- A Beauty in the 80s Goes on a Blind Date with Her Child, Captivating the Military Compound
- Chapter 46 - Hugging and Snuggling
Shen Sisi feigned sleep with her eyes closed. Suddenly, the quilt rose high as the bed beside her sank. The wooden bedframe let out a sharp creak. She instinctively tensed, curling herself into a tiny ball.
Three people were now squeezed into a five-foot-wide bed.
A tiny gap remained between Shen Sisi and Gu Chengfeng, but the distance was practically non-existent. A wave of heat radiated from Gu Chengfeng—he felt like a giant furnace. How can a man’s body be this hot?
Shen Sisi had always suffered from a “cold” constitution; in winter, her feet were perpetually icy. Sensing that steady source of warmth, she fought the urge to move her feet toward him.
Gu Chengfeng’s ears twitched at the faint rustling of the quilt. In the quiet of the night, every tiny movement was amplified. Sensing her discomfort, he moved another inch toward the edge of the bed, leaving half his shoulder almost hanging off.
“Go to sleep. I won’t touch you…”
Of course, he thought, you can touch me all you like.
Shen Sisi murmured back, “Mmh, let’s sleep. And… I’m a very quiet sleeper, you don’t have to stay so far away.”
“Alright,” Gu Chengfeng replied, his voice deep.
The two remained stiff and unmoving. After an unknown amount of time, Shen Sisi finally succumbed to exhaustion and closed her eyes. Her shallow breathing filled the pitch-black room. Gu Chengfeng couldn’t ignore it even if he tried; he endured the torment for a long time before finally drifting off.
No sooner had he fallen asleep than the person beside him began to act up.
A pair of icy-cold little feet suddenly pressed against him. Gu Chengfeng’s entire body went rigid, the chill jolting him wide awake. He felt those small, soft feet burrowing straight toward his stomach. He didn’t dare move. In his twenty-plus years, he had never been this intimate with a woman. How are her bones so soft? Even the soles of her feet feel so smooth.
Gu Chengfeng exhaled slowly, his body temperature—which had just begun to drop—skyrocketing once more. He had promised not to touch her, and he hadn’t broken his word; it was Shen Sisi who touched him first…
And why are her feet so cold?
He turned his body very gently, his large hands grasping her ankles and tucking them against his firm abdominal muscles to warm them. Shen Sisi, completely unaware, felt a massive, scorching furnace beside her that was only getting hotter. She kept drawing closer to the “furnace,” wriggling like a little caterpillar, constantly nuzzling and snuggling against him.
So warm… so comfortable…
Gu Chengfeng was in agony but didn’t know what to do. In the darkness, a leg hooked over his. He felt like he was about to catch fire, and his body was gradually slipping from his control…
Shen Sisi slept incredibly well that night, dreaming entirely of that vigorous “furnace.” She woke up as the familiar morning bugle sounded from outside, only to realize her posture was quite strange.
She was face-down, sprawled across Gu Chengfeng’s legs!
As soon as she moved, Gu Chengfeng recoiled. His face was flushed red, and dark circles hung under his eyes—it was obvious he hadn’t slept all night. After a long moment, his exhausted voice reached her ears.
“You’re awake…”
His legs were completely numb. He had endured a whole night of exquisite torture.
Shen Sisi’s eyes went wide. It took her several seconds to regain her senses and scramble off him. What did I do to him last night? She had boasted about being a quiet sleeper, and now she had been slapped in the face by reality. Being pinned down like that, he must not have slept a wink!
“I’m sorry! I… I didn’t do it on purpose…”
Gu Chengfeng’s neck turned red. Luckily, it wasn’t fully light yet, so she couldn’t see his expression clearly. “Are you always this cold?”
Realizing the implication, Shen Sisi’s face burned. She dove back under the covers and mumbled, “It’s alright. I’m used to it…”
Gu Chengfeng looked thoughtful. Seeing the time, he got out of bed, his body still stiff, and let out a low cough. “I’m heading to the barracks. If she dares to bully you, come find me.”
