A Happy Ending with my Fiancée's Arch-enemy - Chapter 25
“I heard Yu Ning has differentiated into an Alpha.”
“Really? Then can she still marry Lin Yanqing?”
“Haven’t you heard yet? Yu Ning got dumped by Lin Yanqing! The engagement was called off.”
“Oh my god, that’s so tragic. I wonder what she’ll have to be arrogant about now.”
Under a large tree on the school playground, three Omegas were sitting together discussing the rumors they’d picked up.
Nearby, Su Yien, who had been napping under the same tree, rubbed her ears in annoyance at their chattering. She squinted, yawned, and stood up, then waved over a few Alphas standing close by.
“It’s true! My friend was there and heard it with her own ears!”
“Oh my god, Yu Ning totally deserves this.”
The three Omegas had long held a grudge against Yu Ning, and now, regardless of the rumor’s validity, they eagerly seized the chance to criticize her.
Besides, sometimes if a story spreads widely enough and enough people believe it, it might as well be true.
They were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn’t notice Su Yien approaching from behind.
“Hello there, what are you all chatting about? Mind if I join?” Su Yien gave them a friendly smile.
“W-we were just talking about Yu Ning. she got dumped by Lin Yanqing.”
Ji Yin had always liked Lin Yanqing mostly because she was shallow and drawn to good looks. Both Lin Yanqing and Su Yien were considered the most desirable Alphas in the school. Ji Yin had even fantasized about Su Yien before, but after witnessing an Omega confess to her only to end up in tears, she never dared to openly admit her crush. She never expected Su Yien to suddenly speak to her.
The other two Omegas nodded eagerly like chicks pecking at rice. To them, Su Yien was also an unattainable figure, and they were surprised she was talking to them.
“Ah, but the version I heard is different,” Su Yien sighed. “I heard that Lin Yanqing was the one who got dumped by Yu Ning?”
“No way,” all three Omegas refused to believe it.
Just then, Su Yien’s friend Cheng Li chimed in, “Haven’t you heard? It’s because Lin Yanqing was messing around with AO relationships that Yu Ning called off the engagement.”
“That can’t be right,” Ji Yin still didn’t believe it.
“Think about it their engagement lasted all these years without being broken off. Why now? It must mean something happened that the other couldn’t tolerate,” another friend, Gu Lan, added fuel to the fire.
“You know, Yu Ning wasn’t even willing to make Alpha friends before,” Cheng Li backed up Gu Lan.
With the two of them going back and forth, the three Omegas were soon caught in a whirl of doubt.
“Why bother overthinking it? Why not just go ask the person involved?” Su Yien said lazily.
Compared to Lin Yanqing, Ji Yin was more interested in the gossip.
The reason they were sitting there discussing it was that Lin Yanqing was reading under a tree not far in front of them.
It wasn’t just them many other Omegas nearby were there for the same reason.
The other two Omegas nudged Ji Yin: “You’re our leader, you go ask.”
Ji Yin stumbled from the push, feeling frustrated. Now they remembered she was the leader.
She gathered her thoughts, hesitating internally. Su Yien wouldn’t lie to me, would she?
“Well, Lin Yanqing.” This was Ji Yin’s first time speaking to Lin Yanqing.
Lin Yanqing looked up at her, her expression as cold and indifferent as usual, devoid of any emotion.
“Someone said you were dumped by Yu Ning because of your messy Alpha-Omega relationships? Is that true?”
Ji Yin swallowed nervously. Lin Yanqing’s icy gaze fell upon her, and Ji Yin realized that Lin Yanqing wasn’t as indifferent to everything as the rumors suggested. When she heard Ji Yin’s words, Lin Yanqing’s emotions clearly stirred.
There were already many Omegas on the playground paying attention to Lin Yanqing, and Ji Yin’s question reached the ears of quite a few.
A long time passed, and Ji Yin still hadn’t heard Lin Yanqing’s response.
Lin Yanqing picked up the book from the ground, closed it, stood up, and walked past Ji Yin.
As she passed Su Yi’en, Lin Yanqing paused briefly and glanced at her. “Do you think she would really forget me?”
Su Yi’en’s smile carried a hint of mockery, as if she didn’t understand where Lin Yanqing’s confidence came from.
After Lin Yanqing left, the two Omegas from earlier immediately approached Ji Yin. “Oh my god, she didn’t deny it? What does that mean?”
“Hmph,” Ji Yin sneered and shouted toward the side, “Taking in those who’ve turned against their idols after leaving the fandom.”
