Wife, Your Secret Identity Is Exposed - Chapter 4
Knock, knock, knock!
“Song Tiantian, get up, now!”
The impatient voice pierced through the wooden door. Song Tiantian, who was busy gaming, felt her heart tighten. She hurriedly pulled off her headset and walked reluctantly to the door.
Creak…
The moment the door opened, Song Tiantian’s expression shifted instantly. She beamed at the person outside. “My most deeeearest Mommy, what brings you here?”
Yu Jiao glanced at her without a word and walked straight into the room. Song Tiantian followed behind her, bewildered.
“Mommy, what’s wrong? What are you doing?”
Song Tiantian watched as Yu Jiao briskly opened the wardrobe, picking and choosing through the clothes. An uneasy feeling began to settle in her gut.
Yu Jiao ignored her, tossing the selected clothes onto the bed, her face as cold and elegant as an iceberg.
“Tiantian.”
A steady, somewhat cool voice came from behind. Song Tiantian turned to see Song Jingliang standing there in a formal suit, looking every bit the serious, old-school cadre.
She rushed over, flashing a flattering smile. “Daddy, Daddy! Why are you here too? Is there some big event today?”
Song Jingliang’s eyes flickered with a hint of craftiness as he gave a sinister little smile. “You’ll find out in a moment.”
Song Tiantian was incredibly anxious. She couldn’t guess what this pair of “old foxes” was up to.
It was actually quite strange. Two famously cold and calculating “foxes” had somehow produced a “sweet dumpling” a total “Silly White Sweet” (clueless optimist). Yu Jiao and Song Jingliang often questioned their lives, feeling regretful that their genes hadn’t been perfectly inherited.
Despite Song Tiantian emphasizing countless times that she wasn’t “Silly White Sweet” but just “lazy + a shut-in,” and that she could learn anything quickly if she just tried…
In the eyes of Yu Jiao and Song Jingliang:
- Lazy = Stupid
- Not calculating = Dumb
- Smiling all day = Mentally challenged
- Staying home gaming = Hopeless
“Song Tiantian, come here and change into these,” Yu Jiao’s voice called from the bedroom.
Song Tiantian reluctantly walked in. Seeing the little black dress and high heels Yu Jiao had prepared, she blinked.
“Mom, who’s getting married? Are we going to a wedding banquet?”
Yu Jiao smiled without answering and walked out. Not daring to defy her parents, Song Tiantian quickly changed and hurried out of the room.
“I’m ready.”
Song Tiantian appeared before Yu Jiao with her hair disheveled, clutching a small Chanel bag. Yu Jiao frowned immediately, grabbed her, sat her on the sofa, and pulled out a makeup bag.
“You’re not a child anymore. You should be more composed. Stop smiling like a fool for no reason. As long as you don’t smile, you actually look a bit like me, beautiful.”
Mrs. Yu Jiao spoke with total seriousness, unaware of how funny she sounded. Song Tiantian suppressed a laugh and played along: “Of course! Mommy is the second most beautiful woman in the world!”
Yu Jiao, who was opening a powder compact, paused and shot a look at Song Tiantian. As if waiting for this reaction, Song Tiantian immediately followed up: “The first most beautiful is the woman who gave birth to Mommy!”
No matter how stoic an iceberg beauty is, hearing such pleasing words from her daughter caused the corners of her mouth to twitch upward. Her touch while applying makeup became much gentler.
Ten minutes later, Song Tiantian looked at the exquisite, cold face in the mirror and felt a sense of strangeness. She never thought she could look like a “Flower on a High Ridge” cold, elegant, and unapproachable.
“Hehe, Mommy is so amazing.”
The next second, the “high cold” persona shattered as she grinned like a fool.
Yu Jiao and Song Jingliang spoke in unison: “Don’t smile.”
“Fine.”
Song Tiantian pouted aggrievedly and followed them downstairs, still clueless.
“Where are we going?”
She had asked this when getting into the car, but it wasn’t until thirty minutes later, when the car stopped, that Yu Jiao finally answered.
“Your father and I, considering your life up to the year 2080, have unanimously decided that being a shut-in is bad for your physical and mental development. So, we’ve decided to arrange a job for you…”
Before Yu Jiao could finish, Song Tiantian’s eyes widened in shock. “What?!”
