Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 47.1
The realization hit her hard—What if I’m crippled?
If she couldn’t walk properly anymore… how could she ever be worthy of Shen Jueshu?
Shen Jueshu was stunned by the sudden outburst. Then, seeing Sui Yu fumbling under the covers to feel her leg, she sighed helplessly.
She gently pinched Sui Yu’s cheek and said softly, “Why would you curse yourself like that? Don’t worry. You won’t be crippled.”
Thankfully, no nerves or arteries had been damaged. Otherwise, it might’ve been a different story.
“Really? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better, right?” Sui Yu still couldn’t fully believe it. Deep down, she was terrified that Shen Jueshu might lie to comfort her.
Hearing that, Shen Jueshu sighed again. “Do you really trust me so little?”
Did her words mean that little to her?
Sui Yu buried her face in Shen Jueshu’s arms and gave a soft, guilty nuzzle. “I’m just scared,” she whispered.
Shen Jueshu looked down at the head snuggling against her and finally wrapped her arms around her again. She lowered her head and kissed the top of her hair. “If you don’t believe me now, you’ll see for yourself soon enough.”
Sui Yu gave a soft “mm,” and curled even closer into her embrace, unwilling to move.
Breathing in Shen Jueshu’s calming scent, she felt completely at peace.
Her body might’ve rested for days, but her eyelids were starting to droop again.
Seeing her like that, Shen Jueshu carefully lay down with her, turning sideways to cradle her in her arms. “If you’re tired, go to sleep,” she murmured.
Right now, Sui Yu looked exactly like a little pup who’d been beaten out on the streets—running home for comfort, tail between her legs.
“Mm…” Sui Yu sighed, letting the warmth lull her to sleep again.
Just before slipping under, she had the vague feeling she’d forgotten something.
Shen Jueshu continued watching her as she fell asleep. Only when Sui Yu’s face relaxed into peaceful slumber did she finally feel at ease.
During the three days Sui Yu had been unconscious, she’d constantly frowned—like she was having nightmares. Her sleep had been restless.
Shen Jueshu reached out and gently brushed her fingertips across her face, then to the bandage on her forehead. Her eyes grew darker.
She wouldn’t let Ding Qisi get away with this.
Then, holding Sui Yu tightly, Shen Jueshu finally let herself rest. She hadn’t slept properly in days, her nerves stretched to the breaking point. Now that Sui Yu was safe, the exhaustion crashed over her like a wave.
Breathing in Sui Yu’s soft geranium scent, she drifted off to sleep.
When the nurse came in to change the IV drip and saw them lying together like that, she moved carefully, doing her work as quietly as possible before slipping out again.
The way the two of them held each other—it was the kind of love people could spend their whole lives searching for, yet never find.
—
Sui Yu had never slept so comfortably.
No nightmares.
No panic.
Just deep, uninterrupted rest.
Her body felt lighter, and even her spirit felt refreshed. She stretched lazily and opened her eyes.
She looked to the side—Shen Jueshu wasn’t there.
Confusion flickered in her mind. Didn’t she fall asleep right next to me?
After a few moments, the door opened, and Shen Jueshu walked in carrying a paper bag. When she saw Sui Yu awake, she quickened her pace and asked gently, “Feeling any better?”
Sui Yu smiled softly at the concern in her voice, her eyes shining. “Much better.” Then her gaze shifted to the bag. “What’s that?”
Shen Jueshu studied her face. Her complexion looked healthy again. She finally let out a breath of relief.
“I brought dinner.” She unpacked the bag and opened a thermal container. The aroma of freshly cooked congee filled the room.
Sui Yu’s stomach gave a loud grumble.
She looked at Shen Jueshu, embarrassed.
What could she do? While she was locked up, Ding Qisi had barely fed her. Not even a sip of water. Then she’d been unconscious for days, living off glucose drips.
Shen Jueshu clearly heard it and chuckled softly. She walked into the bathroom, fetched Sui Yu’s toiletries, and gently started helping her wash up.
Sui Yu blushed furiously. She wanted to protest and do it herself, but Shen Jueshu’s gentle but firm tone left no room for refusal. So she had no choice but to accept the care, face burning all the while.
After cleaning her up, Shen Jueshu poured a bowl of congee and brought it over, ready to feed her.
