A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 25
The old residential community lacked an elevator. Gu Yuxī (also spelled Gu Yuxi) walked up seven flights of stairs, and once on the seventh floor, he looked left and right for a long time but couldn’t tell which apartment was 704 because there were no door numbers.
Just as he was about to call Sòng Yínlíng (also spelled Song Yinling), the iron door directly across from him suddenly opened.
The woman in the slip dress was Sòng Yínlíng.
Gu Yuxī saw Sòng Yínlíng’s attire and subtly concealed the emotion in his eyes. As an Omega, she should protect herself better. Regardless of their acquaintance, she shouldn’t be dressed so revealingly, especially in front of an Alpha.
“Lawyer Gu, did you come alone?” Sòng Yínlíng instinctively glanced behind Gu Yuxī. Her heart sank when she realized Luò Pànzhī hadn’t come.
“Yes,” Gu Yuxī nodded.
Sòng Yínlíng hesitated for a moment, then stepped aside to let Gu Yuxī enter: “Come in. The house is a bit messy, please don’t mind it.”
“It’s fine. Do I need to take off my shoes?”
“No, you can just walk right in.”
Just as Gu Yuxī walked past Sòng Yínlíng, his steps paused momentarily, as if he was discerning something, and a look of caution appeared under his glasses.
Sòng Yínlíng carried the scent of another Alpha—a very bitter, gentian scent.
That pheromone smell…
Gu Yuxī frowned, instantly feeling a bit uncomfortable in his stomach.
Then, he heard Sòng Yínlíng close and lock the door and instinctively glanced backward.
Sòng Yínlíng met Gu Yuxī’s gaze. She smiled faintly, but the smile was forced: “What’s wrong? Come in, I’ll pour you a cup of tea.” With that, she walked toward the kitchen.
Gu Yuxī suppressed the doubt in his heart and walked into the living room to sit down.
The apartment must have been quite old. It was small and dilapidated, and it looked like it hadn’t been tidied in days; items were scattered haphazardly.
He took out the collected documents from his briefcase and placed them on the cluttered coffee table. As he tried to clear a space for his files, he inadvertently glimpsed an opened condom wrapper under a tissue box.
Why would an Omega whose lover had just passed away have an opened condom wrapper in her home?
If it had been sealed, it might have been understandable—perhaps they used to live here together.
But it was opened.
Moreover, he had just smelled Alpha pheromones on Sòng Yínlíng. Why would Sòng Yínlíng have the pheromones of another Alpha on her?
“Lawyer Gu, please have some tea.”
Sòng Yínlíng bent down and placed the tea in front of Gu Yuxī.
At this close distance, the Alpha pheromones emanating from Sòng Yínlíng grew more intense. It was the ebony-gentian Alpha pheromone. What else could a strong Alpha pheromone on an Omega signify but that the Omega had been marked by an Alpha?
And this pheromone scent…
The revulsion and hatred rising from his core made Gu Yuxī’s face change, and the back of his neck began to ache uncomfortably.
This was Mò Wénbīn’s (also spelled Mo Wenbin) pheromone!
Gu Yuxī looked at Sòng Yínlíng in disbelief: “You… you were marked by Mò Wénbīn?”
Sòng Yínlíng was surprised that Gu Yuxī had figured it out so quickly. Her expression froze for a moment.
Gu Yuxī looked at Sòng Yínlíng’s face, and the mystery that had been plaguing him suddenly became clear.
Why could Ruixing Hospital handle this matter so calmly even after the family agreed to an autopsy, changing lawyers and proceeding methodically? Why were they not afraid of Sòng Yínlíng claiming Mò Wénbīn hadn’t died and had assaulted the Beta?
The reason was simple: the Beta had never been assaulted.
Then why did the Beta undergo secondary differentiation? Secondary differentiation only happens when an individual is subjected to extreme threat or stimulation, resulting in a strong stress reaction. Just like him, Mò Wénbīn’s actions stimulated his secondary differentiation.
This Beta must have seen something, experienced great trauma, and undergone secondary differentiation under the stimulation of Alpha pheromones.
Because the person who truly had a relationship with Mò Wénbīn was Sòng Yínlíng.
The living are easier to control than the dead. If Sòng Yínlíng was the one assaulted, the death of the Beta during the injection of the sexual guidance agent could be squarely blamed on the Galaxy Group’s agent. Even an autopsy wouldn’t necessarily reveal Alpha fluids or pheromones in the Beta’s body.
