- Chapter 93 - Grabbing Her and Giving Her a Slap
Xiaojuan Huang frantically wiped away her tears. Looking up, she immediately recognized the striking couple standing before her.
She froze. “It’s… it’s you…”
Chengfeng Gu furrowed his brows, his presence overwhelming. “Little girl, we meet again.”
Terrified, Xiaojuan Huang scrambled to get up and run, but her path was blocked by Chengfeng’s tall, handsome frame. She sank back onto the edge of the flower bed, her tears falling uncontrollably again.
“Don’t arrest me, I don’t know anything…”
Ever since she had delivered the letter for Ting Chen, she had been uneasy, feeling as though she had done something wrong. Sure enough, Ting Chen had returned to the dormitory looking dejected, and the very next day, her performances were suspended.
With Ting Chen unable to take the stage, Xiaojuan’s segments were canceled too. She was terrified, not knowing what mistake Ting Chen had made, living in constant fear that the organization would call her in for a talk. Instead of the organization, the two people involved had shown up themselves.
Sisi Shen stood frozen for a moment. She hadn’t even uttered a second word before this girl turned into a shivering quail. She glanced at Chengfeng Gu; he stood there like an immovable iceberg, radiating a powerful pressure that was impossible to ignore.
“Don’t be so stern,” Sisi whispered. “You’re scaring her.”
Chengfeng Gu rubbed his chin. Was he being stern? Sisi clearly hadn’t seen what he looked like when he was actually angry. Hearing her words, he reined in his aura, though he remained chillingly cold.
Sisi stepped in front of Chengfeng and said softly, “Little girl, stop crying…”
Comforted by her tone, Xiaojuan Huang actually cried harder. “Sister, I’m sorry! I… I didn’t know what Sister Ting wanted to do. I was just a messenger. I really don’t know anything…”
She bowed repeatedly in apology. “My family is poor. It was so hard for me to get into the Art Troupe. I can’t lose this job. Please, I beg you, don’t tell my leaders…”
The girl was like a startled bird. Before Sisi could even ask, she had blurted out everything.
“Alright. If we wanted to arrest you, would you still be sitting here peacefully?” Sisi gave her a look, her voice suddenly turning cold. “Enough. If you keep crying and draw your leaders over, then I won’t be so polite.”
“No, no, I’ll stop…” Xiaojuan Huang immediately choked back her tears. She looked around fearfully; seeing that everyone had gone to the cafeteria and it was quiet, she finally wiped her eyes in relief. “Big Brother, Big Sister… what did you come to find me for?”
Sisi Shen spoke up. “I’m looking for Ting Chen. I wanted to ask the way, but it seems I don’t need to now. She should be at the cafeteria.”
Seeing Sisi turn to leave, Xiaojuan Huang quickly pulled her back. “Sister, Sister Ting isn’t at the cafeteria.”
“Oh?” Sisi arched an eyebrow.
Xiaojuan explained, “She was suddenly pulled from all her shows. She made a huge scene in the troupe. Right now, she’s in her room, supposedly ‘reflecting’ on her actions.”
Ting Chen prided herself on being the soprano and the pillar of the Art Troupe. Having her performances canceled so abruptly had driven her nearly mad.
“Others don’t know why; they’re all guessing she committed some grave error. But I know… it must be related to you two.” Xiaojuan was timid, but she wasn’t stupid. The day she delivered the letter, Ting Chen had been called to the Director’s office, and the suspension followed the next morning.
Hearing this, Sisi Shen thought to herself that this must be the handiwork of Chengfeng Gu and Yanzhou Feng. They had taken action! But Ting Chen deserved it; someone without artistic ethics didn’t deserve to stand on a stage.
“Then, little sister, do you know where Ting Chen’s dormitory is?”
Just as Xiaojuan was about to point the way, they saw Ting Chen walking out, dressed up elaborately.
Upon seeing them, Ting Chen visibly froze, her eyes flashing with jealousy and malice. “What are you doing here?”
What were they doing here?
It was better left unsaid, but at the mention of it, Sisi was filled with rage. Without a word, she stepped forward, grabbed Ting Chen, and delivered a sharp slap.
Slap!
The sudden blow left Ting Chen’s head ringing. Before she could process what was happening, her cheek flared with burning pain. Sisi Shen seemed to have gone mad, delivering one slap after another in rapid succession, leaving Ting Chen with no room to resist.
By the time Ting Chen regained her senses and tried to strike back, Sisi had already moved behind her, grabbing a handful of her carefully curled hair.
“You don’t know why I’m here?” Sisi Shen drove her knee forward, and Ting Chen’s legs buckled, sending her kneeling onto the ground.
“Sisi Shen! What kind of madness has possessed you…” Ting Chen screamed, pinned down and unable to move.
Sisi Shen rarely resorted to physical violence—unless she couldn’t hold it back. This time, it involved Niuniu, and Sisi couldn’t tolerate a single bit of it. It was lucky Niuniu was okay; if anything had happened to her daughter, she would have flayed Ting Chen alive.
Chengfeng Gu stood to the side. Initially, he was on guard, intending to pull them apart if necessary, but he realized there was no need for him to intervene. Sisi’s movements were as smooth as flowing water; she had taken Ting Chen down in seconds.
It looks like she’s practiced, Chengfeng thought. He finally realized how Sisi had managed to subdue the likes of Xiuhong Zhang and Qiuxia Yang.
The commotion at the entrance quickly drew a crowd from the Art Troupe. Two members of the security team rushed up, but before they could intervene, they were deterred by the murderous glint in Chengfeng Gu’s eyes.
“What’s going on?” Changmei Gu pushed through the crowd.
Seeing it was Sisi Shen and Chengfeng Gu, she was about to greet them when Ting Chen wailed, “Director! Call someone to arrest her! This lunatic actually dared to hit me in public!”
Changmei Gu looked at Sisi Shen. She looked fresh and beautiful, her clothes perfectly neat. Aside from a slightly flushed face, she looked no different than usual. In contrast, Ting Chen was lying on the ground with a face swollen like a pig’s head, hair disheveled and covered in mud.
Yet, the usually gentle and ladylike Sisi Shen was currently pinning Ting Chen to the ground.
Seeing Changmei Gu had arrived, Sisi finally let go and stood up. She was about to call her “Aunt,” but Changmei shot her a look.
Changmei Gu reached out, pulled Ting Chen up from the ground, and brushed the hair out of her face. Looking at the swollen visage, even Changmei was startled. Sisi’s grip is quite something! She truly has the spirit of her sister-in-law, Chengfeng’s mother!
Ting Chen stood up and immediately clung to Changmei Gu, crying pitifully. “Director, this person hit me the moment she saw me! You have to stand up for me!”
Changmei Gu’s eyelids twitched, but her gaze deepened. “Don’t worry… I will certainly handle this for you!”
Ting Chen felt as though she had found her savior, and her arrogance instantly flared up again. She had been recruited by Changmei Gu, and Changmei had hired teachers to train her over the years. Changmei was like an elder to her; she would surely take her side!
Ting Chen thought secretly, her eyes poisoned with spite. Sisi Shen, you’re dead!
Although Changmei Gu was Chengfeng and Sisi’s aunt, this was the Troupe, and she couldn’t show blatant favoritism; she had to convince the crowd. So, she spoke with a serious expression: “What exactly happened? Both sides, tell your stories.”
Ting Chen spoke first: “Director, this woman is Sisi Shen, my cousin. The one beside her is her husband. They came to the Troupe and started beating me without rhyme or reason!”
Sisi Shen let out a cold laugh. Ting Chen actually dared to be the one to sue first?
