A Bad-Hearted Doctor is Unbearably Beautiful - Chapter 31
Shen City Public Security Bureau
“Well?!” Lu Xiao rushed over to Zhang Zhen the moment he walked in.
“Found him. Li Tiangui, from Nanqiao Village, Dongxi Town. He’s 46. This is his photo.” Zhang Zhen enlarged the photo of Li Tiangui. Lu Xiao pushed his sunglasses up onto his head and studied it carefully.
“It really looks like him, except for the scar on his face.”
“This guy… has a lot of problems.”
“How so?”
“I talked to the local police. When Li Tiangui was younger, he was involved in selling blood and organ trafficking in his village. But in those years, the local administration was a mess, and with the local protection and other chaotic issues, Li Tiangui got away.”
“What about Zhang Dalong?”
“The police said they knew Zhang Dalong and Li Tiangui had a relationship, but all the financial records from back then were with Li Tiangui. Zhang Dalong’s record is clean, and there’s no evidence to be found.”
“Did Li Tiangui… leave any DNA or fingerprints behind?”
Zhang Zhen shook his head helplessly. “No.”
Lu Xiao sighed. “This Li Tiangui is something else.”
With his connections in the black market, it was easy for Li Tiangui to forge an identity. After doing that for so many years, he just changed his name and face, and now he can live a new life?
“It’s likely that both Zhang Dalong and Li Tiangui have dirty hands, but Zhang Dalong was smarter. He started a company and completely cleared his name.”
What Chen Qiang was looking for all this time and why he wanted to kill Zhang Dalong—the answer was likely in the USB drive that Zhang Dalong sent away at the last minute.
Lu Xiao had a plan. “Lin Xue, go talk to the boss and get a search warrant. Take a few people to Chen Qiang’s house. Don’t miss a single corner. Collect samples carefully! I don’t believe that these two were tied up by Chen Qiang and managed to survive for nearly three days. Living people always leave traces behind.”
“Let’s go, Old Zhou. It’s time to meet this ‘new and improved’ Chen Qiang.”
Interrogation Room
Chen Qiang sat on one side of the interrogation room, his hands cuffed behind the chair. An indifferent expression was on his face, his eyes devoid of emotion.
Lu Xiao entered the room with a stack of documents, his arms crossed over his chest.
“Spit it out,” Chen Qiang said with a look of contempt.
Lu Xiao chuckled. “You’ve got a lot of nerve. Tell me, why did you go to the medical center?”
“I was just passing by. What’s wrong with that?”
“Passing by? People who are just ‘passing by’ have a key with them?” Lu Xiao felt like he had just heard a joke.
“I found it. What’s it to you?”
Lu Xiao nodded, putting his foot on a stool. He said teasingly, “Fine. You were passing by. Did you see what you were looking for?”
Chen Qiang glanced to the left and said nothing.
“Alright, second question. Why did you go to the hospital to find Song the Third that day?”
Chen Qiang remained silent.
“Buddy! I’m telling you, I don’t have time to waste on you! Do you really want me to shove all the evidence in your face, one by one, for you to be satisfied?” Lu Xiao yelled.
Chen Qiang looked up at Lu Xiao and sneered. “What evidence? All you have is proof that I was carrying a gun. Do you have anything else?”
Lu Xiao raised an eyebrow and gave a look to Old Zhou. Old Zhou pulled out a few printed screenshots of Chen Qiang driving into and out of Zhang Dalong’s apartment complex.
“Tell me, what did you go to Zhang Dalong’s place for?”
Chen Qiang looked puzzled. “Zhang Dalong? I don’t know him. I like the landscaping in that community. What’s wrong with going in and feeding the fish for a while?”
“Do you really think what you did was flawless?” A cold smile appeared at the corner of Lu Xiao’s mouth. “The deaths of Zhang Dalong and Liu Tingting were all part of a trap you set for Song the Third to fall into.”
Chen Qiang listened, but his expression didn’t show the slightest hint of panic. “You’ve said a lot. Where’s the evidence?”
“Don’t be in a rush. Old Zhou, you go on.”
Old Zhou took a sip of tea and said, “After knocking on the doors, you entered both their homes and used an inhaled anesthetic that has a quick metabolism to knock them out. To make it look like they died on the spot in the explosion, you even gave them a large dose of sedatives. Unfortunately, we were able to extract barbiturates from the metabolites.”
Chen Qiang’s eyes still looked dead. He stared at them both with a strange smile. “I’ll say this again. I know nothing about what you’re talking about. The ‘evidence’ you have are just some ridiculous speculations!”
Lu Xiao held a pen and twirled it between his fingers, seeming to have lost his patience.
With a clink, the pen dropped to the floor.
Lu Xiao shot up from his seat and looked down at Chen Qiang. “You don’t know Song the Third, and you don’t know Zhang Dalong. Chen Qiang, I really want to know what Zhang Dalong’s face looked like when he saw his ‘best brother’ from many years ago trying to kill him.”
Chen Qiang’s eyes twitched for a moment when he heard the words “best brother.” He quickly regained his composure. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Li Tiangui, who are you trying to fool?”
“You… how could you…” Chen Qiang’s face showed a momentary breakdown. He clenched his fingers tightly. “What evidence do you have?”
No evidence. That was the most frustrating part.
Lu Xiao’s face remained impassive. At that moment, he felt like an Oscar-winning actor. “The thing you’ve been looking for all this time, isn’t that the evidence?”
“What?!” Chen Qiang’s pupils contracted, and his eyes were filled with horror.
Looks like the bluff worked! Lu Xiao was secretly pleased.
“You know what I’m looking for?” Chen Qiang’s face was full of disbelief.
“Do you remember the delivery driver you ran into when you went to Liu Tingting’s house?” Lu Xiao asked.
Chen Qiang remained silent, his expression complex.
“He had just left Liu Tingting’s place with a bouquet of roses. The thing you’ve been searching for was in those flowers.”
As Lu Xiao spoke, he watched Chen Qiang’s expression change. Chen Qiang, of course, remembered the roses at Liu Tingting’s place, but at that time, he didn’t even know what the relationship was between Zhang Dalong and Liu Tingting.
In Chen Qiang’s mind, Liu Tingting was just an HR manager with a dispute with Song the Third. He killed her simply because she appeared on Song the Third’s path, and he wanted to make the whole thing look like Song the Third’s doing. To Chen Qiang, Liu Tingting was just an unlucky person who was accidentally caught up in it all. He didn’t even say a word to her before she died.
Who would have thought that the most crucial piece of evidence would be in Liu Tingting’s hands, and she probably didn’t even know it herself?
“Were these two lovers?” Chen Qiang asked.
Lu Xiao was also shocked. “You didn’t know? Liu Tingting left her hometown to work and struggle in this city, only to die so tragically.”