So Mò Wénbīn never died.
Sòng Yínlíng was not mentally unstable at all.
Ruixing Hospital intended to use this incident to tarnish the Galaxy Group’s reputation, attempting to obtain the sexual guidance agent formula and prevent the Galaxy Group from dominating the market. Sòng Yínlíng’s appearance was an accident, yet it made the plan proceed remarkably smoothly.
And the mastermind was Mò Wénbīn.
A person who was already ‘dead’ meant there was indeed ‘no body, no witness’ (dead men tell no tales)—that was the confidence of Ruixing Hospital.
This woman lied to him.
“I…” Sòng Yínlíng’s eyes flickered with apology and a plea for help when she looked at Gu Yuxī, but she also seemed fearful, instinctively glancing at a tightly closed door nearby.
Gu Yuxī noticed Sòng Yínlíng’s gaze, looked at the closed room, and instantly seemed to understand.
He silently stood up and turned away, taking a deep breath to relieve the nausea and disgust caused by the ebony-gentian pheromones permeating the apartment.
Mò Wénbīn was here.
The voice from the doorbell moments ago wasn’t Sòng Yínlíng’s; it was Mò Wénbīn’s.
Why did she call him here? What was their goal?
“I’m sorry…” Sòng Yínlíng whispered to Gu Yuxī. She took two steps closer: “I had no choice. He said he wanted to see you, and if I didn’t make you come, he would kill me.”
Gu Yuxī took a step back as she approached and couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh at her words: “Sòng Yínlíng, this is a society governed by law. What are you afraid of? Tell me now: was your lover not assaulted? Did you lie?”
“I was forced,” tears spilled from Sòng Yínlíng’s eyes. She sobbed: “…He assaulted me. He violated me in front of my lover. He is the one who caused my lover’s death.”
“Then why didn’t you say anything!!” Gu Yuxī couldn’t bear it any longer and shouted. His chest rose and fell rapidly. He turned his face away, biting his lip hard to control his anger: “If you don’t speak up, who will help you, who will protect you? You’re an Omega. Do you think you’ll have a good outcome by compromising with these forces? Why let yourself be dragged into this? You’re not protecting yourself; you’ve become his accomplice, do you understand?”
“But I’ve already been completely marked by him,” Sòng Yínlíng cried uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face in despair: “He marked me, which means I’ll have a baby soon. What will I do if my child doesn’t have a father?”
Gu Yuxī had never felt someone could be so foolish. When such a thing happened, she didn’t think about protecting herself but about the child, about the child not having a father.
“Do you think Mò Wénbīn will take responsibility for you? Do you think a person like him has a sense of responsibility?! He was a doctor, he won so many awards, did so much charity—glamorous on the surface, but what about behind the scenes? What has he done? I am one victim, and there may be thousands more. His public actions are nothing more than a disguise for his filth.”
Sòng Yínlíng was sobbing hysterically. She clenched her fists, shaking all over as she cried: “…But I’m just an Omega. I can’t do anything.”
Gu Yuxī’s expression returned to its usual composure. He looked at Sòng Yínlíng: “Weren’t you the Omega who desperately smashed the door to save me back then? Who says you can’t do anything? You saved me. And now, you know the person who harmed me is Mò Wénbīn, you know I am the lawyer on this case, and that I will definitely win this lawsuit to restore justice and innocence to you and your lover. Why choose to conspire with him? You’d rather trust a villain than trust the Galaxy Group?!”
Sòng Yínlíng’s tear-filled eyes trembled.
Gu Yuxī didn’t understand: “Why did you choose to lie to me?”
Just then, the sound of a door opening with a “creak” came from behind him.
“Because you are too lucky. Sòng Yínlíng is jealous of you. She also wants to be protected by a powerful entity like you and live a good life. If she helps me, she can have that worry-free life.”
A deep, murky voice rang out from behind, heavy and turbid, like crushed dirt mixed with stones and sand, causing one to shiver involuntarily.
It was the voice he had heard at the hospital that day.
The person on the wheelchair was indeed Mò Wénbīn.
Gu Yuxī’s body stiffened in place. He desperately tried to control the physiological stress response, to keep the fear from consuming his reason, but he couldn’t control the surging nausea in his stomach and the aching pain in the back of his neck.
