Has the Boss Bost His Temper Today? - Chapter 6
“Your dad is going to play ball, only…”
Duan Shiming walked out of the CEO’s office with his head held high and his chest out.
He had been criticized for dozing off during a meeting and was subjected to a spot check regarding the group’s emails. Luckily, he had a great memory and had finished reading all the emails that morning, allowing him to answer every question so fluently that the other party was left speechless.
They really underestimated him.
“There is a small meeting between the company and the group after next Tuesday’s seminar, you prepare an opening PPT.”
“What is the content of the PPT, President Chu?”
“Weren’t you listening just now?”
He closed the door, stood still, then suddenly whipped his head around to glare resentfully at the door, punching the air in a fit of pique.
Only after venting did he walk back to his workstation with light steps.
A mere PPT wouldn’t stump him!
The summer evening arrived silently.
As soon as six o’clock hit, a certain someone clocked out at sprint speed once again, flying downstairs and riding his mountain bike home happily.
Chu Yanzhou stopped as he passed the secretarial office, subconsciously glancing inside.
He saw the secretaries already packing up to leave, their movements and speed more orderly than ever before, looking as if they had been coached by an expert.
President Chu: “…”
The secretaries felt a sudden intuition, sensing a certain gaze. When they turned their heads, they saw their own President Chu standing at the door.
Chu Yanzhou thought to himself that it had only been two days, yet that fellow had already managed to infiltrate the ranks to such an extent. He raised the car keys in his hand: “Everyone, get home safely.”
He could only say his experience was too limited, he had never seen a little secretary who looked so unreliable work with such high efficiency.
That guy’s ability to summarize the group’s emails with such high refinement had truly made him look down on him.
He had intentionally increased the difficulty of the test, so it was slightly harder than the trial he gave when he first established the secretarial office, but he didn’t expect it wouldn’t stump Duan Shiming at all.
It even allowed the guy to get off work on time.
How could someone work as if they were playing, without a trace of “work fatigue” at all?
The twilight deepened as the black Maybach drove into the brightly lit parking lot.
Chu Yanzhou parked and turned off the engine. As he opened the door to get out, he happened to see two Alphas in black sportswear getting out of a silver-grey SUV not far away.
They were very tall with straight backs and deep wheat-colored skin, looking like fitness instructors.
He had encountered them a few times while walking the dog at night but had never spoken. They should be neighbors from downstairs, though the fact that they always insisted on taking the same elevator as him despite there being twelve elevators had caught his attention slightly.
As an adult with a sense of boundaries, even if they shared the same elevator, he wouldn’t say much.
It wasn’t until the elevator stopped on the 37th floor and Chu Yanzhou saw them walk out that he stopped paying much attention.
In the blink of an eye, it was eight o’clock in the evening, dog-walking time.
With a “beep,” the apartment door opened.
“Woof woof woof!”
Cullinan was like a convict being released from prison, charging out the door the moment it caught that exciting scent.
The next second, it was yanked back by the leash, its four paws dangling in the air as it swung.
From Cullinan’s perspective, its dad had already changed into black sportswear. Those long legs were incredibly long and eye-catching.
“What are you so excited about? Behave,” Chu Yanzhou knelt down and put the muzzle on the fellow.
Just then, the door on the other side opened with a “beep.”
“Cullinan”
“Nannan”
“Ow ow ow ow!” Hearing the voice, Cullinan began to twist its head, its tail wagging like a propeller as it tried to escape from its dad’s grasp.
“Hey!”
Duan Shiming suddenly jumped out from the side, holding both hands up to his ears like dog ears.
He originally wanted to scare Cullinan, but he didn’t expect that upon closer look, Chu Yanzhou was crouching alone in the foyer, looking at him as if he were an “idiot.”
Duan Shiming silently lowered his hands and gave an embarrassed, shy smile: “Nan’s dad is here too.”
“Mm, good evening, Xiao Duan.”
By unspoken agreement, the two stopped mentioning their frustrating work relationship. Now, it was a nighttime relationship between a dog owner and a dog walker.
“Ow ow ow” Feeling the leash loosen, Cullinan immediately rushed to Duan Shiming’s feet and began rubbing against his shoes.
Because of the heat, Duan Shiming had changed into a white sports suit. The knee-length shorts revealed straight, slender calves. Above his sneakers, the white sports socks with black stripes further accentuated the shape of his legs, a clean and fresh “college boy” aura radiating from him.
Cullinan rubbed even more joyfully. It was already hyped up, and now it was even more so.
