Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 52.1
“Jiang Siyue, do you still remember that we were classmates?”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Siyue looked slightly startled. She turned to glance at Li Jiang, but as she met her gaze — filled with a trace of wistfulness — she suddenly found herself unable to speak.
It seemed she had never truly registered that Li Jiang was her classmate. Now that Li Jiang brought it up, there was a faint recollection… but also not quite.
Seeing Jiang Siyue’s reaction, Li Jiang’s lips curled slightly, as if she wanted to smile, but couldn’t. She was never someone who smiled easily, and now even this small gesture felt strained and difficult.
“It’s normal that you don’t remember,” Li Jiang said softly. “Back then, you were so proud. There wasn’t room in your eyes for anyone else. Other than being close with Yu, you treated everyone else with that same bright, approachable facade.”
Jiang Siyue’s brows slowly furrowed. She was just about to ask something when Li Jiang stood up, dusted herself off, and said, “I’ll head back first. Say hi to the others for me.”
With that, she walked away, the rhythm of her heels striking the floor echoing in the hallway. Jiang Siyue watched her departing figure, suddenly feeling as if something had clenched around her heart — heavy, suffocating, and faintly painful.
Li Jiang had been gone for a long time, yet Jiang Siyue remained frozen in the same position. It wasn’t until someone nearby stumbled while holding onto the corridor railing — the noise snapping her out of her daze — that she finally came back to her senses.
After a moment’s thought, she took out her phone and called a friend — someone who had attended the same school as her since junior high. This friend would probably know something.
“Huh? You’re asking about Li Jiang?” her friend said, surprised. “I saw you two trending a while ago. I thought maybe you’d changed your mind and started liking her.”
Her friend had moved away after graduation and didn’t know that Jiang Siyue had once chased after Li Jiang.
“What do you mean ‘changed my mind’?” Jiang Siyue asked, her sense of unease growing stronger.
“What? You don’t remember?” her friend’s voice rose slightly. “Li Jiang was the top student from the class next to ours back in high school! Later, she even differentiated into a top-tier Alpha. Tons of people had crushes on her.”
Jiang Siyue paused, her expression blank. She vaguely remembered there being a top student, but the impression was faint.
Back then, her own life had been such a chaotic mess — how could she have had the time or energy to pay attention to someone else?
Her friend sighed. “You were kind of a star at school too. Every time your club performed, the crowd would gather. Li Jiang came to watch you a few times, and that’s when people started spreading rumors that she liked you.”
As always, in situations like that, there were bound to be thoughtless people who targeted the innocent. After one of her performances, Jiang Siyue was drenched in coffee by a male Omega. That vivid red dress was ruined, stained beyond repair. The guy had even shouted at her to stay away from Li Jiang.
“You said back then, ‘Whoever ends up liked by Li Jiang must have the worst luck imaginable. If it were me, she’d be the last person I’d ever fall for.’” Her friend sighed again. “You had no idea how dismissive you sounded.”
To others, Li Jiang was like the moon in the sky. But in Jiang Siyue’s eyes, she was nothing more than annoying air.
Only now, after hearing all this, did Jiang Siyue begin to vaguely recall the incident. After she hung up the call, she sat there in a daze.
That happened during their second year of high school. By then, Jiang Siyue had already differentiated into an Omega. At home, she lived in constant fear, terrified she’d be turned into a bargaining chip at any moment — every day was filled with anxiety.
That performance had been one she considered her last, something she wanted to end perfectly before resigning herself to being the wandering socialite her family expected. But just before the curtain fell, something like that had to happen. Who could possibly be happy under those circumstances?
At the time, she hadn’t paid much attention to Li Jiang.
Those words… had just been said out of anger.
But now — why had Li Jiang asked that question? Was it because she had been there and heard everything?
Is that why she refused Jiang Siyue’s confession now — because she remembered Jiang Siyue once saying she would never like her?
Jiang Siyue was completely stunned by the realization. So, in the end, everything that had happened… was all because of her?
She had no idea how long she had been sitting outside. It wasn’t until the door to the hospital room opened that she seemed to awaken from a trance. Jiang Siyue lifted her head blankly and looked at Shen Jueshu.
