You Are My Omega - Chapter 66
If Xu Shijiu were not her younger sister, Ling Mian believed she could have faced this situation calmly. After all, it truly was just a coincidence that she and Lin Xinyi had ended up traveling together. But she could not remain unaffected. She could not stay calm. Seeing that familiar face, so perfectly overlapping with her memories, how could she possibly feel indifferent?
Ling Mian’s unusual expression only made Xu Shijiu more certain that something had happened between her and Lin Xinyi. There was no way it was just a coincidence they met at the airport.
Even though she had only received the news last minute and rushed to the airport, Xu Shijiu still remembered to stop and buy a strawberry cake on the way. The bright red strawberries on top now felt harsh to look at, just like the intimate moment she had witnessed between Ling Mian and Lin Xinyi. It was as jarring as the ruined cake that had fallen to the floor that day.
Xu Shijiu felt like a joke. All the promises about never leaving, about always being there for her. Lin Xinyi had said she would give up the academy invitation, but now she wondered if it had just been a lie to comfort her. That firm promise not to leave must have been a lie too.
Everything had been a lie. And the saddest part was that Xu Shijiu had believed every word of it.
Lin Xinyi saw the darkness clouding over Xu Shijiu’s eyes and panicked. She rushed forward.
“Xu Shijiu, I can explain. Please don’t misunderstand.”
“I just happened to run into Ling Mian at the airport. We started talking and found out we were heading to the same country. That’s why we decided to travel together. It wasn’t planned. I didn’t tell you because I had already planned to come home tonight. I wasn’t planning to stay overseas long.”
But Xu Shijiu said nothing.
Her head was lowered, making it hard for Lin Xinyi to read her expression. But just from the cold, tense atmosphere around her, it was clear that Xu Shijiu was far from happy.
Lin Xinyi never thought things would turn out this way. She never expected her manager to leak her schedule to Xu Shijiu, nor did she think Xu Shijiu would find time in her hectic schedule to track it.
“Let’s go home,” Xu Shijiu said in a flat tone.
The coldness in her voice made Lin Xinyi even more anxious. She quickly reached out and grabbed her hand.
“I was wrong, Xu Shijiu. I promise, everything I said is true. I didn’t lie to you. Please believe me.”
“Go home. Now,” Xu Shijiu said again, unmoved.
The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal, calling passengers for the flight to Country F.
“Xu Shijiu…” Lin Xinyi hesitated. The academy had made it clear that she had to complete the paperwork today, or they would not be able to hold her spot. It was an important deadline.
“You don’t have to blame your Omega for anything I did,” Ling Mian finally spoke. She had not planned to say anything, knowing it might make things worse. But staying silent now felt wrong.
“I have nothing to do with her. Please don’t take it out on her just because of me.”
“What does that have to do with you? Lin Xinyi is my Omega!” Xu Shijiu looked up, her eyes filled with anger, locking with Ling Mian’s calm and sincere gaze. The image of them standing so close together still burned in her mind, and it made her want to lash out.
But she knew she couldn’t win in a fight against Ling Mian. Even though her legs were slowly recovering, she was still no match for a healthy alpha.
Ling Mian recognized that look. She had seen it before, when they were younger. Whenever she took a lollipop from her little sister, Xu Shijiu would stare at her the same way. Her sister had always been mature, but when it came to things she cared about, she was possessive.
“I know. Miss Lin is your Omega,” Ling Mian said with a hint of helplessness. Just like when they were children, once someone was in Xu Shijiu’s world, her sense of ownership became intense and impossible to ignore.
“Don’t be like this. I’ll go back with you.” Lin Xinyi nodded apologetically at Ling Mian, then turned to face Xu Shijiu. Holding both of her hands tightly, she chose Xu Shijiu over her future, over her dream.
“I was wrong, alright? I shouldn’t have hidden anything from you. Let’s go home and talk. This has nothing to do with Miss Ling.”
She did not want Xu Shijiu to fall out with the powerful Ling family of Country F just because of her.
Xu Shijiu was still angry. In her mind, it felt like Lin Xinyi had only chosen to leave with her because she had gotten into a fight with Ling Mian. She believed Lin Xinyi was only trying to protect Ling Mian by calming her down. Still, even with all her doubts, she nodded.
“Let’s go home.”
But she did not take Lin Xinyi back to their usual home.
Instead, she had the driver take them to another property under her name.
“Aren’t we going home?” Lin Xinyi asked, confused. A sense of unease slowly replaced her disappointment. She had never been to the address Xu Shijiu just gave the driver.
