A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 44
In the early morning, the cicadas outside the window clamored, as if waging a daily battle against the scorching summer heat.
Luo Panzhi gently pushed open the door and entered the ward. The moment he opened the door, he saw Gu Yuxi stepping out of the bathroom after a shower, his hair still dripping wet. Luo Panzhi’s expression instantly darkened.
“I went out just to grab breakfast, and you went to take a shower? Gu Yuxi, can you please show a little concern for yourself? You just got over your fever, and you immediately went to shower?”
He placed the insulated food container he had just brought from home aside and strode quickly toward Gu Yuxi.
“I was covered in sweat,” Gu Yuxi said, drying his hair. Then he saw Luo Panzhi approaching him with a black face and quietly pulled the towel down to cover his face.
The hand holding the towel was immediately gripped.
“You’re deliberately provoking me because you know I can’t touch you right now.” Luo Panzhi caught Gu Yuxi’s small action, seized the hand holding the towel to hide his face, and pulled it down, his expression severe: “You just want me to worry about you.”
But he couldn’t bear to be truly harsh.
Gu Yuxi, fresh out of the shower, was radiating heat and the fragrance of shower gel. His wet hair was ruffled and messy, looking languid. Droplets of water from his forehead strands slid down his nose and cheeks. He was completely unlike the usually meticulous Lawyer Gu, who was always in a suit and tie with not a single hair out of place. This current appearance was almost innocently docile, yet he was clearly faking obedience.
“You can be mad at me,” Gu Yuxi pulled his hand free from Luo Panzhi’s grasp and tried to walk away, but the next second, the towel wrapped around his head hooked him, and he was forcefully pulled forward by Luo Panzhi.
Luo Panzhi held the corners of the towel with both hands, using it to draw Gu Yuxi closer. He pressed a large hand against the back of his head and gently rubbed his wet hair through the towel, his gaze focused: “Lawyer Gu, are you determined to oppose me?”
The towel was large and soft, and Luo Panzhi’s hand strength was very gentle; even the water droplets behind his ears were gently wiped away.
“You’re my superior; how would I dare oppose you?” Gu Yuxi tilted his head slightly, finding his ear a little ticklish from the wiping.
Luo Panzhi sighed with a helpless smile. Sensing Gu Yuxi’s head tilt, he thought he was uncomfortable and unconsciously lightened his touch: “Then you’re my Ancestor. You tell me how many bottles of wine you drank these past few days. What did I tell you before?”
—Dare to drink one bottle in one go, and I’ll penetrate you ten times.
Gu Yuxi’s face was calm, pretending he had forgotten: “Doesn’t Young CEO Luo know why I drank them?”
The head under the towel tilted up slightly. Luo Panzhi’s hand paused as he wiped his hair. He met Gu Yuxi’s composed gaze. Without the cover of his cold, strict glasses, those eyes looked like those of an arrogant cat. His tone sounded careless but carried an unspoken hint of affection.
He was blaming him, but not really.
Luo Panzhi found himself somewhat defenseless. He pressed his lips together, suppressing a smile and turning his face away. This man truly didn’t realize that even this casual appearance could so easily win his heart and make him surrender unconditionally.
“Fine, my fault. It’s all my fault.”
Gu Yuxi heard Luo Panzhi say this again and was tired of it: “Saying ‘I’m sorry’ too much makes it sound insincere.”
Immediately after he spoke, Luo Panzhi began to rub his hair haphazardly with the towel. The large towel blocked his vision, and he immediately became annoyed, raising his hand to pull the towel off: “Luo Panzhi, you—”
The moment he pulled the towel back from his head, his vision was restored, and his eyes directly collided with Luo Panzhi’s deep, smiling gaze. Perhaps due to the intensity of the look, his mind momentarily froze.
The towel was still on the top of his head, held by Luo Panzhi at both ends. He suddenly became aware of how close they were.
They were so close that their warm breaths brushed against each other’s lips.
“Older Brother, I truly know I was wrong.” Luo Panzhi cupped Gu Yuxi’s face through the two sides of the towel, gazing at him tenderly, his voice exceptionally gentle: “My good Older Brother (Gege), please forgive me.”
The gentle, low voice carried a tone of compromise, weakness, and just the right amount of playful pleading—a precise maneuver.
Gu Yuxi’s ears were muffled by the towel, and he could feel the warmth of Luo Panzhi’s palms through it. It felt like being enclosed in a small world within Luo Panzhi’s arms. The voice entering his ear had its own sensual effect. He seemed to fall into those deeply affectionate eyes, suppressing himself for a moment, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
“Luo Panzhi, don’t try to seduce me.”
“How would I dare seduce you without Older Brother’s (Gege’s) permission?” Luo Panzhi reached up and brushed away the quickly drying stray hairs from Gu Yuxi’s forehead, smiling: “I’ve confiscated all the alcohol in your liquor cabinet.”
