Luring Her to Take the Bait - Chapter 20
One week after their official public announcement, Pei Wenjin’s image completely collapsed in front of Fu Su.
It happened like this: that evening, Fu Su managed to leave work early for once and planned to clear out the vegetables in the fridge.
“Shall we go to the supermarket together next time?” Pei Wenjin leaned against the counter, tucking back her flowing curly hair.
“Mm… tomorrow?” Fu Su’s tone was indifferent. She picked up a handful of green beans and a box of chicken wings before finally giving her a glance. “Saturday.”
“That works, a day off,” Pei Wenjin nodded. She sidled up to her to peer into the fridge, then flicked a finger. “Oh, there’s passion fruit.”
Fu Su looked at her, her eyes landing on the bright yellow passion fruit. “How do you want to eat it?”
She had originally intended to make fruit tea; Pei Wenjin didn’t like drinking plain water and preferred things sweet and sour.
“Is there beef at home?”
“I want to eat Passion Fruit Sour Soup Beef,” Pei Wenjin said. She turned to look at Fu Su, blinking her bright eyes and licking her lips with great anticipation. “Can Susu make it?”
The small mole beneath Fu Su’s eye twitched. “I can learn.”
Oh, she can learn.
Suddenly, a pebble dropped into the depths of Pei Wenjin’s heart with a plop.
She was learning it specifically for her, right?
“Oh, then I can give you a kiss too.” She nodded, lifting a pair of innocent, clear eyes. She reached out to wrap her arms around Fu Su’s neck.
“?” Fu Su’s brows furrowed, and she raised a hand to block the movement. “What are you doing?”
“Kissing you~”
“Reason.”
“Reward!” Pei Wenjin bypassed her arm and hugged her anyway, her eyes dancing with smiles. “You make me delicious food, I give you a kiss~”
“Isn’t that a great deal?”
“What kind of logic is that?” Fu Su’s lips tightened. She turned to leave but was hooked by the neck and pulled back. In the end, she couldn’t resist as Pei Wenjin landed a kiss on her.
Pei Wenjin pouted her lips coquettishly, wrinkled her nose, and began to push her luck. “Can it be twice a day?”
“Sometimes I don’t even see you in the morning; you go to the law firm right after making breakfast, and you come back so late at night.”
“I can’t kiss you all day, so I have to make up for it!”
Pei Wenjin’s eyes were wide and round, acting quite willfully. Fu Su sighed softly and tapped her chin with a fingertip. “Once.”
“Hmph!”
She bit down directly on Fu Su’s chin, leaving behind wet saliva, sounding quite resentful. “Badie!”
“Not even letting me kiss your face a few times, badie!”
In truth, Fu Su didn’t even know when this “one kiss a day” thing had started.
Fu Su’s expression remained cold. She wiped her chin with the back of her finger, looked down, then lifted her cool eyelids again. “You’re so big and yet you’re still drooling.”
Pei Wenjin froze, her face instantly flushing red. Her cheeks puffed out like a pufferfish as she scolded her again, “Mean person!”
With that, she turned and ran off, splashing Fu Su’s face with her hair. Fu Su squinted and raised a hand to rub her nose. Watching her throw herself onto the sofa, she furrowed her brows helplessly.
The prelude to the image collapse began here.
Fu Su was preparing the ingredients according to a tutorial. She had just chopped the tomatoes and passion fruit and was placing the clay pot onto the induction cooker when the overhead light suddenly went out. The faint hum of the kitchen air conditioner also stopped, as if it could no longer bear the burden.
The house grew dim. The deep blue of the sky seeped in, just enough to make out shapes.
Fu Su calmly glanced toward the living room. She didn’t see Pei Wenjin and didn’t know where she had tucked herself away. She washed and dried her hands, then took out her phone to check the electricity bill.
The balance was sufficient. She pondered for a moment, opened WeChat, and entered the property management group, only then seeing the power outage notice.
