A Happy Ending with my Fiancée's Arch-enemy - Chapter 6
The news of Lin Yanqing helping Jiang Shuangshuang spread quickly and evolved into various versions. The most widely circulated one was that Lin Yanqing liked the new student, fought fiercely for her, and even smashed a lunch tray on the heads of those girls. The situation was so severe that the ringleader was now in the hospital receiving emergency treatment. Despite this, Lin Yanqing still comforted Jiang Shuangshuang, telling her not to be afraid and that she was there for her.
Upon hearing all this, Yu Ning: “…”
Who on earth was spreading such nonsense?
Yu Ning originally wanted to ask what had happened, but when she messaged Lin Yanqing, she received no reply. During the break, Yu Ning went to find Lin Yanqing, only to be dismissed with a curt “I’m solving problems, don’t bother me.”
What problems? She was just talking to Jiang Shuangshuang earlier!
Yu Ning felt gloomy all afternoon. During the break, Sun Yiyi came to find her and noticed she was lying on the desk, looking unwell.
Sun Yiyi waved at Cheng Leyao, who understood and made room for her.
“Want to go to the restroom?” Sun Yiyi leaned in, tilting her head to whisper in Yu Ning’s ear.
Yu Ning initially wanted to shake her head, but Sun Yiyi had no intention of waiting for her answer.
“I knew you wanted to go. Let’s go.”
Yu Ning: “…”
Yu Ning didn’t want to go, so she waited outside the restroom.
The school restrooms were divided into four sections: undifferentiated and differentiated, with the latter further split into Alpha, Beta, and Omega sections.
Differentiation typically occurred around the age of 17, and once differentiated, one was considered an adult. The majority of students in the school were still undifferentiated, so the undifferentiated restrooms were often crowded, with long queues at the moment. In contrast, the Alpha restroom was relatively sparse.
Just then, two Alphas emerged from the restroom, chatting while washing their hands at the sink.
Yu Ning stood not far behind them and could clearly hear their conversation:
“Did you hear? Lin Yanqing beat up Zhang Xian for a new student and is now waiting for the school to punish her.”
“That’s too harsh. Even if her grades are good, she’ll still get a demerit, right?”
“Definitely. In my opinion, people like her who rely on their talent to act arrogantly deserve to be punished.”
“True. Someone like Lin Yanqing needs to be taught a lesson to know her place.”
“But doesn’tt Lin Yanqing never care about anyone? Why would she help a new student now?”
“You don’t know? I heard the new student in Class One is a stunning Omega. She was captivated by her beauty, understand?”
“Got it. Then she totally deserves it.”
After washing their hands, the two were about to return to the classroom when they heard a “Hey” from beside them. They reflexively turned toward the source and saw Yu Ning.
“Aren’t you ashamed of talking behind someone’s back?”
The two Alphas were momentarily stunned, then exchanged glances, seemingly confused about how Yu Ning had suddenly appeared there and how much she had overheard. However, they weren’t afraid of her. The other Alpha shrugged nonchalantly and replied:
“Isn’t eavesdropping on others’ conversations also shameful? Besides, everyone’s saying it. We were just chatting.”
“It’s not just the two of them the whole school is talking about it, and the rumors have been circulating all afternoon. If the rumors were false, the person involved should have stepped forward to clarify by now. Isn’t staying silent the same as admitting it?”
“You need to get the order of events straight. I was standing here when the two of you suddenly rushed over and started badmouthing my fiancée. And you’re blaming me for being impolite? It’s just that Yanqing doesn’t want to bother with these matters and has warned you to stop spreading such nonsense.”
The confrontation between Yu Ning and the two quickly drew the attention of people nearby.
Both Alphas were from Class Two, which had a long-standing rivalry with Class One. They had never gotten along with anyone from Class One, and as supporters of Su Yi’en, they held a particular grudge against Lin Yanqing. Having finally seized an opportunity to target her, they weren’t about to back down.
With the crowd growing larger, they became even more unwilling to concede. One of them glared fiercely at Yu Ning and snapped, “You know Lin Yanqing is your fiancée, right? Aren’t you angry that she got disciplined for helping another Omega? What a saintly act.”
“Why would I be angry that she helped a new student?” Yu Ning retorted.
The other person pressed on, “Stop pretending. You’re definitely upset inside. Why take it out on us? If you can’t even keep your own fiancée in line, what right do you have to act tough with us?”
