A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 23
Light streamed into the room, falling upon the large bed.
Gu Yuxī (also spelled Gu Yuxi) opened his eyes and gazed at the ceiling. The moment he woke up, he subconsciously felt the spot next to him on the bed. There was no warmth; it was cool. Luò Pànzhī (also spelled Luo Panzhi) had actually left after he fell asleep last night.
An indescribable sense of disappointment rose in his heart.
However, last night was the first time he had slept so comfortably. Remarkably, he hadn’t dreamt at all and had slept straight until dawn.
He picked up his phone from the bedside table and saw it was six o’clock. He usually got up at six-thirty, so he was only half an hour early, which was perfect for a run.
After washing up and changing into his workout clothes, he went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water before heading out. That’s when he noticed the light on the rice cooker and a sticky note attached next to it.
The handwriting on the note was sharp, yet it contained very thoughtful words and a cute emoji:
My dear Lawyer Gu, this is the stomach-warming porridge I timed for you. Remember to drink it! (#^.^#) — Boss Luò
He took down the sticky note, looked at the adorable little face, and gently rubbed his finger over the character for Luò. A smile appeared in his eyes.
He then carefully folded the note and tucked it into his pocket.
Sìjì Bàn dǎo (Four Seasons Peninsula) has a massive ecological park, which is where Gu Yuxī did his morning runs every day.
While Gu Yuxī was jogging, he ran into a young man whom he found somewhat familiar, so he looked again.
“Hey, aren’t you the one from the elevator at Ruixing Hospital yesterday?” The young man was clearly a naturally outgoing person and actively greeted Gu Yuxī when he saw him: “I think my brother and I saw you in the elevator yesterday, right?”
When Gu Yuxī heard the young man say this, he knew it was him. It seemed they were the ones he had encountered in the elevator, the two who had coincidentally blocked the hand reaching out to him and stood in front of that person.
He felt a sense of closeness to this person who had unintentionally helped him. He smiled and nodded: “Yes, that’s right.”
The young man was clearly surprised that Gu Yuxī had smiled. He was momentarily stunned, then pretended to cough due to a sore throat, shifting his gaze: “Well, I need to continue running. I’ll be off now.”
This is the Boss’s man. See no evil, look away!
Gu Yuxī didn’t pay attention to the expression on the man’s face and continued his run.
He didn’t walk slowly back home until around seven o’clock.
It was easy to sweat in the summer, and after jogging for about forty minutes, his workout clothes were nearly soaked. It was time to head back, take a shower, and go to work. Feeling more energized today, he should be able to organize the case materials again.
He also needed to visit Miss Sòng Yínlíng (also spelled Song Yinling).
As he walked back to his building, he suddenly glimpsed a familiar black Maybach approaching in the distance. Without his glasses, he squinted and stared for a moment. Isn’t that Luò Pànzhī’s car?
The car stopped right next to him, and the Maybach’s window slowly rolled down.
The person in the driver’s seat was Luò Pànzhī, wearing sunglasses and a sapphire-blue casual suit. Deviating from his usual silver-grey, today he looked particularly relaxed and languid in sapphire-blue.
Luò Pànzhī steered the wheel with one hand, took off his sunglasses with the other, rested his elbow on the car window, and looked up at Gu Yuxī, whose face was flushed from exercise and sweat. He also noted his sweat-soaked white T-shirt:
“Lawyer Gu, good morning.”
“Why are you here?” Gu Yuxī was a little surprised that Luò Pànzhī had come to his place and even more surprised that they ran into each other exactly at this moment.
His gaze fell upon Luò Pànzhī in the casual suit. His Adam’s apple bobbed.
And he was dressed so handsomely.
“Isn’t your car at the Group? I came to give you a ride to work, so you won’t have to take a taxi.” Luò Pànzhī parked the car on the side, opened the door, got out, locked the car, and then walked up to Gu Yuxī: “Did you wake up hungry in the middle of the night? I cooked you some porridge.”
His eyes involuntarily drifted to Gu Yuxī’s sweaty neck.