“I can do it myself. My hands are fine,” Sui Yu said, cheeks still flushed.
Being spoon-fed while perfectly capable felt unbearably embarrassing—and a little too intimate!
But Shen Jueshu avoided her reaching hands and said in a low voice, “Sui Yu… let me do this. I need to. It’s the only way I’ll feel better.”
She still felt guilty for arriving too late. Now, being able to care for her, even in small ways, was the only thing easing her heart.
Hearing that, Sui Yu didn’t argue again. She quietly ate the congee from Shen Jueshu’s hand. When she finished the bowl, she murmured, “More, please~”
A smile tugged at Shen Jueshu’s lips. She fed her a second bowl, only stopping when Sui Yu finally shook her head.
Once Sui Yu was full, Shen Jueshu began eating her own dinner.
But after the meal came a different kind of challenge.
Now that she was awake, Sui Yu couldn’t stand not bathing anymore. Even though Shen Jueshu said she’d wiped her down every day, it didn’t feel the same.
“But… your thigh is still injured. It’s not safe to shower,” Shen Jueshu said hesitantly.
Sui Yu looked down at the layers of gauze around her thigh, then glanced up at her with big, pleading eyes. “But I feel so gross…”
That look melted Shen Jueshu instantly.
She had no resistance to Sui Yu looking at her like that. When she got that pitiful, she’d agree to anything.
“I’ll wrap it with plastic wrap! It’ll be fine!” Sui Yu said quickly, blushing slightly.
Then another thought struck her—
Wait… if Shen Jueshu was wiping me down while I was unconscious… then didn’t she already see everything?!
Shen Jueshu sighed but gave in. She found a roll of plastic wrap and carefully secured it around the injury to protect it from water.
Then she brought a crutch, helped Sui Yu to her feet, and guided her into the bathroom. She helped her sit on a small stool, then bent down and began to unbutton her hospital gown.
“W-wait!!” Sui Yu panicked, grabbing her hand. Eyes wide in alarm, she stammered, “I-I can do it myself! You can leave now!”
She only ever planned to bathe, not have Shen Jueshu bathe her!
Shen Jueshu looked at Sui Yu’s completely flushed face and chuckled softly. “I’ve already seen everything. Are you still embarrassed?”
Maybe having such a shy Alpha wasn’t entirely a good thing.
Sui Yu’s face turned even redder. She couldn’t even look at Shen Jueshu directly. “Th-that was when I wasn’t conscious. Now that I’m awake, of course I should wash myself!”
The idea of standing fully exposed in front of Shen Jueshu—while fully awake—was just too much to bear.
Shen Jueshu’s smile faded a little. Then she asked gently, “Have you… not fully accepted being with me?”
She couldn’t help but wonder—was Sui Yu still hesitating? Was she not ready for this kind of intimacy?
Sui Yu’s eyes widened, clearly shocked. “What?! Of course not! I’m the one who kissed you first!”
She was the one who couldn’t hold back and made the first move—how could she possibly not have accepted it?
Shen Jueshu studied her, seeing the genuine panic and sincerity on her face. Her heart eased. She leaned down and kissed her lightly on the lips. “Then be careful. Call me if you need anything.”
As soon as Shen Jueshu pulled away, Sui Yu instinctively licked her lips where they had just touched, murmuring an agreement.
That little motion—her pink tongue brushing across the spot Shen Jueshu had kissed—made something flare up in Shen Jueshu’s chest again.
She closed her eyes, forcing herself to calm down. How much longer can I hold back?
When Shen Jueshu finally left the bathroom, Sui Yu let out a breath of relief. She bit her lip, peeled off her clothes, and slowly began to wash herself with the handheld shower.
“Ugh…”
Her face twisted. With her head injury, even basic movement was awkward and painful. Washing her body was manageable, but her hair… that was impossible. Her head still throbbed, and even turning her neck made her dizzy.
She had planned to wash first, get dressed, and then call Shen Jueshu in to help with her hair. But getting undressed had been much easier than getting dressed—especially with one leg still injured.
