Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 58.1
“Don’t listen to their nonsense! I would never cheat on you!” Sui Yu explained anxiously. Infidelity wasn’t a small matter—if that seed of doubt was planted in Shen Jueshu’s heart, how could their relationship continue smoothly?
“I know. Don’t panic,” Shen Jueshu said with a soft laugh. The hand that had just straightened Sui Yu’s collar moved to cup her cheek gently. “I trust you.”
She meant it. She had faith in Sui Yu. Still, she couldn’t deny that she disliked seeing Sui Yu entangled in entertainment scandals with other people.
After all, Sui Yu was hers.
Hearing that Shen Jueshu hadn’t believed any of the gossip, Sui Yu slowly let out a breath of relief. As long as she trusted her, everything else could be handled. But even if Jueshu didn’t believe it, Sui Yu couldn’t just let the internet run wild with rumors. If this wasn’t cleared up, people might keep bringing it up later to stir trouble.
She pulled out her phone and logged into her blog. The topic was already trending with insane heat, and yet—Fu Xin hadn’t sent her a single message. That made her frown.
“Why hasn’t Fu Xin made any statement?” Sui Yu asked in confusion. This wasn’t just some harmless gossip. She was a married woman—Fu Xin being involved in something like this made her look like the “other woman,” which could seriously damage her career as an actress.
Shen Jueshu’s expression turned cold. Thinking about how Fu Xin had invited Sui Yu to dinner after only one meeting, and how this had happened right afterward, left a bad taste in her mouth.
And just as Sui Yu voiced the question, her phone buzzed.
It was a message from Fu Xin:
Fu Xin: President Sui, I’m sorry this happened. I’ve been in talks with the company since I found out, trying to manage the situation, but it hasn’t been going well. I didn’t mean to drag you into this.
Sui Yu stared at the message, her brows still slightly furrowed. She quickly typed back:
It’s fine. I’m going to clarify things myself. Just make sure to repost it.
Fu Xin didn’t reply immediately, but after a short delay, she sent back a simple:
Okay.
Staring at that single word on her screen, Sui Yu logged into her blog and posted a statement. She took a photo with Shen Jueshu, holding hands, and her tone matched the persona she’d always presented—direct and sharp:
One more rumor, and I’ll see if I can’t track you down myself.
The post had a strong bite to it, but with Sui Yu’s status, people knew she wasn’t bluffing. If she said she’d find someone, she probably could—and they’d likely pay for it.
The gossip accounts fell silent almost instantly.
After Fu Xin shared the post as well, even those who suspected they were stalling for time didn’t dare to say much anymore.
Seeing Fu Xin’s repost, Sui Yu commented curiously, “Last time there was gossip about her and Siyue, she logged in immediately to clarify. Why wait so long this time, especially when she could’ve handled it the same way?”
And she had wasted time trying to coordinate with her company first.
Shen Jueshu’s gaze stayed calm. “Maybe it’s because this time the rumor involves a married woman.”
Sui Yu blinked. “Ah… makes sense. If this one turned out to be true, her career could be done for.”
A scandal like that would label her as immoral, and no company would want to invest in a tainted image.
“Mm,” Shen Jueshu responded simply. Then she looked at Sui Yu and asked, “So, what exactly did she want to talk about over that lunch?”
At that question, Sui Yu’s expression stiffened for a moment. Then she took Shen Jueshu’s hand and led her into her private break room. Sitting down, she nervously rubbed her palms against her knees and said seriously:
“I know I probably shouldn’t have agreed to meet, but when I saw her face… I couldn’t bring myself to say no.”
“She asked me if I could help her sign with your company—so she could get a contract with more freedom.”
After getting that out, Sui Yu’s brows drooped, and she bit her lip, adding softly, “But I didn’t give her a definite answer. I just said I’d pass the message to you, and let your company assess whether she’s worth the investment.”
Seeing Sui Yu’s expression—like a guilty child—Shen Jueshu didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. She asked, “That’s it?”
“Huh?” Sui Yu looked up, confused. Shen Jueshu didn’t sound angry, but… just that? Wasn’t this a big deal?
Shen Jueshu chuckled at her puzzled expression, pinched her cheek, and said warmly, “You’re my Alpha, aren’t you? We’re a team. You just passed along a message. You don’t need to stress yourself out like this.”
Seeing her reaction, it was as if Sui Yu had somehow wronged her terribly.
“You’re not mad at me?!” Sui Yu’s eyes lit up instantly.
