You Are My Omega - Chapter 73
Lin Xinyi’s influence was still strong. The circulating photos clearly showed her talking and laughing with Xu Manyue. She had chosen not to hide her return. Instead, she made it public and direct. She did not even wear a mask, and openly let Xu Manyue come pick her up.
Xu Shijiu truly could not understand what Lin Xinyi was trying to do or why she chose to return in such a high-profile way. Normally, one would expect her to wear sunglasses and a mask, covering herself completely.
But Lin Xinyi was not someone you could define using ordinary logic. Other artists in the company, even those with only moderate fame, would bundle themselves up when traveling abroad or at the airport, terrified of being recognized. Lin Xinyi, on the other hand, did the opposite. She made no attempt to hide. She walked straight into the spotlight.
Xu Shijiu immediately called the agent who had been managing Lin Xinyi overseas for the past few years. The response was simple. They had tried to stop her, but it was no use. The Omega refused to listen.
Xu Shijiu felt both helpless and strangely intrigued.
The Lin Xinyi she remembered had never been so stubborn. Yes, she had always been strong-willed and rarely changed her mind once she decided something. But she never did things that would trouble others. This time, though, she was acting very differently.
Although Xu Shijiu did not want to get involved, Lin Xinyi was still an artist under Xu Corporation. After discussing it with Xu Manyue, they decided to assign one of their top-tier managers to handle Lin Xinyi personally. Many in the company had doubted whether this kind of special treatment was worth it, until Lin Xinyi’s name exploded in popularity.
When Xu Manyue made the call to Xu Shijiu, she did it openly in front of Lin Xinyi and Ling Mian. So both of them knew exactly what was happening.
“I don’t think Xu Shijiu will come back,” Ling Mian said, sipping wine and swirling the glass. “If she really intended to see Lin Xinyi, she would not have avoided every bit of news about her for the past three years.”
Lin Xinyi lowered her head and said nothing.
Xu Manyue looked at her phone, then looked at Lin Xinyi. In the end, she sighed and decided not to send the message. If Xu Shijiu wanted to see Lin Xinyi, she would come back. If she did not want to, then nothing would change that.
“Check the trending searches. News of Lin Xinyi’s return is everywhere now. Even Xu Manyue’s appearance is making headlines. Xu Shijiu will definitely see it,” Ling Mian said, opening her phone and showing them the top trending topic. “She’ll see it for sure. But come back? I don’t think so.”
“Sister, I’m full. I think I’ll leave now,” Lin Xinyi said suddenly. She got up and left quickly after saying goodbye to Xu Manyue.
Ling Mian was a little surprised. She thought maybe her comment had upset the Omega.
“What just happened?” she asked.
Xu Manyue smiled, but there was a teasing look in her eyes as she turned to Ling Mian.
“Why don’t you guess? You usually figure things out so easily. Guess what Lin Xinyi is up to now.”
Ling Mian laughed awkwardly. She could tell Xu Manyue was teasing her, taking the chance to get back at her for past remarks.
“I’m not guessing.”
Xu Manyue didn’t give an answer either. She simply looked toward the door. She knew exactly what Lin Xinyi was going to do. Lin Xinyi had returned for a very clear reason. Since Xu Shijiu would not come back, then Lin Xinyi would go to her instead.
The bond between them that had stretched over three years had never truly broken. Now it was slowly winding them back together.
Xu Shijiu had never forgotten Lin Xinyi. And from the look of it, Lin Xinyi had changed. But whether those changes were real or not, only Lin Xinyi could prove it to Xu Shijiu directly. As much as Xu Manyue wanted to help, she knew she could not interfere too much. All she could do was offer an opportunity.
What happens next depended entirely on Lin Xinyi.
Hopefully, she had truly changed.
Hopefully, she had not come back just to hurt Xu Shijiu all over again.
If in the end, Xu Shijiu was hurt once more…
A cold glint passed through Xu Manyue’s eyes. If that happened, she would never again let Lin Xinyi get close to her sister.
“You keep changing expressions. It’s kind of scary,” Ling Mian muttered, clearly unsettled by Xu Manyue’s shifting mood.
“What did you say?” Xu Manyue asked with a friendly smile.
“Nothing,” Ling Mian said quickly, shaking her head.
Lin Xinyi couldn’t tell whether she was being impulsive or just desperate to see Xu Shijiu. By the time the Xu family’s driver dropped her off in the underground parking garage of Xu Corporation, it was too late to turn back. Even if she wanted to change her mind, the car had already driven off. The driver wasn’t the same one as before, and she didn’t have his number.
Her only option was to find Xu Shijiu.
Well, there was another option. She could try to walk all the way back to her hotel.
No, that wouldn’t work.
She suddenly realized she had left Xu’s house empty-handed and hadn’t even taken her suitcase with her.