Shen Jueshu, who had originally come out to fetch some hot water, paused when she saw Jiang Siyue sitting there like that — along with the untouched fruit basket beside her. After a moment of silence, she asked, “Why are you just sitting here?”
Jiang Siyue shook her head absentmindedly and didn’t say a word.
Shen Jueshu frowned slightly. What was going on? Jiang Siyue looked like she had no energy at all. But she didn’t seem cold — so what was it?
“Go on in. Sit with Sui Yu for a bit,” she said gently.
“Oh,” Jiang Siyue responded, then picked up the fruit basket on the floor. Like a large, sluggish rabbit, she trudged wearily into the room.
Seeing this, Shen Jueshu shook her head and thought to herself — maybe Sui Yu could talk some sense into her. Consider it a preview of parenting skills.
When Jiang Siyue walked in, she saw that Sui Yu had already been propped up against the headboard with Shen Jueshu’s help.
“Are you feeling any better?” she asked as she set down the fruit basket. After a pause, she added, “Oh, this is from Li Jiang. She also asked me to pass along her regards.”
Sui Yu glanced at the fruit basket, then back at Jiang Siyue’s expression. “What’s with the long face?” she asked.
Whenever she was with Sui Yu, Jiang Siyue seemed to drop much of her usual facade. Her face drooped, clearly in low spirits, and she replied, “I just realized… I might’ve hurt Li Jiang’s feelings — and I didn’t even know it.”
“Huh? What do you mean?” Sui Yu was intrigued. That sounded like there was a whole story behind it. Hurt Li Jiang’s feelings?
She tried to imagine Li Jiang, who had always been cold and indifferent — honestly on par with how Shen Jueshu used to be. Someone like that, getting their feelings hurt? It was hard to picture.
Jiang Siyue took a deep breath. “Back in high school, Li Jiang went to the same school as us. One time, because she came to watch one of my performances, one of her admirers assumed she liked me and threw a cup of coffee on me.”
Her voice lowered. “I was furious, so I said some harsh things. Li Jiang might’ve overheard them.”
As she spoke, Jiang Siyue remembered what Li Jiang had said earlier — that she hadn’t fallen for her after she left. If that was true, and she hadn’t developed feelings afterward, then she must’ve liked her before she left. And the way she asked if Jiang Siyue remembered they were classmates — could that have been a hint? Could Li Jiang have truly liked her in high school?
After hearing her out, Sui Yu just stared, stunned. She hadn’t expected the story to go in this direction. Li Jiang had a crush on Jiang Siyue in high school?
Sui Yu slowly furrowed her brow, recalling Li Jiang’s consistently distant demeanor. She would’ve never imagined someone like her to be so… earnest. A high school crush, held onto all this time — and aside from a few superficial moments of affection toward the story’s protagonist, Shen Jueshu, it had remained untainted by any other distractions.
“Well,” Sui Yu finally said dryly, “that’s quite the unexpected revelation.”
Jiang Siyue nodded weakly. She hadn’t seen it coming either. Along with the surprise, there was a swirl of emotions she couldn’t quite name or explain.
Seeing her like this, Sui Yu’s heart softened a bit. “So what are you going to do now?”
Li Jiang had turned Jiang Siyue down — partly because of the narrative’s pull, but also, perhaps, because of those hurtful words Jiang Siyue had once said. And maybe, too, because of the reputation Jiang Siyue had cultivated back then — carefree, flirtatious, unreliable. How could Li Jiang have been sure she wouldn’t be just another fling?
Under those circumstances, it was understandable why she couldn’t say yes.
Jiang Siyue dazedly shook her head. “I don’t know,” she murmured.
This sudden truth had caught her off guard. She hadn’t had time to process it, much less decide what to do next.
Watching the defeated bunny-like look on Jiang Siyue’s face, Sui Yu sighed. “Then don’t think about it for now. Let it sit. When your mind’s clear, then decide.”
“Don’t make any impulsive decisions.”
“Okay.” Jiang Siyue nodded. She was listening.
