1122 - Chapter 40.1
Just as he was looking at the nosebleed on the back of his hand, his arm was suddenly grabbed. Startled, he turned his head and met Yan Nanchen’s dark expression. Instantly feeling guilty, he quickly covered his nose with a handkerchief.
“Come with me,” Yan Nanchen said.
Jiang Yi detected the seriousness in Yan Nanchen’s tone and could only press the handkerchief to his nose. “Okay.”
Then he followed Yan Nanchen as they stood up.
Chu Beiheng, who had been watching the kids nearby, noticed the two of them getting up together. His gaze held a hint of scrutiny as it landed on Jiang Yi’s face, still covered by the handkerchief. Guessing that he must have had another nosebleed, Chu Beiheng sighed almost imperceptibly. “Holding it in too much?”
Jiang Yi: “…”
Yan Nanchen frowned deeply.
In the bathroom.
“Did you have a nosebleed last night?”
Jiang Yi took off his glasses and set them aside, bending over the sink to wash his face. Hearing Yan Nanchen’s question, he paused for two seconds before lifting his head. “Yes.”
Then he saw Yan Nanchen’s expression darken instantly.
“When I called you during your shower and you didn’t answer were you dealing with a nosebleed?” Yan Nanchen noticed the water on his face, grabbed a few tissues, and cupped Jiang Yi’s chin to wipe it dry.
Jiang Yi let him do it, thought for another two seconds, then shook his head. “No, I fell asleep.”
As soon as he said it, Yan Nanchen’s expression darkened further.
Seeing Yan Nanchen like this reminded Jiang Yi of five years ago, when this man would always furrow his brows while working. He reached out and pinched Yan Nanchen’s cheek. “Don’t be so stern. It’s just a nosebleed. Hot weather makes it easier to get them.”
Truthfully, it was mostly due to his body overheating. Yan Nanchen was standing too close, and the Alpha pheromones he adored were constantly affecting him.
“‘Just a nosebleed’?” Yan Nanchen grabbed his hand, visibly irritated by his dismissive attitude. “How many nosebleeds have you had since coming back? How many fevers? And you call that ‘just’?”
“I have a pheromone concentration imbalance. Now that we’re together, more cuddles will help.” Seeing Yan Nanchen overreacting, Jiang Yi hugged him. “Don’t worry, it’s fine.”
He couldn’t exactly say he was really pent up, could he? That would be too embarrassing.
“How can I not worry? I’m very worried.” Yan Nanchen hugged him back, his anxiety spiking at the thought of Jiang Yi experiencing these symptoms out of his sight. “I’m moving in with you.”
Jiang Yi laughed. “Who moves in together right after getting together? Shouldn’t we take it step by step?”
“I’m serious, not joking.” Yan Nanchen frowned at his lighthearted reaction. “Jiang Yi, you’re scaring me. Later, I’ll have Beiheng take them home, and we’ll go to the hospital.”
Jiang Yi hesitated. He could already guess what the doctor would say nothing more than the reason his Heat was delayed.
“Trust me, I’m really fine.”
Yan Nanchen sensed Jiang Yi’s resistance, which only deepened his unease. “Yi Yi, I just want to make sure you’re okay. Let me have peace of mind, alright?”
“I don’t want to go today.” Knowing how stubborn Yan Nanchen could be, Jiang Yi adjusted his glasses. “How about tomorrow?”
Yan Nanchen fell silent for a moment, studying Jiang Yi intently. Realizing that today was Qiao Qiao’s birthday and not wanting to scare their daughter, he reluctantly relented. “Fine. But are you feeling unwell anywhere else right now?”
At that moment, he saw Jiang Yi’s hand slide up to his chest, fingers toying with the buttons of his shirt, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
Jiang Yi chuckled softly, undoing the first two buttons of his shirt. His slender fingers loosened the collar, revealing faint blue veins tracing his collarbone and neck against his cool, pale skin like unveiling a hidden temptation. The movement instantly locked Yan Nanchen’s gaze.
“Puppy, why don’t you take a bite out of me?”
Yan Nanchen’s eyes flickered over the exposed stretch of pale neck, but before he could react, Jiang Yi grabbed his shirt and pulled him close.
Their shoes touched, toes brushing, and in that instant, their heartbeats stuttered.
Jiang Yi held onto Yan Nanchen’s shirt, tilting his head slightly as he leaned in, lips grazing his ear in a whisper: “If I let you bite me, will you behave? Hmm?”
That coaxing tone “behave, okay?” eased some of the restless anxiety coiled in Yan Nanchen’s chest.
“No,” Yan Nanchen murmured, bracing his arms on either side of Jiang Yi, caging him in. His gaze dropped, intense. “Not enough.”
“I know you’re worried about me, but I promise I’m fine.”
“Promises don’t count.”
Jiang Yi sighed at his childishness, amused, then nipped lightly at his lower lip. “How about a kiss? Does that count?”
“No. I just, I need you to see a doctor before I can relax.”
“We can’t scare Qiao Qiao during her birthday, can we?”
“That’s not what I meant. I just. I’m concerned.”
Jiang Yi exhaled softly, wrapping his arms around Yan Nanchen’s shoulders, murmuring by his ear, “Let’s go in a couple of days, alright? Puppy, be good for me?”
