You Are My Omega - Chapter 68
Lin Xinyi could not believe that Xu Shijiu would actually treat her like this. She stared at the restraints on her wrists and the rope tied tightly to the headboard, looped with multiple knots and secured with a lock. She could still feel her body trembling from fear. It took her a long time to fully accept that this entire situation was created by Xu Shijiu.
The only thing she felt slightly relieved about was that when Xu Shijiu tried to tear off the pheromone-blocking patch from her gland, she eventually stopped after Lin Xinyi pleaded with her.
But what about next time?
Xu Shijiu had said she would keep her locked up for the rest of her life.
Lin Xinyi was turning eighteen next month. Xu Shijiu’s birthday was about a week later. Once they were both legal adults, even if something happened between them, it would no longer be considered illegal. The law clearly stated that it was a crime for an Alpha to forcefully mark an Omega, but how could Lin Xinyi ever bring herself to report Xu Shijiu?
If Xu Shijiu really did something like that to her… then what would she do?
She did not know what to do anymore, but she was sure that things could not go on like this forever.
One day, when Xu Shijiu went out, Lin Xinyi took the opportunity to speak with the housekeeper who came to deliver her meal.
“Auntie, can you do me a favor?”
“I cannot help you, Miss Lin. I am just a servant. I am not in a position to help with things like that.” The housekeeper was clearly frightened. Xu Shijiu paid close attention to everything Lin Xinyi did. She made the housekeeper report every detail every night. It was easy to imagine how seriously she would take any issue related to Lin Xinyi.
“I just want to borrow a phone. I want to call the head of the Xu family, Xu Manyue.” Lin Xinyi spoke quickly before the housekeeper could walk away in a panic.
“Why do you want to call the head of the family?” The housekeeper paused.
“I need her advice on something,” Lin Xinyi replied sincerely. But she noticed a flicker of something strange on the housekeeper’s face. Was it possible that her sister already knew about this? Was the housekeeper sent by her? Or worse, was her sister supporting what Xu Shijiu was doing?
Lin Xinyi felt completely lost in confusion.
“If there is anything important, I will pass on the message to the second young lady when she returns,” the housekeeper replied firmly. From the very beginning, she had never been in a position to help.
“Then don’t bother,” Lin Xinyi said softly. Even though she had expected the rejection, it still hurt.
She felt helpless and full of regret. She was trapped in this place, and no matter what she said, Xu Shijiu refused to listen. They had not seen each other for days now. Lin Xinyi had no idea how to break this deadlock or how to bring Xu Shijiu back to her senses.
After leaving the room, the housekeeper once again saw the second young lady leaning against the wall by the door. Although she had not done anything, the look in her eyes was so cold that it sent a shiver down the housekeeper’s spine.
In a low voice, she said, “Second young lady, Miss Lin asked to borrow my phone to call the head of the family. I refused.”
If she had agreed, she would not have lived to see another day.
Miss Lin had assumed that the sound of the front door meant Xu Shijiu had left. When the housekeeper told her she was out, she believed it. But in truth, Xu Shijiu often said she was going out only to stay near the room, listening carefully to what was happening inside.
“You did very well,” Xu Shijiu said with a smile.
“I’ll take my leave now,” the housekeeper replied quickly, unable to stay any longer. The second young lady’s smile was far too disturbing.
Xu Shijiu took out her phone and opened the surveillance feed from the room. She watched as the Omega quietly ate her meal. She listened closely to the sound of chewing coming from the audio equipment. Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
Lin Xinyi would never escape her grasp.
No matter who tried to intervene, no one could take her Omega away.
Lin Xinyi belonged to her and only her. Since Lin Xinyi refused to behave and was so close with another Alpha, then she would just have to stay here and be a well-behaved Omega. Xu Shijiu would protect her.
Meanwhile, Xu Manyue’s wounds had reopened several times, eventually becoming infected. Since she believed she had already made all the necessary arrangements, she had stopped forcing herself to stay awake. During those feverish days, she was barely conscious and rarely awake.
When her strength finally returned and she could get out of bed, the captain of her security team came to her with a confidential report. That was when Xu Manyue learned that something serious had happened at home while she had been sick.
Pushing herself upright, she immediately made a phone call to Xu Shijiu.
Even though the nurses and caregivers were all worried about her wound reopening, none of them dared to stop her after seeing the look on her face.
Xu Manyue had initially been recovering well, but her own stubbornness had taken a toll on her body. On top of that, the physical effects of having her Alpha mark removed had weakened her further. Her injuries still had not healed, and her ability to recover had clearly declined.
