifted the blame, “Didn’t you allow this?”
Lu Xueyin denied it.
Sheng Lan pinned the blame on her anyway. “I know you, what you say and what you mean are two different things. You claim you wouldn’t leave the door open for me, but you left the window unlocked. Good thing I arrived on time, or would you have accused me of breaking our agreement?”
Under the cameras, Lu Xueyin had to maintain her image, so she held back from retorting.
But when the livestream was off, her true nature surfaced a little.
She rolled over, picked up her phone, and after checking their chat history, was thoroughly displeased with Sheng Lan’s replies.
“I told you not to even think about coming in.”
Sheng Lan: “You didn’t mean it.”
Lu Xueyin couldn’t sleep anymore.
Seeing that she was about to be too furious to rest, Sheng Lan soothed her, “Didn’t I warn you yesterday not to open the door?”
She had indeed.
Lu Xueyin pressed her lips together and stayed silent.
Sheng Lan got up and walked to the bedside, turning on the small lamp.
The warm orange glow wasn’t harsh, and Lu Xueyin didn’t even squint.
The proximity felt dangerous, so she scooted inward, trying to sit up.
Sheng Lan pressed a single finger against her shoulder. “Just a few words, then you can go back to sleep.”
“Last night, Ji Xinlan knocked on my door too. You knew that, didn’t you?”
Lu Xueyin frowned.
Now that she was certain Sheng Lan had no interest in her, she felt far less confident in front of her.
Hesitantly, she said, “But you wouldn’t entertain her.”
Meaning Ji Xinlan posed no threat to Sheng Lan.
Sheng Lan caught her drift. “So I should’ve stayed up all night, running around at ungodly hours, working overtime to protect my ‘dear wife.’”
Lu Xueyin’s face flushed instantly.
When she was in the wrong, she instinctively put up another layer of defense.
Her mind flashed back to Sheng Lan’s replies in their chat just like when she’d sent her a red envelope to buy lipstick, Sheng Lan had been unreasonable again, speaking without logic when the cameras and mics were off.
She unlocked her phone and nearly shoved it in Sheng Lan’s face.
“These are your own words.”
Sheng Lan narrowed her eyes, focusing on the wrong detail, the nickname Lu Xueyin had given her and read it aloud.
“‘A mountain too steep to climb’?”
Lu Xueyin yanked her phone back and slapped Sheng Lan’s finger off her shoulder, her tone cool. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going back to sleep. I’ll cooperate with you when the livestream starts.”
Her immediate surrender and flushed face betrayed her emotions completely.
Sheng Lan noticed the rose scent of her Pheromones had grown warmer.
Like a rich, intoxicating fragrance heated by body warmth, it curled gently into her senses, creeping toward the nape of her neck, trying to coax out a hint of Tequila Pheromones to intertwine with.
Sheng Lan thought of the late-night marking.
A preemptive mark wouldn’t stop a heat cycle, it only served as prevention.
Most Omegas could endure the heightened sensitivity and drowsiness of their heat without issue.
But in rare cases, the mark would be ineffective, as if it never happened, leaving the Omega in need of another mark or an injection when the time came.
Sheng Lan didn’t have the energy to argue about “climbing mountains” right now. Instead, she asked, “Haven’t you noticed your Pheromone levels are off the charts?”
Almost as if her heat had arrived.
