A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 63
In the kitchen, Gu Yuxi stood to one side, watching Luo Panzhi cook curry with a stony expression. The atmosphere was incredibly subtle. Yuxi’s eyes flickered; he wondered if he had messed up by buying the dog without warning.
Panzhi wasn’t exactly ignoring him, but he was being noticeably cold.
“Panpan, let me help you wash the vegetables.” Yuxi stepped toward the sink, but the moment his hand neared the water, Panzhi grabbed his wrist.
“Didn’t I tell you not to touch cold water?” Panzhi caught the hand instantly, frowning as he pressed it against his own clothes to dry it. He released him and said sternly, “Stand to the side.”
Then he turned back to the pot of beef and potato curry.
Yuxi: “…” Panzhi was actually being a bit fierce, but Yuxi had no defense. After all, the little Corgi had clearly traumatized Panzhi’s “fragile” heart. “Are you thirsty? Can I get you a drink?”
“Why don’t you go outside and spend time with your ‘Little Pan’?” Panzhi covered the pot and walked to the sink to wash the greens.
He scrubbed the vegetables with unnecessary force, as if he had a personal vendetta against the lettuce. However, noticing Yuxi approaching out of the corner of his eye, he softened his movements so as not to splash him.
Hearing the displeasure in Panzhi’s tone, Yuxi leaned in close, tilting his head to catch his eye. “But I want to be with you.”
Panzhi’s hands faltered for a second. Is he acting spoiled? He quickly hardened his heart. No! The emotional damage from that dog is too severe. I cannot cave so easily. He was terrified of dogs! In this house, it was either him or the dog!
Yuxi poked Panzhi in the waist. “Are you angry?”
Panzhi snorted inwardly. Asking the obvious.
His eyes inadvertently caught the sight of Yuxi’s loose bathrobe slipping off his shoulder, revealing a flash of pale skin that dazed him. Crunch. He accidentally snapped the vegetable in his hand. What, does he think he can seduce me into keeping the dog? Im-pos-sible!
“I didn’t know you were that afraid of dogs,” Yuxi sighed. He hugged Panzhi from behind, resting his head on his shoulder. “Baby, I’m sorry I scared you.”
Panzhi: “?!”
Wait, did I hear that right? My wife is showing weakness?! This was a miracle. Panzhi fought to keep the corners of his mouth from twitching upward.
“I didn’t plan on buying it, but it was so cute, and I thought maybe you’d like it too.” Yuxi moved his hands to Panzhi’s chest, patting him gently to soothe him. “Little Princess, don’t ignore me.”
“Little Princess?!”
Panzhi threw the vegetables back into the sink in a fit of indignation. “Gu Yuxi, who are you calling a ‘Little Princess’? You’re making it sound like I’m the unreasonable one! Didn’t you scare me half to death with that dog?! I haven’t even settled the score with you, and you call me a princess? I’m telling you, I won’t be coaxed! If the dog stays, I’m leaving!”
He yanked off his apron, crumpled it into a ball, and marched out of the kitchen. Halfway out, he remembered the stove was still on, so he stomped back, clicked it off, and marched out again.
But the moment he stepped into the hallway, he came face-to-face with the little Corgi. He practically levitated.
“WHOA!! STAY BACK!! I’m serious!!” Panzhi pressed himself against the wall like he was facing a mortal enemy, glaring at the wagging tail. “GU YUXI!! TAKE IT AWAY!!”
Yuxi hurried over and scooped up the puppy. Seeing that Panzhi was genuinely terrified, he stroked the Corgi’s head and made a decision. “I’ll give him away then.”
He turned toward the entryway as if to put on his shoes.
“Where are you going?” Panzhi called out. He realized he might have overreacted, and seeing Yuxi about to leave, his heart skipped a beat. Wait, is he running away with the dog?! That price was too high!
“I’m taking him to Qi Lin’s house,” Yuxi said, reaching for his keys. “If I want to see him, I’ll go there.”
Panzhi froze. “No! You can’t take him to Qi Lin’s. You’re pregnant; you shouldn’t be going over there all the time!” He was still incredibly jealous of the “rumored boyfriend,” even if he was Yuxi’s best friend.
“Since you’re afraid, I won’t keep him at home. I’ll let Qi Lin raise him.” Yuxi reached for the door handle, but Panzhi’s hand slammed against the door from behind, blocking him.
“Do you really like this dog? Do you really want to keep him?” Panzhi asked.
“Woof!”
Panzhi flinched at the bark. The childhood trauma was deep, but looking at Yuxi, he didn’t want to lose face any further. He forced himself to endure the fear. “…If you want to keep him, then keep him.”
