You Are My Omega - Chapter 63
Lin Xinyi received an invitation letter from a prestigious acting academy overseas, inviting her to study and pursue her undergraduate education there. This was something she had once asked Liu Lingyan to help arrange, hoping to study abroad. But now, with Liu Lingyan no longer by her side and all contact lost, the opportunity had unexpectedly come to her directly.
Was her heart moved by the offer? Yes, deeply.
Lin Xinyi loved acting. She loved the experience of stepping into another person’s life and becoming someone else. She enjoyed the creative process of building a character from scratch. This invitation letter was clearly a stepping stone to something greater. But even so, she hesitated.
“Lin Xinyi, what’s wrong?” Xu Shijiu looked up and noticed Lin Xinyi standing in a daze. She reached for her crutch and attempted to get up. “Did something happen?”
“I…” Lin Xinyi snapped out of it but hadn’t answered yet when Xu Shijiu startled her by trying to stand. Lin Xinyi quickly rushed over to support her, her tone full of concern. “What are you doing? Don’t push yourself like this. The doctor said regular physical therapy is important, but doing too much will only slow your recovery and hurt your body.”
“Did you forget everything they told you?”
“I didn’t forget,” Xu Shijiu responded quickly, but her legs were still moving.
“Then stop right now.” Lin Xinyi gently tapped the back of Xu Shijiu’s hand and firmly guided the Alpha back down onto the sofa.
Xu Shijiu tried to resist but failed. A wave of discouragement washed over her.
“What is it now?” Lin Xinyi smiled at the look on Xu Shijiu’s face, holding back the urge to pinch her cheek.
“I can’t even win against an Omega.” Xu Shijiu had felt weak before, and this wasn’t the first time she was disappointed by her fragile, recovering body.
With just a gentle push from an Omega, she became completely immobile. How could she ever protect her Omega like this?
“Things will get better. Once your leg is healed, you can start training again, go for walks, and build your strength. Everything will get better,” Lin Xinyi said, encouraging her softly. “When that time comes, it’ll be your turn to protect me.”
She knew what Xu Shijiu was struggling with.
“Alright.” Xu Shijiu nodded. She could now stand with the support of a crutch. When she no longer needed it, she would begin training. She believed that one day, she would be able to stand strong in front of Lin Xinyi and protect her, instead of being the one protected.
But in her heart, she silently prayed.
Please wait for me, Lin Xinyi.
“Meow”
Two cats ran down the stairs, recognizing the scent of their owners, and eagerly leapt into the arms of Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi.
“Black Tuan and White Tuan seem to have gained weight again,” Xu Shijiu said as she picked up Black Tuan, then White Tuan. Feeling their weight, she chuckled. “They used to be so tiny. Now look how big they’ve gotten.”
“When my sister comes home and sees these two, she’ll definitely be frightened,” Lin Xinyi laughed. She couldn’t help but smile at the memory of her sister hiding behind Liu Lingyan the first time she saw the cats.
“That’s right. Your sister is afraid of cats,” Xu Shijiu replied, but her mood suddenly became heavy. Her sister was afraid of cats, yet still allowed her to keep Black Tuan and White Tuan.
“I heard from the doctor that your sister’s injury reopened,” Xu Shijiu said in a low voice. Her expression turned sorrowful.
She truly could not understand how her sister was caring for herself, or what Auntie was doing to help. What she understood even less was why her sister would use her poor health to force her not to visit.
“She’ll get better,” Lin Xinyi said gently, offering what comfort she could.
Not only was Xu Shijiu forbidden from visiting, but Lin Xinyi was also told to stay away. Now, they could only rely on updates from the bodyguards and Auntie to keep up with her condition.
They both wanted to visit in person but were afraid it might upset her. The only way they could stay connected was by sending her cheerful messages every day.
Visiting the set had been a spontaneous decision. The public already knew that Lin Xinyi was Xu Shijiu’s fiancée, so there was no need to keep things secret. After completing her day’s work, Xu Shijiu contacted a bakery and ordered a variety of cakes to be delivered.
Sitting in the back seat of the car, Xu Shijiu held a strawberry cake in her hands, imagining Lin Xinyi’s reaction when she saw it. Her eyes would definitely light up with joy. Lin Xinyi loved strawberries.
Last year, on Lin Xinyi’s birthday, Xu Shijiu had learned to bake a cake with help from the bakery. She used lots of strawberries, and even though Lin Xinyi was usually careful about her sugar intake, that night she ate a lot.
“You and Miss Lin really have a beautiful relationship,” the driver commented as he glanced in the rearview mirror at the young woman in the backseat, whose smile radiated joy.
“Of course we do,” Xu Shijiu replied proudly, her eyes filled with confidence and happiness.
Her arrival brought a pleasant surprise to the film set. The director had wanted to chat with her for a while, but Xu Shijiu politely declined and wheeled herself straight to Lin Xinyi’s dressing room.
“Who just arrived?” Lin Xinyi’s manager had just returned from the restroom and saw the lively scene. Everyone in the crew was holding a small cake, enjoying it happily.
“It’s Miss Xu from the Xu Group. She came to visit Xinyi. I saw her go straight to Xinyi’s dressing room,” the director explained.
