You Are My Omega - Chapter 30
Whatever Xu Manyue and Liu Lingyan talked about, Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu had no idea. But the wedding date had been finalized. When they heard the news, Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi both felt a sense of relief.
As Xu Shijiu watched her sister and sister-in-law sitting across from her at the breakfast table, feeding each other sweetly, she quietly looked down at her plate of delicate pastries. She had just started eating, but suddenly felt full. After only a few bites, she put down her chopsticks.
“Shijiu, why aren’t you eating?” Liu Lingyan was the first to notice. She gently stopped Xu Manyue from putting another shrimp dumpling into her bowl and looked at Xu Shijiu with concern. “Do the pastries not suit your taste? You’ve barely eaten anything.”
“I’m fine,” Xu Shijiu replied, shaking her head. In her heart, she silently acknowledged how attentive Omegas could be. But when she saw the worry on Xu Manyue’s face, a tight feeling rose in her chest. Her sister only noticed her after her sister-in-law did.
That thought left Xu Shijiu feeling somewhat bitter.
Lin Xinyi picked up a shrimp dumpling with the shared chopsticks and placed it on Xu Shijiu’s plate. “Eat,” she urged softly.
Xu Shijiu picked up her chopsticks instinctively, started eating the dumpling, and let out a quiet huff of annoyance. Xu Manyue scratched her face awkwardly and lowered her head with a nervous chuckle.
“When are you holding the wedding ceremony?” Xu Shijiu asked suddenly.
Liu Lingyan paused for a moment before calmly setting down her glass of fresh juice. Xu Manyue, on the other hand, looked far less composed and nearly choked on her drink.
“We don’t plan on having a ceremony,” Liu Lingyan said firmly, meeting Xu Shijiu’s eyes.
Although they had already received their marriage certificate, a public ceremony would attract a lot of attention. That could seriously impact Liu Lingyan’s career. Moreover, Xu Manyue didn’t seem too eager to have a ceremony either.
Liu Lingyan wasn’t sure why, but she had a feeling that Xu Manyue was secretly conflicted about the idea of marriage. Whenever the topic came up, she would seem excited, but at night she would toss and turn, unable to sleep. Her entire demeanor would completely change.
“That’s right,” Xu Manyue added with a quiet nod.
“No ceremony?” Xu Shijiu frowned. “Why not?”
Most couples have a ceremony. Just registering the marriage without holding one seemed like they were trying to keep it secret.
“I…” Xu Manyue hesitated, not knowing how to respond to her younger sister’s direct question. Liu Lingyan immediately stepped in, helping to ease the tension and protect Xu Manyue from the sharpness of Xu Shijiu’s gaze.
“It’s because of my work,” Liu Lingyan explained.
Xu Shijiu looked at her, eyes filled with complex emotions. She didn’t press further. From the way her sister was avoiding the subject, it was clear that she was hiding something too.
“Xu Shijiu, school is about to start. We don’t have time to waste. You still haven’t finished your winter break homework,” Lin Xinyi said pointedly.
Her words hit the mark.
The moment Xu Shijiu heard the words “winter homework,” all her focus shifted. She turned to Lin Xinyi and complained, “You should’ve told me to start earlier.”
If Lin Xinyi had just planned things better, they wouldn’t be stuck cramming all the assignments into the final days. Now it was nothing but stress.
Lin Xinyi looked a little guilty and said nothing.
She had originally planned to finish the homework early. But after talking with Xu Manyue, they decided to push it to the end of the break. Xu Manyue had said she wanted to keep Xu Shijiu busy during the final days of the holiday. Lin Xinyi didn’t fully understand her reasoning, but clearly, her goal had been achieved.
Xu Shijiu had no idea that this stressful last-minute rush wasn’t some noble time management test from Lin Xinyi. It was actually a behind-the-scenes decision made by her sister.
A new semester meant a fresh start. And for Xu Shijiu, the first challenge of this new term was attending the opening ceremony.
Liu Lingyan was now extremely popular, so she couldn’t get out of the car. She watched as Xu Manyue accompanied Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu to the school entrance. As Xu Shijiu was pushed through the gates, Liu Lingyan felt a growing anxiety in her chest.
She remembered Xu Manyue mentioning that while Shijiu could now stay in school until the end of the day, she still needed Lin Xinyi by her side. Shijiu had also never taken part in large school gatherings before, such as flag-raising ceremonies or the upcoming opening ceremony.
Xu Manyue wanted to walk them all the way to the classroom, but Xu Shijiu refused. So she had no choice but to instruct the two new bodyguards to protect them, then reluctantly turned around. She kept looking back with every few steps until she finally got into the car.