Gu Yuxi: “…”
He expressionlessly pulled Luo Panzhi’s hand away and walked to the bed to pick up his clean clothes from the sofa. He had been slightly ready to relent, but Luo Panzhi dared to confiscate all his alcohol! Could he tolerate that?
He certainly couldn’t.
Those bottles of liquor had taken him a lot of effort to acquire, especially the crystal cognac in the Hady Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter series, and the Rémy Martin Louis XIII Diamond Cognac.
“Last night, the doctor wanted to do a compatibility test for us, but your blood alcohol concentration was too high, which would affect the result. Do you remember what the doctor said? He told both of us to quit smoking and drinking, maintain a regular schedule, and avoid staying up late for half a month before taking the test.” Luo Panzhi held the towel and leaned casually against the side, watching Gu Yuxi.
The next second, his eyes darkened slightly.
By the window and in front of the sofa, Gu Yuxi was changing out of his loungewear. The light shining on his pale skin revealed scattered marks on his uncovered back, blatantly indicating someone’s claim of ownership, and also the faint pinch marks extending from his tight waistline down to the dimples of Venus.
He put on his shirt and used the reflection in the window to button it up: “Why should I take a compatibility test with you?” He subtly turned his body, just enough to see Luo Panzhi intently watching him, and the corner of his mouth curved slightly.
After putting on his shirt and slipping off his loungewear pants, he bent down to put on his neatly ironed suit trousers. The moment he stood up, two large hands clasped his waist.
“Because I marked you,” Luo Panzhi embraced Gu Yuxi from behind, his hands smoothing out the bottom of his shirt, tucking it into his waistband, and helping him button the waist. Then he took the belt, threading it through the loops. The sound of cold metal clinking could be faintly heard: “I want to see how high our compatibility level can be.”
Gu Yuxi’s gaze settled on Luo Panzhi, who was focused on neatly arranging his clothes in the window’s reflection. Hearing the mention of compatibility, he smiled silently. It seemed Luo Panzhi didn’t know that their compatibility was already one hundred percent.
“Young CEO Luo, have you ever considered that there might be an Omega in this world highly compatible with you? Like the young lady from the Jiang Group?”
Luo Panzhi put his hands on Gu Yuxi’s shoulders, turned him to face himself, lowered his head, and straightened his shirt collar: “Lawyer Gu, honestly, I have plenty of high-quality Omegas around me. Not just the young lady from the Jiang Group, but also many young masters and mistresses from other corporations. Any one of them could have high compatibility with me.”
Gu Yuxi’s expression darkened.
“But, I never found the Omega that captured my heart,” Luo Panzhi took a step back, holding Gu Yuxi’s shoulders and examining him, as if appreciating the outfit he had just straightened: “It wasn’t until I met you that I understood. It wasn’t that I couldn’t find someone I liked, but that I hadn’t waited for you to appear.”
Gu Yuxi’s expression softened slightly.
“I admit that I felt desire for you at first sight, fell in love instantly, was unable to stop myself but was forced to restrain my passion and desires, and now I’m completely unable to stop. How could I have any energy left to think about some random Omega?” Luo Panzhi saw Gu Yuxi looking at him meaningfully, and couldn’t help but smile, reaching out to pinch his cheek: “You’ve practically filled my heart. Where would anyone else fit?”
“Who knows, you have so many social engagements usually,” Gu Yuxi pushed Luo Panzhi’s hand away and walked to the side. He wouldn’t be so pathetic as to give in after less than a day, would he?
Luo Panzhi knew Gu Yuxi was anxious to be discharged and return to the corporation to handle his case. He didn’t stop him. After all, his fever was gone, and there was no real reason to keep him idle. Furthermore, his heat cycle was successfully over. Now that this major potential problem was solved, he truly had nothing to worry about.
So, his duty now, in addition to handling corporation matters, was surveillance of his mate.
“How about transferring to become my secretary?” Luo Panzhi followed Gu Yuxi, smiling: “I happen to need a personal secretary.”
This suggestion earned him a cold glare from Gu Yuxi.
“Then I can also apply for a transfer and go back to CEO Chu’s side,” Gu Yuxi opened the ward door and walked out: “As for a personal secretary, you should see if there’s a suitable Omega for you.”
“Oh, come on, don’t always use Omegas to get angry at me! I told you I don’t like Omegas.”
“I was an Omega before.”
“…But you’re an Alpha now.”
“So you didn’t like the me before?”
“Are you going to play sophistry with me now? Yes, I didn’t like you when you were an Omega, and if you were an Omega now, I really wouldn’t like you. I only like you as the Alpha you are now. What do you say? What else do you have to counter me with? Bring it on.”
“…”
Gu Yuxi looked sideways at Luo Panzhi: “I find you really irritating sometimes. Do people court someone like this?”
“Yes, and I succeeded!” Luo Panzhi leaned against his arm, raised an eyebrow at him, and pointed to his own chest: “A success story of a successful man.”
“Hmph.”
Luo Panzhi continued to stick close, relentlessly: “I’m genuinely confident in myself. If I could win you over once, I can win you over a second time. Do you know why?”
