A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 35
“Has the court date been set?”
Gu Yuxi asked, driving, listening to his friend Qi Lin ask this from the passenger seat. “Next month.”
Qi Lin leaned his hand on the car window frame, supporting his head. He chuckled: “They probably never expected this case to evolve like this, right? It seems that woman doesn’t want either side to have an easy time of it. What is her motive?”
“I don’t know,” Gu Yuxi turned the steering wheel, driving past the traffic circle: “I clearly promised to help her, yet she ultimately chose Mo Wenbin. Is an Omega so irrational after being marked?”
“Not necessarily. It depends on her personal choice. Clearly, she is being utterly reckless by doing this. Whether this counter-suit is fought or not, Ruixing Hospital will bear criminal responsibility. Even if Song Yinling claims mental instability, they can’t escape the undeniable autopsy results. They probably thought they could exploit the loophole of secondary differentiation, completely unaware that you are the expert on that.”
“The final resolution of your case and the counter-suit will only be possible once Song Yinling and Mo Wenbin are apprehended. There is no need to rush, and thankfully, you are okay.”
Gu Yuxi smiled noncommittally.
Qi Lin looked at Gu Yuxi: “Speaking of which, do you know your boss’s cousin, Jian Wenxing?”
“What about him?”
“He’s quite interesting.”
The traffic light ahead turned red. Gu Yuxi slowly stopped the car: “How so?”
“He thought I was truly your boyfriend. He came to find me because Luo Panzhi likes you, asking if I could break up with you. It made me laugh.” Qi Lin leaned his head against his hand on the window frame, laughing out loud: “I initially thought he was joking, but guess what he did?”
Gu Yuxi was clearly not familiar with Jian Wenxing; he had only seen him once at the bar that day but hadn’t paid much attention, as his eyes were only on Luo Panzhi back then.
“What did he do?”
“I don’t know how he found my law office, but he’d try every way possible to stake me out and find ways to make me break up with you so you could be with his cousin, Luo Panzhi. One time was even more exaggerated: he said if I liked Alphas, I could consider him! He’s truly going all out for his cousin’s happiness.” Qi Lin’s eyes were full of amusement: “How could I like an Alpha? I only like Omegas.”
“So, what did you tell him?” Gu Yuxi suddenly had a bad feeling, as he hadn’t told Qi Lin that he and Luo Panzhi were together.
Qi Lin said: “I just told him that Gu Yuxi and I would never break up, to crush his hope and to crush his cousin’s hope! Hahahaha, good brother, wasn’t that clever?”
Gu Yuxi: “… When did you say that?”
“Just now,” Qi Lin took out his phone, opened his chat with Jian Wenxing, and handed it to Gu Yuxi: “He was still asking if I could accept him. I thought this kid was too annoying, so I told him directly. Two birds with one stone! It resolves the surface trouble for both of us. After all, you only need Luo Panzhi’s pheromones; you don’t actually like him.”
“I’m with Luo Panzhi.”
Qi Lin’s eyes widened: “What?! When did you get together with him?!” Although he had seen Luo Panzhi when visiting Gu Yuxi in the hospital during this period, he hadn’t noticed anything.
“While I was hospitalized.” Gu Yuxi suddenly felt a headache coming on: “It might be a bit sudden to tell you now, but Luo Panzhi has known all along that you and I are not lovers. He was just waiting for me to admit it.”
Qi Lin’s expression was blank: “So you admitted it?”
“Mhm.”
“So you got together with him because you like his pheromones?!”
“It started that way, but later I came to like him.”
“So, the clown is actually me?” Qi Lin suddenly felt like this was the most socially disastrous situation. Given how protective Jian Wenxing was of his brother, how could he not know that he and Gu Yuxi weren’t actually in a relationship? “Then why was Jian Wenxing pursuing me?”
Gu Yuxi saw the green light ahead. His mind was focused only on what Luo Panzhi would do if he found out: “I only know that if Luo Panzhi finds out, I might be in trouble.”
At least for tonight, he might be in trouble. He freed a hand and punched Qi Lin’s arm.
Qi Lin clutched his arm in pain, his expression completely frozen: “I’ve been played by an athlete?!” That little puppy dared to trick him! He originally thought the guy was just a simple-minded, brawny puppy.
Gu Yuxi was expressionless.
“No, Old Gu, this isn’t right. Maybe he doesn’t know you and Luo Panzhi are together?” Qi Lin was still trying for one last desperate attempt.
“I don’t know.” Gu Yuxi also didn’t know if Luo Panzhi had told his family. He suddenly recalled Mr. Luo’s attitude that day. It seemed he hadn’t expressed any opinion about him and Luo Panzhi—neither agreeing nor disagreeing. He hadn’t thought much of it then, but now the memory stirred some unease.