“Miss Xu…” The manager paused for a moment, then suddenly slapped her thigh in panic. “Oh no!”
“What’s wrong?” The director looked confused as the normally calm manager suddenly ran off at top speed.
What was wrong?
If Miss Xu saw Lin Xinyi and Ling Mian filming together, that would be a real problem.
In the show, Lin Xinyi and Ling Mian played childhood friends with a deeply affectionate and romantic bond. Their scenes were filled with chemistry. If someone as possessive as Miss Xu saw them acting together so closely, how would she react?
It would be complete chaos.
And it truly was. Xu Shijiu’s heart was in turmoil.
She had wanted to surprise Lin Xinyi. She had quietly pushed the dressing room door open just a crack and peeked inside, hoping to catch a glimpse of her.
And then, she saw it.
A scene so painful and vivid it pierced straight through her heart.
Ling Mian, the Alpha who Lin Xinyi had once casually mentioned as just a classmate from the same year, was now holding Lin Xinyi closely. The Omega leaned against the Alpha’s chest, looking up at her with eyes full of silent affection. The distance between them was shrinking with every breath.
And then Xu Shijiu saw it.
They kissed.
A soft splatter broke the silence.
The strawberry cake in her hands slipped to the floor. Its delicate packaging was no match for the fall. The beautifully crafted cake was ruined. The centerpiece shifted, the white cream smeared across the box, and the once vibrant strawberries lay crooked and unbalanced.
Unlike fragile glass that shatters into pieces when dropped, this cake remained intact, but it had lost its beauty and perfection.
Inside the room, no one noticed the movement outside the door. Perhaps they were too caught up in the kiss to sense anything else. They were completely immersed, as if nothing in the world mattered more.
Xu Shijiu was halfway down the hallway when she ran into Lin Xinyi’s manager, who was breathless from running.
“Miss Xu, are you looking for Miss Lin?” she asked between gasps.
“I couldn’t find which room is hers,” Xu Shijiu replied calmly.
“I see. Would you like me to take you there?” The manager let out a small sigh of relief. She remembered that Lin Xinyi and Ling Mian were about to film a kiss scene. If Miss Xu had walked in on that, the consequences could have been explosive.
She silently thanked the fact that this crew did not label the doors with names. If they had, Miss Xu would definitely have walked straight into that room and seen everything.
“A sudden call came in. There’s an emergency at the company,” Xu Shijiu said, shaking her head. She handed the strawberry cake on her lap to the manager. “I dropped the cake earlier. I ordered several for the crew, including one specially for her. Please bring her a new strawberry one in my place.”
“Oh, of course, Miss Xu,” the manager said quickly, taking the box from her. After seeing Miss Xu off, she went to get a replacement cake.
When she opened the dressing room door, she saw Lin Xinyi and Ling Mian sitting on the sofa, seriously discussing the script. She placed two strawberry cakes on the table and explained, “Miss Xu stopped by earlier and ordered cakes for the entire crew. She had one special one for you, but it got dropped by accident. She had to leave urgently because of work, so she asked me to bring you a new one.”
“Xu Shijiu came?” Lin Xinyi’s eyes lit up in surprise. She was happy, but upon hearing that Xu Shijiu had already left, a sense of disappointment followed. She picked up the strawberry cake, holding it carefully, her heart warmed by the gesture.
“You always seem so composed. I didn’t expect you to be like most Omegas, loving strawberry cake,” Ling Mian teased. Although she wasn’t fond of sweets herself, knowing the cake came from Xu Shijiu made her curious enough to take a bite with a small fork.
“Strawberry cake is special,” Lin Xinyi said with a gentle shake of her head. She ate slowly, savoring every bite.
To her, strawberry cake was the taste of home.
Whenever her father came home, he would always bring her a strawberry cake. When she was alone, the house never felt like home. But when her father returned, it did. That memory became deeply rooted in her mind. Strawberry cake became the flavor she missed the most.
For a long time, no one other than her father had ever brought her one. But now, things had changed. She had found a sense of home again. She had someone she could call family.
“This is too sweet,” Ling Mian said with a grimace, the sugary taste overwhelming her.
“Why did you become an actress anyway? You’re from the Ling family in Country F,” Lin Xinyi asked curiously.
“I didn’t expect you to be interested in gossip,” Ling Mian replied with a slight smile.
“We’re all human. And with the rumors flying around this crew, it’s natural to be curious,” Lin Xinyi said honestly.
“I’ve always been drawn to this world. I also wanted to break away from my family, so I chose acting.” Ling Mian poked at her cake absentmindedly with her fork, clearly distracted.
“Country F is wealthy and prosperous. Why would you be drawn to a small city like this?” Lin Xinyi found it hard to believe.
“There are some things in this city that Country F doesn’t have,” Ling Mian said quietly.
She looked at Lin Xinyi with a complicated expression for a moment before glancing away.
Lin Xinyi was smart. As an Omega, she was more perceptive than most. Ling Mian couldn’t reveal her true purpose for coming here. If she did, it would only cause trouble for everyone involved. She had no choice but to keep it to herself.
And she would keep it to herself, no matter how much it weighed on her.
