You Are My Omega - Chapter 79
Yi Lu and Lin Xinyi had never met before. They had never exchanged a word, let alone formed any sort of relationship. Yet somehow, it felt like the two of them were perfectly in sync. Lin Xinyi always showed up around noon, while Yi Lu tended to visit in the evening. They did not come every day, but whenever one Omega appeared, the other would follow either on the same day or the next. If it was not planned, then the coincidence was simply uncanny. Their perfectly timed arrivals were enough to drive Xu Shijiu to the edge of madness.
She had even imagined what might happen if the two of them arrived at the same time and ran into each other. Maybe then they would turn their focus onto one another instead of on her. Maybe that would finally give her some peace. Yi Lu did not stir any emotions in her, but her persistence was exhausting. Lin Xinyi, on the other hand, was a torment. Every visit from her shook Xu Shijiu to her core.
Xu Shijiu felt like prey caught in a spider’s web. She kept struggling, hoping to free herself, but Lin Xinyi continued wrapping her in thread, layer by layer, holding her tight. Even though Lin Xinyi never stayed longer than ten minutes and only spoke about work, her presence still managed to unsettle her completely.
Her secretary noticed how drained she had become and offered a suggestion.
“Would you like me to start turning away Miss Yi and Miss Lin from now on?”
“Yes. Stop them both going forward,” Xu Shijiu said, rubbing her temples. Yi Lu did not matter, but if Lin Xinyi kept coming, she was afraid she might fall even deeper into the feelings she had tried so hard to suppress.
The secretary nodded and stepped out. In her heart, she knew that if President Xu truly did not want to see them, she could have given that order long ago. The delay spoke for itself.
Not even ten minutes later, the secretary returned again.
“President Xu, Miss Yi and Miss Lin ran into each other at the elevator. They were both carrying lunch boxes.”
“So what if they did?” Xu Shijiu replied calmly, though she silently cursed how her passing thought had become reality so quickly.
“Are you sure we should not step in? Things might get tense. Two rivals, both high-profile Omegas, one an A-list actress and the other a nationally beloved idol. If anything happens between them, the headlines will explode in minutes.”
“There is no need to intervene,” Xu Shijiu answered without emotion. But as soon as the secretary left, she immediately opened the surveillance system and pulled up the camera feed to watch what would unfold.
Yi Lu had only started visiting Xu Group after Lin Xinyi’s return. She did not know the full story between Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi, but she did know Lin Xinyi had once been her fiancée. She knew Lin Xinyi was a top-tier Omega, a global star in the film industry, and the youngest ever recipient of the Best Actress award.
Lin Xinyi, meanwhile, did not know what kind of relationship Yi Lu had with Xu Shijiu. But she did remember the scent of Omega pheromones that had lingered in the air the night she returned. It had smelled like a floral perfume, and now she recognized it as Yi Lu’s. A quick search online was all it took to confirm what she looked like.
One of them stepped out of the employee elevator. The other emerged from the executive one. The moment their eyes met, both Omegas recognized each other.
“Yi Lu.”
“Lin Xinyi.”
The tension between them was immediate. Their gazes carried open hostility.
“This elevator is for President Xu’s use only,” Yi Lu said with a smile that did not reach her eyes. “It seems the great actress forgot the rules.”
What she really felt was jealousy. She resented the fact that Lin Xinyi knew the code to Xu Shijiu’s private elevator.
When she found out Lin Xinyi had returned to the country, Yi Lu immediately felt threatened. It was absurd, really. Xu Shijiu had never responded to her efforts. Not once. That silence should have made it clear where she stood. She meant nothing. Yet just knowing Lin Xinyi had returned filled her with anxiety.
Despite all that, she could not deny one fact. Ever since their childhood engagement ended, Xu Shijiu had never shown her any warmth. Not once.
“I see. I am sorry,” Lin Xinyi replied politely. “I have always used this elevator whenever I visit. I only just returned to the country, so I am still adjusting. President Xu did not mention anything about it.”
Her words sounded apologetic, but every sentence implied that if President Xu had no problem with it, then Yi Lu had no right to speak.
Watching from the monitor, Xu Shijiu let out a bitter laugh. Not mention it? She had reminded Lin Xinyi countless times. Did she ever listen? No. She had ignored her every time. Now, after three years, her skin seemed even thicker than before.
“Lin Xinyi, you hurt President Xu. You left her. Why did you come back?” Yi Lu said, her voice sharp.
“First, yes, I made her sad,” Lin Xinyi answered steadily. “But did you not as well? Second, I am your senior in this industry. If your fans saw you addressing me this way, what would they think?”