Yuxi noticed him trembling. “I’m not angry. If you’re afraid, we can’t have him here. I’ll just visit him at Qi Lin’s.”
“Keep him in the apartment across the hall,” Panzhi suggested, remembering he had bought the unit opposite theirs and it was currently empty.
“Across the hall?”
“It’s a huge apartment; it’s more than enough room for a dog to play,” Panzhi muttered. Realizing Yuxi was willing to give up the dog for him made him feel a surge of affection. He hugged Yuxi tight. “Anyway, it’s me or the dog. If you like dogs so much, I can wear some dog ears to satisfy you.”
“I understand, Little Princess,” Yuxi laughed, rubbing Panzhi’s hair. “A grown man afraid of dogs… you really are full of surprises.”
Suddenly, Panzhi grabbed Yuxi by the waist and lifted him onto the shoe cabinet.
“I don’t care,” Panzhi said, stepping between Yuxi’s legs and looking up with a pout. “That dog scared me. You have to take responsibility for cheering me up.”
“I didn’t know you were afraid. You never told me.”
“How could I tell you that ‘Young Master Luo’ is afraid of dogs? Where would my dignity go?”
Yuxi pinched Panzhi’s ears, wrapping his legs around Panzhi’s waist to pull him closer. “Do you have any dignity left in front of me? What haven’t you done? What other Alpha cries as much as you do, or gets jealous of a two-month-old puppy?”
Panzhi braced his hands on the cabinet to ensure he didn’t press against Yuxi’s stomach. “Can we really move the dog across the hall?”
“Yes. I don’t want you to be unhappy. I like the dog, but I love you more.”
Panzhi was thoroughly mollified. He glanced at the little creature in the living room and snorted. Trying to steal my Top 1 spot? You’re missing a tongue that can talk.
“Fine. Put him across the hall. If he’s here, I’m afraid I’ll run into him.”
After a meal and a bath (and a “cheering up” session in the bathroom that left Yuxi’s hands quite tired), the two were relaxing in the living room. Little Pan was napping peacefully in his bed.
“It seems the Chairman of Ruixing Hospital is also involved,” Yuxi said, leaning against Panzhi’s lap while reading Mo Wenbin’s files. “Helping him forge a death certificate and harboring a fugitive… he’s definitely going to prison.”
“Mhm,” Panzhi replied, massaging Yuxi’s temples while scrolling through research data on his tablet. “Mo Wenbin has been formally arrested. If the evidence is solid, how soon will the sentencing be?”
“Three months for both trials if there are no other crimes.” Yuxi set the files down and looked up. “I suddenly want to eat something.”
“What is it?”
“Airplane food.”
Panzhi: “?!!” He looked down in disbelief. “Why?”
“I don’t know.” Yuxi sat up. “I really want the cold beef salad from Vietnam Airlines.”
Panzhi was bewildered. Why airplane food? Why that specific airline? “Now?”
“Yes,” Yuxi nodded. “I really want it. Can you?”
Panzhi laughed, filled with doting helplessness. He called his assistant, Xu Wen.
Xu Wen, who was enjoying a movie at home, jumped when he saw the boss’s name. “Young Master Luo, any orders?”
“Get me a cold beef salad from a Vietnam Airlines International First Class flight. Right now.”
Xu Wen: “?????????” Did I hear that right? Airplane food in the middle of the night?! “S-sir, right now?”
“Yes. Deliver it to Lawyer Gu’s house. I’ll triple your performance bonus this month.”
Xu Wen leaped off his sofa. “No problem, Sir! I’ll contact Vietnam Airlines immediately!”
Luo Panzhi hung up and raised an eyebrow at Yuxi. “Satisfied?”
“Yes,” Yuxi smiled.
Panzhi pulled him into his arms. “I’m following your every whim… can I make a request too?” He buried his face in Yuxi’s neck.
“What do you want? I already helped you earlier; my hands are tired.”
“I want you to give me an Omega,” Panzhi whispered. “A very well-behaved, cute one that I can dress up like a little princess.”
“I can’t decide that. What if it’s not?”
“I don’t care, I want an Omega,” Panzhi said, rocking Yuxi back and forth. “An Omega baby would be so cute, like a little doll. I’ll turn the nursery into a princess room with dresses and dolls…”
Yuxi listened to him ramble until he yawned, his eyelids growing heavy. He hummed in response until he finally drifted off.
Panzhi felt the weight on his arm and looked down to see Yuxi asleep. Without his glasses and dressed in loungewear, he looked incredibly soft—not like a thirty-year-old elite lawyer, but like a beautiful, precious soul.
Panzhi kissed the fading scar on Yuxi’s forehead and chuckled softly at the thought of the midnight airplane food request.
“I’ve really spoiled you.”