Duan Shiming grabbed the leash that had fallen to the ground. Hmph, tonight he would definitely show Cullinan his skills in dog training!
Chu Yanzhou glanced at this “simp dog” and couldn’t bear to watch any longer. He stood up straight: “You go walk it.”
This dog was usually picky about people and wasn’t willing to be walked by just anyone.
“Are you going too?” Duan Shiming saw that Chu Yanzhou had changed into sportswear, and at first glance, he looked surprisingly young.
“You walk the dog,” Chu Yanzhou stepped aside and picked up the mineral water sitting on the foyer cabinet, “I’m going to play ball.”
Duan Shiming: “Oh.” He saw Cullinan still rubbing against his shoes: “Let’s go, Nannan.”
Cullinan became instantly excited upon hearing “let’s go,” then turned its head to look at Chu Yanzhou.
Duan Shiming tugged the leash: “Stop looking at your dad, your dad is going to play ball, only I am walking you.”
That word “dad” echoed clearly in the hallway.
Because it was called out so naturally, a hint of intimacy that was hard to detect fell into it unnoticed, causing a subtle feeling to rise in their hearts after the fact.
“Awoo” Cullinan let out a howl, showing no lingering attachment to its dad as it happily and excitedly followed Duan Shiming away.
The elevator doors opened and Duan Shiming walked in, only to find that Chu Yanzhou hadn’t followed.
He held the elevator button and poked his head out: “Hey, Nannan’s dad, aren’t you coming?”
Cullinan also poked its head out by his feet.
The hallway lights were bright. Seeing a person and a dog poking their heads out of the elevator, their eyes equally round, Chu Yanzhou’s heart felt as if it had been stepped on.
Chu Yanzhou unscrewed the mineral water, took a sip with his head tilted back, then replaced the cap expressionlessly and walked forward.
The night garden was heavy with silence, the warm glow of the streetlights spilling down.
Before long, the noise broke the tranquility.
“Woo-hoo!”
The small wheels of a twist car rolled rapidly across the ground with a whirring sound.
One could see a medium-sized Beagle running joyfully in front, while the young man behind, holding the leash, sat with his legs bent on a child’s twist car, calling out different commands and occasionally taking out small snacks as rewards.
“Hey, right, keep this speed.”
“As expected, our Cullinan is the world’s most amazing carriage driver~”
“Slower, slower, a bit faster, okay! A treat for good Cullinan!”
“Faster, faster, slow down, very good, come to my side, break! Can’t go near the grass, can’t go near the trash can, very good, a treat for good Cullinan.”
Duan Shiming sat leisurely on the twist car, the wind messing up the hair on his forehead, looking incredibly comfortable.
His hands gripped the leash and the steering wheel of the twist car, his brows arched with laziness. Occasionally, he gave the rope a light tug to control the direction, stopping and running while giving commands, rewarding with a snack whenever a command was completed.
Just like that, he did a dozen laps on the community’s kilometer-long track using the twist car and commands.
“Whew.”
Cullinan’s speed finally slowed down.
Only then did Duan Shiming get off the twist car. He stood up and gave the leash a light tug: “Cullinan, come.”
Cullinan ran back to Duan Shiming’s side quickly. Perhaps smelling the scent on him, its nose moved close to his ankle to sniff, even wanting to stick out its tongue to lick.
Duan Shiming recognized its intention. He wrapped the leash around his wrist, bent down, and held a snack in his palm near Cullinan’s nose, stepping back two paces: “Cullinan, walk.”
Cullinan’s attention was immediately diverted by the snack, and it obediently followed Duan Shiming’s hand.
Duan Shiming used the snack to lure it for a short distance, praised it as a “good little dog” a couple of times, then stopped: “Cullinan, sit.”
Cullinan sat obediently on the spot and had a snack stuffed into its mouth. After eating, it lowered its head again to lick Duan Shiming’s ankle.
Duan Shiming immediately tugged the leash.
“Whimper!” Cullinan started shaking its head.
Duan Shiming took out a snack and continued to lure Cullinan forward.
Cullinan’s eyes brightened as it followed closely.
“Cullinan, sit,” Duan Shiming stopped.
Cullinan looked up and sat down, a snack rolling into its mouth. After eating, it lowered its head to lick the ankle, only to be tugged by the leash, making it raise its head.
Duan Shiming took the opportunity to drop to one knee, moving his hand holding the food left, right, up, and down.
Cullinan followed this scented hand, moving left when it went left, and right when it went right.
Duan Shiming smiled and placed his hand near his own ankle.
