You Are My Omega - Chapter 67
Lin Xinyi could not understand why Xu Shijiu suddenly had such an emotional outburst. Xu Shijiu was not someone who acted irrationally. She would never get upset for no reason. Something must have happened that Lin Xinyi was unaware of.
What could it be? Was it something related to work? Or something about Ling Mian?
Ling Mian.
Lin Xinyi’s head snapped up as the thought struck her. She suddenly remembered that when Xu Shijiu visited the film set, she had said she could not find Xinyi’s dressing room and left. But what if she actually had found it?
Could she have seen her and Ling Mian filming a kissing scene? Even though she and Ling Mian both knew there had never been any real intimacy between them, and everything was carefully staged using camera angles, it could still have looked very real from the doorway. From that angle, everything might have appeared too close, too personal.
Lin Xinyi frowned deeply. Once this possibility came to mind, all her confusion started to make sense. Xu Shijiu coming home so late that night was probably not because of work, but because she did not want to see her.
If only she had realized it sooner. If only she had explained things to Xu Shijiu right away, none of this would have happened. Today would not have turned out like this.
Even though nothing had happened between her and Ling Mian, and they had both worn pheromone-blocking patches that prevented any Alpha or Omega pheromones from being released, that might not have been the most important thing to Xu Shijiu.
What Xu Shijiu probably cared about the most was not the physical closeness, but the fact that Lin Xinyi had kept it from her.
Even if she regretted everything now, it was already too late. From the very beginning, when she chose to keep things from Xu Shijiu under the excuse of protecting her, she had already made a mistake.
It had been days since she last saw Xu Shijiu.
Carrying guilt and fully aware of her mistakes, Lin Xinyi did not resist at all when Xu Shijiu locked her in the room. Every day, she could hear the phone Xu Shijiu had deliberately left outside ringing constantly. Lin Xinyi had a vague idea of who the calls were from.
They were probably from the university in Country F, from Lin Zhiling, the director, her agent, or maybe classmates trying to reach her for various reasons.
Lin Xinyi was certain that Xu Shijiu wanted her to hear those rings on purpose, and it worked. She felt disturbed and anxious, but it did not matter. No matter how much it affected her, she had no choice but to stay here.
She had already made Xu Shijiu feel hurt. If she tried to resist now, it would only push Xu Shijiu even further away.
What Lin Xinyi hoped for now was that Xu Shijiu had not completely closed her heart.
“Auntie said you wanted to see me.” Xu Shijiu walked in using a crutch. Her expression was not exactly cold, but it was far from warm.
At first, Lin Xinyi was still a little dazed. When she finally came to her senses, she quickly sat up from the bed, clearly emotional.
“Xu Shijiu!” she called out. She had not expected her to appear so suddenly.
“Weren’t you the one who wanted to see me?” Xu Shijiu avoided her eyes. Lin Xinyi’s gaze was too sincere, as if nothing had happened between them, as if everything was just like before. That only made her heart feel even more unsettled.
“Xu Shijiu, can you walk steadily now with the crutch? Does it hurt if you walk too much? Do you feel tired? What did the doctor say?” Lin Xinyi’s first concern was about Xu Shijiu’s condition.
Xu Shijiu remained silent. She had expected Lin Xinyi’s first words to be either a demand to know why she was locked up or a plea to be let out. She did not expect her first question to be about her health.
No. This had to be an attempt to manipulate her.
Xu Shijiu felt a warning go off in her mind. She forced herself to stay alert. Her softening heart immediately hardened again. She could not let herself be swayed. She could not give in.
“My condition is none of your concern,” she said, trying to sound cold and distant.
But Lin Xinyi did not stop. She reached out instinctively, trying to steady her. Her voice was full of worry.
“Be careful, Xu Shijiu!”
She had no idea how bad Xu Shijiu’s injury still was, so she could not feel reassured at all.
Just as Lin Xinyi’s hand was about to touch her, Xu Shijiu suddenly stepped back, putting distance between them. Lin Xinyi froze in place. She had not expected Xu Shijiu to resist her touch so strongly.
But that was only natural.
Lin Xinyi blamed herself silently. She was the one who had pushed Xu Shijiu to become like this. It was entirely her fault.
“What did you want to talk about?” Xu Shijiu asked. Her voice was cold and distant.
Lin Xinyi quietly pulled her hand back and looked directly into Xu Shijiu’s eyes.
“I was just worried about you. I wanted to see with my own eyes that you’re alright.”
Xu Shijiu’s eyes flickered, and for a moment, her expression grew complicated.
“Does it really matter how I’m doing?”
“Of course it matters.”
Lin Xinyi’s response came immediately.
Xu Shijiu could only feel bitter amusement. She used to believe that she mattered too. She thought she held an important place in Lin Xinyi’s heart. She believed that Lin Xinyi cared for her the way she cared for Xinyi. But the truth had proved otherwise. It had all been her wishful thinking.