Gu Yuxi expressionlessly raised his hand to block Luo Panzhi’s approach: “Judging by your current performance, I think it’s questionable.”
“Older Brother.”
Gu Yuxi: “…” Got him.
Luo Panzhi took the opportunity to grasp Gu Yuxi’s raised hand, pull it down, and interlock their fingers, a mischievous, roguish smile forming on his lips: “Younger Brother has prepared puppy ears, you know.”
Gu Yuxi looked at Luo Panzhi in disbelief, suspecting he had misheard.
Luo Panzhi slightly turned his body, raised his other hand to the side of his head, and curled his fingers together, imitating a small dog’s ears moving with joy. He looked at Gu Yuxi, blinking and smiling: “Older Brother, Woof woof~”
Gu Yuxi: “!”
It’s over; this is exactly his weak spot.
“Want to see them tonight?” Luo Panzhi lowered his hand and leaned close to Gu Yuxi, his eyes burning with intensity.
Gu Yuxi hesitated to speak.
“We can pause the cold war for one night. After tonight, we can resume the breakup cold war tomorrow. What do you say?”
Gu Yuxi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. This suggestion was quite tempting.
Luo Panzhi took in all of Gu Yuxi’s expressions and couldn’t help but laugh: “But the doctor said not to for a short while, remember? Because I injured your anal cavity.”
Gu Yuxi looked pointedly at Luo Panzhi: “…Stay away from me.”
“Did Younger Brother’s puppy seduction get to you?” Luo Panzhi saw Gu Yuxi’s instant look of disappointment and annoyance and turned his face away, laughing uncontrollably.
Gu Yuxi took a deep breath: “Luo Panzhi, don’t push me.”
“I’m not pushing you,” Luo Panzhi said, looking innocent. The next second, he clutched his chest where he was struck, crying out “Aww” in pain, and looked wide-eyed at Gu Yuxi, who had hit him: “Baby, you hit me?!”
Gu Yuxi expressionlessly withdrew his fist: “You deserved it.”
“It hurts so much! I need a kiss to make it better,” Luo Panzhi pretended to be in severe pain and leaned closer to Gu Yuxi: “Baby, kiss it better for me.”
“Who’s your baby? We broke up.”
“Didn’t we agree to wear the puppy ears for you tonight? Older Brother, don’t you want to see them?”
The mention of puppy ears seemed to flip a switch for Gu Yuxi, making his heart itch. He looked at Luo Panzhi: “Didn’t the doctor say no intimacy for a short time?”
“We can’t be intimate, but I can wear them just for you to look at,” Luo Panzhi noticed a nurse walking by and whispered to Gu Yuxi: “I’ll just wear the apron and the puppy ears for you to look at. How’s that?”
The nurse walked past them.
Gu Yuxi’s expression suggested serious contemplation. Not seeing the nurse in his periphery, he cleared his throat and replied nonchalantly: “I’ll accept it reluctantly.”
He was clearly dying to see it.
A hint of cunning flashed in Luo Panzhi’s eyes. He lowered his voice and said again: “Guaranteed owner satisfaction.”
Gu Yuxi’s body stiffened abruptly. He looked at Luo Panzhi in astonishment, his eyes seemingly asking, ‘You play that rough?‘
Luo Panzhi was slightly embarrassed by Gu Yuxi’s look. He gave him a bear hug on the shoulder and rubbed his head against him: “Don’t look at me like that. I’m sacrificing myself for you. If you don’t want it, I won’t do it. I’d be embarrassed too.”
“You’d be embarrassed? Your moves seem quite practiced, little puppy,” Gu Yuxi truly couldn’t resist, raising his hand to stroke his ear: “What kind of puppy ears are they?”
“Doberman, black ones.”
Gu Yuxi took a deep breath.
“Do you like them?” Luo Panzhi asked with a smile.
“Just a little,” Gu Yuxi tried to hide his fondness. He truly couldn’t resist fluffy things; if he weren’t so busy with work, he would definitely own a dog.
“Oh~ just a lot,” Luo Panzhi drew out the final syllable, nodding with understanding: “So, are you a lot happier now?”
“We’re resuming the breakup tomorrow,” Gu Yuxi maintained his final stubborn stand.
Luo Panzhi couldn’t help himself with this man’s mix of coldness and intensity. He wrapped his arms around Gu Yuxi’s head and ruffled his hair, as if venting his frustration, yet being careful not to be too rough: “Honestly, I’m going to spoil you rotten eventually.”
“You don’t want to?”
“I couldn’t be more willing.”
Even if Gu Yuxi didn’t ask, he was going to give Gu Yuxi a wonderful courtship experience.
The bright afternoon sun poured through the corridor window, illuminating the white wall and falling upon the two men in suits. If one could ignore the childish dialogue and actions, the scene was still beautiful. At least from the back, it looked like a love story between two mature men.
In reality, it truly was a story between two mature men.
But a preface needed to be added:
This is a love story where the more they learned about each other, the more they realized the other person was exactly their type.
Because every step they took for each other felt right.
