- A Charming and Cool Guy Finds Himself in a Chaotic Situation [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 24 - It Started a Long, Long Time Ago...
The Academy Tournament was underway, with the quarter-finals in progress.
The silver-white mecha’s left arm power supply was severed, and facing it was another model of the same type, slowly charging its laser cannon.
“Arena C3, Yu Mianfeng wins.”
The referee announced the result. There was almost no suspense; the winner was Yu Mianfeng.
Yu Mianfeng leaped off his mecha and offered a simple handshake to his opponent, an Alpha. This was a consistent tradition during competitions at the Capital Academy they claimed it was “friendship first” but if that were truly the case, the Capital Academy wouldn’t be so strictly hierarchical.
The Alpha who shook Yu Mianfeng’s hand was a dull, reticent person. He kept his head bowed, stealing glances at Yu Mianfeng, his face flushed red as he stammered.
Suddenly, as if summoning all his courage, the boy’s eyes became firm: “Can I have an autograph? I really admire you, and I really like you…”
Poor with words as he was, just saying this much had exhausted all his strength.
After a match ended, participants were permitted to interact freely on their respective platforms for a while. The quarter-finals weren’t as packed with people as the semi-finals, but the crowd was still significant.
Under the gaze of thousands, Yu Mianfeng pondered for a brief moment. He looked at the flushed, well-featured boy before him and fished a signature pen from his pocket.
The area near the competition platform fell silent for a beat, followed by an even more intense roar of protest.
Neither of them had paper, so Yu Mianfeng ultimately signed the Alpha’s clothing. As the pen nib slid across, he could feel the muscles tensing beneath the fabric.
Closing the pen cap amidst the Alpha’s reluctant farewells, Yu Mianfeng walked quickly down the stairs, only to find himself colliding head-on with Lu Wengang in the back area.
Lu Wengang offered a bottle of cold drinking water.
Yu Mianfeng was just about to refuse when the other man paused, as if recalling something, and unscrewed the unopened cap before offering it to him again.
…This junior is being overly attentive.
Yu Mianfeng was speechless.
However, considering the other was the younger brother of his fiancé, and Yu Mianfeng was genuinely thirsty, he eventually accepted the water, mumbled a thank you, and tipped his head back to take a few sips.
“Yu-ge is amazing; your reaction speed after the mental link is incredibly fast. I think you’ll be the champion of this tournament.”
Lu Wengang watched as Yu Mianfeng’s Adam’s apple rolled, speaking slowly.
Yu Mianfeng was squinting while drinking water. After hearing this, he lowered the bottle and tightened the cap, his heart devoid of any ripples.
That’s not necessarily true.
The villain in the plot, within this large-scale joint tournament held by the two academies, was destined to become a stepping stone for the protagonist lead and the protagonist shou.
The protagonist’s success always had to be highlighted by the villain’s failure; this seemed to be a destiny that could not be altered.
The villain, who stood in the spotlight, would be defeated in front of the military and political elite of the Capital Star by someone he had humiliated countless times. This would be unbearable for the typically arrogant villain, leading him down a radical path selling intelligence to alien races just to kill the protagonist.
Yu Mianfeng couldn’t understand such an absurd plot, and he didn’t intend to actually do any of those things. The villain described in the original plot was too different from him, like two entirely unrelated people.
Sunlight streamed through the glass, shining on the two people in the lounge. Lu Wengang stared at Yu Mianfeng’s side profile; it looked like translucent jade, emerging with layers of halos.
The person being watched seemed to be contemplating something, blanking out with an expressionless face.
Very beautiful, but he has no self-awareness.
If it weren’t for such low defenses, Yu Mianfeng wouldn’t be so easy to covet.
“Who do you think will win between the two of them, Yu-ge?” Lu Wengang asked seemingly casually.
Yu Mianfeng’s thoughts were interrupted. He came back to his senses and looked toward the arena outside the lounge glass.
