1122 - Chapter 43.2
“Then I won’t be angry.”
“Right, he’s not worth your anger.”
Robert watched as Jiang Yi whispered intimately with the Alpha, walking over until they stood before him. The Alpha pheromones enveloping Jiang Yi made his eyes burn with envy and the scent of those pheromones.
Seemed to belong to the Alpha beside him.
Suspicion surged in his heart.
“Good evening, Mr. Robert.” Jiang Yi offered him a smile, only to have his waist pinched by the bodyguard the moment he finished. His temple twitched, but he maintained his composure.
Robert handed his champagne to Jiang Yi, his gaze sweeping over the Alpha beside him as if casually inquiring, “And this is?”
“I’m President Jiang’s new bodyguard.” Yan Nanchen stepped halfway in front of Jiang Yi, taking the glass for him and downing it in one gulp. “President Jiang has a low alcohol tolerance. I’ll drink for him.”
Hearing the flawless foreign accent, Robert narrowed his eyes slightly and smiled. “Ah, the bodyguard. Indeed, an Omega like Mr. Jiang does need protection.”
Yan Nanchen replied expressionlessly, “Not at all. Omegas aren’t entirely dependent on protection. President Jiang is exceptionally capable, outstanding in skill, and even excels in boxing. Have you seen it, Mr. Robert?”
Robert: “…” What was this murderous aura? He treated it as a joke and nodded, then turned to Jiang Yi. “Since you’re here, you must want to discuss things with me again. Have a drink, I’ll have them prepare something sweet for you. How about it?”
Jiang Yi thought his purpose in coming was to figure out what Robert was up to. Besides, he had Yan Nanchen with him, and with so many people at the gala, nothing too troublesome should happen. “No need, I can handle a little.”
Yan Nanchen frowned and lowered his voice in Mandarin. “Try not to drink. You haven’t had alcohol in years, I’m worried you’ll get drunk easily now.”
“Just one glass to test him. After all, I still need to complete the task Director Duan assigned me. Regardless of the outcome, I need to give an answer.”
“If you feel unwell, you must tell me immediately. Understood?”
“Understood.”
Robert quietly observed the interaction between the two, his expression unreadable. He raised a hand slightly, and a nearby waiter who seemed to have been briefed beforehand immediately turned to carry out his orders.
Before long, the waiter returned with a tray, carrying a highball glass filled with a rosé and champagne-colored drink.
“This ‘Nightfall Rose’ is a cocktail I personally prepared. It’s not too strong, just enough to give you a slight buzz. It should be suitable if you’re not much of a drinker.”
Jiang Yi stared at the oddly colored drink, hesitating to speak.
At that moment, Yan Nanchen was quicker, taking the glass and taking a sip. His expression was serious, as if carefully tasting it, before handing it to Jiang Yi. “You can try it. It’s not too strong.”
Hearing Yan Nanchen’s words, Jiang Yi naturally accepted it without suspicion. After a few sips, he found the taste surprisingly unique and quite pleasant.
Robert: “…” He took a deep breath, forcing a smile. “Mr. Jiang, I was rude this morning, but tonight I sincerely want to apologize. I was abrupt. As for the cooperation,”
“800 million. If we can agree, we’ll proceed. If not, then forget it.” Jiang Yi placed the glass back on the tray and said bluntly, “Mr. Robert, we Chinese don’t do business with so many roundabout offenses and abruptness. After this drink, if we can talk, we’ll continue. If not, then let’s drop it.”
“I know you really need this batch of goods,” Robert said.
Jiang Yi replied, “But if you don’t give me 800 million, there’s nothing I can do. My boss only authorized me 800 million.”
Robert glanced at the Alpha bodyguard beside Jiang Yi, noticing how the man kept staring at Jiang Yi and then at him, as if wary of any sudden moves. But in truth, Robert did have something in mind.
“As I said, there are other ways for you to secure this batch for 800 million.”
Jiang Yi caught the underlying implication and laughed. “So, you’re interested in me?” As he spoke, Yan Nanchen pinched his lower back again as a warning.
Robert chuckled at Jiang Yi’s directness. “You really are special. Yes, I have that intention. If possible, I can offer you better resources than what you have now resources from M Country, or anything else you might need.”
“But I already have an Alpha,” Jiang Yi countered. “Like I said, I appreciate the offer. 800 million, if we can agree, great. If not, I’ll leave now.”
Robert frowned at his words. “You have an Alpha?”
“Mm, he’s my Alpha.” Jiang Yi pulled Yan Nanchen closer.
Robert’s expression turned even more complicated. “Mr. Jiang, don’t joke. He’s just a bodyguard. I’m the richest man in M Country.”
Jiang Yi recalled that not long ago, Galaxy Group had ranked third among the top ten global enterprises, with ten of its subsidiaries listed in the Fortune Global 500. This had significantly boosted Yan Nanchen’s net worth.
He remembered that Yan Nanchen’s grandfather, Chu Yiqiao, had once been the richest man in Asia. Later, after Yan Nanchen inherited Galaxy Group, he also made it onto Asia’s rich list. But now?