Clutching her forehead in frustration, Lin Xinyi regretted acting so rashly. What if Xu Shijiu didn’t even want to see her?
Still, it was too late to hesitate.
Lin Xinyi gave herself a quiet pep talk, hesitated for a long moment, then walked to the elevator. She entered the code that would take her directly to the top floor. The doors opened quickly, and she stepped inside, heart pounding.
She didn’t even know whether to be relieved that Xu Shijiu had never changed the access code her sister had set years ago. If she had, there was no way Lin Xinyi would have gotten up so easily.
This was the CEO’s private elevator. It moved far faster than the regular ones. Lin Xinyi had ridden both in the past and had once admired how efficient the private one was. Now, as she watched the numbers climb, she pressed her hand to her chest, trying to calm her racing heart.
If only it could go slower. She wasn’t ready yet.
Yi Lu, whenever she wasn’t busy with work, often came to see Xu Shijiu in the evenings. Although the secretary always blocked her firmly, the former boss had instructed them to allow more emotional contact for Xu Shijiu when it was appropriate.
So the secretary found an excuse to leave her desk for a bit. With that, the top floor was left with only two people. One Omega and one Alpha. If you ignored the walls and doors between them, it was almost like being alone together.
But Yi Lu didn’t rush in after the secretary left. She knocked first, and only after receiving a response did she step inside.
As soon as Xu Shijiu caught the faint scent of an Omega’s pheromones, something like a soft floral fragrance, she knew it was Yi Lu.
Her brows furrowed. She quickly closed the news tab on her computer and looked calmly at Yi Lu, who stood a few steps away from her desk.
Her voice was cold.
“Why are you here again? If you have something to say, talk to the secretary. I’m busy.”
Yi Lu gently twirled the ends of her long, wavy hair around her fingers. She was careful to keep a proper distance, making sure not to glance at any company documents. Her eyes remained fixed on Xu Shijiu.
“President Xu, I came to invite you to dinner.”
Xu Shijiu rubbed her temples, already feeling a headache coming on. She had lost count of how many times Yi Lu had said the same thing to her. They had repeated this conversation so many times. Yet Yi Lu never seemed to learn. No matter how clearly she rejected her, Yi Lu always came back and repeated the same pattern.
But Yi Lu did not seem to mind the rejection. She had grown used to it. In fact, at this point, if Xu Shijiu suddenly agreed to go with her, she would probably be the one who felt completely thrown off.
“I don’t want to have any connection with you,” Xu Shijiu said firmly.
Yi Lu nodded, looking straight into her eyes. “I know.”
Xu Shijiu let out a cold laugh. “Then why are you still trying to get close to me?”
Yi Lu seemed to recall something. A soft look of nostalgia appeared in her eyes.
“I just wanted to talk. To catch up with you.”
“Catch up?” The smile on Xu Shijiu’s face instantly froze into something colder. She put down her pen. “There’s nothing between us worth revisiting.”
There is something.
Yi Lu wanted to say it, but she didn’t. If she did, Xu Shijiu would only throw her out even faster.
“I came to thank you,” Yi Lu said instead, shifting the topic. She looked at Xu Shijiu seriously. “Thank you for signing me when I was at my lowest. Thank you for giving me a chance at Xu Entertainment. Without that, I wouldn’t have the success I have today.”
If not for Xu Shijiu, her family might still be drowning in debt. They might not have been able to recover at all.
“I only did it because your father asked me to,” Xu Shijiu replied bluntly. “If it hadn’t been for him, I wouldn’t have done it.”
Back then, Yi Lu’s father had offered to help when Xu Manyue’s company was facing financial difficulties. In the end, Xu Manyue overcame the crisis through her own ability, but the Xu family still owed the Yi family a favor. So when Yi Lu’s father called and asked if she could be signed under Xu Entertainment, both Xu Manyue and Xu Shijiu agreed without much hesitation.
Xu Shijiu had always rejected Yi Lu directly, but she had never mentioned her father before. So hearing it now took Yi Lu by surprise.
“If there’s nothing else, please leave,” Xu Shijiu said. She was one step away from physically showing the Omega out of the office.
“Alright then, since you said so,” Yi Lu sighed and shrugged helplessly. She turned to leave.
“Wait.”
Xu Shijiu’s voice stopped her mid-step. Yi Lu’s eyes lit up instantly. She turned back with a spark of hope in her expression and looked at Xu Shijiu, full of expectation.
“Put on a pheromone blocker patch next time. I don’t want you coming into my office again without one.”
Xu Shijiu’s voice was cold and sharp. She didn’t care about the hurt in Yi Lu’s eyes.
“If it happens again, I’ll take action.”
It was a clear threat. But Yi Lu had no way to fight back.