Her tone was calm and unshaken.
That first part was a guess. But the moment she saw Yi Lu’s face change, she knew she had been right.
So the relationship between Yi Lu and Xu Shijiu was more than professional. There was something personal there too, even beyond the connections Yi Lu’s father had.
“After Shijiu’s injury, she closed herself off. You were the one who managed to reach her. And then you were the one who pushed her away again. Do you really think she will forgive you? Do you think she wants to see you again? Do you think she does not resent your presence?”
Yi Lu’s words were like poisoned needles, stabbing into Lin Xinyi’s heart. But they also pierced her own. Because the truth was, she had hurt Xu Shijiu as well. Everything she said now was not only an attack on Lin Xinyi but also a harsh reminder to herself.
“Then I return those words to you exactly as you said them,” Lin Xinyi replied coldly.
Her hands clenched unconsciously. Her lips turned pale.
Everything Yi Lu had said was true. She could not deny a single word. And there was something even worse, something Yi Lu had not mentioned but which haunted Lin Xinyi the most.
Whenever she tried to approach Xu Shijiu, she could see the fear in her eyes.
Xu Shijiu was afraid of her now.
And Lin Xinyi had no idea how to erase that fear.
Neither of them realized that every word of their conversation was being heard by Xu Shijiu through the surveillance system, and every expression was being captured clearly by the security camera.
Just as Xu Shijiu was breathing a sigh of relief, thinking the two Omegas were only exchanging words and standing far apart with no real conflict in sight, she removed her earpiece and looked away from the screen for just one second. When she looked back up, the monitor showed the two Omegas physically fighting. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
The secretary burst through the door.
“President Xu, Miss Lin and Miss Yi are fighting!”
This was exactly why she had warned that putting two romantic rivals in the same place was bound to end in chaos.
When two Omegas released their pheromones at the same time, hostility could flare up in an instant. The resulting impulsive reactions were unpredictable. The secretary had once witnessed two calm and elegant Omegas claw at each other over an Alpha. Even now, she was unsure whether to be shocked or simply resigned.
“I saw it,” Xu Shijiu said through gritted teeth. Of course she saw it. The surveillance system was working just fine. Everything had played out right in front of her eyes.
“So now what should we do?” the secretary asked cautiously. She didn’t dare act without orders.
“I will handle it,” Xu Shijiu said, completely exasperated. These two Omegas always carried themselves with such composure. How had it come to this?
She arrived just in time. One second later and they would have been pulling each other’s hair out. That kind of pain was not something either of them would tolerate well, especially since they both cared about their image.
“What do you think you’re doing? Do you think my company is some kind of public brawl arena?” Xu Shijiu shouted furiously.
The sound of her voice froze both Omegas in place. Their hands, which had been gripping each other’s hair, stopped mid-motion.
Lin Xinyi instinctively reached up and covered her gland. In all her memories, she had never once exposed her gland in front of Xu Shijiu. Even the time Xu Shijiu had tried to rip off her pheromone blocker, she had stopped herself at the very last second.
Yi Lu, in contrast, made no effort to hide hers. A few red scratches near her gland were clearly visible, made by Lin Xinyi’s fingernails.
There were no other injuries, which meant the fight had been focused entirely on attacking each other’s weakest spot—the gland. That also meant Lin Xinyi’s gland was likely injured as well.
Xu Shijiu assessed the situation quickly. She could not smell Yi Lu’s pheromones, but the gardenia scent lingering in the air made her chest tighten. Her own gland felt slightly swollen. A wave of dizziness swept over her. Her expression briefly faltered.
Gardenia. The fragrance was intoxicating. If not for the interference of Yi Lu’s unknown floral pheromone, the scent of Lin Xinyi’s pheromones alone would have been enough to trap her in a haze she might not easily come out of.
She shot a dark look at Yi Lu’s exposed gland, then turned to Lin Xinyi’s trembling hand, still pressed against her own. Her voice was laced with fury.
“This is a company. What do you think this place is? A market square?”
“Two Omegas, both public figures in the entertainment industry, fighting openly in my building. Have either of you lost your minds?”
“I am sorry, President Xu. I should not have acted like that,” Yi Lu said quickly. This was the first time she had ever seen Xu Shijiu this angry, and it frightened her.
“I’m sorry,” Lin Xinyi said quietly, her head lowered. Her gland throbbed painfully beneath her hand. Her emotions hit rock bottom.
“Both of you, leave,” Xu Shijiu ordered coldly. “Do not come here again. If you have anything to say, tell your agents to speak with me.”
There was no special treatment for either Omega.
