A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 61
The sound of a reporter’s live coverage drifted from the television. Luo Panzhi noticed Gu Yuxi watching the news; seeing his partner’s grim expression, he could guess what was on his mind.
He picked up the remote, clicked off the TV, and sat up to lean against Yuxi, pulling him close. “I promise, I didn’t do anything reckless. I just… dropped Mo Wenbin off at the police station.”
Panzhi’s eyes lingered on the gauze on Yuxi’s forehead, his heart aching with regret. He felt he had been too soft on that scum; a man like that didn’t deserve a shred of humanitarian treatment.
Yuxi glanced sideways at him, noting his certain tone. “You didn’t even know what he looked like. How did you know it was him?”
Panzhi tightened his arm around Yuxi’s shoulder, the lingering fear from the car accident still fresh. Thinking of Mo Wenbin’s unrepentant face, he let out a cold laugh. “I remembered your description, and every detail matched. Besides, he confessed on the spot. He had the nerve to call you an ‘ungrateful wolf’—who does he think he is?”
Yuxi smiled faintly, realizing his suspicions were correct. “When I was in the orphanage, Mo Wenbin visited often. He did donate books and clothes and taught us health classes. He likely thought he was a saint, believing he could subtly condition every child through psychological suggestion.” He paused, recalling the event. “The day it happened, he asked me to follow him after class, saying he had a book to give me.”
Panzhi’s brow furrowed deeply.
“He probably thought I wouldn’t dare resist. He used the promise of taking me away from the orphanage as bait. When he realized I wasn’t so easily fooled and that his suggestions hadn’t worked, it wounded his pride as an Alpha. He certainly didn’t expect me to differentiate into an Alpha under those circumstances and break his arm.”
“Perhaps he believes that if he shows ‘kindness,’ it must be accepted—and that resisting him is an act of ingratitude.”
Panzhi couldn’t bear to hear any more. He pulled Yuxi into a tight embrace, his eyes reddening with a suppressed rage. He regretted not tearing that man apart earlier. “Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
“I truly wanted to kill him back then,” Yuxi whispered, his fingers tracing the ring on Panzhi’s ring finger. “If I hadn’t been stopped, I think I would have. I may be an orphan, but I am not without dignity.”
As the words left his mouth, Panzhi leaned in close, his eyes brimming with tears.
“Are you crying?” Yuxi asked, surprised.
Seeing Panzhi looking as if he were about to burst into tears, Yuxi couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m not crying, but you are.”
“Don’t say another word…” Panzhi stifled a sob, burying his face in Yuxi’s shoulder. His voice was muffled. “I won’t let him off. I wanted to kill him for even touching you.”
Yuxi tilted his head, resting it against Panzhi’s. His eyes were full of tenderness. “Baby, so it was you who caught him for me, right?”
Hearing Yuxi’s gentle tone, Panzhi’s heart melted completely, though he didn’t dare take all the credit. “It wasn’t just me. Jian Wenxing helped too.”
“Then what about the blood here?” Yuxi reached out and tugged at the corner of the suit jacket where the stains were.
Panzhi hesitated. “That… that’s from Jian Wenxing. He got some blood on me when his hand was injured.” (Sorry, brother, you’re taking the fall for this one.)
“I see. I’m very grateful to him. Do you know what he likes?” Yuxi asked, suspecting nothing.
Panzhi suddenly sat bolt upright, looking at Yuxi with a wounded, resentful expression. “What about me? Why aren’t you asking about me? Don’t I get a reward?!”
Before he could finish, a soft kiss landed on his lips.
Panzhi froze. He looked at the curve of Yuxi’s lips—a beautiful, genuine smile. It was different from his usual expressions; it looked as though a heavy burden had finally been lifted. Now that Mo Wenbin was caught, Yuxi no longer had to live in fear.
“Isn’t giving myself to you enough? Isn’t it a ‘buy one, get one free’ deal? Young Master Luo, you’re being too greedy.”
Panzhi braced his hands on either side of Yuxi, leaning in to gaze deeply into his eyes. “Baby, smile again.”
He wanted Yuxi to keep smiling like that forever.
The atmosphere in the room began to warm as their eyes met. Yuxi smiled again.