“Then I want to hold you tonight too.”
Jiang Yi laughed, relenting. “Fine.”
“So, can I bite you now?”
Jiang Yi tugged his collar aside, turning to brace his hands against the sink, head bowed. “Go ahead.”
The mirror reflected the disheveled Omega shirt askew, head lowered. When the Alpha behind him sank his teeth into the gland at his nape, a flush crept up his pale neck. His fingers tightened against the sink’s edge, knuckles whitening, back arching slightly.
Then Yan Nanchen’s larger hands covered his, interlacing their fingers warm, damp.
The gland was a cluster of sensitive nerves. Outside of Heat, even this gentle bite amplified sensation unbearably. Their mingled pheromones Alpha and Omega drifted through the bathroom, subtle yet perfectly entwined.
Time blurred.
Jiang Yi bit his lip hard, leaning back against Yan Nanchen’s solid chest for support as his legs trembled. His breaths came uneven. “Done?”
“Done.”
Yan Nanchen straightened, studying the reddened gland, glistening faintly. He pressed another kiss there. “It’s swollen.”
Jiang Yi chuckled.
But this did little to ease Yan Nanchen’s unease about Jiang Yi’s condition.
The next day, a major breakthrough in their research project demanded their full attention. Alongside the team, they plunged into a series of clinical trials.
Jiang Yi finally managed to relax a little. Apart from Yan Nanchen constantly worrying about his embarrassing nosebleed issue monitoring his medication and meals things were relatively normal otherwise.
With a critical breakthrough in their progress, the two had been working overtime for several consecutive nights, joining the entire research institute’s scientific team in tackling the pivotal moment of advancing the detection technology for the impending secondary differentiation gene issue.
Perhaps they had pushed themselves too hard, as the nosebleeds persisted.
He was terrified of Yan Nanchen finding out, so he handled it himself most of the time. Fortunately, the bleeding wasn’t excessive, and Yan Nanchen hadn’t noticed. Once dealt with, it was usually fine.
Galaxy Research Institute Conference Room.
“This critical breakthrough in gene detection technology means the survival rate of the dominant secondary differentiation population can be increased by thirty percent. Our next step is determining drug selection upon detecting recessive or dominant cases.”
In front of the large screen, Yan Nanchen was summarizing their recent achievements. Below him sat the project researchers from Galaxy Group’s Galaxy Research Institute and the international team from Neptune Tech Group.
Jiang Yi had been listening attentively at first, but gradually, he began to feel lightheaded. Propping his head up, he lowered it slightly and instinctively touched his nose, only to find blood on his fingertips.
“Director Jiang, your nose is bleeding?”
Jiang Yi heard his assistant whisper beside him. Thankfully, the assistant discreetly handed him a tissue under the table. He took it quietly and asked in a hushed voice, “Is it a lot?”
The assistant shook his head. “Not really, just a little.”
Relieved, Jiang Yi quickly wiped his nose and considered stepping out to deal with it. But fearing Yan Nanchen might notice, he waited until Yan Nanchen turned around before standing up.
Just then, as Yan Nanchen turned sideways, Jiang Yi rose to leave only to suddenly feel the world spin around him, his face turning deathly pale.
“Director Jiang!!!”
“Regarding drug selection, it’s a challenge, especially during pregnancy” Yan Nanchen was mid-sentence when he caught Jiang Yi standing up in his peripheral vision. Assuming he was about to do something, he was startled by the assistant’s alarmed cry then saw Jiang Yi’s eyes close as he collapsed.
His pupils darkened instantly as he rushed forward. “Yi Yi!!!”
The sound of chairs scraping against the floor, panicked shouts, and urgent calls for an ambulance echoed in Jiang Yi’s ears, distant and muffled, as if coming from far away. He could hear them, but not clearly.
All he could faintly sense was a trembling hand caressing his cheek and the warm blood continuously flowing from his nose.
Perhaps because he knew who was holding him, he wasn’t too worried. In his heart, Yan Nanchen had wings even if something happened, he would fly to his side.
His heavy, exhausted eyelids slowly closed as he completely lost consciousness.
Yan Nanchen held Jiang Yi, who had suddenly fainted. The man in his arms was frighteningly pale, his complexion drained of color in an instant, yet his body burned with alarming heat. Yan Nanchen’s hands trembled as he pinched Jiang Yi’s nose, where blood kept flowing. Others nearby helped wipe it away, but the bleeding seemed unstoppable.
Was it another fever?
But he had been fine this morning. There hadn’t been any nosebleeds for the past two weeks, why now?
In that moment, his entire body went numb, his mind blank. Anxiety felt like hitting a dead end, spiraling endlessly again.
Why is this happening?
“President Yan, President Jiang’s nosebleed won’t stop.”
There were already many blood-stained tissues beside them, glaring and panic-inducing.
“Has the ambulance arrived?!” He could no longer contain his emotions and shouted, his eyes red, then picked up the unconscious Jiang Yi and quickly walked out of the meeting room: “Move aside, I’m going down first.”
The assistant following behind immediately rushed ahead to press the elevator.
After going downstairs, the ambulance arrived just in time. Yan Nanchen quickly walked to the ambulance, and the medical staff got out as fast as possible, pulling down the stretcher for him to place Jiang Yi on it.