The pale, slender neck, glistening with sweat, revealed a healthy crimson flush. Up close, he could feel the residual heat from the exercise—truly a disciplined man.
“No, I didn’t wake up, and I’m not hungry.” As soon as Gu Yuxī finished speaking, he felt a hand gently wipe the side of his neck with its back, causing him to pause.
“You’ve worked up a lot of sweat. Very healthy.”
Gu Yuxī turned his head to meet the smiling Luò Pànzhī. He was already handsome, and with a smile, he was even more dazzling. So, was he preparing to be flirtatious with him this early in the morning?
Last night, he used the apron to tempt him, played a few misleading moves, and then left while he was asleep. Gu Yuxī held a grudge.
He didn’t answer and walked straight into the building.
Luò Pànzhī smiled and followed.
When Gu Yuxī reached his door, he saw the young man he had run into at the park earlier walking towards him. He was a bit surprised: “You live on this floor too?”
Luò Pànzhī glanced at Gu Yuxī, then at the young man, narrowing his eyes in a look full of warning, as if saying, ‘How dare you know my wife? Did you approach him, or did he approach you? Prepare to pack up and leave.’
The young man felt a chill run down his spine from his Boss’s gaze. He truly was dedicated to his job and hadn’t done anything, but it seemed he was the one who initiated the greeting this morning.
Oh dear.
The young man immediately turned his back, quickly unlocking his door with his fingerprint, clearly afraid that the ferocious beast behind him would swallow him whole: “Yes, yes, I live on this floor too. What a coincidence.”
After saying that, he went inside and shut the door with a ‘thud.’
The entire exchange took less than three seconds.
Gu Yuxī: “…”
Luò Pànzhī saw Gu Yuxī still staring at the bodyguard, and a wave of jealousy and annoyance surged within him. He reached out and turned Gu Yuxī’s face back to him: “Why are you staring at other men? Is he good-looking?”
It seems I can’t hire a bodyguard with decent features; they must be ugly.
Gu Yuxī was confused by Luò Pànzhī’s action. He glanced at him, and after a moment, used his fingerprint to unlock the door and walked into the entryway: “I saw that person at the hospital. He helped block the space between Mò Wénbīn and me, so I remember him.”
He was also very grateful.
“I’m jealous.”
Gu Yuxī was bending over to take off his slippers when he saw Luò Pànzhī get to them faster, placing them in front of him. Luò Pànzhī then crouched down, resting his arms on his knees, and looked up at him, like a large, wronged puppy gazing up, begging to be comforted. Gu Yuxī paused in the act of removing his shoes.
“…What?”
“I said I’m jealous. I don’t like you staring at other men,” Luò Pànzhī stared at the wide neckline of Gu Yuxī’s T-shirt as he bent over, where sweat was trickling down his neck into his collar: “So, when are you going to break up with your ‘boyfriend’?”
Gu Yuxī watched him for two seconds, then couldn’t help but laugh out loud: “Little Boss Luò, what kind of nonsense are you pulling this early in the morning?” He laughed, turned, and bent over to take off his shoes.
“Nonsense?” Luò Pànzhī slowly stood up. His gaze was fixed on Gu Yuxī’s waist, which was outlined by his sweat-drenched T-shirt as he bent over, and the curve that extended downward from his waistline. He leaned closer to him: “You haven’t seen me be truly nonsensical. I wasn’t joking when I said I’d ‘steal love and be a bad person’ (a Chinese idiom for ruthlessly taking another’s lover).”
Before Gu Yuxī could take off his shoes, he felt a large hand grasp his waist. The slight force of the grip felt like Luò Pànzhī’s conveyed jealousy. This unprovoked jealousy made him want to laugh. Was he so easily jealous?
He turned his head and met Luò Pànzhī’s deep, intense gaze, then turned to face him, leaning closer: “I’m very curious about what your version of ‘stealing love and being a bad person’ looks like.”
He knew in his heart that Luò Pànzhī wouldn’t actually do that, as that wasn’t his character. However, since the man kept talking about it, it made him very curious. What level of provocation would it take to break the composure of this skillful flirt?