He instinctively covered the wristwatch on his arm.
So, why did Sòng Yínlíng call him over, knowing Mò Wénbīn was here?
Was he planning to deal with him?
The ebony-gentian Alpha pheromone gradually permeated the room, clinging to his back, like a monstrous entity with bared fangs and claws, attempting to crush the sanity of another Alpha.
“Gu Yuxī, long time no see. You are no longer that beautiful little Omega from back then. You’re an Alpha now.”
Gu Yuxī slowly turned his head.
He saw a very tall, short-haired man wearing a dark green T-shirt walk out of the room. His bare arms were covered with tattoos of roses and intertwining vines. He was not in a wheelchair. He walked out wearing a black mask, his face obscured.
But those eyes were deep and lifeless, and the ugly scar on the back of his hand was like a snake struggling for life—a sight Gu Yuxī would never forget.
The Alpha pheromones on the man spread unrestrainedly. The ebony-gentian pheromone was incredibly bitter, clearly indicating he had not injected a suppressant and was freely releasing his pheromones.
Gu Yuxī felt a strong repulsion to this Alpha pheromone, and his face was pale due to the physiological aversion, but there was no hint of retreat in his eyes: “Yes, thanks to you, I became an Alpha.”
Because he didn’t want to give up on himself.
In this world, he was the only one who couldn’t give up on himself. When he was alone, helpless, and had nothing, if he gave up on himself, he would never forgive himself.
Choosing to become an Alpha was the best way for him to protect himself.
“If you hadn’t become an Alpha, you might be the Omega I’m hiding now. What a shame,” Mò Wénbīn walked behind Sòng Yínlíng, raised his hand, and tugged her long hair, dragging her behind him. His eyes were cold, and his actions extremely brutal: “I searched for over a decade and only managed to find an Omega whose scent was barely similar to yours. Otherwise, why would I have marked her? Of course, we both get what we need.”
Sòng Yínlíng couldn’t resist such a tall man and cried out in pain as she was pulled.
Gu Yuxī’s face suddenly darkened at the sight: “Mò Wénbīn, if you have a problem, direct it at me. Why are you doing this to an Omega? Let her go.”
“You have sympathy for her, but she’s the one who tricked you into coming here. You can’t leave today, so you’d better worry about yourself.” Mò Wénbīn placed his hand on Sòng Yínlíng’s neck gland, bent down, and whispered something to her.
“What are you planning to do!”
Gu Yuxī saw Sòng Yínlíng shake her head in terror after hearing him, continuously saying no. He quickly stepped forward, attempting to pull Sòng Yínlíng away.
Mò Wénbīn let out an ugly laugh, clamping his hand tightly around Sòng Yínlíng’s neck, completely ignoring the struggling Omega beneath him. He looked at Gu Yuxī with sinister eyes: “Come any closer, and I’ll choke her to death. Did you think I would let you leave today? It’s because of you that I ‘died’; it’s because of you that I’m forever forced to live in the darkness.”
“Since you know everything, I certainly can’t let you go. I shouldn’t have spared you back then.”
Gu Yuxī’s heart sank as he met the man’s sinister eyes. Indeed, this man was targeting him, which is why he caused such a mess.
“What do you want?”
Mò Wénbīn’s laugh was grating: “Nothing much. I just want to finish what I didn’t do back then, but with a different person filling in for me.” Then he shoved Sòng Yínlíng toward Gu Yuxī: “Sòng Yínlíng, if you don’t release your pheromones now, you will die by my hands and go find your lover in heaven. You decide.”
As soon as the man finished speaking, the scent of Omega pheromones quickly filled the apartment.
The lemon-bluebell Omega pheromone was like the sudden onset of a heat cycle. The Omega pheromone directly broke through the suppressant’s blockade, releasing its full concentration, strongly stimulating Gu Yuxī.
The ebony-gentian Alpha pheromone was extremely disgusting to him, and this lemon-bluebell Omega pheromone seemed to have a strong rejection reaction with the other pheromones in his blood. Silently, it tightened its grip around his life force.
Sòng Yínlíng tried to embrace Gu Yuxī, but Gu Yuxī forcefully pushed her away.
Gu Yuxī stumbled back a few steps, avoiding Sòng Yínlíng. He looked at her in disbelief: “You…”
Was Sòng Yínlíng trying to seduce him?