Cullinan didn’t move, it just stared. Perhaps seeing that Duan Shiming hadn’t made a move for a long time, it grew anxious, occasionally looking up or reaching out a paw.
Duan Shiming wanted Cullinan to obey his commands. Whether it was being anxious or waiting, it meant his goal was achieved. Moreover, he discovered that this dog liked his ankles, meaning he had a temptation on him that worked just like the snacks.
Delayed gratification was also a means of obedience training.
“Cullinan.”
Seeing Duan Shiming’s hand leave his ankle, Cullinan stared at him pitifully.
Duan Shiming put his hand behind his back: “Cullinan, sniff.”
Cullinan immediately leaned in to sniff and rub against Duan Shiming’s ankle, its tail wagging happily.
After about a few seconds, Duan Shiming tugged the leash again and stood up.
Cullinan stopped its actions immediately.
Duan Shiming gripped the leash and began walking along the edge of the grass. Whenever Cullinan pulled ahead of him, he tugged the rope. After a few repetitions, Cullinan could basically receive the signal of the rope tug, and he would give a snack as a reward.
He would also lengthen the leash to let Cullinan run in the grass for a bit, then with a shout of “come,” the fellow would return, and he’d give another reward.
If every command was completed, he would reward it by letting it sniff his ankle.
“Cullinan was very great today, our Cullinan is truly a great dog!”
“Woof!”
Chu Yanzhou had just come out of the elevator when he saw Duan Shiming walking over with his Cullinan. His rebellious son was sticking close to the other’s feet, wagging its tail submissively, looking as loyal as a dog could be.
It was as if it had found a new owner.
It seemed to have completely forgotten his instructions.
He had seen everything clearly from the second-floor sky garden. This dog training expert had truly tamed his house-wrecking demon of a Beagle. If the dog were ever missing, it would surely be with Duan Shiming.
“Hey, isn’t this Nan’s dad?” Seeing it was Chu Yanzhou, Duan Shiming’s brow twitched as if he had thought of a trick, so he let go of the leash.
Seeing its owner, Cullinan naturally ran over.
Chu Yanzhou thought to himself that at least the dog was still his. He bent down, preparing to pull up Cullinan’s leash.
“Cullinan, sniff.”
Before Chu Yanzhou’s hand could touch the leash, the dog sprinted back to Duan Shiming: “…?”
Cullinan knelt on all fours at Duan Shiming’s feet, its nose pressed against the other’s ankle, its tail wagging so fast it was almost a propeller.
Chu Yanzhou: “…” This simp dog.
“Cullinan, sit.”
Cullinan sat obediently.
Duan Shiming added: “Cullinan, heel.”
Cullinan immediately picked up its own leash in its mouth and looked up to hand it to Duan Shiming, like a loyal little knight.
Duan Shiming smiled as he took the leash, pulled out a snack to stuff into Cullinan’s mouth, then rubbed its little head: “Cullinan is a great dog, sniff.”
Cullinan excitedly lay down, its nose approaching Duan Shiming’s ankle again, sniffing the scent it liked.
The calves revealed under the knee-length shorts were indeed beautiful, long and straight, with the refined boniness unique to a male frame, white socks wrapping around slender ankles.
His dog was conquered by this pair of legs.
Chu Yanzhou had a strange look on his face, his mood subtle.
“Cullinan didn’t bolt once tonight, it was so good.” Duan Shiming pulled Cullinan over to Chu Yanzhou and handed him the leash: “Now I’m giving it back to you.”
Chu Yanzhou saw the soft curve of his eyes. It seemed that his earlier difficulties hadn’t left any mark on him; the childish act of revenge had collapsed on its own, and he had even tamed the Beagle.
He thought this guy would quit after two days.
It seemed this fellow was now competing with him.
Chu Yanzhou took the leash: “As expected, professional tasks should be left to professional people.”
Duan Shiming stood with his hands on his hips, the corners of his lips turning up slightly: “Then can we sign the contract now?”
Chu Yanzhou wrapped the leash around his wrist to prevent the dog from running off with the person: “It seems you have no intention of giving up.”
“Give up on what?” Duan Shiming reached out to press the elevator button, stepped into the elevator first, turned around, and faced Chu Yanzhou, who was still outside: “I am not someone who gives up easily.”
The elevator space was spacious and bright, and it seemed the light was being drawn into that beautiful face radiating cleverness and spirit.
Chu Yanzhou let out a light laugh: “Is that so? Then I’ll wait and see, Comrade Xiao Duan.”
