You Are My Omega - Chapter 60
Lin Zhiling had been quietly keeping track of Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi, using her own methods and resources. So when something happened to the Xu family, it did not escape her notice. She found out about it very quickly.
“I’m going to find Xinyi right now,” Lin Zhiling said as she hung up the phone. Her eyes clearly showed real worry.
“I’m coming too,” Mother Lin said as she stood up. Just thinking about the Omega she once saw at the hospital and what she might be going through now made her heart ache painfully.
“You can’t come, Mom,” Lin Zhiling said while putting on her shoes. She frowned slightly. Her mother, who was usually calm and rational, always lost her composure when it came to Lin Xinyi.
“Why not? I’m worried about her,” Mother Lin said as she reached for her shoes, only for Lin Zhiling to quickly stop her hand.
“Mom, Xinyi will notice,” Lin Zhiling said gently but firmly. Her expression showed helplessness. If her mother’s visit would not raise suspicion, she would have allowed it. But Lin Xinyi was a very sensitive person, and her mother had already revealed too much in front of her before. If she went now, it would be noticed for sure.
“I just want to take one look at her,” Mother Lin said softly. Her voice was filled with quiet longing. She just wanted to see for herself that Lin Xinyi was doing well.
Now that something serious had happened to the Xu family, with the person in charge lying in a hospital bed and a young and inexperienced Alpha trying to handle the company, no one could be sure what kind of situation Lin Xinyi was in.
Even though Lin Zhiling’s quiet investigations had shown that the Xu family had never mistreated Lin Xinyi, she could not help but worry if their kindness would hold up during a real crisis.
“Do you want Xinyi to notice your concern and then ask Xu Shijiu to investigate?” Lin Zhiling asked directly as she calmly pressed a scent-blocking patch against her neck.
“I understand. I won’t go,” Mother Lin said at last. She did not want to admit it, but she knew everything her daughter said was true.
Lin Zhiling went straight to the film set. She brought plenty of snacks and drinks for the crew and actors and chatted happily with the manager along the way. Her smile never left her face until she opened the door to Lin Xinyi’s dressing room.
With Xu Entertainment supporting Lin Xinyi and her identity as a top-tier Omega, which was considered extremely rare, she received very good treatment.
The dressing room was spacious and elegantly furnished, but Lin Xinyi was in no mood to care about any of that. Her attention was locked on the Omega sitting on the sofa, and more importantly, on the Alpha who had her arm around the Omega’s waist, sitting very close. From Lin Xinyi’s angle, it almost looked like the two were about to cling to each other.
“Lin Xinyi!” Lin Zhiling called out in shock as she rushed over and pulled them apart. “What were you two doing?”
She could not believe what she had just seen. And she definitely did not want to believe the terrible thought that crossed her mind.
“Huh?” Lin Xinyi was confused. She stared at Lin Zhiling for a moment before she came back to her senses. “Zhiling? What are you doing here?”
“That doesn’t matter. What were you doing just now with that Alpha?” Lin Zhiling asked as she pulled Lin Xinyi protectively toward her and glared at the Alpha nearby, who looked calm and polite.
For some reason, Lin Zhiling thought this Alpha’s expression reminded her a little of Xu Shijiu.
“Nothing happened,” Lin Xinyi said honestly. “We were just rehearsing a scene.”
“Rehearsing?” Lin Zhiling realized she had misunderstood but still did not let it go. “You are an Omega. She is an Alpha. You should keep a proper distance.”
Lin Xinyi did not respond. Her face was full of helplessness.
The Alpha let out a soft laugh and looked at Lin Zhiling with amused curiosity. “I didn’t do anything illegal.”
“You are an Omega who goes into heat. She is an Alpha who experiences sensitivity phases. How can the two of you be that close?” Lin Zhiling blushed slightly and spoke with extra seriousness.
“Zhiling, we are just filming. Nothing actually happened,” Lin Xinyi said with a sigh. She gently patted Lin Zhiling’s hand, trying to calm her down, then introduced them. “This is my friend Lin Zhiling. And this Alpha is Ling Mian, the female lead in the movie I’m working on.”
“Nice to meet you, fierce little kitten,” Ling Mian said with a playful smile. As expected, Lin Zhiling’s expression cracked just a little, which made Ling Mian even more amused.
“Miss Ling, that is very disrespectful,” Lin Zhiling said sharply. Lin Xinyi had not expected Ling Mian to say something like that either. Although Ling Mian had a playful personality, she usually knew her boundaries, especially in front of Omegas.
“The kitten is angry,” Ling Mian said with a laugh. She quickly left the room before Lin Zhiling could get even angrier. “I’ll leave you two beautiful Omegas to catch up. I won’t stay here and get in the way.”
“Ling Mian!” Lin Zhiling shouted after her. This was the first time she had been teased so openly by an Alpha, and the anger had nowhere to go.