After being discharged from the hospital, Yu Ning stayed at home for a few days before returning to school for classes.
But she never expected that, as soon as she arrived at school, everyone around her was looking at her with pity in their eyes.
Yu Ning: “?”
Even when she returned to the classroom, her classmates continued to look at her with the same expression.
“Ningning, you’re finally here.” As soon as Sun Yiyi saw her, she immediately linked arms with her.
“Yiyi, why is everyone looking at me like that?” Yu Ning whispered.
Sun Yiyi glanced around the classroom; everyone had lowered their heads. She pulled Yu Ning out of the classroom.
The hallway was sparsely populated, with only two or three people carrying backpacks rushing into their classrooms.
“Yesterday on the playground, an Omega asked Lin Yanqing if it was because you caught her messing around with Alpha-Omega relationships that you broke off the engagement. Lin Yanqing didn’t deny it.”
By the time the story reached Sun Yiyi, it had already taken on this form.
Yu Ning let out an “oh.” Lin Yanqing’s temperament had saved her a lot of trouble she didn’t like explaining herself to others and never refuted what others said.
Even though the rumors were true.
So these people were sympathizing with her. Although she didn’t need their sympathy, it wasn’t harmful to her either.
“Hello, I’m Yu Jiaojiao from the class next door. Could you accept this?”
Suddenly, a voice reached Yu Ning’s ears. She turned her head and saw Yu Jiaojiao, who was looking at her with a slightly flushed face.
Yu Ning: “?”
Sun Yiyi instinctively took the gift for her and heard Yu Jiaojiao add, “Could you accept my friend request?”
Yu Ning was confused. Wasn’t this an Omega from the neighboring class? Why was she adding her? Out of sympathy?
Even after Yu Jiaojiao left, Yu Ning still hadn’t processed what had happened.
“Are you dumb? You’ve differentiated into an Alpha, haven’t you? She likes you.”
Yu Ning was stunned and hurriedly explained, “No, I just.”
“Not bad, Yu Ning.” Su Yi’en’s voice interrupted Yu Ning’s explanation.
Su Yi’en had just seen the scene of the Omega giving her chocolate while she was still in the stairwell.
Hearing Su Yien’s voice, Yu Ning instinctively hid the chocolate behind her back. But from Su Yien’s perspective, did it seem like Yu Ning was afraid she would snatch it?
Su Yien didn’t say anything. Instead, she looked up at the sky behind Yu Ning and murmured curiously, “Is that a shooting star?”
Both Yu Ning and Sun Yiyi were drawn in by her words and turned to look in the direction Su Yien had been staring.
Yu Ning felt her hand suddenly empty the chocolate that had been in her grasp was now in Su Yien’s hand. Su Yien weighed it lightly and examined it closely.
“This will be my breakfast. No need to thank me,” Su Yien chuckled, waving the chocolate in her hand.
“No, that was given by someone else ”
“Given by someone else, huh? Then, as an exchange, I’ll give you the snacks someone else gave me for your breakfast?”
Yu Ning: “?”
Does she really want chocolate that badly?
“Don’t you think Su Yien seems a little.” Yu Ning wanted to say “a little crazy,” but then she heard Sun Yiyi’s words.
“A little into you, right?” Sun Yiyi wore an expression that said, “I knew it.” Yu Ning couldn’t help but give her a light smack and said, “She already likes someone else. Don’t talk nonsense.”
Sun Yiyi rubbed her head and pouted. “But the way she acts, it really seems like she likes you.”
Yu Ning didn’t see it that way. As far as she was concerned, the two of them were just allies.
“You like someone else, yet you still take her chocolate?”
Yu Ning muttered under her breath and then headed back to the classroom.
Sun Yiyi frowned and murmured to herself, “Wasn’t that chocolate from a rival?”
Not long after the two returned to the classroom, a student from Class 2 entered their room carrying a large bag of snacks.
Yu Ning had seen her before she often hung around Su Yien.
Cheng Li scanned the classroom, then walked over to Yu Ning and placed all the snacks on her desk. “Su Yien sent these for your breakfast.”
Remembering what Su Yien had said earlier, were all these snacks given to her by someone else?
Was this some kind of show-off?
Cheng Li left the classroom as soon as she set the snacks down, not giving Yu Ning a chance to refuse.
In the past, Su Yien would come to find her too, but she would usually call her outside the door and occasionally give her small snacks or toys.
Cheng Li’s words were clearly heard by almost everyone in the classroom, and instantly, discussions about Su Yien and Yu Ning started up again.
“Hand in your homework,” Lin Yanqing’s voice cut through the chatter, silencing the gossiping students.