Looking at her like that, Shen Jueshu could practically see a tail wagging wildly behind her.
“Why would I be mad?” Shen Jueshu chuckled softly. “You didn’t even do anything out of line.”
Then, unable to resist, she leaned in and kissed the corner of Sui Yu’s lips.
Being kissed—and forgiven—instantly washed away all the anxiety Sui Yu had carried with her the whole afternoon. Her heart lightened, filled with soft pink bubbles of relief and joy.
Unfortunately, those bubbles didn’t last long. It was still work hours, after all, and Shen Jueshu had to return to her duties.
Sui Yu sighed for a bit, but quickly shook it off and returned to the lab to keep herself busy.
Back in her office, Shen Jueshu summoned Qin Qing and requested a full background investigation on Fu Xin. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Fu Xin’s intentions weren’t entirely pure. Given her and Sui Yu’s current position, it was better to stay cautious than be caught off guard.
After thinking for a while, she also asked Qin Qing to look into someone else. Her eyes held a cold glint as she gave the instruction.
Once that was done, she picked up her phone and called the head of her talent agency, instructing them to go ahead and sign Fu Xin.
If Fu Xin turned out to be clean, having her on board might give Sui Yu some peace of mind. If not—then keeping her under close watch would be even more convenient.
As she stared at the photo of Fu Xin on her screen, she wondered quietly—was this what Sui Yu’s old friend looked like?
After a moment’s silence, she closed the image.
Fu Xin had better not be harboring any bad intentions. Sui Yu might hesitate to act—but she wouldn’t.
Backtrack to that afternoon.
At that moment, Jiang Siyue was standing in the lobby of Li Jiang’s company, holding a few thermal lunchboxes. Her appearance drew no small amount of surprise from the employees—they hadn’t seen her in a long time.
Everyone had thought she’d given up on Li Jiang, especially since Li Jiang had once publicly declared that Jiang Siyue didn’t want her anymore.
But Jiang Siyue had been to this building countless times. She knew every corner and hallway by heart. When she reached the reception desk, she offered a bright and beautiful smile.
“Could you let your President Li know I’m here to see her?”
The receptionist was momentarily dazed by her charm, quickly dialing the internal line to ask whether Li Jiang was willing to meet her.
Though temporarily distracted by Jiang Siyue’s good looks, she still found it odd. Wasn’t this person always barging into the office before? Why so proper this time—asking through the front desk like a stranger? It felt like she was giving Li Jiang the upper hand for once.
Meanwhile, up in her office, Li Jiang froze when she got the call.
She never expected Jiang Siyue to come looking for her—not anymore.
Why was she here? What would she say?
A rush of panic bloomed in her chest.
The receptionist gently pressed again over the phone: “President Li, should I let her up?”
It took a second for Li Jiang to find her voice. “Let her in.”
After hanging up, she realized her hands were trembling slightly.
Jiang Siyue made her way upstairs with practiced ease and entered Li Jiang’s office. Their eyes met, but Li Jiang quickly looked away, masking her reaction with her usual cool expression.
“What brings you here?” she asked calmly.
Jiang Siyue placed the lunchboxes on the coffee table and began unpacking them one by one.
“I came to have lunch with you,” she said simply.
Li Jiang: “???”
She watched Jiang Siyue’s composed demeanor, then slowly sat down across from her.
“…Why would you suddenly want to have lunch with me?”
Jiang Siyue looked up, meeting her gaze. After a moment of silence, she said, “Li Jiang, I admit it. I still like you.”
No matter how much she’d tried to act indifferent before, she hadn’t been able to lie to herself.
She still liked Li Jiang. She couldn’t let go.
No, she wouldn’t go back to the way she was—utterly lost in love without a sense of self—but she couldn’t deny what her heart felt.
She still snuck glances at Li Jiang every time she visited the filming base.
Still scanned the crowds during every performance, searching for her figure.
Still felt her heart race whenever Li Jiang defended her online.
Those feelings—no matter how much she tried to deny them—were real. She couldn’t deceive herself anymore.
Li Jiang’s eyes widened in disbelief. Her expression was equal parts shock and fear.
Her throat felt dry, her voice caught somewhere in her chest.
But even after swallowing hard, no words would come out.
“Li Jiang, I want to know—when you made that post, the one where you said you really liked me… did you mean it?” Jiang Siyue’s eyes locked onto Li Jiang’s, unwavering, as if demanding a definitive answer.