“Why didn’t you take Shijiu to her classroom?” Liu Lingyan asked in surprise. Even last night, Xu Manyue had been muttering in her sleep about things to watch out for and reminders that made no sense.
“Xinyi’s with her. There’s nothing to worry about,” Xu Manyue replied. But her eyes stayed fixed on the school gate, clearly still worried. Her words said one thing, but her expression said something else entirely.
Liu Lingyan watched her partner’s tense expression and smiled gently. She reached out and patted the back of Xu Manyue’s hand.
“Don’t worry. Just like you said, Xinyi is with her.”
Lin Xinyi was a very dependable Omega. Xu Shijiu could safely be entrusted to her.
When Liu Lingyan first found out that Lin Xinyi was a top-tier Omega, she wasn’t surprised at all. Lin Xinyi was stunning. Her looks were unforgettable. Among all the Omegas Liu Lingyan had ever met, Lin Xinyi truly stood out.
Xu Manyue let out a sigh but didn’t say anything.
She knew very well that Lin Xinyi was dependable. There was no doubt about that. But knowing it didn’t stop her from worrying.
“Don’t be too nervous. Shijiu is doing much better now than before,” Liu Lingyan said gently, trying to reassure her. In the past, whenever Xu Manyue mentioned Xu Shijiu, she always looked heavy-hearted. The light in her eyes seemed dim, and her smile lacked its usual warmth. But lately, that had changed.
Now, whenever Xu Manyue spoke about Xu Shijiu, her expression was full of happiness and pride.
She was proud of every little step Xu Shijiu had taken, of every bit of progress she had made.
With Lin Xinyi’s influence and her own determination, Xu Shijiu had slowly begun to improve. Although Liu Lingyan didn’t spend much time with them, she could still clearly sense a bond between the two that no one else could replace.
Was it truly mutual understanding?
Liu Lingyan wasn’t entirely sure. To her, it always seemed like the moment Lin Xinyi put on a stern face, Xu Shijiu would immediately become obedient, just like a student caught misbehaving by their teacher. She would quiet down instantly, and her behavior would become cautious and respectful.
It was a strange feeling. Watching the way they interacted made Liu Lingyan feel both curious and amazed.
There were certainly Alphas who listened to their Omega partners, but not many to that extent.
A light breeze brushed past. Xu Shijiu instinctively reached up to press down her thick bangs, making sure not a single strand was lifted by the wind.
Lin Xinyi noticed the movement, but said nothing.
Xu Manyue had told her that there was a scar on Xu Shijiu’s forehead. A terrible, startling scar. But Lin Xinyi had never seen it, not even once. Xu Shijiu hid it well, so well that it was nearly invisible. And Lin Xinyi knew that she didn’t want anyone to see it, especially not her. So every time she noticed Xu Shijiu trying to hide it, she silently respected her wishes and acted as if she hadn’t seen anything at all.
“Xinyi!”
As soon as they entered the classroom, Lin Xinyi was quickly surrounded by several Omegas who hadn’t seen her in a while.
“Hi, Xinyi!”
“It’s been so long, Xinyi!”
“Xinyi, when are you collecting the homework? Can you wait a bit longer? I’m still finishing mine…”
“Xinyi, did you go anywhere fun over the break?”
The moment Lin Xinyi stepped into the room, a flood of greetings and chatter filled the classroom. Even students from other classes who heard the commotion came running to peek through the windows, hoping to catch a glimpse of the school’s most well-known Omega. They wanted to see the person who had not only become famous across campus but had also ranked first in the entire seventh grade at the end of last semester.
In everyone’s mind, it was impossible for an Omega to surpass an Alpha.
This belief was deeply rooted in society, something almost everyone accepted without question. So Lin Xinyi’s success—especially in areas where she had outperformed even the top Alphas, including sports—had shocked the entire school.
Of course, Xu Shijiu was also well-known on campus.
She was the only student with her specific physical condition, and combined with her unusual background, there was no way she would go unnoticed. But the question was what she was known for.
Fame could come in many forms, and what people said behind one’s back was often unknown.
Xu Shijiu could feel just how popular Lin Xinyi was. Her lips tightened, and she lowered her head, not saying a single word. She quietly listened as Lin Xinyi calmly responded to everyone around her.
If she could, Xu Shijiu would have run away from that place immediately.
But when she looked at the warm, pale hand holding her own cold fingers so tightly, she found herself unable to move. She stood still, obediently waiting for everything to quiet down. She waited for the noise to fade.
If it was Lin Xinyi by her side, if Lin Xinyi was there with her, then maybe…
She could endure it.