“We are,” Xu Shijiu replied with a smile.
Her smile was bright, but it made Lin Xinyi feel nervous and uneasy.
“What about Blackie and Whitey if we go somewhere else?” Lin Xinyi asked carefully. She could not figure out what Xu Shijiu was thinking. That smile looked so pure, and her eyes were calm, but there was something behind them that Lin Xinyi could not understand. For the first time, she felt that Xu Shijiu was just as frightening as her older sister.
“They’re already there. I had the bodyguards take them over earlier. That place is very safe. Nothing will happen to them,” Xu Shijiu said. She seemed to notice Lin Xinyi’s anxiety. It hurt her, but there was also something deeper in her expression that could not be put into words.
Lin Xinyi had every reason to be nervous, because what happened next confirmed her fears.
“You moved that quickly? Is the house not safe anymore? Why are we suddenly staying somewhere else?” Lin Xinyi tried her best to shake off the growing fear in her chest.
Xu Shijiu would never do anything to harm her. She would never force her. Lin Xinyi knew that. So why did she still feel so uneasy?
She kept asking herself that question.
But no answer came. She could not even explain why her heart felt so heavy.
Then, everything became clear.
“That house isn’t safe,” Xu Shijiu said calmly. She waited until the car entered through a tall iron gate before finishing her sentence. “Because you could come and go as you pleased. It was too easy for you to leave.”
“Leave…”
Lin Xinyi’s eyes widened. She suddenly understood.
But it was already too late.
The car stopped. The door opened. Two housemaids gently took one of her arms each. Their grip was not harsh, but it was firm enough that she could not resist. Without a struggle, she was taken into a room and locked inside.
Xu Shijiu knew very well that her possessiveness could be frightening. She had always tried to restrain it, but Lin Xinyi kept pushing those boundaries again and again. After she ordered the two housemaids to lock Lin Xinyi in the room, she drank a glass of cold water. Only then did the burning fire in her heart begin to cool down.
The room was not soundproof, so she could hear Lin Xinyi calling her name clearly. In the silence of the house, her voice was even more distinct.
Lying on the couch, Xu Shijiu stared at the white ceiling, feeling a little dazed. But she did not regret her decision. In her eyes, she had done the right thing.
She had only one Omega, and that Omega was Lin Xinyi. Lin Xinyi belonged to her.
Her Omega did not need to work. She did not need to try so hard. She only needed to stay by her side. As long as she kept the promise she once made—never to leave—that was enough. Xu Shijiu did not care about repayment or gratitude. None of that mattered.
She only wanted Lin Xinyi. She only wished Lin Xinyi would stay.
If she kept Lin Xinyi here like this, then she would never be able to leave. Wouldn’t that be perfect?
Yes, it had to be. She had done nothing wrong.
Lin Xinyi eventually stopped calling for her. After realizing there was no answer, her cries faded, and silence returned to the room. The Omega had not yet recovered from the shock. She never imagined that Xu Shijiu would do something like this. Right now, she still had not realized how deeply she had provoked Xu Shijiu emotionally.
She instinctively touched the pocket watch at her chest and looked out the window, trying to calm herself down. The first thing she needed was to clear her mind. Then she would think of how to talk to Xu Shijiu.
“Quiet is good. Second Miss told us to take good care of you. Miss Lin, it’s time to eat.”
A maid entered the room, pushing a small food cart. Only then did Lin Xinyi look away from the window. She glanced around and finally noticed that this room was arranged exactly the same as her bedroom at home.
“Where is Xu Shijiu?” she asked in a low voice.
“Second Miss said that she will eat only after you’ve finished your meal,” the maid replied without answering the question directly, simply passing on Xu Shijiu’s message.
This maid had always been in charge of maintaining this villa. Aside from when the former Madam occasionally brought Second Miss here for a few short stays, no one else had ever lived in it. So when Second Miss brought this Omega here and even ordered her to be locked up, the maid was very curious. But at the same time, she knew this was something she could not afford to be curious about.
Clearly, she had been deeply influenced by what she had seen. Even though Xu Shijiu was not Xu Manyue’s biological sister, when it came to methods like these, she had inherited them all too well.
Just one sentence was enough to silence all of Lin Xinyi’s resistance. All her little calculations stopped. She did not try to think of any other way to get out. Instead, she obediently picked up the bowl and chopsticks and began to eat.
Xu Shijiu meant what she said. If Lin Xinyi did not eat soon, she would keep waiting and go hungry herself. How could Lin Xinyi bear to let that happen?
