- A Charming and Cool Guy Finds Himself in a Chaotic Situation [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 22 - Stealing Affection Was Already Annoying
Yu Mianfeng had never fantasized about what his future partner might look like.
From a young age, he had displayed an astonishing interest and talent for mechas, quietly observing these inanimate machines. Later, when the System informed him that this world was merely a “predetermined plot,” he had lost all interest in interpersonal relationships entirely.
He understood that he was only going through the motions with the protagonist shou.
The two of them one was the protagonist, and the other was the villain.
He had never truly liked anyone.
Yu Mianfeng lifted his eyes, those deep blue eyes gazing at Lu Yibo’s cheeks without a ripple of emotion.
“Where are the inhibitors?” he said coldly.
He knew what the best choice was to make at a time like this.
The only sound remaining in the private room was Lu Yibo’s breathing. Before long, even that sound grew faint, eventually vanishing altogether.
The silence around them was terrifying.
Lu Yibo released his restraint on Yu Mianfeng and pulled a portable syringe from his waistband. He clenched his fist so tightly that the blue veins bulged; the silvery-white needle ejected, pierced his skin, and pushed the liquid from the tube into his body.
Yu Mianfeng brushed his own burning palms, trying to dissipate that strange, eerie illusion.
Lu Yibo tossed the empty syringe to the side and took a few steps back, leaving ample space between them. Light spilled in, and Yu Mianfeng was finally able to see the man’s expression, but in less than a second, the man lowered his head.
“I apologize. Due to certain circumstances, my aggression during the susceptibility period can be quite intense…”
Lu Yibo offered an explanation for his behavior just a moment ago, his eyes lowered and his lashes fluttering like a stone statue, rigid with guilt.
Yu Mianfeng didn’t answer. He stretched out the hand that had just been interlaced with Lu Yibo’s still flushed with heat and lifted it slightly to gently caress Lu Yibo’s cheek.
His hand was not as cold as usual, yet it was just as defined by its knuckles. It was clearly the refined hand of someone pampered and well-off, but it had faint, nearly imperceptible gun calluses; the touch felt like being lightly scratched by a kitten that hadn’t retracted its claws.
Lu Yibo lifted his palm again, seemingly wanting to touch him back, but he stopped himself instantly, instead rubbing his cheek against Yu Mianfeng’s palm.
Lu Yibo sensed that it was warm and dry, not covered by any pheromones.
Was this the same way he used his other hand to stroke another Alpha’s cheek?
Perhaps even tainted with that Alpha’s pheromones.
Only bodily fluids sweat, saliva, blood, and so on could carry pheromones of different concentrations.
Lu Yibo’s gaze flickered as he tilted his head slightly.
Just as Yu Mianfeng felt he had soothed him enough and was about to withdraw his hand, a sudden torrent of tears gushed from Lu Yibo’s eyes, sliding down the corners of his eyes.
The scorching tears were like broken pearls, dripping onto Yu Mianfeng’s fingertips, flowing into the gap between his palm and the man’s cheek wet, hot, and sticky.
Yu Mianfeng was bewildered for a split second, looking at the person weeping before him. He opened his mouth, not knowing what to say. He rarely displayed emotion himself, and his current shock was entirely genuine.
Why… why is he suddenly crying?
He was the one who had been restrained for ages.
Is this what a fragile Omega is like?
“Don’t hate me.” Lu Yibo’s voice was muffled. He raised his head, trying his best to force a smile, but it looked so tragic.
As he made this expression, his tears continued to stream down.
“Will you hate me? Will you not want to be with me, not want to marry me?”
“Don’t abandon me…”
Yu Mianfeng remained silent, the finger resting on Lu Yibo’s cheek curling slightly, offering no promises. After a moment of thought, he ultimately gave the Omega, who was taller than him, an embrace.
Lu Yibo buried his face in the crook of his neck, even closer than when he had been sniffing his scent earlier, and his tears truly spilled onto the fabric of Yu Mianfeng’s shoulder.
Yu Mianfeng felt the temperature of the cheek pressed against his neck; as skin touched skin, that unpleasant sensation spread from the bottom of his heart like a tide.
He sighed in his heart, ultimately unable to push the other man away, and only held him tighter.
“He’s pathetic.”
[…]
The System, silent for so long, offered no response.
In the end, the jacket Yu Mianfeng wore, soaked through with tears, was completely unwearable; it had obvious tear stains. Yu Mianfeng said nothing, taking the coat Lu Yibo handed him and putting it on.
After the meal, the atmosphere between them remained awkward. Finally, they walked out of the private room side by side.
Lu Yibo’s jacket was unexpectedly loose on him.
Usually, you can’t tell, but the protagonist shou’s shoulders are actually quite broad.
Yu Mianfeng straightened his back silently.
As they passed through the central hall on the first floor, Yu Mianfeng unexpectedly saw Chen Xiulan negotiating with someone near the fountain. The man pushed up his glasses, the red slap mark on his face not yet faded. The assistant beside him looked utterly confused but dared not ask what had happened.