Only then did Shen Sisi peek out with her large eyes. Her gaze was instinctively drawn to his broad back. “Okay…” she whispered.
When he left, his gait was strange—awkward and stilted. His legs were likely still numb from being her “pillow.”
Shen Sisi was alone in the quilt, processing her embarrassment, when a loud, shrill voice rang out from the doorway.
“What time is it and you’re still not up? What kind of wife is as lazy as you? My son goes to work without even a hot meal to eat!”
Xu Hongying slept early and woke early. Seeing Shen Sisi still in bed, her temper flared. “When I got married, I was up at four in the morning to make breakfast and serve my parents-in-law and the whole family. Not like a lazy woman like you!”
Frowning at the early morning screeching, Shen Sisi retorted, “Auntie, was your life really that miserable back then? Having to take care of everyone before dawn?”
“You—!” Xu Hongying’s nostrils flared as she huffed. “Don’t you talk back to me! Get up and make breakfast!”
Shen Sisi glanced at the sky outside. “It’s still early. I’ll cook when Niuniu wakes up, otherwise the food will be cold…”
“You lazy woman, are you trying to starve me to death?”
“Auntie, how can you say that? You have hands and feet, and you said yourself you used to take care of a whole family. There’s rice, flour, eggs, and meat in the kitchen. If you’re hungry, make something yourself. You won’t starve.”
Xu Hongying wasn’t starving, but she was nearly dying of rage. She couldn’t believe Shen Sisi dared to show her such an attitude. “Fine! You just wait. I’ll let the whole compound see what kind of woman my son married—one who won’t cook for her elders and dares to be unfilial!”
As Xu Hongying turned to leave, a lazy, unhurried voice drifted from behind her.
“My reputation is already notorious; one more charge of being ‘unfilial’ won’t change much. But Chengfeng was just promoted. If you go out and make a scene that gets him disciplined, he might just send you back to Kyoto tonight…”
The words were soft, yet they struck Xu Hongying’s weakness perfectly. She froze, her reason gradually overcoming her anger.
She turned back. “I see! With my son gone, you aren’t even pretending anymore! Qiuxia was right—you really are a two-faced woman!”
Shen Sisi raised an eyebrow. It seemed Yang Qiuxia was still stirring up trouble. “No matter how bad I am, I don’t speak ill of people behind their backs; I usually say it to their faces. As for who is truly two-faced, that person knows in her heart.”
When Gu Chengfeng was home, Sisi had restrained herself out of respect for his mother. But she was no “soft persimmon” to be squashed!
“I’ll settle the score with Yang Qiuxia myself. But Auntie, let me give you a piece of advice: stay away from villains like her.”
Xu Hongying laughed as if she’d heard a joke. “Qiuxia and I are from the same hometown. Don’t I know what kind of person she is? It’s you! What will it take for you to divorce my son?”
Divorce? In your dreams.
In her contract marriage with Gu Chengfeng, there was only one condition for divorce: when he was “cured.” Once he recovered his “manly prowess,” she would initiate the divorce to give him his freedom. Shen Sisi had no intention of repeating Xu Hongying’s mistakes in a loveless marriage.
Just as she was about to speak, Xu Hongying pointed a finger at her nose. “Chengfeng is young, promising, and has a bright future. You and that ‘drag-along’ child are no help to his career; you’ll only pull him down!”
Shen Sisi clenched her fists. This was the very reason she had hesitated before. However, she would find a way to prove herself and make her business flourish so she would never be a burden to him.
Xu Hongying’s throat was dry from shouting, yet Shen Sisi remained unmoved. In desperation, she blurted out, “I’ll tell you the truth—Chengfeng already has someone in his heart! A neighbor from Kyoto, his childhood sweetheart. She’s a university student, not someone a ‘pheasant’ like you can compare to…”
Shen Sisi’s heart gave a sudden, sharp throb. If Gu Chengfeng hadn’t been injured, they probably would have been together by now.
Seeing Xu Hongying acting so aggressively to force a divorce, a thought occurred to Sisi. Does this old lady actually not know that Gu Chengfeng is injured?