Would it be if he got even closer?
Or perhaps a direct, unambiguous enticement.
Having just exercised, Gu Yuxī was radiating heat. The exposed skin of his arms from the white T-shirt was pale and cold, covered in a thin layer of sweat. The sweat-soaked white T-shirt beautifully outlined the tight, gorgeous lines of his chest and abdomen. Even the sweat dripping from his hair seemed incredibly alluring.
No matter what, this was an Alpha, and the pheromones he exuded were naturally more intense than an Omega’s.
“Is it like this?” Gu Yuxī moved closer to Luò Pànzhī, stepping on his expensive leather shoes with his white trainers, locking eyes with Luò Pànzhī’s heated gaze: “Do I need to provoke you?”
In the entryway, the suited man and the man in athletic wear stood in a silent confrontation, with currents surging beneath the surface.
The ambiguous distance between them, which had been on and off, seemed to have been completely shattered yesterday.
All that remained was to see who would admit it first.
Luò Pànzhī felt the weight of the sneaker on his leather shoe but didn’t mind. What truly stirred him was the look in Gu Yuxī’s eyes, which was no longer evasive. It seemed his enticement yesterday had been somewhat effective. He wanted to see how long it would take for this man to give in.
But he had underestimated Gu Yuxī.
And overestimated his own self-control.
“What if it’s like this?”
When he saw Gu Yuxī, standing so close, lift his arms and pull the T-shirt off his body, his exposed, cold, bare skin met Luò Pànzhī’s gaze. He felt his sanity and nerves harshly triggered.
Gu Yuxī casually tossed the white T-shirt onto the floor. He looked at Luò Pànzhī, who was silent but staring intensely at him, and laughed: “Little Boss Luò, you’re quite good at holding back.”
The very next second after he spoke, Luò Pànzhī cupped the back of his neck, and his breath was swallowed in a kiss.
Gu Yuxī’s pupils contracted slightly.
Luò Pànzhī kissed Gu Yuxī forcefully and possessively, relentlessly closing the distance, almost with a sense of plunder. He gave him no space to retreat, nor did he want him to retreat.
At this moment, neither of them was in the mood to consider other issues. When emotions surge, people often throw everything else aside and focus on enjoying the moment.
It took Gu Yuxī only three seconds to go from astonishment to complete surrender, though he made a token attempt to struggle free from the embrace.
In the end, he was held tightly by Luò Pànzhī’s powerful grip on his waist, making escape impossible.
The sneaker remained planted on the expensive leather shoe, marking the end of the shoe’s owner’s self-restraint.
“Alright, I need to take a shower.” Gu Yuxī felt breathless from the kiss. He turned his face away, signaling Luò Pànzhī to release him, then stepped off the leather shoe and glanced at the soiled surface: “I got your shoe dirty.”
Luò Pànzhī contentedly stroked his lips, smiled, and looked at Gu Yuxī: “It doesn’t matter. If anyone asks, I’ll say Lawyer Gu stepped on it, but no one will dare to ask.”
Gu Yuxī gave him a wordless look, took off his trainers, and walked towards the bathroom: “I’m going to see Miss Sòng today. I just wanted to let you know.”
Luò Pànzhī bent down to pick up the T-shirt Gu Yuxī had thrown aside: “You’re in such a rush to report your itinerary to your husband?”
Gu Yuxī rested his hand on the bathroom doorframe, turned to look at Luò Pànzhī, and smiled faintly: “Little Boss Luò, I haven’t ‘broken up’ yet.”
“Wow, what a scumbag,” Luò Pànzhī tossed the T-shirt into the laundry basket on the balcony, then walked into the kitchen to check on the timed porridge: “We’ve kissed and we’ve hugged, and you won’t even give me a title, Lawyer Gu. Do you have the heart for that?”
“Yes, I do,” Gu Yuxī laughed and walked into the bathroom, closing the door.
Luò Pànzhī looked up from the kitchen at the closed bathroom door in the distance, then lowered his head and smiled: “So wicked.”
But he absolutely loved it.
And he loved it immensely.
