A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 49
“Young CEO Luo, are you going to look for Lawyer Gu?” Xu Wen saw his CEO’s gloomy face. “I think I saw Lawyer Gu leave a moment ago.”
Luo Panzhi stopped short. He turned and looked at Xu Wen: “When?”
They had just eaten lunch together. How could he have left the corporation right after the lunch break?
“I don’t know,” Xu Wen guessed: “Perhaps he went to collect the CT scan report?”
Luo Panzhi narrowed his eyes. What was wrong with this man? Why couldn’t he tell him about going for a CT scan for his sore waist? “I’ll be out for a while.” He said this as he took out his phone and walked out.
At the hospital—
“The reason for your waist pain is not a strain, but rather the enlargement of your anal cavity, leading to increased abdominal distension. Have you felt any tightening or swelling pain in the anal cavity recently?” The doctor looked at the HCG blood test report in his hand, his expression serious.
“Yes,” Gu Yuxi answered truthfully. He had indeed been feeling waist pain recently. It wasn’t constant, but it was much worse after standing for a long time. So, it was due to the enlargement of his anal cavity: “So why didn’t you let me do the CT scan?”
“Because you are pregnant.”
Gu Yuxi was utterly shocked. His mind went blank as he listened to the doctor: “…What?”
The doctor’s expression was grave: “The director of the Spine Surgery department called me yesterday after examining you and asked you to come over. He didn’t let you do the CT scan because he initially suspected the waist pain might be pregnancy-related. To be certain, I asked you to do a blood test and an ultrasound to check your human chorionic gonadotropin level. The results show your HCG level has reached 1000 U/L. This means you are pregnant.”
He handed the test report to Gu Yuxi.
“I’m an Alpha.” Gu Yuxi took the report and looked down at his blood values, comparing them with the reference values at the bottom. His eyes flickered, as if he hadn’t yet accepted the result: “…How could I possibly be pregnant?”
How was this possible?
“You have an underdeveloped anal cavity in your body, and you were marked by your Alpha partner, correct? I know you find this hard to believe, and the hospital has certainly never seen a case like this before. Currently, there are no known cases of Alphas becoming pregnant. However, the test results tell us that you are indeed pregnant, and you are already five weeks along.”
Gu Yuxi’s hand holding the test report was shaking. He couldn’t describe whether the feeling in his heart was shock or delight.
“There’s one more thing: we suggest that you cannot keep this child.”
Before Gu Yuxi could recover from the surprise, this sentence struck him hard, causing him to instantly freeze:
“…Why?”
“Because you are an Alpha. From the ultrasound, your anal cavity stopped developing a long time ago. Even though it exists, the cramped environment of the anal cavity makes it extremely difficult to nurture an embryo. Furthermore, the fetus will grow daily. Your anal cavity might not be able to support the baby’s development past four or five months. You will be in great danger, and the fetus will also be in great danger.”
“Since the fetus is only five weeks old now, we advise against keeping this child. The risks are too high.”
“What if I want to keep it?”
“The worst-case scenario is a double tragedy late in the pregnancy.”
Gu Yuxi didn’t know how he walked out of the hospital.
He never imagined that his waist pain was because he was pregnant. Before he could recover from the joy, the doctor advised him that he couldn’t keep the child.
Only one person came to mind.
If Luo Panzhi found out, he would surely be devastated.
What should he do?
How should he tell him?
Gu Yuxi stared at the parking lot ahead. The test report clutched tightly at his side was crumpled with creases from the force. The look in his eyes beneath his glasses seemed blurred with unshed tears.
He didn’t notice his phone vibrating in his pocket.
Nor did he notice the tall, muscular figure hiding behind a large tree not far away, facing his direction. A serpentine, ugly scar was inadvertently visible on the back of the hand poking out from the sleeve.
“Pregnant?” The hoarse voice, like sand grinding against the ground, rang out darkly, the laugh chilling.
