You Are My Omega - Chapter 28
Eventually, everything settled down. Xu Manyue and Xu Shijiu made up as well. Once Xu Manyue realized her mistake, she no longer mentioned Liu Lingyan or the baby in front of Shijiu. She also adjusted her schedule to make time to properly be with her.
If she could, Xu Manyue would have liked to invite Liu Lingyan to move into the Xu family home, but clearly, that was not yet possible.
Ever since that night, Lin Xinyi had occasionally observed Xu Manyue more closely. She paid attention to her expressions, her eyes, and her behavior. But Xu Manyue acted exactly the same as she always did, as if nothing had changed at all.
It almost felt like what Lin Xinyi sensed that night—the strange, subtle shift in Xu Manyue’s presence—had all been in her imagination.
But was it really just her imagination?
Lin Xinyi wasn’t sure.
Maybe it was. Or maybe it wasn’t. Without knowing what had really happened between the Xu sisters, she had no way to judge.
“Sis, let’s have Sister Liu move in and live with us,” Xu Shijiu said suddenly as she held her warm cup and stared into the water inside.
Xu Manyue’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly hid her reaction. She pressed her lips together and asked carefully, “Really?”
Shijiu looked at her sister’s face and sighed. “When have I ever lied to you?”
Lin Xinyi was quite surprised, even though she kept a calm expression, pretending as if she had expected this all along. In reality, she had no idea. Over the past few days, every time she and Shijiu worked on homework together, Shijiu seemed embarrassed to even meet her eyes. How could she have known this would happen?
It was only a matter of time before Liu Lingyan moved into the Xu household and officially became part of the family. There was no doubt about it.
After all, Xu Manyue had already marked her permanently, and now they had a child on the way. The role of the Xu family’s future matriarch was already decided.
Neither Lin Xinyi nor Xu Shijiu could quite picture what Liu Lingyan was like in a professional setting. They couldn’t imagine how she handled things at work, how she managed a team or performed under pressure.
At home, Xu Manyue was so mild-tempered that she had no presence as a leader. Every time Shijiu teased her or pointed out something bluntly, she would instantly fold. It was hard to imagine how she maintained authority at the company.
There was a time when Xu Shijiu didn’t dare step outside the Xu household. Not because she lacked curiosity, but because she was too afraid to leave the one place she felt safe.
But that had changed. Things were different now.
So when Xu Manyue suggested taking them both to visit the company, neither Shijiu nor Xinyi hesitated. They agreed immediately.
The three of them packed up and got into the car headed for the office.
“Yanyan is already at the company. Her belongings were delivered to the house and everything is settled there,” Xu Manyue said as she glanced toward Shijiu, carefully watching her expression. “I was thinking we could pick her up later and go home together. Would that be alright?”
Although Shijiu had been the one to bring it up, Xu Manyue still couldn’t fully relax. She was worried that Shijiu might change her mind or feel uneasy.
“Let’s go home together,” Shijiu replied firmly.
“By the way, Sister, does Sister Liu still have a lot of work?” Lin Xinyi asked with concern.
As one of the most in-demand actresses at the moment, Liu Lingyan was certainly busy with various projects and appearances. Even before the pregnancy, she and Xu Manyue rarely got to meet in person. Most of their communication happened through messages or calls. Now that she was expecting, surely her schedule had changed.
“I asked her agent to cancel most of her jobs,” Xu Manyue explained. “Only a few major brand endorsements remain. Some commitments just can’t be canceled, so those will be postponed until after the baby is three months along and everything is more stable.”
Xu Manyue was clearly not satisfied with this arrangement.
She had hoped Liu Lingyan could drop everything and rest at home until the baby was born. But that was obviously impossible. Liu Lingyan was at the height of her career. There was no way she could disappear from the public eye completely. On top of that, Liu Lingyan herself didn’t want to stay home all the time.
Fortunately, her pregnancy symptoms hadn’t been too severe so far.
“Sister Liu is not the type of Omega who will just stay quietly at home,” Xu Shijiu said without surprise. After interacting with her a few times, she had seen through Liu Lingyan’s seemingly gentle and passive surface. Underneath, she was firm and determined when it came to things she believed in.
She was an independent Omega who refused to rely on an Alpha.
“Exactly,” Xu Manyue shrugged. “If that’s what she wants to do, I can only support her.”
Liu Lingyan had always been an Omega who valued independence. Xu Manyue knew that side of her better than anyone.
Xu Shijiu looked up and met her sister’s gaze through the rearview mirror. She asked, clearly and seriously, “When do you plan to get married?”
“What?” Xu Manyue froze.
Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu exchanged a glance. From each other’s expressions, they both saw the same disbelief.
