A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 16
Gu Yu Xi had never experienced such a taste of anxiety and the fear of loss. This current predicament was his own making, and if Luo Pan Zhi was angry, he deserved it.
They were both adults; they knew exactly what they were doing.
He pushed open his office door but stopped at the threshold, not entering. He stared silently at the source of his sin—the window hidden by the blinds—and slowly clenched the hands hanging at his sides.
If he hadn’t been so greedy, watching Luo Pan Zhi every day. If he hadn’t succumbed to temptation, wanting to get closer the moment he smelled Luo Pan Zhi’s pheromones. If…
If, if, if… there are no such things as so many ifs.
Before he could properly think things through, he decided that from this moment on, he wouldn’t allow himself to casually approach Luo Pan Zhi again. He and Luo Pan Zhi were a superior-subordinate relationship, a relationship that wasn’t even close to being friends.
Gu Yu Xi expressionlessly put his hand on his suit jacket and undid the buttons. This suit carried Luo Pan Zhi’s scent and couldn’t be worn. He also wouldn’t open those blinds again. He wouldn’t spy on Luo Pan Zhi anymore; he couldn’t continue like this.
He couldn’t carelessly provoke Luo Pan Zhi again.
He knew the consequences would be unimaginable.
If he allowed himself to continue, if they truly became involved, and if he suddenly realized that his feelings for Luo Pan Zhi were only due to pheromones, he would hurt Luo Pan Zhi.
He couldn’t do that.
He unbuttoned the suit jacket one by one and slipped it off, only to catch a faint scent of Oolong Brandy pheromones emanating from the silver-grey fabric as he turned his head. Though faint enough that he had to lean in to smell it, he clearly detected it.
Because he had worn Luo Pan Zhi’s suit jacket, even his own body now carried Luo Pan Zhi’s scent.
Gu Yu Xi’s face darkened. His tightly pressed lips accentuated his tense jawline, revealing a barely concealed anxiety and irritation.
He gripped the suit jacket so tightly his body was almost trembling. He felt trapped in an inescapable loop, obsessing over the problem, desperate to escape the addictive hold that Luo Pan Zhi’s pheromones had on him.
Finally, as if making a firm decision, he turned, holding the suit jacket, and headed toward Luo Pan Zhi’s office.
“Attorney Gu?” The secretary, who was streaming a show during lunch break, immediately paused it and stood up when she saw Attorney Gu walk in. “Little CEO Luo hasn’t returned yet. Is it urgent?”
Gu Yu Xi had originally planned to say he just wanted to return the jacket to Luo Pan Zhi, but he felt that wouldn’t sound right. If he were to return it, he should have stripped off his entire suit and had it cleaned first.
He didn’t know if his own clothes were still in Luo Pan Zhi’s office.
He said calmly: “Little CEO Luo asked me to fetch a document.”
“Oh, oh.” The secretary nodded, suspecting nothing.
Gu Yu Xi gave a small, polite nod, then pushed open the door and entered Luo Pan Zhi’s office.
Luo Pan Zhi’s office was large and brightly lit. Even though it was the CEO’s office, there were traces of Luo Pan Zhi’s age everywhere. For example, the limited edition Lego set on top of the bookshelf and the miniature F1 race track with remote-controlled cars next to the floor-to-ceiling window.
These contrasted sharply with the other side of the room, dedicated to Luo Pan Zhi’s personal accolades and scientific achievements.
He paused in front of the awards cabinet, looking at the National Science and Technology Progress Award certificate inside.
The BO Sex Agent had gone through two phases in its development: the initial BO Sex Agent and the upgraded BO Sex Agent+. The upgrade mainly addressed the problem of an overly long reaction period in some people after injection. Luo Pan Zhi had completed the perfection and enhancement of this BO Sex Agent before graduating with his master’s degree.
He had even won one of the Top Ten Scientific Achievements that year.