As soon as these words were spoken, faint snickers could be heard from the onlookers. Yu Ning knew they were mocking her. Though she didn’t understand why Lin Yanqing, given her personality, would suddenly step in to help Jiang Shuangshuang, she couldn’t let anyone detect her uncertainty. She replied coolly, “That’s exactly why people like you will never measure up to Lin Yanqing. You can’t even grasp the basics of unity and kindness, yet you have the nerve to mock her? Do you even deserve to speak?”
The other person sneered, “Keep up the act. She doesn’t even like you. You two may be engaged in name, but in reality, you’re just clinging to her like a stubborn plaster.”
Initially, their hostility had been directed at Lin Yanqing, but Yu Ning’s words had provoked them. Now, they began lashing out recklessly at Yu Ning, airing all the embarrassing things she had done over the years. Others in the crowd chimed in, echoing the accusations. These incidents were already widely known, but having them thrown in her face so abruptly left Yu Ning momentarily stunned.
Just then, Sun Yiyi emerged from the restroom and overheard the Alpha’s remarks. Without a second thought, she rushed over and shoved the Alpha, shouting angrily, “What did you just say? Are you out of your mind? They’re already engaged, who are you to criticize?”
Yu Ning was taken aback by Sun Yiyi’s sudden intervention, and the Alpha was equally shocked. After a brief pause, the Alpha recovered and let out a scornful laugh. “Well, if it isn’t Sun Yiyi from Class One the one who only stays in the class because her parents begged and pleaded. Birds of a feather really do flock together. So, tell me, don’t you think what I said is true? As her friend, you should know, right?”
Before Sun Yiyi could respond, several delicate voices chimed in from behind: “Exactly. Lin Yanqing clearly doesn’t like her, yet she still clings to him. How shameless.”
Yu Ning recognized these Omegas they had always had a crush on Lin Yanqing. The one leading the conversation had recently presented as an Omega and came to flaunt it in front of Yu Ning the very next day. Since their presentation, they had indeed grown increasingly alluring, while Yu Ning still retained a childlike appearance. Just a few days ago, Yu Ning had argued with them over this very matter. Although the girl leading the group had struck first, Yu Ning was the one caught retaliating by a teacher. Unable to match their acting skills, she ended up being reported, receiving a warning, and was even punished with cleaning the school plaza for several days.
Though the incident had passed, Yu Ning still felt a surge of anger whenever she saw them. Reflecting on it now, she was certain those teachers had been called by them. To provoke a fight, lose, and then call for backup, how despicable.
But Yu Ning had no time to settle scores with them now. Her priority was dealing with the two Alphas in front of her.
However, Sun Yiyi saw things differently. She remembered all too well what these Omegas had done to Yu Ning not long ago.
“If I recall correctly, aren’t you the ones who fancy someone else’s fiancée? Then why didn’t you speak up just now? That alone proves Lin Yanqing would never like you, understand?” Sun Yiyi’s words left them speechless, as they had indeed overheard the two Alphas discussing Lin Yanqing earlier but remained silent.
Moreover, when it came to combat prowess, they feared Sun Yiyi far more than Yu Ning. Yu Ning was a paper tiger, while Sun Yiyi was the real deal.
In the corridor, everyone had gathered around, with Yu Ning, Sun Yiyi, and the two Alphas at the center. The atmosphere was thick with tension.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out: “What’s going on here?”
Yu Ning immediately recognized who it was and turned to explain. But before she could utter a word, the Omegas beside her cut in. The leading girl replied in a delicate, pitiful tone, “Sister Yanqing, Yu Ning is causing trouble for us again. We only said we wanted to be friends with you, but she…”
Her voice trailed off as she cast a resentful glance at Yu Ning. Another Omega beside her tugged at her sleeve and added, “Don’t say anymore. It’s our fault for daring to dream of being friends with Sister Yanqing. After all, Yu Ning is her fiancée.”
Yu Ning pointed at herself, stunned by their lies. How could they fabricate such a story? Were all the witnesses blind? Why was no one refuting them?
Anyone with eyes could see she was confronting the two Alphas, not them.
To her disbelief, no one around her spoke up to challenge their claims. Even Lin Yanqing showed no sign of suspicion, as if she accepted the Omega’s words without question.
Many of the onlookers had arrived late, drawn by the commotion, and had missed the earlier part of the scene.
Perhaps Yu Ning had always been such an overbearing and domineering figure in Lin Yanqing’s impression, which was why she didn’t harbor the slightest doubt about the Omega’s words at that moment.