They weren’t even going to bring up the fact that Manyue had already marked Liu Lingyan permanently. Now she was pregnant too. In this situation, shouldn’t she have formally brought Liu Lingyan into the family by now?
“You’re not planning to marry your Omega?” Shijiu said, raising her voice slightly. She was so caught off guard that she even changed how she addressed Liu Lingyan, calling her “sister-in-law” for the first time.
“I don’t think that’s very responsible of you, Sister,” Lin Xinyi added in a much gentler tone. “You already have a child on the way. If not now, then when?”
To their surprise, Xu Manyue didn’t answer right away.
She fell silent instead.
“Sister… she’s already pregnant,” Shijiu said again, completely unable to believe what she was hearing. “You’re not an irresponsible Alpha… right?”
Lin Xinyi frowned deeply. She had always believed that the Xu sisters were responsible Alphas. She never imagined that at such an important time, Xu Manyue would still be hesitating about whether to marry Sister Liu.
To both Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu, that kind of hesitation felt completely wrong.
“I know,” Xu Manyue said. Her brows were slightly furrowed, and only then did she notice the way Shijiu and Xinyi were looking at her. Their eyes carried a quiet but clear disapproval, and she couldn’t help but twitch her lips awkwardly.
“I’m not being irresponsible,” she said quickly, forcing a small smile. “How could I possibly be irresponsible?”
That was her Omega. And inside her was a child who shared her blood.
Of course she would take responsibility.
She had always been the kind of Alpha who stood by her responsibilities. She truly wanted to do the right thing. The problem was that she didn’t know what Liu Lingyan wanted. Right now, Lingyan was in a critical stage of her career, and Manyue didn’t want to pressure her.
She had brought up the idea of marriage once before. But Liu Lingyan had turned her down. Manyue could understand. Back then, Lingyan’s popularity was rising quickly. Getting married would have affected her image and her opportunities. Staying single allowed her more freedom to grow.
After being turned down once, it became difficult to bring it up again. That was why, even now, there was still no legal marriage between them.
“Then what exactly is the reason…” Shijiu started to ask, still confused. But before she could finish, the car came to a stop.
“We’re at the company. Let’s go up and talk inside,” said Xu Manyue as she opened the car door and stepped out.
Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu could only follow behind.
The employees at the company immediately recognized their boss’s car. As the vehicle pulled up, people naturally slowed their steps. The receptionist at the front desk sat up straight, ready to welcome the boss as usual.
As Xu Manyue stepped out, the employees instinctively prepared to bow. But when they saw her walk to the backseat, curiosity began to spread in their eyes.
Manyue paid no attention to the looks directed at her. She opened the trunk, took out the folded wheelchair, and set it up. Then she pushed it to the back door and gently helped Xu Shijiu into the seat.
“I can do it myself,” Shijiu said, cooperating but mumbling under her breath.
With her sister waiting outside and Lin Xinyi watching closely from inside the car, it all felt like too much. She wasn’t helpless.
For the employees, seeing Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu arrive was a complete shock. But to Lin Xinyi and Shijiu, seeing the employees was equally surprising.
Why?
Because these were not ordinary office staff. These were people they had only ever seen on television.
One after another, familiar faces appeared. Actors, models, and other celebrities they had watched from afar were now standing right in front of them. Seeing these people in real life was like watching the television screen suddenly come to life. The shock was undeniable.
Inside the CEO’s office, Liu Lingyan had been waiting. When she saw the stunned looks on Shijiu and Xinyi’s faces, she laughed softly and covered her mouth with one hand.
“What kind of expressions are those?”
“We’re just shocked to see people from television appear in front of us,” Xu Manyue replied with a smile. She helped settle Shijiu in place, then sat down beside Liu Lingyan and gently pulled her into her arms.
“How are you feeling? Has the baby been giving you any trouble?”
“The baby is still so small. There’s no movement at all,” Liu Lingyan answered with a light laugh. When she noticed the way Xu Shijiu was staring, she misunderstood. She thought maybe Shijiu felt uncomfortable with how close she and Manyue were sitting. She quickly shifted slightly away to create some distance.
Xu Manyue looked reluctant as she watched her Omega move away. But when Liu Lingyan gave her a warning look, she finally pulled her hands back and sat properly.
In reality, Xu Shijiu hadn’t been looking at their closeness at all.
She had been staring at Liu Lingyan’s stomach. This was the first time she had seen her in person since learning about the pregnancy.
Her eyes were fixed on her sister-in-law’s flat belly. It didn’t look any different than usual, and that made her curious.
How did a baby even begin to grow inside someone?
How did a new life start developing?