At just 23 years old, Luo Pan Zhi had once again broken the record for the youngest project participant in the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
Yet, this young Alpha carried unimaginable pressure: the pressure of the Galaxy Group and the pressure of the Galaxy Research Institute. The sense of security and internalized composure that emanated from him was entirely forged by these pressures, making him feel like a copper wall and an iron fortress, and making his pheromones smell the same way.
Gentle and infinitely secure.
Making one want to…
The moment Gu Yu Xi realized what he was doing, his hand was already resting on the glass cabinet door, as if caressing something through it. He quickly pulled his hand back, collected his thoughts, and looked down to hide the panic in his eyes.
He was filled with self-reproach. Didn’t I tell myself not to think about Luo Pan Zhi anymore?
Why did everything he saw of Luo Pan Zhi remind him of the person?
He was truly going mad.
Gu Yu Xi took a deep breath to stabilize his emotions, then walked into Luo Pan Zhi’s lounge. But the moment he pushed the door open, the lingering scent of two Alpha pheromones hung heavy in the room, as if they had been quietly intertwined for hours.
He stared blankly at the large bed not far away. The sheets were messy, having not been tidied, and he felt a sudden rush of memory.
“Luo Pan Zhi, hold me.”
“Luo Pan Zhi, please, give it to me.”
“Luo Pan Zhi, you smell so good, I love it.”
The kiss started with his own chaotic pursuit, turning into Luo Pan Zhi’s gentle entanglement. He had been out of his mind when he clung to Luo Pan Zhi, but Luo Pan Zhi hadn’t coldly pushed him away. Instead, he had patiently given him everything he desired, every request.
His heart suddenly raced.
His pulse was so fast.
Just as he uncontrollably started to step forward, a low voice suddenly came from behind him:
“Attorney Gu, what are you doing?”
Gu Yu Xi’s body froze instantly, his pupils contracting slightly. It was as if he had been caught by the owner doing something shameful. His heartbeat accelerated further, pounding fiercely in his chest. He licked his slightly dry lips, then slowly turned around.
It was Luo Pan Zhi.
Perhaps feeling warm, Luo Pan Zhi had his suit jacket draped over his arm, his shirt slightly unbuttoned, and his other hand casually tucked into his pocket.
He watched Gu Yu Xi, who had been standing in front of his office lounge for quite a while, clearly catching the flash of panic and confusion on the man’s face when he turned around, as if he had been doing something unspeakable.
He hadn’t initially thought much of it, assuming Attorney Gu was just standing there for some unknown reason, but after five minutes of him being completely motionless, he couldn’t resist calling out.
He hadn’t expected such an expression when the man turned around.
Is he hiding something on his conscience?
“Were you looking for me?” Luo Pan Zhi watched Gu Yu Xi with a smile. He walked up to the man: “Or are you tired and want to go inside and rest? If so, I permit it.”
Gu Yu Xi’s arm was brushed by Luo Pan Zhi’s chest. The instant the warmth transferred, he instinctively took a step back, only to see Luo Pan Zhi’s arm extend towards him.
“What are you doi—”
Before he could finish, he felt his back of the head bump into a large, supportive palm.
Luo Pan Zhi’s slightly bent arm was right next to his face. His gaze was drawn straight into Luo Pan Zhi’s deep, smiling eyes, and his mind went blank.
“Attorney Gu, be careful.” Luo Pan Zhi’s palm protected the back of Gu Yu Xi’s head from hitting the door frame corner. He gently pulled the man slightly toward him, taking in his expression completely. He slightly pursed his lips: “You almost hit the door frame.”
The force from Luo Pan Zhi’s palm made Gu Yu Xi lean forward. Just as they were about to come into intimate contact, he suddenly turned sideways, dodging Luo Pan Zhi’s protective hand and pulling back from the dangerous proximity.
His eyes flashed slightly: “I’m fine.”
Luo Pan Zhi noticed Gu Yu Xi’s overly cautious reaction, suppressing the urge to smile too widely: “Then, Attorney Gu, did you need me for something? It’s not working hours yet, so is it a personal matter?”
