You Are My Omega - Chapter 80
Lin Xinyi had once imagined that if she revealed the scratch on her gland in front of Xu Shijiu, maybe Xu Shijiu would feel concern, maybe even a little distress. But the moment she actually saw her, her instincts kicked in and she covered it up.
Xu Shijiu’s gaze was simply too cold. Lin Xinyi couldn’t find even a trace of difference in how she looked at her compared to Yi Lu. She didn’t dare assume that she still held any special place in Xu Shijiu’s heart.
And clearly, her assumptions were right. Her restraint was justified. If she had exposed her injury in hopes of sympathy, she likely would’ve received nothing but indifference in return.
The gland was a fragile place, especially for Omegas. More delicate than an Alpha’s. Both Yi Lu and Lin Xinyi had gone at each other ruthlessly. As soon as Yi Lu left the company, she went home and had her family doctor treat her injuries. Lin Xinyi, on the other hand, simply applied some medicine herself, stuck on a bandage, and left it at that.
The next day, Lin Xinyi returned to the president’s office—this time with her agent.
Xu Shijiu’s warning still echoed in her mind. After being kicked out yesterday, Lin Xinyi had been lost. She had no idea how to get closer to Xu Shijiu again. She never expected an opportunity to come knocking so soon.
“Miss Lin, the purpose of this visit is to finalize your future development plan. If you have any thoughts or preferences, feel free to share them at any time,” her agent said respectfully as they walked toward the office, arms full of documents.
Lin Xinyi nodded silently. Just before they reached the office, she asked, “Does every artist in the company need to finalize their development plan directly with President Xu?”
“No,” her agent replied, shaking their head.
“Huh?” Lin Xinyi was stunned.
Then why did she have to do it with Xu Shijiu present?
“I’m not sure either. Normally I just draft a full proposal, hand it off to the president or the secretary, and it gets processed that way,” the agent explained, clearly a bit puzzled. This had never happened before.
But Lin Xinyi was a well-known actress abroad, had once lived in the Xu household, and had been engaged to the current president. Naturally, someone like her would be treated with special care.
Thinking about it that way, it didn’t seem so strange.
“I see…” Lin Xinyi lowered her head thoughtfully. Just as she started to feel a flicker of hope, it was extinguished. She knew this couldn’t have been Xu Shijiu’s idea.
It just wasn’t possible.
Yesterday, Xu Shijiu had yelled at them, told them not to show up without notice again. Why would she suddenly give her this kind of opportunity?
And sure enough, Lin Xinyi’s instincts were correct. The moment Xu Shijiu saw her enter, the calm in her eyes vanished, replaced by rising fury.
“Why are you here?” Xu Shijiu’s voice was sharp, the reprimand unmistakable.
Lin Xinyi lowered her head in silence. Even if she had a valid reason, in front of Xu Shijiu it suddenly felt invalid.
The agent hadn’t expected this kind of scene at all. Seeing the president clearly unhappy, they awkwardly stepped forward to explain. “President Xu, your secretary instructed me to bring Miss Lin up to discuss her upcoming career direction.”
“Secretary?” Xu Shijiu frowned. She didn’t recall her secretary mentioning anything like this.
“Yes, President Xu,” the agent replied, slightly confused. To prove they weren’t lying, they stood firm in their tone.
There was no need to think further. This was definitely her older sister’s doing.
On the surface, Xu Shijiu remained composed, but inside she was gritting her teeth. She hated how her sister constantly meddled, yet she was powerless to stop her.
“If you weren’t informed, should we just go through the usual process instead? We don’t want to disturb you,” the agent offered tactfully.
Since entering the office, Lin Xinyi had kept her head down and said nothing. Even the agent could tell the tension between the two was palpable. It was obvious their relationship wasn’t good.
Hearing the agent’s suggestion, Lin Xinyi clenched her hands and suddenly lifted her head, her eyes fixed brightly on Xu Shijiu. She didn’t want it to end like this. Not after finally getting even a sliver of time with her.
But she couldn’t speak up. Xu Shijiu would only become more annoyed, more distant. All she could do was wait for her judgment.
“Fine. Since my sister insisted, I’ll do it for her,” Xu Shijiu finally said.
She agreed, but made sure to emphasize that she was only doing it because her sister had requested it. Lin Xinyi didn’t know whether to be happy that Xu Shijiu said yes, or upset that the only reason was someone else’s intervention.