It was the middle of the afternoon, and the sun overhead was blindingly hot.
Luo Panzhi couldn’t get through to Gu Yuxi’s phone, so he used the watch’s GPS to track him, eventually finding Gu Yuxi at People’s Hospital. He quickly parked the car and rushed out to look for him. After only a few steps, he saw Gu Yuxi sitting under the flowerbed of a towering tree not far away.
He saw the man hunched over, clutching his head, enveloped in an aura of intense sadness and despair.
He had never seen Gu Yuxi like this. His heart immediately tightened, as if something was relentlessly squeezing it. He began to feel nervous, an anxiety spreading throughout his body.
What happened? Why does he look so upset? Was the CT scan result bad? Is there something wrong with his waist?
Gu Yuxi didn’t know how long he had been sitting there. When he finally tried to sit up, he felt his waist begin to ache again, and his face instantly turned pale. Only now did he understand why the swelling pain transmitted from his abdomen to his lower back was happening: because he was pregnant.
In his stomach…
A vibrant little life was growing.
It was his and Luo Panzhi’s.
But he couldn’t keep it.
Why?
Just then, he felt a shadow fall over him, followed by the sight of familiar leather shoes. He looked up slowly, as if startled.
“Why are you hiding here? You won’t answer your phone, and you won’t tell me where you’re going. Don’t you know I worry?” Luo Panzhi stood before him, meeting Gu Yuxi’s gaze. He noticed the man’s pale face and red, tear-filled eyes, signs that he had been crying. His heart felt instantly seized with pain: “Why are you crying? Was the lumbar CT result bad? Why didn’t you tell me your waist hurt? Am I not allowed to be ordered around as your boyfriend?”
The moment Gu Yuxi saw Luo Panzhi appear, the torment he had been fiercely suppressing in his chest felt like a broken string, snapping and sending a dense, sharp pain through his heart. A choked sob rolled in his throat:
“…Panpan.”
Luo Panzhi heard Gu Yuxi’s almost squeezed-out call—light and hoarse, full of helplessness and confusion—and it hit his head like a heavy blow, making it ring. In that instant, countless terrible possibilities flashed through his mind.
Did something really serious happen to Gu Yuxi’s waist?
Was it so severe that it made Gu Yuxi this miserable?
He slowly squatted down, meeting Gu Yuxi at eye level. Looking into the red, wet eyes beneath the glasses, his heart ached unbearably. He reached out to touch his face, asking gently: “What is it, Baby? Did the doctor say your waist… is very serious?”
For something to make Gu Yuxi this fragile, it must be very serious.
Could it be that he won’t be able to walk?!
Luo Panzhi instantly started to blame himself for not being more careful. How did he fail to notice Gu Yuxi’s recent discomfort!
Gu Yuxi looked at Luo Panzhi squatting before him, asking so gently. His defenses completely crumbled, and the tears in his eyes could no longer be held back: “…I’m pregnant.”
Luo Panzhi was instantly stunned. His eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Gu Yuxi: “Wh-what?”
This news, comparable to a bolt from the blue, hit his head hard, leaving him dizzy. All the suspicion and anxiety in his chest felt tightly wrapped by the sheer surprise of the moment.
“But the doctor said we can’t keep it,”
This sentence, again, struck Luo Panzhi brutally.
“Because I’m an Alpha, and my underdeveloped anal cavity is too narrow. It can’t allow the baby to grow healthily.” Gu Yuxi slowly lowered his head, tears dripping onto the back of his hand. He tightly gripped his hands on his knees, trembling and choking out: “…Luo Panzhi, we have a child. We can have a child.”
Luo Panzhi had never experienced feelings like this before. It was like riding a roller coaster: an ecstasy that reached his throat, followed by an immediate descent into confusion at the bottom of the valley.
