Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 7
“Roar!”
“Roar!!!”
Yun Li was struggling to eat her rice ball when sudden monstrous roars from outside startled her, causing the rice ball to get stuck in her throat.
“Cough!”
“Cough, cough!”
Yun Li coughed desperately, her delicate and beautiful face turning bright red from the strain.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue panicked and immediately patted her back.
“A-Li, A-Li, what’s wrong?”
“Water… water…” Yun Li managed to utter with difficulty.
Hearing this, Tang Congyue quickly pulled a water bottle from her backpack, unscrewed the cap, and brought it to Yun Li’s lips.
In this position, Yun Li took several sips of water before finally swallowing the rice ball stuck in her throat.
Now, her cheeks were flushed, her dazed peach-blossom eyes seemed soaked with moisture, glistening and wet, with a captivating redness spreading from the corners. She appeared exceptionally fragile yet irresistibly eye-catching.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Yun Li reassuringly patted Tang Congyue’s hand.
“Roar!!!”
The monster’s cry echoed from outside once more.
Yun Li was startled again. She stood up and walked to the window, glancing downward. There, she saw a boar-like monster using its tusks to gore a human in front of it.
With her sharp eyesight, she could see the man’s belly being torn open, gushing large amounts of blood, and even intestines spilling out from the bloody hole. At this sight, Yun Li could no longer hold back and began to retch, nearly vomiting up the rice ball she had just eaten.
Tang Congyue, who had followed her, also witnessed the survivor’s gruesome fate. She frowned and pulled the beautiful woman, who was bent over retching, into her embrace.
“Don’t look.”
Nestled in Tang Congyue’s arms, Yun Li inhaled her cool, refreshing scent, which gradually eased the churning in her stomach.
Holding Yun Li, Tang Congyue glanced downward. The boar-like monster was now devouring the corpse of the deceased survivor. At that moment, Zhao Jinhe appeared with five others. With a sweep of his large hand, he hurled orange-red flames at the monster.
The moment the flames touched the monster’s fur, they ignited with a sizzle, instantly enveloping the creature in a blaze. The monster let out a piercing shriek, thrashing on the ground in an attempt to extinguish the flames.
Seizing the opportunity, Zhao Jinhe, wielding a knife about thirty centimeters long, forcefully plunged it into the monster’s neck.
The other five also brandished their blades, hacking at the monster’s body and leaving numerous wounds.
In agony, the monster tried to flip over and rise, but Zhao Jinhe was quicker. After pulling out the long knife, he thrust the blood-stained blade into the monster’s head with another forceful motion. He twisted it around, and the monster emitted one last shrill cry before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.
“Done!”
Zhao Jinhe grinned as he pulled out the long knife, giving the monster’s corpse a kick.
The other five broke into smiles at the sight.
Witnessing this scene, Tang Congyue narrowed her eyes slightly, thinking that although the monster appeared ferocious, it was actually quite easy to kill?
However, this might only be the case when dealing with one. If they encountered a horde of monsters, it would be a different story.
Tang Congyue pondered, and it seemed Zhao Jinhe below had noticed her gaze. He looked up, his eyes brimming with smugness, just meeting Tang Congyue’s.
Their eyes locked. Tang Congyue’s expression remained cold, while Zhao Jinhe frowned. Then, as if struck by a thought, he grinned, revealing his white teeth, and raised his hand to give Tang Congyue a thumbs-down gesture.
Tang Congyue: “…”
Hah, what a childish man.
Tang Congyue couldn’t be bothered with Zhao Jinhe. She wrapped her arm around Yun Li and left the window.
Seeing this, the smile vanished from Zhao Jinhe’s face.
The other five hadn’t noticed Zhao Jinhe’s gesture and were still excitedly staring at the monster carcass on the ground.
“I thought killing one monster today was already pretty good, but who knew another one would come right to our doorstep? We’re in luck, we’ll have meat for days!”
“That’s true, but someone still died.”
The man who spoke glanced at the corpse, half-devoured by the monster.
At his words, everyone except Zhao Jinhe fell silent.