Qi Lin held his head in agony: “I’m sorry, brother, I only know that I’m also very embarrassed right now. I was the one who told him that you and I would be happy forever. If he finds out, won’t that be a slap in the face?”
Gu Yuxi suddenly felt like just giving up, because he knew that if Qi Lin really told his cousin about this, the cousin would definitely tell Luo Panzhi.
Panpan is so jealous…
And he had promised, “It’s up to you” for tonight.
Suddenly, he wanted to work overtime.
Chu-Gu’s Home—
[Working overtime tonight.]
Luo Panzhi’s eyes darkened when he received this message from Gu Yuxi. Working overtime? The CEO himself hadn’t announced overtime, so why was an employee working overtime?
He had promised, “It’s up to you” tonight!!
“Youpan (Right/Pat-Side-Panzhi), I think that Qi Lin must really love Lawyer Gu. I used all my charms and the handsome-man tactic, but I couldn’t tempt him to break up with Lawyer Gu. This situation is dicey.” Jian Wenxing lay comfortably on the living room sofa, hugging a cushion. Then he shouted up to the stairs: “Zhizhi (Paternal Cousin)! I want strawberries!”
Luo Panzhi threw a cushion right at Jian Wenxing’s face: “Is ‘Zhizhi’ what you should call me? Call me ‘Ge’ (Brother).” Hearing Jian Wenxing’s words, his brows furrowed: “What do you mean ‘tempt him to break up with Lawyer Gu’?”
Jian Wenxing quickly caught the cushion Luo Panzhi threw. He flipped over and sat up: “No, didn’t you say you wanted Lawyer Gu to break up with his boyfriend? I thought I could help you, so I tried to tempt Qi Lin, but he was immune. Just now, I even asked him if he could accept me, and he immediately shot me down, saying, ‘I will be happy with Yuxi forever.'”
Luo Panzhi’s expression sank. Hadn’t Gu Yuxi said this was all a trick?
He definitely trusted his wife’s words, but he couldn’t trust another man’s words. Could that Qi Lin have been coveting his wife for years?!
Reflecting on the time he had spent watching the two of them discuss the case, he couldn’t recall anything suspicious, but who knew what other intentions Qi Lin had.
He suddenly remembered that Gu Yuxi went to the Procuratorate with Qi Lin, and then he received the message about working overtime. He abruptly stood up: “I’m going back to the Group.”
He shouted upstairs: “Zuogu (Left/Care-Side-Gu), I have an emergency. I’m leaving!”
“Huh?”
Chu Guzhi, who was practicing piano upstairs, heard his younger brother call him and immediately walked out. Leaning on the railing to look down, he saw Luo Panzhi hurrying out: “Didn’t you say you’d leave after dinner?”
“Emergency. I’ll tell you later. Gotta go.” Luo Panzhi quickly walked out.
He had originally thought about inviting Gu Yuxi over for dinner to introduce him to his brother, but now it seemed the time wasn’t right.
No, he had to go find Gu Yuxi and clarify things.
Ahhh, my wife is mine!!!
The evening sky was clear and vast, painted with pink and purple twilight. Cotton clouds cast a faint afterglow.
The LJ Galaxy Group never worked overtime unless under special circumstances. At six o’clock in the evening, employees clocked out punctually. Office lights were turned off one after another, and farewells echoed in the hallways.
Gu Yuxi’s office light was still on.
He was reviewing the files of Song Yinling and Mo Wenbin, hoping to find some clues. Perhaps feeling fatigued from looking at them for too long, he stood up, intending to pour a cup of coffee.
But the moment he stood up, a wave of dizziness washed over him. He instinctively grabbed the edge of the desk.
The dizziness didn’t last long, but it was accompanied by a gradually increasing heat. It was a tingling sensation even stronger than the morning, the same unbearable discomfort he felt that previous time at home when he couldn’t find relief even by tossing and turning.
The hand supporting the desk trembled slightly. His lower back felt weak, his eyes became clouded, and a thin layer of sweat broke out on his forehead.
…This is bad.
Inside the office, the Alpha pheromones—the sweetness of vanilla and the chill of rose—instantly spread out, causing hearts to flutter.
Just then, the office door was pushed open from the outside.
“Lawyer Gu is truly a good employee, even volunteering to work overtime. I thought you were lying to me, secretly going on a date with your ‘boyfriend.'”
Gu Yuxi abruptly looked up when he heard the familiar voice and saw that it was Luo Panzhi who had walked in.