“Thank you, President Xu. Here’s a proposal I prepared. Please take a look,” the agent said quickly, placing the documents on the desk. Once Xu Shijiu picked them up and began reading, they started explaining their plans and ideas.
They talked for what felt like a long time. Or maybe not long at all.
Lin Xinyi didn’t know. Her eyes had never left Xu Shijiu.
She watched her openly, her gaze warm and intense. Even when the agent subtly tried to nudge her back to attention, she didn’t notice.
Xu Shijiu had changed so much over the past three years. In many ways, she was like a different person. But some of her little habits remained the same. Lin Xinyi found herself holding on to those small movements, using them to remind herself that this was still the same woman she had once known.
In these three years away, Xu Shijiu had become better, stronger.
And that made Lin Xinyi start to doubt herself.
Maybe her return wasn’t a good thing.
Maybe Xu Shijiu was better off without her.
Maybe she should never have come back at all.
Currently, Xu Entertainment has three leading stars. The first is Liu Lingyan, the company’s first actress to win a Best Actress award. The second is Lin Xinyi, who achieved the same honor at a young age. The third is Yi Lu, a popular idol group member and rising star.
The development and positioning of these three artists are extremely important to Xu Entertainment. Given Lin Xinyi’s current status in the industry, she should have been part of the conversation regarding her future direction. However, Xu Shijiu chose not to bring it up at the time. She never expected things to turn out the way they eventually did.
The agent had a long discussion with Xu Shijiu. Once they had reached a general understanding, the agent quickly went to ask Lin Xinyi for her opinion.
“Lin Xinyi, do you want to focus on films or television dramas? And are you open to participating in variety shows?”
Xu Shijiu lifted her eyes and met Lin Xinyi’s gaze.
At that moment, Lin Xinyi heard the heavy beating of her own heart. She felt an overwhelming surge of happiness. But in the next second, she saw the coldness in Xu Shijiu’s eyes. Her joy instantly vanished. It felt like her heart fell into an abyss and shattered completely, leaving her wounded and broken.
It was like someone trapped in complete darkness who finally saw a glimmer of light, thinking there was hope. Then, just as quickly, that light disappeared again.
Everything returned to darkness.
“Xinyi. Lin Xinyi!”
The voice that pulled her back to reality was the agent’s anxious shout. His hand shook hers roughly, snapping her out of her daze.
Lin Xinyi turned her head slowly, her movements stiff and mechanical. She avoided Xu Shijiu’s cold stare and asked hoarsely, “What is it?”
“What is it? I should be asking you that!” the agent whispered near her ear, his teeth clenched. When he saw how pale her face was as she turned to him, he was startled. “Are you feeling sick? Is your gland injury infected?”
“I’m fine.” Lin Xinyi shook her head slightly, then lowered her eyes and apologized to Xu Shijiu. “I’m sorry, President Xu. I was distracted and didn’t hear the conversation.”
“The agent will ask one more time. If you cannot give an answer now, then there is no need to continue.” Xu Shijiu’s voice was cold. The closeness between the agent and Lin Xinyi was irritating to her, even though the agent was just an ordinary person.
The agent was surprised by how harsh President Xu’s attitude toward Miss Lin was, but he quickly nodded and said, “Understood, President Xu. You can rely on me.”
Lin Xinyi was still stealing glances at Xu Shijiu from the corner of her eye. The next moment, the agent stepped in front of her and completely blocked her view. Lin Xinyi finally looked up at him. She instinctively took a small step back. Even though they were both women, Lin Xinyi was still not comfortable being physically close to someone she was not familiar with.
This time, she stayed focused. The rest of the conversation went smoothly. Seeing how well things were going, the agent became even more protective. He did not notice that Lin Xinyi’s fists were tightly clenched or that she was silently fighting her rising frustration.
“Then it’s settled. You may leave now.” Xu Shijiu took the final confirmation documents handed to her. “Miss Lin’s public relations team is already in place. They can handle any situation that may come up. However, I hope Miss Lin does not create unnecessary pressure for the staff.”
This was both a reminder and a warning.
“I won’t cause any trouble,” Lin Xinyi replied, biting her lip. She still could not get used to Xu Shijiu’s cold and professional tone.
“I hope Miss Lin can bring greater value to Xu Entertainment.”
“I will.”
If Lin Xinyi had not stubbornly gone to find Xu Manyue back then and signed the contract renewal, she would not even be part of Xu Entertainment now. And if Xu Shijiu were not currently the president of the company and responsible for its operations, she probably would not have agreed to see Lin Xinyi at all.