Sui Yu: “…”
Biting down on her shame, she turned toward the door and called out, drawing out the word in a pitiful tone:
“Wiiife~”
The moment the word left her mouth, her face exploded red again. Great. Now she’s definitely going to tease me. She was the one who insisted Shen Jueshu leave—and now she was the one calling her back in. It made her seem even more ridiculous.
Outside, Shen Jueshu heard her voice and smiled.
Finally, she thought.
She opened the door and stepped in, immediately seeing Sui Yu’s big, watery eyes staring at her, both arms trying to cover her body in vain. She looked beyond embarrassed.
Shen Jueshu almost laughed. Right now, Sui Yu looked more like a shy little Omega than a top Alpha.
“D-don’t laugh!” Sui Yu whined, blushing furiously. Wasn’t she embarrassed enough already?
Shen Jueshu stifled her laughter, though the smile never quite left her lips. She stepped forward, wrapped a towel gently around Sui Yu, and asked, “So, why did you call me back in?”
Sui Yu’s voice was small. “I can’t wash my hair. And I… can’t put my clothes on either.”
Injuring one hand would’ve been less troublesome than hurting a leg, honestly.
Shen Jueshu chuckled again and began gathering everything she’d need to wash her hair. She moved carefully, avoiding the injury on her scalp, taking her time and treating her with the gentlest touch.
Though Sui Yu was still terribly self-conscious, she eventually relaxed. The warmth of Shen Jueshu’s care slowly soothed her embarrassment.
After finishing her hair, Shen Jueshu dried her off and carefully helped her get dressed, keeping everything proper and respectful. There were no unnecessary movements, no boundary-crossing touches.
Sui Yu felt… relieved. But also, oddly disappointed.
After drying her hair and checking the plastic wrap over her thigh, Shen Jueshu gently removed it and inspected the bandages, confirming they were still dry. Only then did she relax.
“I’m going to wash up,” she told Sui Yu. “Try to rest a bit.”
Sui Yu lay in bed as Shen Jueshu gathered fresh clothes and headed into the bathroom. Watching her disappear inside, Sui Yu smiled faintly, but her eyes dimmed a little.
Shen Jueshu was someone who should’ve been living freely, easily—yet here she was, stuck in a cramped hospital room caring for her.
Right—she forgot to ask what happened to Ding Qisi!
The very thought made Sui Yu fume. Ding Qisi’s behavior had been even more deranged than the worst parts of novel-era Shen Jueshu.
She touched the gland at her neck. Back when she’d forcibly broken through the drug’s suppression to release her pheromones, it had felt like her entire body was being stabbed. Now, that pain was gone—but had it left any side effects?
Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the bathroom door opening until she heard it click.
She turned to look.
Shen Jueshu had changed into a simple hospital-provided pajama set. The long-sleeved top and loose pants were modest, revealing only a sliver of collarbone. Everything else was thoroughly covered.
Sui Yu suddenly wanted to laugh.
Back at home, Shen Jueshu had loved wearing soft little nightgowns—now she looked like a prim and proper nurse.
“What were you thinking just now?” Shen Jueshu asked as she sat on the bed.
Sui Yu, half-lying down, gave her a grin. “I was picturing you in your nightgowns.”
Shen Jueshu rolled her eyes and gave her a playful glare. As if she could wear those here, with nurses walking in and out at any moment.
Sui Yu scooted over to make room. Thankfully, the hospital bed was big enough for two.
Shen Jueshu lay down next to her, reached over, and switched off the light.
“Wife… what happened to Ding Qisi?” Sui Yu asked, remembering the gunshot she’d heard.
At the mention of that name, Shen Jueshu’s expression turned cold. She held Sui Yu close and said, “She won’t ever touch you again. She’s in holding now—soon she’ll be in prison.”
She had no intention of letting Ding Qisi off easily.
If she dared to harm Sui Yu, then she’d suffer the consequences—tenfold, a hundredfold.
She’d promised that much.
Sui Yu let out a breath of relief. As long as she wasn’t dead, it was fine. Ding Qisi was still linked to those “travelers”—who knew what they were planning. If Ding Qisi had done something worse behind the scenes, they needed time to uncover it.
“They’re bound to get nervous now that Ding Qisi’s been taken down,” Shen Jueshu said quietly. “She was a key piece in their next move. With her gone, the entire plot’s derailed. Who knows where things will go from here.”