The call went through quickly. In a weak voice, she asked, “Shijiu, did you lock up Xiaoyi?”
Xu Manyue could hardly believe her younger sister would do something so extreme. She had never acted like this before.
Then she suddenly remembered. Back when Xu Shijiu lost the ability to walk, there had been a young Omega she was close to. When that Omega broke their promise and left her, Xu Shijiu had reacted very badly. That same coldness and cruelty she had shown back then, if that lively Omega had stayed, perhaps she would be in the same situation Lin Xinyi was in now.
“Have you recovered?” Xu Shijiu asked, avoiding the question.
“Stop changing the subject. Answer me. Did you lock her up?” Xu Manyue repeated, her voice more serious this time.
Xu Shijiu fell silent. She set down her pen and stared at the contract in front of her, her eyes unfocused.
“Yes.”
She finally gave an answer just as Xu Manyue was about to lose her patience.
“Why? Did something happen between you and Xiaoyi?” Xu Manyue still found it hard to believe. Deep down, she even hoped her sister would say it was all a joke. But she did not.
“She has been getting too close to another Alpha.”
Xu Shijiu could clearly hear the frustration in her sister’s voice. She could also tell that Xu Manyue had not fully recovered. She weighed her choices. She could either explain the situation now or let her sister investigate it herself later.
In the end, she chose to be honest.
Xu Shijiu believed her sister would understand her. After the car accident, Xu Manyue had shown her nothing but love and indulgence. Surely, she would support her decision.
Xu Manyue heard every word that Xu Shijiu said, and it cut straight to her heart. She understood every sentence so clearly that she felt completely overwhelmed. Her eyes stung, but no tears came. She felt like crying, yet there was no way to let it out.
Ling Mian was Xu Shijiu’s biological sister. When she came to visit and allowed Xu Manyue to investigate freely without any hesitation, Xu Manyue became certain that Ling Mian would never do anything to hurt her own sister. If the kiss really happened during filming, then it was most likely a staged scene. It must have been part of the job. The trip to Country F had to be a coincidence.
“Xiao Jiu, what really upset you was that Lin Xinyi kept things from you, wasn’t it?” Xu Manyue let out a quiet sigh. That child, Xiaoyi, had always been like that. Whenever something happened, her first instinct was to hide it. Xu Shijiu had mentioned this before and expressed how much it bothered her. Xiaoyi had even promised to change, but who would have thought it would still lead to this outcome?
Maybe this was what people meant when they said that habits are hard to change, no matter how much time passes.
Xu Shijiu stayed silent. She already knew in her heart that her sister was about to try and persuade her. She would ask her to forgive Lin Xinyi and to stop keeping her locked away.
“Sister, I have a client waiting. I need to talk to her about an order.” Xu Shijiu said in a calm but cold voice.
Hearing her tone shift so suddenly, Xu Manyue was left speechless.
In that moment, Xu Manyue felt like Xu Shijiu had become a stranger.
The phone call ended shortly after. Xu Shijiu was the one who hung up.
Xu Manyue stared at the phone in her hand, listening to the dull beeping sound that followed. All these years, Xu Shijiu had always waited for her to hang up first. But now, things had changed.
Was this what growing up looked like, or had she simply gotten lost in her own thoughts?
“Prepare the car. Take me to the villa that belongs to Xu Shijiu,” Xu Manyue said firmly. Since talking to her sister did not help, it was time to try a different approach.
She was genuinely worried about Lin Xinyi’s condition. Even though she knew that Xu Shijiu would never truly harm her, someone in Lin Xinyi’s situation could not possibly be eating well or resting properly. With her mental state so low, even if she was eating, she probably was not absorbing much nutrition. She was already a physically fragile Omega. Xu Manyue could not imagine what kind of shape she was in now.
To be fair, Xu Manyue thought Lin Xinyi had brought some of this on herself. If she had just been honest from the start, if she had not chosen to keep secrets, none of this would have happened.
“But Madam, your body has only just started to recover. If you push yourself too hard again, your wound might reopen…” The caregiver looked at her with concern. She had been working in this position for a while now, and although the pay was excellent, she had formed a real emotional bond with her patient. Watching her continue to reopen the same injury again and again made her feel helpless.
Come to think of it, every time her wound reopened, someone unfamiliar always seemed to appear near the VIP ward. It was strange, because that area was not open to the public. Someone was always lurking nearby, acting suspiciously, but they always disappeared before anyone could confront them.
“My health does not matter anymore,” Xu Manyue said softly.
The person she had once hoped to spend her life with was gone. Living a long and healthy life had lost its meaning.