Panzhi surrendered immediately. He kissed the gauze on Yuxi’s forehead and whispered, “The only thing I’m greedy for in this life is you. If I had to, I’d use every bit of power I have just to keep you. From today on, I’m not leaving your side. If you get hurt again, I’ll never forgive myself.”
He then leaned down to look at Yuxi’s stomach, his voice turning stern. “And you, be on your best behavior. If I find out you’re giving your father a hard time, I’ll… I’ll disown you!”
Bright sunlight flooded the ward, illuminating every corner. On the TV, the reporter continued: “One man’s crime causes the whole world to tremble. But the net of justice has large meshes, yet it lets nothing through. We hope the police bring the suspect to justice swiftly…”
As Panzhi continued his “educational” monologue to the unborn baby, Yuxi watched him thoughtfully. This was exactly why he had studied law: because he believed in absolute justice. To him, law was an objective truth; only by believing in it could one drive the world toward a better future.
Some people think the law cannot achieve absolute justice, but that doesn’t mean absolute justice doesn’t exist. It simply depends on which lawyer holds the scales.
“Panpan, can I be discharged?” Yuxi interrupted the “parenting” session, patting Panzhi on the head.
Panzhi looked up gloomily. “What do you think?”
Yuxi looked around the familiar ward with a hint of repulsion. “I feel fine. In the last six months, I’ve been in the hospital more than I have for all my annual checkups combined. I really don’t want to stay here.”
Panzhi’s expression turned serious. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave?”
“You know why,” Yuxi replied.
Before he could say more, Panzhi nipped his lower lip in a mock punishment before deepening the kiss. Under the soothing influence of his partner’s Alpha pheromones, Yuxi felt a subtle, strange reaction in his womb—a first for him. It stirred a sudden, uncharacteristic urge to be obedient.
When the kiss ended, Panzhi stared at the slightly dazed Yuxi. “Gu Yuxi, you are pregnant. If you keep being a workaholic, I’ll take you off this case entirely and transfer you to be my personal secretary. You’ll spend your days in my office eating, drinking, and resting. You won’t be allowed to do a single thing.”
Yuxi’s eyes were still misty from the kiss. “…No. I have to handle this case.”
“Then listen to me. Do exactly what the doctor says. Understood?”
Yuxi felt a bit wronged by Panzhi’s bossy tone and the threat of a transfer. He rolled over in bed, pulling the covers up and turning his back to Panzhi. “If you transfer me, I’m resigning.”
Panzhi sighed, rubbing his forehead. He had forgotten that Yuxi never responded well to “the hard approach.” If he pushed, the man would only push back harder. “You know I didn’t mean it like that, I just—”
“Say another word and we’re getting a divorce.”
Panzhi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “…” Fine. I’m wrong. I’ll shut up.
Who would have thought that the hot-tempered Young Master Luo of the Galaxy Group would be so thoroughly defeated by Lawyer Gu? His temper had been smoothed away until there was no “Overbearing CEO” image left—only a man hopelessly in love with his wife.
Two days later, following the doctor’s advice and under Panzhi’s meticulous care, Yuxi was finally allowed to leave. Panzhi had an emergency meeting, but since Qi Lin was coming to pick him up, Yuxi insisted he didn’t need a formal escort. He was an Alpha, after all; he wasn’t that fragile.
When Qi Lin entered the ward, he was greeted by the sight of the legendary “Short-fused” President Luo kneeling in front of Yuxi, gently tying his shoes while muttering instructions.
“Remember, you can’t go back to the office until tomorrow.” “Call me the second you get home.” “No washing with cold water. No drinking cold water. I’ve locked the wine cabinet—I’ll give it back after the baby is born.” “I’ve organized the files you wanted in the study. Don’t look at them for too long. I’ll be home for dinner.”
Yuxi saw his friend and felt a blush creep up his neck. He tried to pull his foot back. “Qi Lin is here.”
Panzhi gripped Yuxi’s ankle firmly and finished putting on the sock. “Let him be here. I don’t care if people know I enjoy serving you. This is how I show my love.”
Finally, he stood up and nodded to Qi Lin. “Lawyer Qi, long time no see.”