Jiang Henggu was embroiled in a fierce struggle with a contestant who had reached the finals with him last year. Both sides were incredibly strong, and no one could say for sure who would emerge victorious.
This was just the round-robin quarter-final; as long as the points crossed a certain threshold, they would advance. Some people would harbor the intention of holding back, saving their true strength for the semi-finals.
Jiang Henggu and his opponent were both high enough in points that they would safely advance to the semi-finals regardless of who won this match.
Taking into account the “protagonist halo” and Jiang Henggu’s personality, Yu Mianfeng named Jiang Henggu without hesitation.
Lu Wengang wasn’t too surprised by his answer, only watching him with a playful look: “Yu-ge treats him quite differently than you treat others. I’ve heard rumors in the school…”
“Those are facts.”
Yu Mianfeng replied perfunctorily. He watched the clash of those two mechas, so bored he even yawned; he could practically predict what moves the protagonist lead would use in the next second, as he was far too familiar with him.
As for Lu Wengang’s words, Yu Mianfeng didn’t need to think to know what he was about to say. For instance, how he bullied Jiang Henggu, how arrogant and obnoxious he was, and how his reputation in the academy was poor.
There had been many people who, upon meeting Yu Mianfeng, refused to believe that someone with such a face could commit the evil deeds rumored about him, so they had come one after another to verify.
The result was self-evident; Yu Mianfeng had never thought to deny it, even taking the initiative to produce evidence, just to shatter those unrealistic fantasies others held about him.
Why would anyone like me?
Yu Mianfeng couldn’t understand.
“So, is it true that Yu-ge has been keeping the one called Jiang Henggu?” Lu Wengang suddenly threw out this question.
The sentence was cast without warning and landed in Yu Mianfeng’s ears like a bolt of lightning, instantly waking up his sleepy brain.
Yu Mianfeng doubted his ears as he recalled Lu Wengang’s words from start to finish, confirming the two protagonists of this rumor.
It was definitely him and the protagonist lead.
But he and the protagonist lead clearly only had a relationship of pure bullying or to put it more harshly, master and dog. How could it possibly lead to… nobility-tier “keeping” (sponsorship/mistress status)?
Yu Mianfeng knew this term a commoner taken into captivity by an evil noble, engaging in sexual relations with them. Some Beta nobles preferred to toy with Alphas in bed, watching them lose their minds because of their craving for pheromones, as if evolving into an Alpha was an inferior evolution.
How could Lu Wengang say such a thing and suspect their relationship?
“…Who did you hear that from?”
Yu Mianfeng calmed himself down; he just wanted to know the source of this absurd rumor immediately so he could resolve the problem at its root.
It’s too absurd.
I cannot allow this rumor to continue spreading.
It’s an existence even more bizarre than the original plot.
This rumor had come out of the mouth of his fiancé’s own younger brother, making it all the more absurd.
“You guys are always very close.”
Lu Wengang, however, didn’t answer his question, raising an eyebrow as he took out his communicator: “I’ll show you some… text. I’m very interested in the internet and have been researching related technologies. These are some things I found by accident; I’m not sure who posted them.”
Yu Mianfeng took a look.
Dark, sinister fantasies, like someone’s diary.
The power that words could convey was limited, but Yu Mianfeng felt as if he had been dealt a heavy hammer blow. That typically cold face revealed an expression of astonishment.
He tried his best to stay calm to read these words, but he became increasingly dizzy, as if he couldn’t understand the content.
And indeed, he couldn’t understand it.
He was familiar with the events recorded in the story; most were things that had happened between him and Jiang Henggu, and it was nearly impossible for a second person to have known them. Yet, in these writings, they were twisted out of shape.
It was as if they were in a relationship, a master and a slave, and the recorded words were even more explicit and brazen.
A chill crept up his spine.
Yu Mianfeng suddenly realized that a long, long time ago, Jiang Henggu had already begun to fantasize about him in secret.