Li Jiang started to panic. A faint sheen of sweat even appeared on her forehead. She lowered her voice and said, “You don’t need to pay attention to that… It doesn’t mean anything.”
“Doesn’t mean anything?” Jiang Siyue’s anger was immediately ignited. She stood up abruptly and pushed Li Jiang down onto the couch. Then she leaned over her, pressing her finger to Li Jiang’s chest. “Ask your heart—does it mean nothing? If it meant nothing, why did you say it? If it meant nothing, why do you care whether I’m okay or not? If it meant nothing, why would you say something so ambiguous that it stirred my heart?”
“If you’d just… just done nothing, I could’ve convinced myself to let go…”
By the time she said the last sentence, her voice had grown choked with emotion. If you had just left me alone… if you hadn’t given me even the tiniest bit of hope… maybe someday, I could’ve let you go.
Hearing the tremble in her voice, and feeling Jiang Siyue physically pinning her down like this, Li Jiang’s whole body tensed. She tried to wriggle free, but Jiang Siyue was straddling her waist. If she struggled too hard, she was afraid she might hurt her. In the end, she froze—caught between resistance and restraint.
“Say something!” Jiang Siyue’s voice rose, sharper now.
Li Jiang flinched slightly, and finally stopped resisting. But her eyes avoided Jiang Siyue’s; she turned her head to the side and said, in a low, weary voice, “Jiang Siyue… We’re not from the same world. I don’t want to play around with feelings—I can’t afford to. And honestly, I don’t even know what it is you like about me.”
Maybe Jiang Siyue’s so-called love was just an obsession with something she couldn’t have. Maybe once she got it, she wouldn’t even care anymore.
Jiang Siyue paused for a beat, stunned by her words. Then she slowly leaned down, trying to catch Li Jiang’s gaze.
“You think I’m the kind of person who toys with feelings?”
Li Jiang’s face tightened. “Aren’t you? Since high school, have you ever had a shortage of people around you?”
She was too unpredictable. And Li Jiang was someone who craved stability. Someone like Jiang Siyue couldn’t give her a sense of security.
But Jiang Siyue suddenly laughed, softly.
When she smiled like that, her eyes curved like crescent moons filled with starlight.
She explained, “That was all an act. I never actually started anything with anyone. I never toyed with anyone’s feelings.”
“As for liking you… I admit, at first it was your looks that drew me in. But at some point, I started wanting more than just your body—I wanted your heart.” She gently tapped her finger against Li Jiang’s chest.
Li Jiang blinked, stunned by her words. Her brows furrowed slowly—she didn’t understand. Acting? Why pretend?
Seeing her confusion, Jiang Siyue added, “Li Jiang, I love you. And I’ve only ever loved you.”
Li Jiang froze completely.
Only her?
Her heart began to pound wildly—like it didn’t believe it, but couldn’t help feeling overwhelmed with joy.
Jiang Siyue lowered her eyes. “So I’m asking you one last time: do you really not like me?”
Li Jiang’s heart skipped a beat, hard. Her throat felt dry and tight. Deep down, she was overjoyed—but when faced with Jiang Siyue’s question, she couldn’t find the courage to answer.
“Li Jiang, say something,” Jiang Siyue pleaded, her voice soft, almost begging.
Li Jiang’s face tensed. “You… You once said you could like anyone, but not me.”
Even though she’d just been elated by Jiang Siyue’s words, that particular sentence had lingered in her mind for years—sharp and unforgettable.
Jiang Siyue blinked in surprise. Then, noticing the tension in Li Jiang’s expression, her gaze softened. “You’re so smart. How could you not tell I was speaking out of anger that day?”
“Come on—anyone would be pissed after getting a cup of coffee dumped on them by your admirer. I just… took it out on you too.”
Li Jiang said nothing.
“Li Jiang… would you be willing to try with me?” Jiang Siyue asked gently.
Li Jiang swallowed hard. She still couldn’t bring herself to give a clear answer. Her voice was quiet, tinged with hesitation. “Maybe we’re just not… compatible.”
Jiang Siyue was radiant and fearless. She, on the other hand, was quiet and reserved. Could someone like her really be a good match for Siyue?
Jiang Siyue frowned, but quickly forced herself to relax. After a moment of silence, she said, “Whether we’re compatible or not—that’s something we won’t know unless we try. Are you really going to decide we’re not without even giving it a chance?”
“Li Jiang… are you sentencing me without a trial?”
