A Marriage with A Reason - Chapter 78
“Well, I’ll go now. Don’t worry about anything else for now, just focus on your mother’s issue. Until then, I’ll take care of things for you.”
“Thank you, really.”
“Thank you? You seem to have forgotten, but before being your friend, I’m like an older brother to Dayun. Of course, I secretly liked her, but don’t worry. From now on, I’ll think of her like a real younger sister and take care of her.”
With that, Junseok packed Dayun’s clothes, which Jaehoon had given her, and left the house. As soon as he left, the door slammed shut. Jaehoon stayed silent for a moment before going to his room, grabbing his car keys, and heading out.
“Right, the situation… it needs to be resolved.”
Jaehoon wanted to get rid of this complicated feeling as soon as possible. He hoped to go back to how things were, or even better, he wished for a future that was better than before. And for that, he needed his father’s help.
‘What can you do in this situation? Adults should solve adult problems.’
Junseok’s words were right. In the past, Jaehoon had helped Miyoung from a place of loneliness, thinking only from her perspective. To Jaehoon, she was just a hurt person, and his mother at that. But, in some ways, Jaehoon was a third party in that matter. He didn’t know what had happened between the two or his father’s position on it. So, for this situation, he needed his father’s help. As Junseok said, this issue had arisen because of the problem between the two of them.
“After this… it’s right to apologize to Dayun for deceiving her.”
Jaehoon got in the car and started the engine. His mother’s issue needed to be resolved quickly. Ignoring her wouldn’t solve anything, and even if things with Dayun were fixed, her heart wouldn’t be at peace.
“Here you go.”
“Oh… Oppa… Thank you so much. I’m sorry for bothering you.”
Junseok, after parting ways with Jaehoon, went straight to Dayun.
“Bother? I helped because I wanted to help.”
“Still, I should have brought it myself. I’m causing trouble for you.”
“Trouble? Just go inside and check. I’m not sure if I got everything right.”
“Eh, it should be fine. Even if you didn’t get it right, I can’t complain.”
Dayun received the bag with clothes and opened it to check.
“Wow, you brought a lot more than I expected…”
Just as Dayun smiled in gratitude, her face quickly hardened, and she began to look embarrassed.
“Why? Did you bring the wrong things?”
“No… it’s not that…”
“It’s not that? Your expression looks really weird.”
“Ah… I didn’t expect this twist.”
“Yeah?”
Junseok, however, looked confused, not knowing what was going on. Dayun, embarrassed, laughed awkwardly and stammered.
“I… I didn’t think you’d bring… underwear.”
Junseok, looking calm at first, then suddenly shouted in shock.
“Underwear?! What?!”
“Yes. But didn’t you pack it? Why are you so surprised?”
“Even if I’m like a brother to you, I wouldn’t pack underwear! I’m a man, and you’re a woman… that’s too awkward.”
His face seemed to turn red. After all, he didn’t have a sister or even a female cousin, so handling women’s underwear was quite awkward for him.
“Ah… then who…”
“Well… actually, it wasn’t me. Jaehoon packed it, and I just brought it over. I didn’t know what was what between you two, so I just brought it.”
Junseok was worried about Dayun’s reaction. He knew the situation between Dayun and Jaehoon wasn’t great right now. But surprisingly, Dayun was cool about it.
“Why would I be upset? Actually, you’re right. As long as you brought everything, that’s what matters.”
“Yeah, I’m glad you’re not upset.”
“I’ll head inside now.”
“Okay. Wait, Dayun!”
Dayun, who was about to go inside, turned around at Junseok’s call. He hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Jaehoon really worries about you. He feels bad for not being able to tell you everything. I’m not asking you to forgive him right now, or to accept him. He made a bad choice, and he regrets it. But… when everything settles down, if he wants to fix things… please give him a chance. Honestly, in his anger, he said something he didn’t mean, but he still cares for you. Being together is what would make you happy.”
After saying what he needed to, Junseok smiled warmly before turning to leave. It was a warm smile, but it seemed like it carried some pain, though he looked at ease.
As Junseok left, Dayun was left alone. Suddenly, she felt like the complicated feeling inside her was finally clearing up. She thought of Miyoung’s revenge, which had led Jaehoon to act, and how, as a result, they got married. But now, she felt that her heart and Jaehoon’s were in the same place.
“Sigh…”
Dayun sighed deeply, then smiled faintly. It felt like her mind had cleared, as though a heavy weight had been lifted off her chest.
Meanwhile, Jaehoon arrived at his family home.
“Ah, Jaehoon, you’re here!”
His mother greeted him warmly as he entered. Her bright face made him feel at ease, and he smiled back.
“Yes, how have you been?”
“Of course, I’ve been well. How are things with Dayun? She called the other day and said you two are getting along well?”
“Yes, we’re doing well lately.”
“That’s good. Honestly, I was worried at first, but now I feel relieved. But are you here alone? Where’s Dayun?”
“Ah, Dayun said she had something to do today. I came alone today.”
“Ah, that’s a shame. It would’ve been nice if she came with you. But it’s still nice to see you. If you’d let me know you were coming, I would’ve made your favorite food.”
“No, it’s fine. Everything you make is delicious.”
His mother smiled brightly at his words. Now that he was married to Dayun, Jaehoon had started saying such affectionate things, which she noticed and appreciated. But seeing her like this made Jaehoon’s heart heavy.