Unlike his pristine appearance this morning, Luo Panzhi in the evening had already taken off his suit jacket, which was draped over his arm. His shirt collar was slightly open, and his sleeves were loosely rolled up, revealing the firm lines of his arms. He was relaxed, casual, and radiated an untamed, elegant hormonal scent that spread throughout the space.
Especially his Oolong Brandy Alpha pheromones—intoxicating and sexy—silently enticing the Vanilla Juliet.
The two Alpha pheromones showed no rejection, yet they did not immediately fuse like Alpha and Omega. Instead, they began a gradual, equally matched test of will.
Gu Yuxi’s eyes became clouded. Driven by instinct, he urgently desired that pheromone during his most uncomfortable moment: “… Luo Panzhi, I feel a little unwell.”
“Unwell, you say.” Luo Panzhi walked up to Gu Yuxi, leaning casually against the desk, looking at him: “How are you unwell? Tell me about it. Perhaps your boyfriend can’t help you, but I can.”
Gu Yuxi paused at Luo Panzhi’s words, realizing what was going on despite his foggy mind: “You know?”
Meaning Luo Panzhi’s cousin really told him.
But he couldn’t spare the energy to think about that now; the heat was overwhelming.
Luo Panzhi raised his hand and hooked Gu Yuxi’s glasses off. He looked into those moist, clouded eyes, taking in the sight of the flushed man: “What should I know? That your ‘boyfriend’ hasn’t broken up with you and wants to be happy with you forever?”
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt a pair of hands wrap around his neck. Gu Yuxi’s arms pressed against his cheeks, emitting a faint Vanilla Juliet pheromone. Though it was an Alpha pheromone, perhaps due to the susceptible period (rut) and pseudo-heat symptoms, it was strangely gentle, like water, at this moment.
“Qi Lin and I are really just good friends. I only want to be happy with you forever. Young CEO Luo, help me…” Gu Yuxi felt unbearably hot all over. He reached out and hugged Luo Panzhi, burying his head into his shoulder and neck, his voice trembling at the end: “I’m unwell.”
His restrained rationality, like a towering wall of bronze and iron, instantly crumbled the moment Luo Panzhi appeared.
Along with it, the secret from the office this morning could no longer be hidden.
He was indeed feeling strange, but he wasn’t sure if it was a pseudo-heat or a susceptible period (rut). He just felt an intense itchiness at the back of his neck, a light, subtle torment that also made him irritable, which was why he had been slightly angry when Luo Panzhi turned off his alarm clock.
Luo Panzhi was no saint. The person he loved was clinging to him like a cat in his arms, whispering sweetly on his shoulder. How could he not react? But he was still irritated by the thought of that Qi Lin.
He let Gu Yuxi hug and rub against him, but he didn’t raise his hands to hug him back, his expression cold: “Lawyer Gu, when your susceptible period comes, doesn’t your lover help you?”
The more he thought, the angrier he got. Gu Yuxi could only be his!
Gu Yuxi was so uncomfortable that his eyes were red. Feeling Luo Panzhi wasn’t hugging him, he could only tighten his embrace, his voice trembling with endurance: “… Can’t you?”
“Ah, would that be appropriate? What if your lover gets jealous?” Luo Panzhi heard Gu Yuxi’s voice, which was practically a sob, and a smile touched his eyes. He was so naughty; his wife was about to cry.
“Are you jealous?” Gu Yuxi felt like he couldn’t hold on anymore, his legs turning soft.
Luo Panzhi quickly hooked his arm around Gu Yuxi’s waist, chuckling softly. He lifted Gu Yuxi onto the office desk, then placed his hands on either side of him, looking into his eyes, which were teary with urgency: “I am jealous. Qi Lin said he wants to be with you forever. What about me?”
“He was joking.” Gu Yuxi hugged Luo Panzhi’s back, as if searching for some comfort, and murmured: “You wronged me.”
“Who told you to have criminal evidence with me?” Luo Panzhi pinched the back of Gu Yuxi’s neck. His fingertips felt hot: “Who told you to be so disobedient, even conspiring with that Qi Lin? Now you know what it feels like to be uncomfortable?”
“I know I’m uncomfortable.” Gu Yuxi found the pinch on his neck somewhat soothing, his expression hazy: “Baby, pinch me again.”
“Why call me ‘Baby’? Change the title,” Luo Panzhi laughed, curving his lips.
“Panpan, pinch me again.”
“Change the title again. No change, no pinch.” Luo Panzhi pretended to withdraw his hand.
Gu Yuxi grew anxious: “Husband, pinch me.”
Luo Panzhi was satisfied. He leaned closer, his eyes full of gentle indulgence: “Alright, your Husband will pinch Baby.”