“I’m currently the second richest in the world.”
Just as Jiang Yi was pondering this, he heard Yan Nanchen whisper those words in his ear. He turned to him in surprise. “You’re already second in the world?”
Weren’t you sick before?
How is this guy so good at making money?
Yan Nanchen nodded and patted his lower back. “Quick, tell him your Alpha is the world’s second-richest person and Asia’s wealthiest.” Only then did he realize that Robert was the M-country’s wealthiest individual, ranked right behind him on the list.
The wealth gap between them was staggering.
Jiang Yi suddenly understood why Yan Nanchen had casually dismissed 1.2 billion as if it were just 1,200. Yan Nanchen was far richer than he had imagined. It seemed Yan Nanchen was right being too wealthy really wasn’t a good thing.
“My Alpha is Yan Nanchen, the CEO of Galaxy Group,” he said, gesturing to the man beside him. “That’s him.”
When Robert heard “Yan Nanchen, CEO of Galaxy Group,” his expression stiffened for a split second. This was the man who had surpassed him on the Forbes list and by a massive margin.
For a moment, he wasn’t sure how to feel.
Perhaps it was the thick skin of a businessman, but he suppressed the discomfort and smiled. “Alright, 800 million it is.”
Eight hundred million in exchange for an indirect collaboration with Galaxy Group didn’t seem like a bad deal.
Only then did Yan Nanchen step forward, extending his hand to Robert. “Hello, I’m Yan Nanchen. My Omega has been in your care. Looking forward to working together.”
Robert chuckled. “Bodyguard, huh? You Chinese sure know how to have fun. Pleasure doing business.”
The deal went surprisingly smoothly. Fortunately, Robert wasn’t particularly hypocritical after all, as someone of status in high society, choosing a beneficial business partner and a profitable future mattered more than a fleeting attraction.
Jiang Yi was also pleasantly surprised and, in his excitement, drank a few more glasses of “Twilight Rose.”
Noticing this, Robert kindly reminded him, “This wine has a low alcohol content if you drink a little, but it stacks up if you drink too much. I wouldn’t recommend overdoing it.”
Jiang Yi, holding a wine glass, leaned slightly against Yan Nanchen’s arm, already tipsy, a faint smile on his lips. “It’s fine. My Alpha is here. I’m safe.”
Seeing this, Yan Nanchen wrapped an arm around him, pressed a hand over the rim of the glass, and took it from him. “No more.”
“I’m not drunk.”
“You already are.” Yan Nanchen could hear the slight slur in Jiang Yi’s voice. He set the glass aside and turned to Robert. “Mr. Robert, we’ll catch up another time. I’ll take him home now.”
Robert nodded. “I hope we can collaborate further.”
“You gave my beloved a discount on those medical devices for 800 million. He’s happy, so naturally, we’ll work together.”
“Good. Then I won’t see you out. Drive safely.”
Perhaps genuinely overjoyed, Jiang Yi remained exhilarated even in his tipsy state, chattering excitedly once they were in the car.
“Puppy, I’m so happy. Director Duan will definitely be thrilled too.”
Yan Nanchen fastened Jiang Yi’s seatbelt, already certain he was about 70% drunk. “Mm,” he acknowledged. “I know you’re happy. Now sit still, I’m driving.”
“Puppy, so you’re really the second-richest person in the world? You’re that amazing? How are you so good at making money?”
Yan Nanchen steered the car away from the club, chuckling as he turned the wheel. “I just enjoy it.”
“Puppy, I’m so happy.”
“Mm, I know. As long as you’re happy.”
“I want to play in the car.”
Yan Nanchen nearly slammed on the accelerator. Gripping the wheel, he shot Jiang Yi a helpless look. “I’m driving. Don’t mess around.”
In that instant, an intense Tuberose Jasmine omega pheromone filled the car, so potent it nearly broke through the blocker, spreading unchecked and unhindered.
Like vines of jasmine creeping upward, it enveloped the Alpha, blooming in all its beauty in an instant.
Jiang Yi in the passenger seat felt unbearably hot and restless. He loosened his collar, revealing the faint marks left on his neck from earlier in the afternoon. Perhaps realizing his condition, he turned his moist eyes toward Yan Nanchen, pleading silently.
Then he reached out toward Yan Nanchen.
“Puppy…”
The moment Jiang Yi’s hand touched him, Yan Nanchen held his breath. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he instinctively pressed down on the accelerator. “Yi Yi, hold on a little longer.”
Was it Heat?!
But the hand refused to be controlled, unruly and relentless, teasing him incessantly as he drove.
He could only half-coax, half-deceive Jiang Yi into sitting still.
Once they reached the hotel, Yan Nanchen quickly parked the car. He first bit Jiang Yi’s nape, leaving a mark to ease his restlessness, then wrapped his suit jacket around him.
The room card beeped as the door unlocked.
In the foyer, the door slammed against the wall, accompanied by ragged breaths, the sound of limbs entwining, and fabric rustling.
The Heat suppressed for five years finally erupted, seizing this moment to break free completely.
“Puppy, come on, open my birth cavity.”