By the time Shen Jueshu came back in, what she saw was Jiang Siyue peeling a banana and putting the pieces into a disposable bowl — only to hold it up to Sui Yu’s mouth to feed her like a pet.
Shen Jueshu: “…”
She wasn’t sure if she should be speechless… or laugh.
She reached out to take the half-eaten banana from Sui Yu’s mouth and immediately noticed Sui Yu’s cheeks still moving. Clearly, the first half was still in there, unchewed.
Once she finally swallowed, Sui Yu blinked at Shen Jueshu and said, “Water.”
Shen Jueshu: “…”
She poured a cup and held it to Sui Yu’s lips, sighing as she looked at the two of them.
These two together — it’s only a matter of time before one of them drops dead.
Jiang Siyue, of course, had no idea how bizarre her banana-feeding method looked.
“Oh, right,” Sui Yu said, suddenly remembering, “Li Jiang’s cousin, Li Yi, came to see us earlier. She said she wants to arrange an engagement between you and Li Jiang. What do you think?”
“…Huh?” Jiang Siyue’s eyes slowly widened in disbelief, as if she couldn’t trust what she’d just heard. After a long pause, she finally asked, stunned, “Does Li Jiang want that too?”
Earlier, when they’d sat outside together, Li Jiang didn’t seem like someone who’d be open to the idea at all…
Sui Yu shook her head and said seriously, “It doesn’t seem like it. It looks like Li Yi made that decision on her own. Li Jiang might not even know anything about it.”
Jiang Siyue was silent for a moment. “…And what if I agreed, but Li Jiang didn’t?”
Sui Yu still looked completely serious. “Maybe once you agree, Li Jiang won’t have the courage to say no.”
After all, the pressure of family bloodlines was real—sometimes it truly did affect people.
Jiang Siyue: “…”
“Just follow what you want,” Shen Jueshu said calmly. “No one can force you.”
Hearing that, Jiang Siyue lowered her head and responded softly, “Alright.” Then she added, “Ah Yu, take care and rest. I’ll head back for now.”
“Okay,” Sui Yu replied.
Shen Jueshu glanced at her and added, “Try not to keep coming to the hospital so often. Right now, what you need most is to stay in the public eye. Don’t waste your time here.”
Jiang Siyue was about to argue, but under Shen Jueshu’s firm and unyielding gaze, she gave up. She had to admit—there wasn’t really anything she could do here.
After she left, the doctor came in to check on Sui Yu again. After confirming her condition was stable, he rushed off to another ward, leaving the two women alone. They looked at each other and couldn’t help but smile.
That sense of relief after surviving something terrifying—it didn’t need to be spoken aloud to be felt.
“Do you remember those three women who came to the company looking for you?” Shen Jueshu asked.
Sui Yu nodded. That memory was too vivid to forget.
As she began peeling an orange, Shen Jueshu said casually, “I had Qin Qing send people to follow them. Eventually, we found out they were hired to stage the whole scene.”
“By who?” Sui Yu’s eyes widened. Who could have come up with something so cruel?
“They didn’t know. They only got a phone call from someone anonymous, and a payment wired directly into their accounts. But…”
Shen Jueshu’s gaze turned cold. “Even though the money passed through several accounts first, if you’re patient enough, you can still trace it.”
That was why it had taken so long. Tracking it one account at a time finally led her to the person behind it all.
“We’ve already got that person in custody.”
Letting Gu Ying go earlier had been a calculated move—a way to bait a bigger fish. But no one ever came for him. Over time, Gu Ying faded away, like he no longer mattered, like he had turned into just another faceless person in this world.
Based on the reports they received later, Shen Jueshu guessed he’d likely lost his original identity and been absorbed into the storyline—just another minor character in the book.
Sui Yu grew excited the moment she heard that. She tried to sit up, but her body immediately gave out, and she collapsed back down with a sharp breath, sweat breaking out from the pain.
“Don’t move!” Shen Jueshu quickly lowered the bed back down and helped her lie flat again, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead.
After lying still for a moment, Sui Yu finally adjusted to the pain. She gave a sheepish smile and said, “I got too excited and forgot. So… which side was that person from?”