Qi Lin felt a bit awkward. After all, the first time they met, he had pretended to be Yuxi’s boyfriend. He smiled. “Long time no see indeed.”
“I have an emergency meeting. Lawyer Qi, please see Yuxi home safely,” Panzhi said. Then, as if remembering something crucial, he added: “Buy a dog. Jian Wenxing is terrified of dogs. Terrified.”
With a wave to Yuxi, he hurried out.
Qi Lin stood there for a moment, deep in thought. That giant guy is afraid of dogs? Maybe I’ll buy a tiny Pomeranian and scare him to death.
“Old Qi, they caught Mo Wenbin,” Yuxi said.
Qi Lin snapped back to reality. “I know. I’ve already contacted the police. With all the evidence, he’s looking at the death penalty for his combined crimes.”
The two left the hospital together. “I’m counting on you for my case,” Yuxi told him.
Qi Lin glanced at Yuxi’s stomach and nudged his arm. “Don’t mention it. When the kid is born, I’m the godfather.”
“Did Jian Wenxing tell you I was pregnant?” Yuxi asked, smiling.
“Yeah. He dragged me out for drinks the other night.”
Yuxi noticed a shift in his friend’s tone. “What’s going on between you two?” He remembered Wenxing asking what Qi Lin liked.
Qi Lin stopped by his car and leaned against the door. “I’ve never met a more shameless Alpha. I thought he was only pestering me because he thought we were a couple, but you two are together now and he still won’t leave me alone. Then he asks me out for drinks, and you know what I see? An Omega kissing him!”
“If he likes Omegas, why is he bothering me? I don’t get it.”
“And I don’t get why I can’t shake this brat off. The night you had the accident, he called me crying, saying he was miserable and needed a drink. Do you know what he said?”
“What?” Yuxi asked, sliding into the passenger seat.
Qi Lin buckled his seatbelt and pulled out of the parking lot. “He said he never wants to like an Omega again because ‘pregnancy is too scary.’ He said he’s going to pursue me instead… because I’m an Alpha.”
Yuxi burst out laughing. “That’s my fault.”
Qi Lin glared at him. “Don’t think I don’t know you’re enjoying this. Do you know how annoying a playboy like him is? He’s surrounded by Omegas and loves to party.”
“Maybe he’ll change his ways for you?” Yuxi mused. Knowing the Luo family genes, Wenxing had to have some loyalty in him.
“Hah! I don’t believe a word he says.” Qi Lin turned a corner. “By the way, he told me something else that night. I bet Panzhi didn’t tell you.”
Yuxi’s heart skipped a beat. “What?”
“Wenxing said that after they caught Mo Wenbin and took him to an abandoned warehouse, Luo Panzhi used Mo Wenbin’s head for ‘golf practice.’ He split the guy’s head open. There was blood everywhere.”
Yuxi’s face darkened. Luo Panzhi lied to me? He said the blood was from Wenxing’s hand! The thought of Panzhi playing “golf” on someone’s forehead made his temper flare up.
“I know it’s wrong, but why does it feel so satisfying?” Qi Lin sighed. “Anyway, Old Gu, come with me to the pet shop. I’m buying a dog.”
“Why?” Yuxi asked. He suddenly thought of Panzhi “acting like a dog” earlier and figured having a pet during his maternity leave wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Qi Lin smirked. “To terrorize someone.”
Bonus High-Sweet Scene (Four Months Later):
In the study, Luo Panzhi was flipping through documents when he saw Yuxi walking toward him wearing one of his oversized shirts. The slight bulge of his stomach was visible beneath the fabric.
“Still busy?” Yuxi asked, setting a coffee on the desk.
“Mhm.” Panzhi pulled him into his lap. “Why aren’t you resting? Is the baby acting up?”
Who would have thought the cold, aloof Lawyer Gu was pregnant with the CEO’s child?
“He’s being very rowdy,” Yuxi complained, resting his head on Panzhi’s shoulder. “Tell him to behave.”
Panzhi smiled dotingly. “And how should I teach him to behave?”
“Go in and teach him a lesson.”
Hearing Yuxi acting so spoiled, Panzhi’s smile deepened. “Alright. I’ll go in and teach him a lesson so he treats his father better.”