In an instant, the classroom’s buzzing conversations were replaced by the sound of students rummaging for their homework.
Lin Yanqing walked over to Yu Ning, who had already taken out her homework and placed it in the upper left corner of her desk.
Thankfully, Sun Yiyi had reminded her about the homework yesterday otherwise, she would have had to speak with Lin Yanqing today.
Lin Yanqing hadn’t expected Yu Ning to have done the homework, especially since she hadn’t been attending classes lately.
When Lin Yanqing reached Yu Ning’s seat, many students watched the two closely, anticipating some drama. Just as they thought nothing would happen, they heard Lin Yanqing say, “It’s not good to eat this for breakfast in the morning.”
What’s wrong with her? What business is it of hers?
Yu Ning didn’t want to talk to her. Without even looking up, she took a piece of bread from the snacks Su Yien had given her, tore it open, and took a bite.
Seeing that Yu Ning wasn’t listening to her, Lin Yanqing didn’t get angry and continued collecting homework in order.
When she reached Jiang Shuangshuang’s seat, Jiang Shuangshuang looked up at her, but Lin Yanqing didn’t say anything to her, treating her no differently from the other students.
Jiang Shuangshuang glanced at Yu Ning, who was about to drink her milk but had spilled it on the table because the straw wasn’t properly inserted, then clumsily grabbed a tissue to wipe it up.
The softness in her eyes gradually turned cold.
Why?
She couldn’t accept it.
Yu Ning hadn’t expected Lin Yanqing to be so petty, making her move equipment before gym class.
Fine, she’d move it wasn’t that heavy anyway.
But Yu Ning hadn’t realized that since her differentiation, her body had become even more delicate. After moving just a few barbells, she couldn’t handle anything else.
“This is so infuriating.” Yu Ning kicked a piece of equipment, only to hit a metal plate and burst into tears from the pain.
“Tsk, tsk ”
Yu Ning heard a mocking laugh and turned to see Su Yien.
It was quite a coincidence she seemed to run into her everywhere.
“Didn’t you differentiate into an Alpha? Why are you so fragile?” Su Yien was accompanied by a few classmates from Class Two, all there to help move equipment.
Hearing Su Yien’s words, Yu Ning instantly understood Lin Yanqing’s intention was this a test?
To avoid the risk of the Lin family turning the tables, her mother had told her to pretend to be an Alpha for a month. After that, she could revert to her Omega identity. Sun Yiyi had also mentioned that the whole school now believed she was an Alpha. There were many rumors about her broken engagement with Lin Yanqing some said it was because Lin Yanqing was messing around with Alpha-Omega relationships, while others believed it was because Yu Ning had differentiated into an Alpha.
Fine, Alpha it was at least it offered better protection.
Yu Ning snorted coldly, not wanting to engage with her.
Su Yien snatched the equipment from her hands, only to be met with Yu Ning’s outburst: “Why are you taking my equipment?! There’s more over there!”
Su Yien was momentarily stunned, then burst into laughter at the sight of Yu Ning’s flushed, pouting face.
Yu Ning was puzzled was her face that funny? Why did Su Yien always seem to laugh when she saw her?
“I’m helping you,” Su Yien explained, seeing her serious expression and reining in her laughter.
Yu Ning’s face turned even redder as she refused: “No need, I can do it.”
Ignoring her refusal, Su Yien took the equipment from her hands and said to the classmates behind her, “Let’s show some care for our neighboring classmate help each other out.”
Lin Yanqing had sent Yu Ning to move equipment alone, hoping she’d come back and talk to her. But Yu Ning hadn’t hesitated at all and left on her own.
With three minutes left before gym class started, Lin Yanqing pursed her lips, wondering why Yu Ning hadn’t returned to ask for help. That’s when she saw Yu Ning walking behind Su Yien, carrying only a few mats.
Her eyes instantly turned cold.
Su Yien again.
“Yanqing,” Jiang Shuangshuang approached her and hesitated for a long moment before asking, “Can we go to the bookstore together after school?”
Lin Yanqing hadn’t yet regained her composure, and her gaze toward Jiang Shuangshuang remained icy.
“I’ve repaid the favor I owed you. Don’t bother me again.”
Hearing these words, Jiang Shuangshuang’s face instantly paled, and her body swayed unsteadily.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be Lin Yanqing had promised to take responsibility for her.
Watching Yu Ning, who was playfully bickering with Su Yien as they drew closer, Jiang Shuangshuang wondered:
Was it because of Yu Ning? Had she changed?