The next second, his pupils suddenly dilated. His heart pounded with heavy, slow “thump, thump, thump” sounds. The blood in his entire body seemed to flow backward, his breathing instantly became labored, and his face lost all color.
His body swayed. With a “thud,” his knees buckled, and he dropped to the floor.
His glasses fell from his nose, blurring his vision.
What was happening…?
What was wrong with him? Why couldn’t he breathe?
The man seemed surprised that this happened. His eyes darkened, and he grabbed Sòng Yínlíng, pulling her toward the exit: “Go. He can’t accept your pheromones and is having a rejection reaction. We can’t stay here.”
Sòng Yínlíng herself was weak from the onset of her heat cycle and could only be dragged away, but as she was pulled out, she looked back at Gu Yuxī, who was collapsed on the floor.
It was over…
Pheromone rejection could kill someone. That’s how her lover died.
With a “bang,” the iron door was violently shut.
Only Gu Yuxī was left in the apartment.
Gu Yuxī struggled desperately to prop himself up, trembling, using his hands to brace himself on the floor. The repulsive Alpha pheromone and the conflicting Omega pheromone were stimulating him.
He felt dizzy and faint, his body cold and weak, his stomach churning with nausea, and the back of his neck burning in pain. He lowered his head listlessly, then felt warm liquid flow down his face from his nose.
Drip, drop.
Drop after drop of blood fell onto the white porcelain floor, landing on the watch face on his wrist.
He stared blankly at the blood dripping onto the watch. A ripple spread in his hazy eyes. He reached out his trembling hand, trying to grab his phone: “…Luò Pànzhī.”
He was in too much pain to stand up.
It hurts so much…
He had to find Luò Pànzhī.
But why did it hurt so badly?
“Luò Pànzhī…”
Just as he tried to dial the number with his trembling hand, the next second, his eyes lost focus. With a “clatter,” his phone fell to the floor. He closed his eyes, his consciousness completely consumed by darkness.
He collapsed heavily onto the floor.
Galaxy Group—
With a “crash,” a glass cup fell from the desk onto the floor, shattering everywhere. The crisp sound echoed in the CEO’s office.
Luò Pànzhī glanced at the cup he had accidentally broken, then looked at the tracking device on his computer, which had suddenly started moving very fast. He thought Gu Yuxī might have left after their chat, but his heart was suddenly very unsettled.
“Little Boss Luò, bad news!!!”
Just then, Xŭ Wén burst into the office.
Luò Pànzhī looked up at the hurried Xŭ Wén, frowning: “What’s the bad news?”
He was already in a bad mood, and Xŭ Wén’s interruption only made him more irritable.
“Lawyer Gu suffered hypovolemic shock and has been rushed to the hospital!”
Luò Pànzhī’s head buzzed. He abruptly stood up, his face instantly turning grim. He snatched his car keys and quickly walked out: “Why did he suddenly go into shock? Wasn’t he at Sòng Yínlíng’s place?! Where did the accident happen?!”
“It happened at Miss Sòng’s house. He’s already been emergency rushed to Galaxy Group Hospital. The two bodyguards said they couldn’t reach you, so they called me, and I came immediately.”
Luò Pànzhī immediately pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw that he had indeed missed the calls. Why did he set it to silent?!
He had never felt such a loss of control. His apprehension had seemingly foreshadowed this, ever since Gu Yuxī left, including the act of exchanging his watch with the tracking device for Gu Yuxī’s.
“Do you know the cause?”
“The bodyguards said there was a very strong scent of Omega heat-cycle pheromones in the house. It’s highly likely it caused a severe rejection reaction with Lawyer Gu’s pheromones.”
Luò Pànzhī’s expression turned utterly dark. His aura was enveloped in a chilling gloom, radiating a stern intensity that made people fear looking at him.
He had suspected something was wrong with Sòng Yínlíng last time.
So, was this a deliberate attempt to lure Gu Yuxī? And when it resulted in an accident, they fled out of guilt?!
The anger boiling in his chest, fueled by the thought of Gu Yuxī being in the hospital after an incident, was suffocatingly immense. He said with a cold, severe face: “Get Sòng Yínlíng to the hospital for me. Now, immediately!”
Dare to touch his person?
Someone dared to hurt the man he couldn’t even bear to touch?
Luò Pànzhī strode quickly toward the exit, his eyes completely consumed by a predatory ferocity.