Zhao Jinhe snapped back to attention, frowned at the corpse, then flicked his hand, sending a ball of flame onto the body.
“Starting tomorrow, we’ll form a patrol team.”
“What?”
“If we don’t want more deaths, we’ll form a patrol team. That way, if another monster appears, we can react in time.”
“But…”
“Let’s talk about it after we get back.” Zhao Jinhe waved his hand dismissively, unwilling to listen.
“…Alright.”
And so, they dragged the monster’s carcass back to the cafeteria.
…
By now, Yun Li was feeling much better. She lifted her head from Tang Congyue’s embrace and asked softly, “What happened to that person?”
“He’s dead.”
Yun Li fell silent.
Tang Congyue didn’t say anything either, only reaching out to gently pat her head.
After a long while, Yun Li spoke again, “Weren’t all the people supposed to be safe inside the cafeteria? How could someone have been killed by a monster?”
“It probably wasn’t someone from the cafeteria.”
“Could it be a survivor who escaped from the library?”
“Most likely.”
Yun Li: “…”
She pressed her lips together, feeling nothing but pity for that person. He had been so close to the cafeteria, only to be killed by a monster…
So close.
Just a little bit more.
Perhaps sensing Yun Li’s low spirits, Tang Congyue squeezed her hand and said, “Don’t think too much about it.”
Yun Li wrinkled her nose and handed the remaining rice ball to Tang Congyue.
She couldn’t eat anymore, and she didn’t want to dwell on it, but how could she help it after what she had witnessed?
Ah, the apocalypse was truly brutal. At least she only had to complete her mission to leave this place. If she had to live in constant danger, she’d probably go mad, wouldn’t she?
The thought sent a shiver down Yun Li’s spine.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue pulled her into an embrace once more, gently patting her back.
“A-Li, don’t overthink it. I’ll protect you well.”
Yun Li didn’t respond, only nestled silently in Tang Congyue’s arms.
…
Perhaps because of the bloody scene she had witnessed earlier, Yun Li remained listless the entire afternoon. She didn’t sleep, instead playing a downloaded offline game on her fully charged phone.
Tang Congyue sat beside her, occasionally offering a few tips.
“Tang Congyue.”
Suddenly, a familiar voice called her name.
Both of them looked up simultaneously to see Zhu Yaqin walking toward them.
“Something up?”
“Another person died, did you know?”
“We know.”
Not only did they know, they had seen it with their own eyes.
“The person who died came from the library area. He came alone, without any companions.”
Came alone…
How bold…
Yun Li couldn’t help but sigh.
“After this incident, Zhao Jinhe plans to form a patrol team. Participants will receive monster meat daily.”
Hearing this, Yun Li perked up, her eyes gleaming as she looked at Zhu Yaqin.
“Will anyone be willing to join the patrol team?” Yun Li asked.
“There probably will be, right?” At this point, Zhu Yaqin deliberately glanced at Tang Congyue, but Tang Congyue’s expression remained indifferent throughout, making it impossible for Zhu Yaqin to discern anything. This truly left her somewhat helpless. “I plan to join the patrol team. Tang Congyue, will you come along?”
Yun Li’s peach blossom eyes widened, and she turned to look at Tang Congyue.
Noticing Yun Li’s gaze, Tang Congyue glanced at her before speaking: “No.”
“Why? With your skills, joining the patrol team wouldn’t be a problem.”
Tang Congyue remained silent.
Zhu Yaqin frowned, her mouth just opening when she noticed Yun Li beside her. Suddenly, she seemed to understand something. “Are you worried about Yun Li? Don’t worry, the cafeteria is quite safe. Yun Li will be fine with the other survivors here.”
“We’ll see.”
Seeing that Tang Congyue remained unmoved, Zhu Yaqin had no choice but to leave helplessly.
After she left, Yun Li asked Tang Congyue.
“Why not join the patrol team?”
“Not interested.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Yun Li stared at her for a long while, until Tang Congyue said, “Aren’t we playing the game anymore?” Only then did she shift her attention.
