You Are My Omega - Chapter 69
When Xu Manyue arrived at the villa, Xiaojiu had already returned before her.
That in itself did not surprise her. What truly caught her off guard was seeing Xiaojiu standing. She was standing firmly, completely upright, right in front of her.
The doctors had not been able to stop Xu Manyue from being discharged, but they had insisted she use a wheelchair. So there she was, dressed in a patient gown, pale and seated in a wheelchair. Meanwhile, Xiaojiu was standing on her own, unaided. She could not run yet, but the fact that she could walk on her own was already a remarkable improvement. Xiaojiu was satisfied with her progress.
Not long ago, it was Xiaojiu who sat in the wheelchair. Now it was Xu Manyue.
The roles between the two sisters had completely reversed.
Joy surged in Xu Manyue’s chest, pushing aside her worries and doubts. She moved her wheelchair forward and looked at her sister with shining eyes.
“Xiaojiu, you are standing. When did this happen? How long have you been able to walk? Does it hurt? Do you still need a crutch?”
“I am doing well,” Xiaojiu replied softly, shaking her head. But when she saw how thin her sister looked, how pale her face had become, her heart felt like it was being crushed.
“Why didn’t you let me come to the hospital and take care of you? My legs are fine now. Can you stop forbidding me from visiting you in the future?” Xiaojiu lowered herself to her sister’s level, kneeling beside the wheelchair. Her voice was quiet but filled with emotion. “I wanted to see you so many times, but you always had the bodyguards stop me.”
Xu Manyue understood. The complaint was genuine. So was the worry and frustration. But she also knew that Xiaojiu was trying to distract her attention. She was shifting the focus, trying to buy herself some time.
Still, the current situation between Xiaojiu and Lin Xinyi could not continue. It was not good for either of them. Someone had to end it, and if no one else would, she would.
“I only kept you away because I was worried about your condition. I didn’t know your legs had healed already. If you want to visit me from now on, I promise I won’t stop you again.” Xu Manyue smiled and gently stroked her sister’s face.
Xiaojiu had grown up. She had changed a lot. But that was only natural. They had not seen each other for a long time.
“How is your wound? Does it still hurt? Every time I called, the caregiver answered. She always said you were asleep,” Xiaojiu asked, clearly concerned. She had called many times and never once reached her sister directly. Sometimes she feared something might have happened. Only the occasional photo or video reassured her.
“I’m alright. The wound is healing.” Xu Manyue nodded, her smile bright and warm. It gave the impression that nothing had changed, that everything was just as it used to be.
But that was only an illusion. Her smile was familiar, but her eyes were empty. Even seeing her sister again brought only a faint light into them.
The person she loved had left. That departure had nearly cost her life and had taken all the warmth from her heart.
“Even if you try to distract me, I’m still going to see Xiaoyi today.” Xu Manyue’s voice was steady. On this matter, she would not compromise.
If she remembered correctly, Xiaojiu’s susceptibility period was approaching. If something happened between her and an Omega during that time, even if Lin Xinyi didn’t report her for it, there would be a permanent rift between them.
Both Xiaojiu and Lin Xinyi were nearly adults. Time had passed so quickly. Xu Manyue could not help but feel emotional. The little girl who used to follow her around had quietly grown up and was now running Xu Entertainment on her own.
Xiaojiu’s smile stiffened. If it had been anyone else standing there, she would have refused without hesitation. But this was her sister.
The sister who had raised her with such care and devotion. No matter how stubborn Xiaojiu was, she could not bring herself to send her sister away. She could not bear to see disappointment in her eyes.
“Xiaojiu, I promise I only want to help you both understand each other. I won’t force Xiaoyi to leave with me, alright?” Xu Manyue said gently, trying to calm her. She had clearly seen the fear and hesitation in Xiaojiu’s expression. “You’re not happy like this either, are you? Xiaoyi probably doesn’t treat you the same way she used to. Doesn’t that hurt?”
Keeping Lin Xinyi locked in a room was already bad enough. Using a specially designed rope to restrict her movements made things even worse. That girl was probably terrified.
Was Xiaojiu hurting? Of course she was.
She would never forget what happened the last time she entered that room. The fear in Lin Xinyi’s eyes. The way she trembled uncontrollably. How she flinched from her touch. How she pulled away, afraid. She was terrified of her.
Her light had become afraid of her. And if the light feared her, it would never shine on her again.
How could that not hurt?
She was so afraid of seeing that look again that she had not gone back into the room. She only watched Lin Xinyi through the surveillance cameras, seeing how she spent her time each day.