It had been sent at 3:00 PM: a circuit overhaul from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Power would be out for three hours; the refrigerator’s power would remain unaffected.
While there were candles at home, there was no way to use the induction cooker.
Fu Su looked at the prepared vegetables and sliced meat, her brows knitting together.
She untied her apron and tucked it into the cabinet. Fu Su stepped out of the kitchen and called out, “Pei Wenjin.”
No response.
She checked the study and the gym, but no one was there. Fu Su walked toward her bedroom. Through the ajar door, she spotted Pei Wenjin. Her back was to the door, and she was doing something unknown.
Knock, knock, knock. Fu Su tapped three times. “Pei Wenjin, the power—”
Pei Wenjin was startled. The moment she turned around, Fu Su felt as if she were looking at a spooked rabbit. Her eyes were wide, her shoulders hunched, and in her hands, she held a piece of black underwear.
Her lower face… was buried right in it.
What is the situation here…
Fu Su swallowed the rest of her sentence. For the first time, she showed a look of utter confusion. Her gaze swept up and down, she swallowed again, and then calmly looked away. Her voice was so low it was almost inaudible. “Next time, remember to close the door.”
Pei Wenjin was completely mortified. Fu Su even considerately closed the door for her.
No, wait, she could explain!
Susu wouldn’t think she was a pervert for smelling her own underwear, would she?!
She wouldn’t divorce a pervert, right?!
Swish! She pulled the door open and rushed out. “Susu, listen to my explanation!”
Pei Wenjin lunged forward and grabbed Fu Su’s clothes. She was going crazy, her eyes darting around as she blurted everything out.
“I just happened to scroll past a post saying that girls’ underwear is always fragrant because there are Montgomery glands on the breasts that emit a vanilla scent.”
“I was curious, so I just took a sniff.”
Pei Wenjin emphasized: “I was curious.”
Fu Su’s gaze dropped gently to her chin, her breathing very light. “And the result?”
“Uh,” Pei Wenjin paused. her clear eyes flickered to the left, and she licked her lips. “It’s fragrant…”
It was more than just fragrant. She hadn’t just sniffed it once; she had sniffed it several times and was practically intoxicated by it.
In fact…
Pei Wenjin’s eyes drifted restlessly toward Fu Su, glancing at her full chest. She swallowed, her earlobes burning.
She wanted to smell Susu’s.
Her eyes were suddenly covered. In the blink of an eye, her eyelashes brushed against the other woman’s palm. Perhaps because it tickled, her fingers twitched. Pei Wenjin could hear the sound of her own blood rushing.
Fu Su said, “Where are you looking?”
As she spoke, a scent of cold sandalwood brushed past Pei Wenjin’s nose. Pei Wenjin pursed her lips and blinked her eyelashes again; she could feel the fuzzy sensation.
She said sheepishly, “…I wasn’t looking anywhere.”
“Heh.” Fu Susuddenly let out a thin laugh. She whispered, “Little lecher.”
As night fell, Fu Su’s calm voice leaped into her ears. Pei Wenjin’s lower back suddenly felt an itch that traveled all the way to the back of her neck.
So attractive.
Susu’s voice was so attractive.
Pei Wenjin’s tone became cheerful. “Say it again, Susu.”
The implication was: Scold me again, I enjoyed hearing that.
Thus, Pei Wenjin once again saw Fu Su’s expression become unreadable as her lips parted as if she were hesitating to speak.
She didn’t care. Her thoughts had been seen through, and she had been scolded, but suddenly her nervousness vanished. She opened her eyes wide and stared straight at the body wrapped in the white shirt.
Then, her chin was tilted up by a fingertip. Fu Su pushed her chin higher, her narrowed eyes making her snow-pure face look a bit fierce. “Still looking.”
“What’s wrong with looking? You won’t let me kiss, and now you won’t let me look. Susu, you’re so mean.” Pei Wenjin tilted her neck back, her words a bit slurred as she took a breath. “If you think I’m taking advantage of you, then take advantage of me back.”