“If you’re hoping I’ll let you go, then give up. I’m not letting you leave,” Xu Shijiu said, lowering her gaze.
“What about Hei Tuan and Bai Tuan? I haven’t heard them in a while,” Lin Xinyi asked, trying to change the subject. She wanted Xu Shijiu to calm down so they could talk properly. If things stayed this tense, there would be no way to explain anything. Xu Shijiu would just think she was making things up.
Xu Shijiu paused for a long moment before replying.
“They’re sick. They’re at the animal hospital.”
It was clear that her tone had softened a little. But the reason behind it was not something Lin Xinyi wanted to hear.
“They’re sick? How?” Lin Xinyi became anxious. The last time she saw them, they had seemed perfectly healthy.
“The vet said they might have caught some kind of virus,” Xu Shijiu said. Her voice now carried a hint of worry as well. Seeing how concerned Lin Xinyi looked made her feel conflicted. “They’re being taken care of by professionals. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“A virus…” Lin Xinyi repeated softly. She could not figure out where such an infection could have come from.
“Can I…”
“No.”
Lin Xinyi had not even finished her question when Xu Shijiu cut her off.
That moment of gentleness disappeared completely. All that was left was the same cold distance from before.
“Xu Shijiu, there really is nothing between me and Ling Mian. That day, we were filming a kissing scene. It was a camera trick. There was distance between us. What you saw…”
“Enough.”
Xu Shijiu’s voice was sharp and final.
Xu Shijiu’s sudden outburst silenced Lin Xinyi completely. She stared at Xu Shijiu, whose eyes were filled with anger. For the first time, Lin Xinyi felt a real and deep fear rising in her chest, gripping her nerves and refusing to let go.
“I am telling you, Lin Xinyi, I will never let you leave again.” Xu Shijiu glared at her while wearing a bright smile. The sharp contrast between her expression and her words made Lin Xinyi feel a chill in her heart. What frightened her even more was the leash that Xu Shijiu suddenly pulled out from somewhere.
Xu Shijiu held the leash in her hand and slowly walked toward Lin Xinyi. Instinctively, Lin Xinyi backed away step by step, her eyes filled with fear.
“Xu Shijiu, what are you trying to do?” Her voice shook as she asked.
“What am I trying to do?” Xu Shijiu let out a short, cold laugh. She dropped the crutch from her hand and took a steady step forward. Her movement was firm, without any shaking or hesitation. Lin Xinyi’s eyes widened in surprise and relief, but before she could react further, Xu Shijiu’s chilling smile made her step back again.
Xu Shijiu kept approaching. Lin Xinyi, now backed into a corner with nowhere left to go, felt completely trapped.
“You already know what I’m going to do, Lin Xinyi.”
Of course Lin Xinyi knew. She was not foolish. As a smart Omega, she could easily guess what Xu Shijiu had in mind.
The leash.
Its purpose was obvious.
Xu Shijiu’s legs had recovered quickly. This was thanks to a new rehabilitation method developed at the recovery center. Combined with her ability to endure pain and her intense training schedule, her healing had progressed much faster than usual. Normally, this kind of injury would take a long time to heal. But after their argument, Xu Shijiu’s recovery had improved unexpectedly.
She did not know why.
All she knew was that on the day she was finally able to walk again without her crutch, the happiness she had expected never came. Instead, all she felt was a heavy sense of sadness and emptiness.
The leash Xu Shijiu had prepared was made from a special material. It was soft enough not to injure an Omega’s delicate skin, but strong enough that no Omega could break free from it. She had even asked her strongest bodyguards to test it, just to be sure.
“Miss Xu, is this really necessary?” The housekeeper stepped out again, holding the tray of spilled food. She looked at the young lady leaning against the doorway and let out a heavy sigh.
Miss Lin had never once tried to escape the room. There were guards stationed both inside and outside. She was just an Omega. Even if she tried to run, where could she possibly go? And now her hands were tied, and her movements restricted with a long leash. Was this really needed?
“Auntie, there are some things you should not ask about.” Xu Shijiu spoke in a cold voice, giving a clear warning.
The housekeeper was not surprised by Xu Shijiu’s attitude. She had helped raise her after all. She once believed that the second young miss was still the same person she remembered. Now she realized she had been holding on to the past.
Xu Shijiu leaned against the cold wall, slowly sliding down until she sat on the floor. She hugged her knees tightly. Lin Xinyi’s voice echoed in her mind, and her expression turned darker.
Lin Xinyi had said they were just acting. But if it had only been a scene, why was no one else there? Not even an assistant. There were no witnesses at all. Were they not afraid of being misunderstood?
Lin Xinyi had said there was nothing between them. Then why were they seen together at the airport? Why were they going to the same place?
Why were there so many coincidences?
Were they really just coincidences?