This man can touch me, but I can’t touch him?
As he spoke, his gaze fell on his suit jacket in Gu Yu Xi’s hand. Could he have come to return my clothes?
Well, he can’t return them now. He should at least wash them and delay the return for a couple of days. Or he doesn’t have to return them at all; maybe he needs to hold my jacket to do something.
Gu Yu Xi glanced at Luo Pan Zhi, hesitating to speak. He lifted the suit jacket in his hand about a centimeter, then quietly lowered it again. He had worn this suit, and it wouldn’t be right to return it without washing it.
He then noticed that Luo Pan Zhi seemed to be in a good mood. So, he’s not angry then?
No, I can’t care if Luo Pan Zhi is angry or not. Caring is the wrong move.
“Oh, I just wanted to ask, Little CEO Luo, when do you think is the best time to contact the legal department of Ruixing Hospital?” Gu Yu Xi forced out a very unprofessional-sounding excuse for himself, regretting it the moment he finished speaking.
He actually asked such a basic, low-level question! This was something he should be doing; why was he asking Luo Pan Zhi?
Luo Pan Zhi raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised that Gu Yu Xi would ask such a question. If it had been anyone else, he would have thrown them out without a word. Did they need to ask him before taking action on such an idiotic question? Of course, they should just go ahead and do it!
But since the person asking was Gu Yu Xi, he couldn’t bear to scold him.
He liked him too much to do that.
Luo Pan Zhi walked back to his office chair, hung his suit jacket on a nearby rack, and sat down. He clasped his hands on the desk, narrowed his eyes, and pretended to look serious and professional as he faced Gu Yu Xi at the lounge door and replied:
“Hmm, it is indeed time to contact the legal department of Ruixing Hospital. We have already obtained the most crucial evidence. Let’s see if they remain so calm twenty days from now when the autopsy results are released. Attorney Gu, that was a good question.”
Gu Yu Xi: “…” He looked at Luo Pan Zhi with slight surprise.
Luo Pan Zhi smiled gently: “Is there anything else you need to consult me about, Attorney Gu?”
“No, that’s all,” Gu Yu Xi thought, confused. Is he messing with me?
“Do you need to go in and sleep for a bit?” Luo Pan Zhi decided to start playing the role of the gentle superior from this moment on, showing meticulous care for his subordinate: “After all, you had a fever this morning and need more rest.”
Gu Yu Xi felt increasingly uneasy. What was wrong with Luo Pan Zhi? Why was he speaking to him like this?
“No need, Little CEO Luo. I feel perfectly fine now.”
Luo Pan Zhi nodded, “Hmm.” He leaned back in his chair in a relaxed posture, then glanced at the suit jacket in Gu Yu Xi’s hand: “Then Attorney Gu should put your jacket on. The air conditioning in the building is quite cold. Don’t catch a cold.”
Put the jacket on?
Gu Yu Xi thought, I just took it off with great difficulty, and now he wants me to put it back on?
Seeing Gu Yu Xi standing there in a daze, Luo Pan Zhi tapped his fingers on the desk to remind him, a subtle hint of dominance in his brow: “Put it on. Don’t get sick again. I can’t do without you.”
Gu Yu Xi looked at Luo Pan Zhi in shock.
“Put it on,” Luo Pan Zhi’s tone was neither warm nor cold, but clearly held a sense of pressure: “Or do you want me to help you put it on?” Saying that, he made a move to stand up.
Gu Yu Xi immediately put on the suit jacket, buttoning it up with a speed he never thought possible in his life.
Luo Pan Zhi slightly pursed his lips, content. He retracted his fake move, sitting back in his chair: “That’s a good boy.” He casually crossed his legs, enjoying the changing expressions on the man’s face.
Gu Yu Xi’s hand, which was adjusting the hem of the jacket, trembled upon hearing that gentle and doting tone.
…What is this guy playing at?
His heart inexplicably started to race.