“Zhiling, calm down. Don’t take her seriously,” Lin Xinyi quickly tried to comfort her. She did not know what had gotten into Ling Mian to suddenly act this way and provoke Zhiling on purpose.
“Are you sure you were not bullied?” Lin Zhiling asked seriously. She was terrified that her precious friend might have been hurt without her knowledge.
“I’m sure,” Lin Xinyi replied with confidence.
“If Xu Shijiu finds out about this, it’s going to be a problem,” Lin Zhiling said with genuine concern. Xu Shijiu was known to be extremely possessive. Even if she smelled the faintest trace of another Alpha’s scent on Lin Xinyi, she might explode.
Lin Xinyi’s body stiffened a little. She quickly said, “Please help me keep this from Xu Shijiu.”
She was scared of what might happen. She remembered the last time she accidentally came home with a trace of Alpha scent on her. Xu Shijiu almost dragged her into the bathroom to scrub her clean and refused to speak to her for days. It took a lot of coaxing to calm her down.
“Keeping it a secret is not a good idea. Did you forget how bad it was last time when she found out you lied?” Lin Zhiling reminded her.
The truth always finds its way out. Secrets never stay hidden forever. What would they do if it happened again?
“You promised her you would not keep secrets anymore,” Lin Zhiling said, hoping Lin Xinyi would confess everything honestly.
It was normal for actors to have physical contact during filming. How else would they perform? Xu Shijiu’s possessiveness might scare Lin Xinyi, but Lin Zhiling understood it.
Because she understood that kind of love. When someone is so precious to you, you simply cannot tolerate anyone else getting close.
“I know, but Xu Shijiu is already overwhelmed managing the company. I don’t want her to be distracted by something so small,” Lin Xinyi said with a sigh. “She is already exhausted trying to manage both the company and her physical therapy.”
“So does that mean you two won’t be returning to school next semester?” Lin Zhiling asked.
“When my sister recovers, she will return to the company. I guess we won’t be going back to school until then,” Lin Xinyi said calmly, showing no concern about her studies. “Shijiu and I already finished the entire second semester of our sophomore year during the break.”
“The entire semester?” Lin Zhiling was stunned.
“Yes,” Lin Xinyi replied with a nod.
Lin Zhiling shook her head with a helpless smile. “You two really are overachievers. I was so naïve to worry about you.”
“Don’t say that. We’re always thankful for your concern,” Lin Xinyi replied sincerely. She had never really had a close friend before, but Lin Zhiling was an exception.
“By the way, don’t you think Ling Mian looks a bit like Xu Shijiu around the eyes?” Lin Zhiling asked. She could not get the images of Xu Shijiu and Ling Mian out of her head.
“Really? I think that’s just your imagination,” Lin Xinyi said. She had never noticed such a resemblance and believed it was just a mistaken impression.
“Maybe I haven’t seen Xu Shijiu in too long, so I got confused for a moment,” Lin Zhiling said thoughtfully. “Anyway, a flirtatious Alpha like Ling Mian could never compare to the treasure of our class.”
Lin Xinyi gave her a side-eye. “Our class? Since when was Xu Shijiu ‘ours’?”
“My mistake, my mistake,” Lin Zhiling said quickly and playfully tapped her own mouth. “I meant your Alpha.”
That finally made Lin Xinyi smile with satisfaction. She set down her water glass and went off to film her scene.
Just as Lin Xinyi left for filming, Ling Mian finished her scene and happened to spot Lin Zhiling. As soon as their eyes met, Ling Mian headed straight toward her.
Lin Zhiling immediately turned to leave.
“Hey! Lin Zhiling! Why are you in such a hurry?” Ling Mian called out as she quickened her pace. But Lin Zhiling only walked faster, although in the end, she still couldn’t escape from the persistent Alpha who looked every bit the troublemaker.
“What do you want?” Lin Zhiling asked, clearly annoyed. She looked at Ling Mian’s smug smile and regretted ever thinking she looked anything like Xu Shijiu. That must have been a moment of complete confusion.
“There is something,” Ling Mian said casually. She did not seem bothered by Lin Zhiling’s obvious dislike. Still, noticing the wariness in Lin Zhiling’s eyes, she decided to hold back from pushing too far.
Startling her would only make things worse.
“What is it?” Lin Zhiling said coldly. She was clearly hoping to get this conversation over with quickly and leave.
The more Lin Zhiling tried to avoid her, the more amusing Ling Mian found her. She could not resist teasing her.
“It’s nothing really, just that…”
“Then I’ll be going,” Lin Zhiling interrupted immediately, not waiting for her to finish. She turned and left, eager to get away from the chaos.
“I just really want to see that little kitten again,” Ling Mian said softly to herself, grinning as she watched Lin Zhiling walk away.