Chen Xiulan was clutching a paper report when he suddenly seemed to sense something and looked toward him. Their gazes met in the air; Chen Xiulan’s smile deepened, and he gave a slight nod, acknowledging his presence.
Countless eyes in the hall drifted toward the slap mark on Chen Xiulan’s handsome face gossip this fresh wasn’t something you saw every day.
Yu Mianfeng ignored him, quickening his pace and standing out conspicuously among the curious onlookers.
Only after stepping out of the main entrance did Yu Mianfeng realize Lu Yibo hadn’t followed. He turned sharply to see Lu Yibo tilting his head in thought, observing Chen Xiulan’s appearance—or rather, the red mark on his face.
As he withdrew his gaze, he met Lu Yibo’s eyes again.
Yu Mianfeng wasn’t sure if Lu Yibo had noticed anything, so he looked away a bit hastily, refusing to meet his eyes.
…
It wasn’t until he caught sight of Yu Mianfeng and that Omega getting into the car that Chen Xiulan finally, and leisurely, closed the document in his hand.
“That’s about it.”
Chen Xiulan said dismissively, not listening to the rest of what the restaurant manager opposite him was about to say.
He adjusted his tie, completely indifferent to the manager’s panicked attempt to keep him, and walked toward the entrance with his assistant. Along the way, people stared at him, and Chen Xiulan returned their gaze with a smile; before long, no one dared to steal another peek.
The assistant following closely behind him was so nervous he didn’t even dare to breathe, walking with his head down and clutching the files tightly.
God knows, I’ve only been on the job a few days and I’ve already uncovered my boss’s secret.
The boss had first used the pretext of inspecting his business to get access permission for the VIP restroom from the manager, then sneaked in after a Beta had entered the two of them spent a full thirteen minutes inside!
Too bad the alloy door was too thick; I couldn’t hear a thing. The assistant thought regretfully.
Less than thirteen minutes pretty fast, huh.
When the Beta came out, the assistant hadn’t expected it and hid in a corner, terrified of being discovered. Fortunately, the handsome Beta youth hadn’t noticed his existence.
The assistant didn’t dare to eavesdrop anymore and quietly moved further away, focusing on his duty of guarding the door, terrified someone might pass by and see something they shouldn’t.
Shortly after, he received orders from the boss to fetch the spare suit from the car.
When delivering the clothing into the restroom, the assistant didn’t dare to look up, terrified of seeing something. When he turned to leave, he couldn’t resist his curiosity and stole a glance.
The boss’s suit front was covered in suspicious water stains, there was a vivid slap mark on his face, and his suit trousers were rumpled, the crease no longer distinct.
The assistant’s eyes darted wildly, and he fled in fear.
What, what, what is all this!
I personally saw that Beta enter a couple’s private room!
And they’re both married!
Is this the secret of the rich and powerful!
“It’s not exactly a secret of the rich and powerful, just that the person I love happens to be engaged to someone else.”
Chen Xiulan flipped a page of his document and said calmly.
The assistant covered his mouth, stunned, realizing he had accidentally said out loud what he was thinking.
Luckily, I only said the last part.
Wait, no.
He was so regretful he wanted to slap himself seven or eight times! Stupid mouth, bad luck!
He had openly provoked the boss right in front of his face! He had poked the boss right in the wound! He had never heard of the boss having any scandals; it seemed he was staying chaste for someone else he was secretly seeing.
Having to steal affection is already annoying enough; hearing me say that, the boss must be even more depressed.
He’d only been on the job for three days surely he wouldn’t get fired for having a loose tongue?
Just as the assistant was terrified and regretful, Chen Xiulan smoothed out the paper that had been curled by the wind and said, “It’s fine, I was always destined to be a third party who couldn’t be understood by others.”
Chen Xiulan, deep in character, recalled the look the legitimate Omega spouse had given him dark, twisted, and hostile which made him so happy he nearly couldn’t stop himself from laughing out loud.
At the time, Chen Xiulan had held it in, but now he couldn’t, letting out a soft “pfft” followed by a loud, raucous laugh, causing the driver in the front and the assistant beside him to have their pupils dilate in shock, thinking the boss had gone insane from his own self-deprecating words.
After a long while, Chen Xiulan stopped laughing and wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.
Stealing affection is really interesting.
Oh wait, it seems it’s one-sided affection.
Chen Xiulan thought with delight.
…
Inside the Yu family car.
Not long after they got in, the atmosphere inside the car was eerily quiet, despite the fact that there should have been plenty to talk about. Yu Mianfeng folded his arms and closed his eyes to rest, determined not to say another word.
The protagonist shou, however, didn’t understand the atmosphere.
Lu Yibo’s thoughtful expression had been on his face for a long time before he suddenly said: “That palm mark on the face of the man by the fountain was it strange? It looked like his wife slapped him?”
Yu Mianfeng pulled up his collar, trying to get his still-damp shirt away from his skin. He opened his eyes and looked out the window at the scenery flying by, deliberately avoiding Lu Yibo’s gaze.
“…Maybe.”
