You Are My Omega - Chapter 59
Liu Lingyan had never been a cruel person. Even after learning the truth behind the car accident back then, her attitude had never changed. That was why Xu Shijiu had always believed she would never truly blame her. Until now.
Until she heard Liu Lingyan firmly say just one word.
“No.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t have the courage to ask again. All the hope she had carried in her heart suddenly felt foolish and embarrassing in the face of that simple answer.
She had been too naive. She had been foolish to hope for something more.
Xu Manyue had survived. The doctor said that during the emergency, her heart had stopped more than once. At one point, she had completely lost the will to live. It was only when the nurses kept calling out the names “Xu Shijiu,” “Liu Lingyan,” and “Rice Ball” that her will to fight finally returned.
“Don’t worry. She mainly needs rest now so her wounds can heal. But be careful with her stomach. No more alcohol or foods that might irritate it,” the doctor explained gently.
“Thank you, Doctor. We understand,” Lin Xinyi replied, nodding and carefully memorizing every word.
Liu Lingyan stood several steps away from the hospital bed. Xu Shijiu, in her wheelchair, moved closer to the bedside. Both of them stared at the unconscious Alpha whose face was pale and whose eyes remained closed.
“My sister will be taken care of. Lin Xinyi and I will handle everything here. Sister Liu, you should go home,” Xu Shijiu said calmly.
If her sister were awake, she probably would not want Liu Lingyan to see her in this weak and helpless state.
Alphas often hated showing vulnerability in front of Omegas. That was what most people believed. Xu Shijiu did not consider herself one of those Alphas, but her sister certainly was.
“I want to stay,” Liu Lingyan replied, shaking her head. She could not bring herself to leave, not when her heart was still so anxious.
“I’ve already contacted a caregiver through one of the Xu family’s bodyguards. Please, Sister Liu, just go home. Rice Ball is still at home alone and might be scared,” Lin Xinyi said, trying to persuade her gently.
She could sense that Xu Shijiu was not herself. Her emotions were tense and unstable. Lin Xinyi did not know what had triggered her mood, but she feared that if Xu Shijiu lost control, she might say something she would later regret.
Unfortunately, Lin Xinyi was not able to stop the outburst.
As soon as Liu Lingyan took a single step toward Xu Manyue’s bed, Xu Shijiu snapped. Her voice cracked, sharp and filled with pain.
“If you never planned to forgive her, if you never wanted to start over, then please stay away from her!”
“That accident hurt everyone. My sister has suffered enough over the years. Why do you still have to blame her? Why do you insist it was all her fault?”
“She was just lonely. She missed our mom. She only made a phone call to urge her to come home. How could she have predicted a car accident would happen? Why do you keep blaming her?”
“If you resent her so much, then why are you even here? If you hate her, then stay far away from her. Stay away forever. Don’t meet again. Forget each other completely.”
Liu Lingyan was completely stunned. She looked at Xu Shijiu’s tear-streaked face, full of exhaustion, fury, and helplessness. Her heart ached deeply, and she instinctively took several steps back.
“Xu Shijiu!” Lin Xinyi hurried to her side and tried to stop her. “That’s enough!”
Her voice was firmer than before. She feared Xu Shijiu would regret everything she had just said. If she could, she would have covered her mouth to stop her.
“Lin Xinyi, don’t stop me!” Xu Shijiu had completely lost control. Her reasoning had vanished.
“Xu Shijiu, how is your sister supposed to rest if you keep yelling like this?”
That one sentence finally brought Xu Shijiu back to reality. She leaned into Lin Xinyi’s arms, breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling with every breath as she calmed down from the intense outburst.
Liu Lingyan quietly left.
She had wanted to stay. She truly did. But staying would only make things worse. It would only bring more pain to Xu Manyue. It would only cause Xu Shijiu more distress.
Shortly after Liu Lingyan left, Xu Manyue woke up.
Xu Shijiu’s eyes were swollen from crying. Seeing her like that, Xu Manyue could not help but smile softly, both helpless and moved.
“Don’t cry anymore. Our little Shijiu has cried herself into a little white rabbit.”
“I still have something very important to ask of you…”
Later, Lin Xinyi pushed Xu Shijiu through the front doors of Xu Entertainment’s main office. As soon as they entered, a secretary came forward, offering respectful greetings. There was no trace of disrespect, despite Xu Shijiu’s young age or her being in a wheelchair.
Yes, what Xu Manyue had asked of Xu Shijiu was to become the acting CEO.
Xu Shijiu refused immediately when she heard it. But Xu Manyue insisted. She told her that if Xu Shijiu refused, she would get out of bed and go to the company herself. That was the only reason Xu Shijiu finally agreed.
“Xu Shijiu, do you want me to go with you…” Lin Xinyi asked hesitantly.
