- A Beauty in the 80s Goes on a Blind Date with Her Child, Captivating the Military Compound
- Chapter 88 - Chengfeng Gu is Jealous!
Feeling Hua Cao’s hand trembling, Chengfeng Gu didn’t continue to make things difficult for him and released his grip at the right moment.
Hua Cao immediately shook his hand in pain, glaring at Chengfeng while baring his teeth. That man’s grip is terrifying!
Sisi Shen saw everything and her expression turned serious. “Chengfeng Gu, what are you doing?”
Chengfeng Gu withdrew his hand nonchalantly, wearing a very genial smile. “It’s nothing. I just think Mr. Cao should exercise more; his frame is more delicate than a woman’s.”
Suppressing the sharp pain in his hand, Hua Cao also pretended that nothing was wrong. “It’s not as exaggerated as your Commander Gu says, but his grip is certainly… impressive!”
Sisi Shen looked back and forth between the two men; the atmosphere felt awkward no matter how she looked at it. Chengfeng Gu was acting strange today, his words laced with barbs and his handshakes overly aggressive. Hua Cao wasn’t much better, becoming equally sarcastic.
Did these two have some past grudge?
Sisi couldn’t figure it out. she spoke a few more simple words to Hua Cao, mainly regarding the meeting with the Hong Kong merchant, asking him to handle the contact and final details.
Hua Cao listened half-heartedly. Seeing the way the man stood protectively over Sisi like she was his prize, Hua Cao felt as though a leaden cloud had settled in his chest, heavy and dull.
“Alright, I understand. Leave it to me!”
Only then did Sisi feel relieved enough to wave goodbye. “Then Chengfeng and I will head back first…”
She instinctively took Chengfeng Gu’s arm, only to find the man beside her standing as stiff as a board. The low pressure radiating from him was impossible to ignore.
“What’s wrong?” Sisi looked up, seeing his well-defined jawline covered in a layer of frost.
“You were in danger before?” Chengfeng Gu asked in a low, heavy voice.
Sisi nodded and told Chengfeng the whole story of the ferry incident. “It was a close call. Thanks to Brother Hua’s quick reflexes, he pulled me back. Otherwise, I would have fallen into the river.”
Chengfeng Gu’s lips pressed into a thin line. He hadn’t realized so much had happened to Sisi.
“In the future, ensure your own safety before considering helping others, understand?” Chengfeng said, his voice trembling slightly from the lingering shock of the “what if.”
Sisi nodded obediently. “I understand.”
Noticing that Chengfeng’s body was still rigid and he seemed preoccupied, she spoke up: “So… are you unhappy because of that?”
Chengfeng Gu pointedly turned his head away so she couldn’t see the subtle emotions on his face. “No. I’m not unhappy…”
That low, grumbling voice was practically dripping with resentment and sulking. And he says he isn’t unhappy?
It was the first time Sisi had seen Chengfeng Gu like this. Her interest piqued, she clung to his arm and craned her neck to look at him. “Really? Then why do I feel like your face is so dark?”
He was even acting hostile toward Hua Cao, looking at him as if he were a class enemy.
“No, you’re mistaken.”
“Is that so? Fine then, you go back first. I have some other things to discuss with Brother Hua…” Sisi feigned a turn to leave, but as soon as she moved, a powerful force locked her in place.
“Come back!!!” Chengfeng panicked. He grabbed Sisi’s arm, but then, fearing he might hurt her, he didn’t dare use full strength. His entire face flushed deep red from anxiety, and his nervous expression was caught clearly by Sisi.
Sisi Shen smiled—a look like a little fox whose scheme had succeeded. “Chengfeng Gu, you wouldn’t happen to be jealous, would you?”
Chengfeng Gu stiffened his neck. He hadn’t expected to fall for the little girl’s trap. His blood was simmering; hearing her call the other man “Brother Hua” over and over again made his heart feel incredibly stifled.
“How long have you even known him to be calling him ‘Brother Hua’?” Chengfeng’s eyes smoldered with anger.
He was usually steady and composed, rarely losing his temper. Now, however, his face was grim and his eyes were like cold ice. Sisi gave a small shiver; it seemed Chengfeng really cared…
“I haven’t known him long, but I know he’s a kind and loyal person.”
Chengfeng Gu puffed out his cheeks, his expression growing even darker. “We’ve known each other for so many years, yet you’ve never called me ‘Brother’ once, but you call him that?”
Sisi’s vision was completely occupied by his brooding face. She blinked several times.
So, that’s what Chengfeng Gu is mad about.
Just because she called Hua Cao “Brother Hua” but never called him “Brother.” The more Sisi thought about it, the funnier it became. She couldn’t help but let out a secret giggle. “Chengfeng Gu, and you still say you aren’t jealous.”
“I’m not! Why would I be jealous?”
Sisi looped her arm firmly through his, her large, beautiful eyes curving into crescents as she teased him, swaying playfully in his line of sight. “Then… from now on, I’ll call you ‘Brother’ too, okay? Brother Feng? Brother Chengfeng?”
The anger on Chengfeng’s face was instantly replaced by a scorching heat. He turned his head away awkwardly. “Whatever you want.”
Sisi was like a colorful butterfly, bouncing around him as they walked, her body occasionally brushing against his arm. Every time they touched, Chengfeng would pause for a beat, the red flush spreading from the tips of his ears all the way down his neck.
“Brother Feng… shouldn’t you be at the military camp today? Why did you show up so suddenly?” Sisi’s voice was so sweet it made his teeth ache.
“It wouldn’t happen to be for me, would it?” Sisi asked half-jokingly.
Chengfeng Gu kept his face stiffly averted, his lips a straight line. “A temporary mission came up. It was just a coincidence.”
“Oh.” A flicker of disappointment crossed her heart, though it vanished quickly. “I thought you came specifically for me. I ran into some trouble at the docks today, but luckily, Brother Hua settled it for me.”
She continued, “Fortunately, I still made the sale. It seems my medicinal oil is very popular; I took over eighty more orders today.”
At the mention of “Brother Hua,” Chengfeng’s pace quickened, and he kicked a stone on the ground with unnecessary force. However, at the same time, he felt happy for Sisi. He knew her resilience—she could succeed at anything she set her mind to.
Hearing that Sisi had earned 71 yuan from this single batch, Chengfeng cast an incredulous look at her. “It seems small businesses really can make big money.”
At her current rate of earning, she would soon exceed his monthly military allowance.
“Exactly. Next is setting up the oil factory.” The thought of the coming days made Sisi’s blood boil with excitement.
Chengfeng Gu spoke up then: “The person I found for you will arrive tomorrow morning. I’ll take you and that Boss Zhang to complete the paperwork then. We should also get your industrial and commercial business license processed to prevent anyone from using that against you.”
Sisi had already thought of everything he mentioned; she had to have all her paperwork in order. Not only for the factory but also for her formula—she needed an authoritative institution to certify it. Today’s encounter with Manager Yang of Rongchun Hall was a wake-up call to be vigilant.
But currently, the market had only just opened up; many testing agencies hadn’t been established yet. She didn’t know which agency she should send her oil to for testing. She began to frown again in thought. These matters all had to be put on the schedule, or there would be endless trouble later.
The two walked on, lost in their own thoughts and falling into silence. Just as they reached home, they heard Hongying Xu shouting at the top of her lungs.
“Niuniu! Niuniu!”
“Where are you? Answer your Grandma!”
“Don’t scare Grandma like this…”
Sisi Shen’s heart plummeted instantly. She suddenly had a very bad feeling…