Yu Jiao gave her a look to stay calm and continued calmly, “We know you like games, so the job we’ve arranged is game-related. Think of it as combining work with your interests. Isn’t making money from a hobby a dream for many people?”
Song Tiantian thought there was some logic to that, but she still looked reluctant. She muttered, “You should have given me some mental preparation. You didn’t even tell me beforehand to let me consider it. Is it because my dear parents finally find me an eyesore?”
Song Jingliang turned around. “Tiantian, it’s not that we find you an eyesore. If you were willing to stay a shut-in forever, a happy little loser with no achievements, your mother and I would be willing to support you for life. But what about ten or twenty years from now? Others will have families and friends, and you’ll have nothing but a computer and fleeting online friends who could disappear at any time. Are you sure you won’t regret it?”
Song Tiantian bit her lip. She had “retired” from many games over the years, and the number of online friends she’d lost touch with was indeed more than she could count. It wasn’t like she didn’t care at all.
Seeing her silence, Yu Jiao continued, “Just treat it as playing for a few days. This is your Auntie Luo’s company. She’ll look after you, so don’t worry.”
Hearing it was Auntie Luo’s company, Song Tiantian nodded repeatedly. Although she hadn’t met Auntie Luo many times, her few memories were wonderful. Auntie Luo was beautiful, had a lovely voice, spoke gently, and was incredibly indulgent toward kids. It felt like her patience had no boundaries, she was very easy to like.
Seeing her agreement, Yu Jiao urged, “Then get out of the car.”
“Okay.”
Song Tiantian hopped out. Once outside, she saw her parents who had moved even faster than her, standing on either side of her like they were escorting a prisoner. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Why do I feel like something is fishy?”
Yu Jiao rarely showed her a warm smile, affectionately taking her hand. “Let’s go, my precious daughter.”
The three hurried toward the elevator. Inside, a beautiful woman in a light blue professional suit saw them and thoughtfully held the door open.
“Thanks.”
Song Tiantian looked up with a smile. The woman had her hair tied up, with natural wisps falling near her eyebrows. Behind her gold-rimmed glasses were eyes that were beautiful but restrained. She exuded an aura of rigor, true powerhouse in the workplace.
Although the woman noticed Song Tiantian’s wandering gaze, her eyes remained fixed forward, unmoved.
Song Jingliang noticed the ID badge on her chest: Fu Yan, Marketing Director of Xingqiao Technology. He nudged Yu Jiao with his elbow.
Yu Jiao followed his gaze and was delighted. “Hello, Director Fu. I am Yu Jiao.”
Fu Yan had clearly heard the name. She immediately turned and nodded. “Hello, Ms. Yu Jiao. President Luo had an urgent matter and had to step out, but she specifically instructed me to take good care of your daughter.”
“Yes, I know, she told me. Then I’ll leave Tiantian in your hands, Director Fu.”
As Yu Jiao spoke, she pulled Song Tiantian forward. Seeing her daughter grinning broadly, she discreetly poked her in the back.
Song Tiantian immediately wiped the smile off her face and greeted her seriously. “Hello, Director Fu. I am Song Tiantian. Please look after me.”
Fu Yan nodded, slightly adjusting her glasses. Her eyes behind the lenses were unreadable, hiding her emotions.
“Yes, I will certainly ‘look after’ you.”
Fu Yan then looked at Yu Jiao and Song Jingliang. “Please rest assured.”
Yu Jiao was thrilled, nodding repeatedly. “Then I am at ease.”
Ding…
The elevator doors opened. Yu Jiao and Song Jingliang didn’t step out. They gave a faint smile, watched the two leave, and then pressed the button for the first floor.
Yu Jiao’s lips curled up, her face practically screaming “satisfied.” “The person Ah Xing recommended is indeed excellent. That girl looks like a fierce, decisive character. With Tiantian under her, it won’t be easy for her to quit the company anytime soon.”
Song Jingliang agreed. “Yes. It’s time she suffered a bit. Otherwise, when we leave this world, it’s hard to imagine how she’d survive.”
Yu Jiao sighed with a hint of melancholy. “Exactly. How would she live alone? Being ‘stupid’ isn’t scary, being ‘lazy’ isn’t scary… what’s scary is that she is alone. If she can meet some people through this job and find someone who truly cares for her, that would be even better.”
Song Jingliang turned to Yu Jiao and squeezed her hand. Clearly, he was thinking the exact same thing.