According to their original plan, this was the moment Lin Xinyi was supposed to leave. She still had filming schedules waiting. But when she looked at Xu Shijiu’s slim figure, she could not bear to walk away.
“You have your own work to do,” Xu Shijiu replied with a small shake of her head.
Her palms were slick with sweat from nervousness, but she did not show a single sign of fear on her face.
She was not at home anymore. This was the company. This was not a place where she could let her guard down or reveal her vulnerability.
She was scared. Deeply scared. But she had to take this step forward.
Her sister wanted her to take it. Otherwise, she could have simply handed everything over to the secretaries and taken care of paperwork from her hospital bed.
“But…” Lin Xinyi still hesitated.
Without realizing it, things had changed between them. In the past, it was always the Alpha who hesitated, who was afraid to step forward and face a new world. It was always the Omega who pushed the Alpha forward.
But now, it was different.
Now it was the Alpha who wanted to change. And the one who hesitated was the Omega.
“You’re earning money for our company too, aren’t you?” Xu Shijiu smiled.
Lin Xinyi nodded. Her eyes were filled with worry. She knew that Xu Shijiu was still afraid. She knew that seeing so many people at once like this could overwhelm her.
Was this really the right thing to do? Would it be too much for her?
No matter how worried she was, Lin Xinyi was still urged away by the temporary manager. Before leaving, she turned back and reminded Xu Shijiu, “I’ll come home right after filming tonight. Take good care of yourself.”
By now, Lin Xinyi had become a fairly well-known actress in the entertainment industry. She had signed directly with Xu Entertainment, which was expected. However, Xu Manyue had never tried to tie her down with a long-term contract.
Xu Manyue had given Lin Xinyi both protection and freedom.
“I know. Don’t worry,” Xu Shijiu replied warmly. She watched as Lin Xinyi was led away by her manager, turning back every few steps. As her figure finally disappeared from sight, a heavy sense of loss settled in Xu Shijiu’s heart.
Even though she had spoken firmly and confidently, watching her Omega leave still made her feel sad.
Xu Manyue had paved the way for her long ago. And it wasn’t just the path that had been prepared. She had already arranged a secretary and assistant to help Xu Shijiu learn the entire operation of the company. It was as if she had foreseen her own accident. Despite the CEO’s injury, the massive company remained stable without a single ripple.
This also brought great relief to the employees and artists who had seen the breaking news about the CEO’s injury.
“Was all of this arranged by my sister?” Xu Shijiu stared at the neatly stacked documents on the desk, a complicated look in her eyes. A bold idea suddenly came to mind.
“Yes, Vice President Xu. President Xu planned this a long time ago,” the secretary answered with a serious expression.
Xu Shijiu rubbed her forehead and frowned. “How could she have…”
How could she have prepared all of this in advance? Did she truly believe that no matter what, Xu Shijiu would eventually come to Xu Entertainment? When had her sister started planning all of this?
“President Xu once said that this company would always be yours to inherit.” The secretary repeated what Xu Manyue had once told her. At the time, she didn’t fully understand, but now, seeing Xu Shijiu’s frown, she finally realized what her boss had meant.
President Xu had wanted to make sure her sister believed she was the rightful successor.
“I don’t have the ability to manage a company this big,” Xu Shijiu admitted, a bit discouraged.
The secretary offered comfort. “It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed at first. If it were easy, then those who study for years wouldn’t have to work so hard.”
“That’s another thing my sister told you to say, isn’t it?” Xu Shijiu asked with a small laugh.
The secretary paused, then nodded. “Yes, it is.”
“My sister is still young. And I’m still in school. There’s no rush to talk about inheritance.” Xu Shijiu couldn’t bring herself to accept the idea of being the company’s successor. After all, she wasn’t a real member of the Xu family.
No matter what, the company should eventually go to Rice Ball.
The secretary didn’t say anything more. She didn’t tell Xu Shijiu that President Xu had already brought this matter up during a board meeting. Her stance had been firm, leaving no room for argument. The strength of her position had forced the board members to accept it.
She also didn’t tell Xu Shijiu that President Xu had already written a will. The secretary had accompanied her during the process and knew exactly what it contained.
President Xu was still so young, yet she had already prepared a will. During that time, the secretary had been anxious every day, constantly afraid that President Xu might do something irreversible.
She never understood why her once loving and affectionate boss and her wife had suddenly separated, and with such finality.
It felt like President Xu no longer wanted to live.
That terrifying thought had once chilled the secretary to the bone. Fortunately, everything had seemed calm afterward. She thought President Xu had finally moved on.
But last night, when the news came in, she knew something was wrong.
All the bodyguards involved had been the best of the best. Yet only one person had been injured.
Only President Xu.
And that made no sense at all.