Lin Yanqing looked at Yu Ning with disappointment. “Can you stop being so unreasonable all the time?”
Yu Ning: “…”
“No, I really just…”
Just what?
The words were on the tip of Yu Ning’s tongue, but she couldn’t bring herself to say them. In reality, she felt that even if she told Lin Yanqing she had acted this way because the Alpha was spreading rumors behind her back, Lin Yanqing simply wouldn’t believe her.
Sun Yiyi, standing nearby, couldn’t stand it any longer. She pulled Yu Ning back and stepped in front of her, confronting Lin Yanqing. “Are you blind? Didn’t you see these two Alphas picking on Ningning? And what do you mean by ‘unreasonable’? Just because these two Omegas are questioning your fiancée? Ask them, what exactly has Ningning done to bully them?”
Before Lin Yanqing could respond, the Omega who had spoken earlier blurted out, “She pushed me and called me shameless. Thankfully, these two Alpha sisters came to my aid.”
Sun Yiyi sneered. “Pushed you? How? Like this?”
She walked up to the Omega and poked her shoulder with a finger, repeating the words she had just said: “Shameless? You don’t have any shame to begin with. That’s just stating the facts. Besides, she never even said that.”
Perhaps this was the advantage of being an Omega a slight bite of the lip, a lowered head, and slightly reddened eyes were enough to evoke pity from those present. Someone immediately spoke up, telling Sun Yiyi not to go too far.
In truth, Sun Yiyi was just acting out of anger. Lin Yanqing might not value Yu Ning, but Yu Ning was her good friend, her treasure.
Just then, a stern female voice echoed from the end of the corridor: “Sun Yiyi, what are you doing?”
At the sound of that voice, Sun Yiyi and Yu Ning both thought, “It’s over.” Why did they always run into their homeroom teacher whenever they had conflicts with these people?
In the end, the matter was resolved with both of them being punished to clean the school plaza for another week.
Lin Yanqing returned to the classroom, feeling somewhat troubled by what had just happened. She wondered if she had been too hasty in her judgment.
Jiang Shuangshuang noticed that Lin Yanqing seemed unsettled after returning to the classroom. She had overheard some students talking about Yu Ning getting into a conflict with someone outside the restroom. Had Lin Yanqing gone out because of Yu Ning?
“Are you okay?”
Lin Yanqing’s thoughts were interrupted. She saw Jiang Shuangshuang looking at her with pursed lips. Over the past two days, Lin Yanqing had come to realize that Jiang Shuangshuang was quite introverted. Perhaps the new environment made her uneasy, and since Lin Yanqing was the only person she was somewhat familiar with, Jiang Shuangshuang often turned to her with questions. Jiang Shuangshuang’s personality was completely different from Yu Ning’s. Yu Ning could thrive anywhere, just like during the various activities they had attended together Yu Ning always managed to blend in with the people there. In fact, sometimes, because of Lin Yanqing’s colder demeanor, she even relied on Yu Ning to handle certain social interactions.
But what Lin Yanqing couldn’t understand was how Yu Ning, who was so adept at managing relationships outside of school, struggled so much to get along with others within the school.
Jiang Shuangshuang could tell that Lin Yanqing was deep in thought and didn’t press for an answer. Instead, she rummaged through her desk, then held out a closed fist in front of Lin Yanqing.
Lin Yanqing had no idea what she was up to and let out a puzzled “Hmm?”
Jiang Shuangshuang’s eyes curved into crescents as she opened her palm, revealing a milk candy resting in its center. “Once, an older sister told me that when you’re feeling down, you should eat candy. Sweet things can make you feel better.”
Lin Yanqing inexplicably found the words somewhat familiar and instinctively accepted the candy from her hand.
Jiang Shuangshuang was delighted that she took the candy, her eyes crinkling into happy slits. Only then did Lin Yanqing notice Jiang Shuangshuang’s expression, and infected by her smile, her mood instantly lifted. She thanked her in return.
“Well… thank you for helping me yesterday. Since you’re the only friend I have, you were the first person I thought of when this happened. Maybe it caused some misunderstanding with Sister Yu Ning. I’ll go explain it to her after class I definitely won’t let this affect your relationship.”
Jiang Shuangshuang’s gaze seemed utterly sincere, yet Lin Yanqing merely replied in a calm tone, “No need.”
Rumors cease with the wise; there was no need for her to waste time on such gossip. As for Yu Ning, she had no obligation to explain herself.