If her sister’s arrival could truly change something…
“I promise I won’t take Lin Xinyi away without your permission. Is that alright?” Xu Manyue could see that Xiaojiu was beginning to soften.
And in the end, Xiaojiu gave in.
The door creaked open.
Lin Xinyi snapped out of her daze. It was not time for her meal, and it clearly was not the housekeeper. Her body tensed with alertness. She sat up quickly, the long rope shifting with her movement, and looked toward the door.
When she saw Xu Manyue, she could not react right away.
Xu Manyue let out a deep sigh when she saw Lin Xinyi.
The rope was long enough to allow her to move between the bed and the bathroom. Lin Xinyi was still clean and neat, just like she had always remembered. But she had grown thin. Her lips, once soft and pink, were now pale and colorless. Her hair had grown to her waist, making her look even more fragile and sickly.
“Sister…” Lin Xinyi’s voice was weak. There was no calendar, no phone, nothing in the room to tell her how much time had passed. She did not know how long she had been locked away. She had no idea how long it had been since she last spoke to anyone. Even speaking now, she felt uncertain if she was using the right words.
“Yes, it’s me.” Xu Manyue moved her wheelchair closer to the bed and took Lin Xinyi’s cold hand in hers, eyes full of pain and affection. “It has been a long time, Xiaoyi.”
Lin Xinyi blinked hard, still unsure if this was a dream. Only the warmth in her sister’s hand convinced her that this was real. She was not imagining it. Her sister was truly here.
“Why are you in a wheelchair? Is your wound not healed yet?” Lin Xinyi spoke slowly, unsure if it was because she had not spoken in so long or because she was trying to keep herself from crying.
“I’m alright. The wound is healing. But you’ve lost so much weight. Your face is so pale. You haven’t been resting properly, have you? Or eating well either.” Xu Manyue looked at Lin Xinyi as if she were her own little sister. She had never expected things between Xiaoyi and Xiaojiu to become so difficult while she had been unconscious.
If she had known, she would have never allowed herself to rest.
“She let you in?” Lin Xinyi’s voice was filled with disbelief. As soon as she thought of Xu Shijiu, the image of her cold, predatory gaze from that day returned vividly in her mind. Her body trembled before she even realized it.
“Xiaoyi,” Xu Manyue called her name gently. She had clearly felt Lin Xinyi’s resistance. The moment Xu Shijiu was mentioned, Lin Xinyi’s emotional state became unstable. Xu Manyue sighed silently, unsure of how to explain everything.
“I am sorry, Xiaoyi. I should have stopped Xiaojiu earlier. I should have come to you sooner.” She held Lin Xinyi’s hand softly and avoided any sudden movements. The Omega in front of her was tense and clearly on guard. If she acted too quickly, it might only cause more fear.
“Sister, this isn’t your fault,” Lin Xinyi said. She slowly regained her composure and tried to relax. She even forced a small smile.
“I know this is my fault. I was wrong. If I had not hidden things from her at the beginning, things would not have turned out like this.” Lin Xinyi understood that everything happening now was the result of her own choices. She had triggered Xu Shijiu repeatedly, which had led her to such an extreme response.
“Xiaoyi,” Xu Manyue said softly. She had expected Lin Xinyi to blame Xiaojiu. She never imagined Lin Xinyi would take all the blame upon herself.
“Sister, she will not listen to anything I say. I have tried to explain so many times. There is nothing between me and Ling Mian. We were only filming a kissing scene in the lounge. The camera angle made it look real, but we never even got close. And the trip abroad was also just a coincidence.” Lin Xinyi was afraid her sister might doubt her too, so she tried her best to explain everything clearly.
Xu Manyue believed every word. She was the only one who knew that Ling Mian was Xiaojiu’s biological sister. There was no reason to doubt Lin Xinyi’s explanation. She knew that Ling Mian would never hurt her own sister, and she also trusted that Lin Xinyi would never betray Xiaojiu.
Everything had simply been a series of unfortunate coincidences.
“I understand, Xiaoyi. Please don’t be so upset,” Xu Manyue comforted her in a gentle tone.
When Lin Xinyi saw that her sister believed her, her eyes filled with emotion. Her voice shook as she asked, “Then why doesn’t she believe me?”
“Xiaoyi, Xiaojiu has always been someone who lacks a sense of security. The thing she fears most is being lied to. When she gave her heart to you, but you still chose to keep things from her, it made her feel that she could not trust you.”
When she lost that sense of safety, she became afraid that one day you might leave her. That fear made her choose this extreme way of holding on to you.