Hearing that Gu Yuxi had a child made him happy and incredibly surprised. Hearing Gu Yuxi say that because his anal cavity was too narrow the child couldn’t grow healthy and had to be aborted, made him heartbroken and lost.
But seeing Gu Yuxi crying like this hurt him even more.
His Gu Yuxi was the chief lawyer who could strategize and confront the opposing legal team with ease. He had witnessed Gu Yuxi’s calm and composed handling of matters in his professional field, as if no enemy or tricky situation could ever defeat this Alpha.
Yet, here he was, crying inconsolably in front of him.
It was all because of him. If he hadn’t forcibly marked Gu Yuxi during his heat cycle, he wouldn’t have gotten pregnant, and Gu Yuxi wouldn’t be this heartbroken.
Luo Panzhi, heartbroken, pulled Gu Yuxi into his embrace. At an angle where Gu Yuxi couldn’t see, his eyes became completely red: “Baby, I’m sorry. I’m the one who made you suffer.”
He felt heartache for this child that arrived like a surprise, but he cared more deeply for his beloved.
Gu Yuxi tightly hugged Luo Panzhi’s shoulder, feeling the warmth of his Alpha, trying hard not to cry out loud, using the embrace to soothe the breakdown he was experiencing internally.
He had never thought that he, an Alpha, could get pregnant. He hadn’t considered that his anal cavity, which had long stopped developing, could nurture a child. With things as they were, he didn’t know what words could describe the pain of having a child and then having to lose it.
But he was an adult now.
Yet…
He still couldn’t maintain his composure in the face of this unacceptable truth.
He had no parents, but now he had a child. He had just started feeling the anticipation of becoming a father, only to be told he had to kill that anticipation himself.
“I want… Luo Panzhi, I want this child.” Gu Yuxi lifted his head from Luo Panzhi’s embrace, red-eyed, gripping his arm tightly, his gaze full of the plea not to let go: “I don’t want to lose him. If I lose him, I will never have another child in this lifetime. Neither of us will have another child.”
Luo Panzhi looked at Gu Yuxi crying like this. He raised his hand, took off his glasses, and wiped his tears with his sleeve, gently and patiently coaxing him: “I know, but you also said the doctor mentioned your anal cavity is very narrow and the child might not be able to develop well.”
And it would injure Gu Yuxi.
His previous act of forced marking had already injured Gu Yuxi’s anal cavity, and if he could injure him, let alone a ten-month pregnancy.
He would never joke around with Gu Yuxi’s life.
Gu Yuxi felt the tension and heaviness blocking his throat. The dense pain radiating from his abdomen seemed to be telling him that all this pain was the reaction of the vivid life inside his anal cavity.
He understood Luo Panzhi’s meaning. The doctor had already stated the most dangerous possibility.
A very high price would have to be paid.
From the depths of his heart, hatred for Mo Wenbin surged up again. If it weren’t for Mo Wenbin…
No one could deprive him of the right to be a father.
Red-eyed, tears streaming, he looked blankly at Luo Panzhi: “We’re Dads.”
Luo Panzhi couldn’t bear Gu Yuxi’s gaze. He briefly looked away, feeling the sympathetic pain. He strongly controlled his own emotions, not wanting his feelings to affect Gu Yuxi further.
“…I know.” But his voice was ultimately unable to hide the choked emotion.
Gu Yuxi took a deep breath, his eyelashes fluttering as he closed his eyes.
Luo Panzhi’s throat tightened with emotion. He pulled Gu Yuxi back into his embrace.
So why did fate give them such a sudden surprise, only to brutally strip that surprise from them, piece by bloody piece?
“Let’s go see the doctor.” Luo Panzhi put his arm around the back of Gu Yuxi’s neck, pressed his cheek against his, and gently patted his back, his eyes gradually reddening. He tried his best to keep his voice from shaking: “Medical science is so advanced now. There might be a way to have both.”
But if it threatened Gu Yuxi’s life, then he would rather not have this child.
