Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 20
Today, Tang Congyue once again asked Hu Junfen to prepare a bowl of braised pork for them.
When Zhu Yaqin saw it, she couldn’t resist the temptation and also asked Hu Junfen to help her cook the pound of monster meat she had obtained into braised pork.
And so, Yun Li and the other two ate until their lips glistened with oil, each feeling thoroughly satisfied.
Just as they were about to leave the kitchen, the roars of monsters suddenly echoed from outside the cafeteria.
Tang Congyue paused, listening carefully. She could make out two distinct roars, which made her frown. She was about to say something to Yun Li when a head popped in through the window, it was Luo Zhibo.
Luo Zhibo wore a serious expression. “Tang Congyue, come with me. There are two monsters outside. Brother Zhao and the others might not be able to handle them.”
Abruptly, Yun Li turned to look at Tang Congyue, just as Tang Congyue also glanced her way. Tang Congyue raised her hand and gently stroked Yun Li’s soft, warm cheek.
“Wait here for me to return.”
With that, she strode purposefully out of the kitchen, took the kitchen knife from Luo Zhibo, and, under Yun Li’s anxious and worried gaze, quickly exited the cafeteria.
“Two monsters actually showed up…”
At that moment, Zhu Yaqin, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but speak up.
Yun Li glanced at her, and noticing her gaze, Zhu Yaqin quickly reassured her, “But with Brother Zhao and Tang Congyue here, it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Thinking about how Tang Congyue could single-handedly kill a monster without even having supernatural abilities, Zhu Yaqin deeply admired her and wasn’t too worried about their safety.
Yun Li didn’t respond. Instead, she walked out of the kitchen and fixed her gaze intently on the cafeteria entrance.
Zhu Yaqin followed her out, staying by her side as they waited.
…
Not long after Tang Congyue followed Luo Zhibo out of the cafeteria, they saw Zhao Jinhe leading five others in a fight against two monsters.
One monster was about a meter tall, with dull gray fur and a long, slender tail, resembling a rat.
The other monster stood roughly one and a half meters tall, looking somewhat like a dog but covered in sharp spines, making it appear difficult to kill.
Both monsters were dotted with scattered flames, clearly the work of Zhao Jinhe.
Out of the corner of his eye, Zhao Jinhe noticed Luo Zhibo bringing Tang Congyue over and immediately called out, “I’ll handle the big one. Tang Congyue, you take care of the small one.”
Tang Congyue raised an eyebrow slightly and, with a swift motion, hurled the kitchen knife in her hand. It flew straight and embedded itself deep into the body of the rat-like monster.
The monster let out a pained cry, its murky eyes shifting to fix a deadly glare on Tang Congyue.
Clearly, her action had drawn a significant amount of its aggression.
“Roar!”
The monster roared, immediately abandoning Zhao Jinhe and charging fiercely toward Tang Congyue.
Faced with this critical situation, Tang Congyue remained remarkably calm. As the monster lunged at her, she nimbly sidestepped, her hand seizing the kitchen knife still lodged in the monster’s body. With a forceful tug, she pulled the knife out, bringing with it a stream of foul-smelling blood.
Tang Congyue frowned almost imperceptibly, then grabbed the monster’s slender tail. With a powerful swing of the kitchen knife, she inflicted a deep, bone-exposing gash.
“ROAR!!!”
The monster’s agonized shriek pierced the sky. It twisted its head, intent on biting the detestable human before it, only to find Tang Congyue blocking with her kitchen knife, her icy eyes locking onto the monster’s murky gaze.
Suddenly, the monster’s movements halted, its fierce beastly eyes glazing over with a vacant stare.
Tang Congyue wasn’t particularly surprised. With a swift raise and fall of her hand, the cleaver split the monster’s head open.
By the time she pulled the cleaver out, the rat-like monster had collapsed to the ground, its blood staining the floor red.
After confirming the monster was thoroughly dead, Tang Congyue turned her gaze toward Zhao Jinhe and his group. Seeing that the monster they were dealing with was also on its last breath, she lowered her eyes, casting a slightly disgusted glance at her hand, which had accidentally been stained with the monster’s blood while gripping the cleaver.
The cleaver was still too short.
In the brief moment Tang Congyue was lost in thought, Zhao Jinhe’s group finally managed to kill the monster covered in sharp spines.
Zhao Jinhe glanced over at that moment and, seeing Tang Congyue standing there composed and relaxed with the monster’s corpse at her feet, felt extremely frustrated.
“Did none of you go to help Tang Congyue just now?” Zhao Jinhe only now realized this.
“…No.”
A young man pursed his lips sheepishly.
Without any assistance, Tang Congyue had single-handedly taken down the monster once again.
Thinking of this, Zhao Jinhe couldn’t help but admire Tang Congyue’s skill. He also recalled how, not long ago, when he had mocked her for having no combat ability, she had challenged him to a spar.
It was clear now that Tang Congyue hadn’t been bluffing to save face, she genuinely dared to face him in a fight.
The more he thought about it, the more frustrated Zhao Jinhe felt. He also realized that, as an ability user, he seemed to hold no advantage over Tang Congyue. If that was the case, how could he ever hope to steal Yun Li away from her?
Zhao Jinhe remained silent until Tang Congyue spoke up with a hint of impatience: “Are you all just going to stand there like idiots? Aren’t you afraid the smell of blood will attract more monsters?”
Without waiting for Zhao Jinhe’s response, she grabbed the monster’s slender tail and dragged it into the cafeteria.
Snapping out of his daze, Zhao Jinhe ordered Luo Zhibo to bring their monster back as well, leaving a few people behind to clean up the bloodstains left by the dragging.
…
The moment Tang Congyue dragged the monster inside, the cafeteria erupted in gasps and murmurs.
She paid no attention to the commotion, her eyes quickly locating Yun Li standing not far from the entrance.
Upon seeing her return, Yun Li hurried over, but as soon as she clearly saw what Tang Congyue was dragging, her face turned pale, and she took several steps back.
A rat!
Such a huge rat!
Yun Li screamed inwardly.
If there was one thing Yun Li feared most, it was rats. The thought that this rat-like monster was edible made her stomach churn violently.
No way!
She could eat monster meat, but she absolutely could not eat meat from a monster that looked like a rat!
It was too disgusting!
She couldn’t stand it.
With just one glance, Tang Congyue understood what Yun Li was thinking. A trace of helplessness crossed her face, but she said nothing. Spotting Hu Junfen among the people nearby, she waved her over.
Mustering her courage, Hu Junfen approached.
“What can I do for you, miss?” she asked.
“Can you help me process this monster?”
“Of course, certainly!”
Nodding in acknowledgment, Tang Congyue dragged the monster into the kitchen.
Yun Li hesitated where she stood, but in the end, she chose not to follow into the kitchen.
In just a few seconds, Luo Zhibo also dragged the monster back, with Zhao Jinhe following behind him. Noticing Yun Li was also there, Zhao Jinhe paused briefly, his gaze fixed on Yun Li’s impossibly exquisite face. However, he quickly regained his composure, instructed Luo Zhibo to haul the monster into the kitchen, and selected a few others to clean the bloodstains on the floor before heading into the kitchen himself.
Soon after, Zhao Jinhe spotted Tang Congyue. After a moment’s thought, he said, “You took down this monster solo, so it belongs to you.”
Tang Congyue had already learned from Zhu Yaqin that single-handedly defeating a monster would earn them the entire creature as a reward. Hearing Zhao Jinhe’s words, she wasn’t surprised but still nodded to acknowledge the statement.