“I’ll definitely let you kiss me—I’d even strip naked for you to see!”
Fu Su’s jaw clenched, as if she were grinding her teeth. After scrutinizing Pei Wenjin’s shameless face for a few seconds, she let go of her and turned toward the kitchen. Her voice was cold and indifferent. “We’re going out to eat tonight.”
“Ah—” Pei Wenjin felt wronged. She chased after her and hooked her finger. Knowing she had been quite bold just now, she squeezed her voice into a cute tone. “Susu, I want to eat what you make. I don’t want to go out. You promised to make me Passion Fruit Sour Soup Beef.”
“The power is out.” Fu Su sighed. “We can’t use electricity.”
“The power is out?” Pei Wenjin realized belatedly. She looked around and finally noticed that the sky was completely dark, and there were no lights nearby.
“I’ll make it tomorrow. We’re eating out tonight.” Fu Su negotiated with her. “Or we go home, to mother’s place.”
“I don’t want to go home,” Pei Wenjin said directly.
Because she still had some lingering thoughts of wanting to be alone with Fu Su.
“But,” Pei Wenjin glanced at her cautiously, looking down and twiddling her fingers, “it’s the fortieth floor. I don’t want to walk down the stairs.”
“…” Truly difficult to serve.
Fu Su: “Then delivery? Or wait for the power to come back before cooking? The vegetables are already prepared.”
Pei Wenjin hesitated.
She didn’t want to choose either.
“There’s no power; the delivery guy would have to climb the stairs too. And cooking at ten o’clock… aren’t you busy tonight?”
One night, Pei Wenjin had woken up and gone out to get some water, only to find the light in the office was on. After observing for a few days, she realized that Fu Su actually went to bed very late every night and woke up early. She was so, so busy, working at her desk for almost twenty hours a day. Could her body really handle it?
Without waiting for Fu Su to speak, Pei Wenjin spoke up first, her expression especially sincere.
“Susu, how about we just sleep now? The sky is dark anyway.”
Fu Su raised an eyebrow. Her hip leaned lazily against the kitchen island, her voice sounding a bit lazy too. “Now?”
“It’s a bit early. I’m not tired.”
She looked past the floor-to-ceiling windows toward the distance. She pulled over a bar stool and sat on it, propping her elbows on the counter and pressing her temples.
Pei Wenjin also pulled over a bar stool and sat down, one foot hooked on the rung while her other leg swung gently. she rested her head on her arms, watching Fu Su.
Looking at the sky from this angle, one could see a clear moon. In this thin light and thick darkness, Fu Su’s face seemed to take on layers of depth, veiling her always-clear eyes. Pei Wenjin suddenly felt a very subtle emotion.
Her heart was like the moon—uneven and cratered.
She felt that Susu was so tired.
It wasn’t the kind of tiredness after exercising and sweating, nor the kind of tiredness where you just want to collapse into bed after a day of work.
Rather, it was like the sea—vast and boundless. When a wave crashed over, she didn’t even want to struggle; she just let the salty seawater pour into her lungs, invading her organs and every bone in her body, making her feel as heavy as lead.
“Let’s go out to eat,” Pei Wenjin suddenly said, her sweet voice abruptly breaking the overly silent air.
“Then, we’ll go to mother’s to sleep and come back tomorrow.”
Pei Wenjin looked at her directly. Fu Su turned her head, her gaze dropping gently. Her indifferent, cold stare was like that of a descending deity, devoid of worldly emotions.
Pei Wenjin suddenly snuggled into Fu Su’s arms, hugging her thin frame. She looked up with watery eyes. “Pat my head.”
Fu Su was somewhat surprised.
Pei Wenjin explained very obediently: “Because I want to pat your head.”
“I’m going to take advantage of you.”
“So you take advantage of me first.”
She rubbed against Fu Su like a kitten. “Susu, pat me~”
